So all my adult life I've complained that I can not lose weight and suddenly I think I may b losing too much too fast.....should I be worried? I am 6 days post op and have lost 15 lbs. I'm drinking my protein and usually can get in 1/2 cup of cream soup in a day. Feeling ok just a little concerned....

Probably no NEW advice ...you know the deal.... Protein, protein, and more protein. Cut out refined carbohydrates. Measure portion sizes again. Perhaps a food log... And get moving ---- EXERCISE. See, you already knew it.... And I wouldn't hold my head down for losing 55 pounds..... I mean, " YOU LOST 55 POUNDS!" Congrats on that achievement!

I absolutely used to love wheat thins. I’d eat them with turkey and cheese. Does anyone have a low carb option for Wheat Thins?

@@Momma_D Don't panic. TOTALLY normal. Your body is adjusting, that's all. I gain weight all the time, but then I'll have a 4 pound weight loss. You are doing nothing wrong, (especially if you've switched over to good Protein instead of mashed potatoes and crackers)...follow plan, get some exercise, and it will come off. Stalls and weight gain are all part of the process, so you may as well get used to it now This journey is not a straight line, but more like steps of stairs. You'll have your ups and downs.

Pureed Soup Recipes
Bandista replied to MrsFraga2016's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am pre pre-op diet but I love to cook, too -- cauliflower is amazing whirred up with a stick blender, Cuisineart, etc. I steam it then pulverize, adding organic chicken stock to get the consistency I'm looking for. Cumin very nice, ground coriander -- and I have made a kind of "pesto" with cilantro, garlic and steamed cauliflower -- needs a little salt & pepper. Also the Indonesian squash soups -- yum. Sautéed onion, garlic, ginger then spices: cumin, coriander, etc., many recipes call for several almonds ground up for a nutty flavor, add can of coconut milk if that is ok for your food plan, then the steamed squash of any kind and stock (can be veggie or chicken). Cook down then pulverize -- very savory and satisfying. Everyone is crazy about this soup. Freezes beautifully. -
Yes I think it's normal. Make sure u hv enough vitamins water and u should b fine. Hv some extra protein drink that should help

Sounds pretty normal. Week 3 is pretty fresh in my mind (week 6 for me) I had days just like you describe. For me, I think those days where a result of my body just not having enough calories in the previous days and wanted a rest. Usually I was up and able the next day to start on getting my liquid and protein in. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

From the very beginning I have had zero problem with liquids & pudding, jello, yogurt, etc...now that I"m on to soft food, it feels a little like it gets stuck in my chest and there is some discomfort. Some foods are easier than others - I had a hard time with scrambled eggs but was fine with chicken salad, go figure. But I'm keeping calories under 700, watching the carbs and sugar, making sure to get enough protein & water, and am losing pretty well with little to no hunger. I don't know how to explain it; I guess I should be grateful. I'd definitely talk to your surgeon about it next time you see him though. That's what I plan on doing Good luck!

My surgery was Monday (3 days ago) and I was told when I was released on Tuesday to try for 48 oz of liquids and 40 gms of protein per day for the first week. I've read so many comments from others that in the first few days after surgery, have a really hard time getting in their liquids and protein. That's what's strange....I'm just the opposite. For example, it's not yet noon and I've already had 28 oz of liquids and 34 gms of protein. Plus, I've had very little nausea and am already feeling almost back to 100% today. Could the doc have maybe made my sleeve a bit larger than normal and that's why I've had it so much easier than others who have been posting regarding problems getting in their liquids and proteins early on after surgery? I don't understand....it's really strange.

Realized that I need more information
WASaBubbleButt replied to WDW Luver's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is usually caused from a carb rich diet. You will likely experience problems after surgery until your body adjusts to a healthier diet. When it happen do NOT consume sugar!! Consume Protein, it will even out your blood sugar. -
i' m sure there are a lot of people here going thru the same things. I was wondering if anyone else at 7 weeks post op can pretty tolerate anything, i have been staying on course and have lost 40 lbs give or take 2 lbs fluctuation but it seems slow in general maybe my expectations are to high for to much to fast. I go to the gym 4 times a week i walk two miles and have started working on some toning machines. i noticed my hunger is starting to come back and though i cant tolerate the amount of food i was eating i fear 5-6 ounces i can tolerate now at times sometimes 2-4 ounces will eventually grow. i stop myself and follow the program . i am getting my Protein as i should as well as Water requirements. i just don't want to have done this for nothing. I feel frustrated i am not losing more rapidly sometimes not at all. Anyone else had this problem? One thing i don't much care for are all the judgey people i have met so far along this journey. its all a learning experience.

Thanks so much guys! I'm on the high Protein, low carb diet as well. For Breakfast, I just fixed 2 eggs and 3 slices of Canadian Bacon. I imagine I'll be having a lot of that during the next 2 weeks, as well as chicken and tuna. Haha I'm not too creative with food. I just feel lucky that I'm not on the Clear liquids diet that some people have to go on. The surgery is on the 25th. Only 14 days, I can't believe it's almost here! -
5 Days Post Op And So Hungry
didixo replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried mixing Beneprotein powder to all my liquids. It really helped me feel full a little longer. You can find it at Walmart where the protein shakes are. It is a blue can from Nestle. Hope this can help you too. Good luck. -
Hello, I am newly banded (June 20th) and it depends on what your surgeon gives you on your list to eat/drink pre-op. Mine was Chike Protein shakes, Jello and sugar free drinks and broth. I did it for 2 weeks. Hated everyday of it but there were no other options so I did it, because I had to and I am worth it. The shakes even made me sick to my stomach so although I was allowed 4, I rarely got in more that 2or 3. Try not to fret and get all twisted up about it. It won't be easy but you can do it. I promise you wont die, (might be grumpy!) but you can do it too! Although it is to shrink our fatty liver the best part is if you follow it, the weight will fall off. I lost 22 lbs in 2 weeks. Good luck! Colleen

Heating pad, immersion blender to make protein shakes, mini food processor for the puree stage, big insulated mug (Bubba kegs work well) to keep your drinks hot or cold, a big variety of approved drinks (mine were G2, Powerade zero, light fruit juice, decaf tea and decaf coffee, V8, skim milk, and kefir), big variety of protein powder samples, and a digital kitchen scale. You won't need the scale right away, but you should have one eventually!

well yes ive been told to start off with oats and sugar free juices and protein shakes. Ive tried oats and honestly didn't like it so. fresh sugar free juices on a daily basis. and protein shakes too.

In the initial stages protein is king. You need it more than anything at this stage and through the rest of your life, but especially at this stage. If you stick to the plan, you will lose the fat. Many of us have failed diets so much that it is hard to believe that it will work this time. The ghost of failed diets past haunts us. This time you have REAL science on your side. I was a guy that most everyone, even my surgeon, didn't think would make goal. I guess they thought I was too light-hearted about it all. What they didn't see was the mean, stubborn guy inside of me that loves a good fight.

What is your protein and water/liquid intake per day? Also, you can lose inches and not see anything on the scale. There are also plateaus at times, and yes a month out or so is the first one I've seen.

Frustration With Protien
Doreykn replied to bubles089's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can add some sugar free pudding mix to the shakes to add different flavor to the protein shakes. Only a little at a time though, as it will make it too thick, if you add to much. Gives you a variety... Always put in the blender with ice, it helps big time & mixes the protein better.Good luck P.S. I use lactose free milk now... -
Frustration With Protien
melting me replied to bubles089's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't drink the Protein shakes with milk any more. It took me about 2 weeks to be able to drink a protien drink in under 3 hours. I started drinking 2 ounces, putting it back in the fridge, coming back 30 minutes later and drinking more until it was all gone. I have developed a distaste for them. I started drinking the Isopure zero carb Protein Shakes from GNC. I can drink plain milk, but the taste of the protein is intolerable. I also can not drink plain Water. It actually turns my stomach and causes pain. I talked to the surgeon and he suggested mixing up the Protein drinks with more variety including ice cubes in the blender, Peanut Butter or a bit of a bananna. He gave me a list of about 50 variations to try and suggested citrus or cukes in the water to change the make up enough. I am 32 days out from surgery now and have found that if I don't drink the protein I don't lose. I haven't lost a pound in 3 weeks because I wasn't getting enought calories. I also started using a straw eventhough it is not suggested because if helps. -

I havnt been tracking my calories or protein intake. I will def start now and download my fitness pal. Do u mind sharing how much you have lost each month? -
Good news is that I am not that far from my BMI ideal weight. It is only 40 lbs away and I have already lost 121 lb in 5 months. So it got me thinking abut what really is my target weight and when should I achieve it? Given that 10 lb a month is pretty standard, an easy calculations reveals that I wold hit BMI ideal weight in about 4 months, give or take a couple weeks depending on how slow or fast the scale weight moves. That is fine with me and places my target of 180 lb in the middle of feb. 2013. The question is whether BMI is a good goal to shoot for. My doctor, NUT and supporting staff have not talked to me explicitly about a target yet and I always assumed it would be BMI for my height of 5 ' 11 ". However, feb 2013 is the 9 month mark for me which statistically places me 1/2 way through my golden period of sleeve effectiveness. Should I stop there? What happens if I reach goal at new year instead because I have been getting pretty serious about exercise and weight lifting in the last month? My wife and mother in law have told me on numerous occasions that they think I might look unhealthy at BMI because my bone mass is medium to large and I have muscle on me. They might be saying these things with some self motivation. for example, my mother in law is constantly on a diet losing and gaining the same 10 lb. my wife is a candidate for sleeve, so may not quite understand the whole less is better attitude. not sure. I certainly feel good now and think 20 lbs more lbs would put me into a solid state of health, even if 20 lb over the BMI for my height. The last thing I want is to develop some kind of need to lose weight into the unhealthy zone, below BMI. Not saying this would be from anorexic tendencies because I am not starving myself in my diet nor am I doing crazy exercises ( max 1 hour a day, most of the time 45 min). However, I do see that I need to be careful to not lose too much and get unhealthy. I will continue to be active in my exercises, not just in my home gym but also running 5ks, hiking and other things. These will all contribute to my metabolism burning, burning and burning calories. I look pretty healthy in the mirror with and without clothes on. Not a lot of lose skin and am shaping up like a swimmer ( broad shoulders and narrow waist). My caloric intake is currently around 600-900 and consists mostly of Protein for 6 meals a day. I feel ok with this eating, am not hungry except to refuel and have a lot of energy from this eating, from exercise and also from coffee. Can I continue to eat like this? Not sure. I think I would like to eat more fruit and veggies at some point, eat more like a wholesome and natural Mediterranean style diet. That is a goal of mine for when I stop losing scale weight. It is going to take me a few weeks of transition time to moderate my eating patterns from high protein to Mediterranean style. Have not crossed that bridge yet, but know it is soon arriving on my journey. Appreciate the thoughts from others, especially mature sleevers that have "been there, done that."

Relax! One or two days with very little Protein is not a big concern. Just try to keep hydrated and sip your Protein shakes as you go along. Your body is trying to heal from the trauma of surgery and we all have plenty of reserves the body can burn to stay healthy. tmf

Well here goes, my story. I have always had a weight problem, for as long as I can remember. I can remember my Dad grilling me about how much I weighed when I was in like third grade. My Dad was slim as a young adult, but put on a few pounds as he aged. My Mom struggled with her weight, but she is a strong minded woman, and has never been "fat". She loves to cook and bake, but she is great about not eating what she cooks. I am a "Mature" adult now, (translate that to read almost ready for Medicare), but feel much younger, and want to continue to feel years younger. I started thinking about bariatric procedures shortly after my cousin, who is a sugeon, had a Roux N Y procedure himself. He subsequently specialized in bariatric surgery and is currently doing mainly bariatric procedures. Throughout my adult life I have been or participated in Weight Watchers, Diet Center, Weight Down Workshop, Over Eaters Annon., TOPS, and a bunch more that I can't even remember, plus have tried almost every diet that has come along. I even went so far as to make an appointment and go see him last summer. But when I checked with our insurance company, they informed me they don't pay for ANY bariatric procedures. My cousin (bless his heart) offered to do the surgery for free, but I would still have to pay the hospital and anesthesia costs, which were going to run about $14,000. I didn't have $14,000 sitting around, so I started looking at options in Mexico. I choose to go to Tijuana and have the surgery there. I was sleeved three days ago, and so far am very happy with my choice.
