    OCTOBER 2014

Okay, going off of Beni's post. I will make my own about my NSV's and my scale victories. Scale victories: 10% of my body weight gone. (DONE 11/2/14) 50 lbs gone Onederland 75 lbs gone Goal weight of 130 lbs. Non-scale victories: Crossing my legs, Wearing heels without feeling like I'm going to fall and die. Wear cute boots and be able to wear my pants under them. Be around a size 12 for my birthday (4/26) Vaniety size of an 8 couch to 5K run with my daughter( she's 8) Going on my honeymoon and actually feel sexy (been married 3 years and have yet to go to our honeymoon). We are planning on going in June. Wearing a cute swimming suit that fits. Get out of plus size clothing stores. And the biggest one of them all: to actually feel Beautiful.

    Funny non-scale victory

Other NSVs to watch out for, that maybe you aren't expecting: Your shoes will start to feel sloppy big, and your bed will feel like it got bigger.

    Funny non-scale victory

Well hello kitty! and thanks for the smile. I hope I get an encouraging NSV that soon. I am such an impatient person. Thanks for posting this.
  5. @@mariomomi nicely put and written these successes/accomplishments are commonly referred to as NSV's (non sleeve victory) NSV's vary from buying a smaller size clothes to squeezing in between 2 cars with no problems able to put a little tush in the middle seat on an airplane, with room to spare!! you guessed it - these are 3 of my NSV's look forward to all the NSV's you will be having post op great feeling you will see how far you have come - and eventually will go good luck kathy

    About to cry...

Oh yeah, and stay off the scale. Take note of your progress by how your clothes fit and other NSV's. I actually dropped a whole pant size during the month I was "stalled". I don't even own a scale, so The only reason I even knew I was stalled was because I went to the doctor 6 times between weeks 6 and 14 and they weighed me each time.
  7. I admire runners. So sleek and dedicated. Congrats on your NSV & for your transformation. Best wishes for your continued success
  8. Hey All, Haven't checked in in a while so I would pop in and say hi! All of you are doing incredibly amazing!! I had to change my profile pic to a before and after...and the after is from July...I have to update it again....but one of my most recent NSV/NSA was that I fit into a size 18 Calvin Klein dress for a wedding this past weekend!! When I first started my journey I was wearing a size 28! And I now have my very first piece of name brand clothing!! Never in my life did I think that this would happen for me. I still have about 60 pounds to go until I meet my goal, but since I am training for my very first half marathon in March of 2015, I'm hoping that it will melt right off. Keep it up wonderful ladies!! ~*Samantha*~

    Height, Weight, And Size Poll

As of my 1 month post-op on 10/3 (yeah, I'm slacking), I was at 283.5, down from 306 day of surgery. I know I'm down more, but I only let the Dr. weigh me so that I focus more on the NSV's than the scale. I get comments/compliments almost daily, so I know I'm still losing. I'm able to eat anything I want, just a smaller amount...I love my sleeve! So much better than the band!

Slowing down or stopping weight loss

Then give yourself the credit you deserve for recognizing this!! This is a NSV for sure, but keep thinking about it... Don't let yourself get too vulnerable that the old ways feel comforting. Truly, it sounds like you are doing well with sharing your concerns. Truly I was not mocking. I just can't imagine such a double edged sword- which this really sounds like. I am happy for you and your great success and wish you well on the next part of this journey!!
  11. I was never worried about getting in enough Protein or calories at the beginning. Frankensleeve would not tolerate ANY foods my 1st 10 days. I literally ate 1/2 sugar free popsicle per day that 1st week. And then I was only eating 3/4 can of Soup per day for weeks and weeks. I figured I had plenty of calories stored in my fat to keep me alive for 6+ months! :-P I did the best I could to get in enough Water, then protein. Just do the best you can in the beginning, and as your new stomach heals, increase the amount of water and protein you're eating. P.S. My hair thinned considerably around 6 months, but it came back with a vengeance a few months later. :-P It's been 22 months post-op, last week I went in for a haircut and notice my barber using the hair thinning scissors on me for the 1st time since surgery - NSV!!!!!
  12. For the past couple of months, I have came on here; whined, complained, bitc##d, begged for advice, and most importantly vented about my lack luster and disappointing weight-loss. I've had to laugh when the nutritionist and doc told me I have to eat more calories then most VSG patients because my body was starving, because I'm so big. And I'm talking like double what most VSG patients eat. Clearly there's no room for that in my "Baby Belly". But today I decided, I'm effing over it, maybe not the venting, lol, but most definitely the bitc##ng and complaining part. What led me to this amazing moment of clarity and enlightenment? It's when I finally start realizing that I have had Non-Scale-Victories happening all around me, but I was to engulfed in my self pity to recognize them. For starters, I have lost 2 shirt sizes, I've only lost 65lbs SINCE SURGERY, but I have lost 2 shirt sizes, down from a 6xlt, sometimes 7xlt to a 4xlt. I also have lost 6-8 pant sizes (depending on the pants...lol). I no longer have to sit 5ft away from the wheel to accommodate my super super super sized belly, while driving. I don't spill over in every chair I sit in anymore. I no longer force feed myself and allow myself to cover up stress with 6000+ calories a day. Although the wieght-loss isn't coming to me as fast as it is for some of my VSG buddies, it's okay, because it's still coming off. Walking from my basement to my second story is not nearly as laboring as it use to be. I don't need 101 medication to regulate and counter regulate my bodies comorbidities. I have achieved a new found level of mental clarity in my life. I can shop at Macy's. I can jog at 4.9mph on the treadmill, up from a 2.7mph walk. And today, I had the NSV that is more important than all of them combined, that is; I FLIPPING love who I'm becoming! So here it is, my Declaration of Independence from the Scale! In my household it's officially, No-Scale-November, meaning no weighing myself for the whole month of November. Victory for Me! Because it's all going to work itself out. Fidem Servare!!! Latin for "Keep the Faith"

    NSV shout outs

New NSV's at 7.5 months: Halloween - I led the pack instead if the rear. I had those kids charged up and we forged ahead. I was always the mom at the back wishing we would skip a street and go home. This year, I was the mom who could have kept going. Scrub shopping - preop I weighed 325 and was wearing 4X pants because even though 3X fit, they were snug. So 4x was big but it's what I wore. I rarely wear scrubs to work and had a pair of 2X from a long time ago that I could wear if needed. But I wanted some for the busy winter months. I went to the scrub shop and asked for 2X. I was about to check out And the owner said "I think you should try these on, they might be too big". I secretly thought he REALLY meant he was afraid they were too small because my head can't trust others good opinion of me. So I tried on a XL. Fit. Maybe even a little too big. I almost fell over. He said "I didn't think those would fit you". My brain has a hard time figuring out clothing sizes now. It's a strange thing. Painting - shimming up the ladder to paint my house. No way I'd climb a ladder at 325. I don't love heights but I can do it now. Den has a fresh coat of much needed paint. Hallway and foyer are next. Life is good!

    NSV for a newbie WOOHOO!

Your picture made me laugh, because I was also happy when I could sit like that again! Just sliding into the car without smacking my knee on the steering wheel was nice, and now I can have the steering wheel all the way lowered and it isn't rubbing against my thighs. Your NSV's will keep coming- enjoy!
  15. So I'm about 4.5 wks post op and still going through the healing process and the pureed food stage but I'm noticing big differences already. I've had 2 major "aha" moments that remind me that hey, my body is in fact changing, bc sometimes my mind forgets. The first was in the supermarket. I was checking out and had to get to the credit card machine but the cart was in the way. I stepped to the side of cart and pushed it besides me while in the aisle. Usually I have to get out of the aisle, then pull the cart out of the way and then finally step back into the aisle. Did that all make sense? I was completely amazed and smiled like an idiot when I realized what had just happened lol The second was the below pic-I haven't done this since I was teen. I just naturally sat this way and then it occurred to me that it's been almost 20 yrs since I could do that!! (I was parked when I took this pic btw lol) Yay for NSV-they blow my mind more than the numbers on the scale do sometimes! What's your biggest NSV or "aha" moment?

Wow what a transformation! Great work girl that makes sense about A for Advantage, lol I saw it and the first thing that came to my mind was "no strings attached " I'm a dork, it's ok. I do have a cool NSV to add: when I shave my armpits now it's more difficult because they're sunken in to my body now lol. I just have to shave them differently now I guess.
  18. Hi, Wow Janette, thin enough to slide past, how wonderful! I am not sure about NSA or NSV, but I thought if A stood for Advantage, then it should be A. I have posted two new pictures from today, and two from the day before my surgery. I can't quite believe it myself, I don't seem recognisable even to me. Take care Claire

    Isn't it Ironic

...on this same topic...a little NSV...is I can get matching bras and underwear...no one sees it but me (and my hubby), but it feels SO good! Anyone else feel "good all under"?

    Isn't it Ironic

I also have gone back to makeup, nails done, and hair cut stylishly. I wear dresses at work because I look nice in them again instead of looking short and fat with tree trunk legs. It's not about vanity. It's about taking care of ourselves. I don't do this for anyone but me. Yes..I know I'm being looked at and I know that I'm getting attention both male and female but that's just the perks. I feel good about me and that's what counts. Keep on getting those nails done GF and remember that this is a huge NSV.

    Tampons!

Okay ladies, I hope I'm not the only one who had this NSV lol, but using a tampon used to be a struggle for me to get around my big stomach! (When I actually had a period) I'm down a total of about 50 lbs from my high weight, 26 since surgery, and it has made this and so many other things easier! I also did the dishes without having to lean over the sink with my back killing me! Woohoo

    Share Your NSVs Here Please!

I hid my scale this week to concentrate on some NSV's. It is time to give up some tops, the neckline drops below my bra at not the best of times☺️
