    Is my weight loss normal?

P.S. Just wanted to add that some people don't even see a big drop during month 1. Most of that big initial drop is water weight - so for people that lost a lot of weight prior to surgery, that "water weight" is long gone. I lost 16 lbs the first month, 12 lbs the second, and then I averaged around 10 for a few months after that (give or take). I ended up losing over 200 lbs, so in the long run, it's how committed you are to your program rather than your rate of weight loss that matters.
  2. I had gastric bypass on 09/09/2021 and I have lost 39 lbs. so far after 10 1/2 weeks. Is this a normal amount of weight loss for that amount of time? People will ask me how much weight I've lost and when I tell them they ask if I've been cheating. I have been following the plan but it bothers me that I'm not losing faster.

    Just got my surgery

As @NovaLuna said, signals get messed up post-op. It could be thirst, especially so soon post-op when you're still trying to get enough hydration. It could also be very slight acid reflux (for me this happens if I eat too carby all at once, or if I eat too fast, or if I drink too soon after eating or vice versa). If you wait a half an hour and it goes away, it wasn't hunger. And some people have hunger after surgery. My surgery "twin" @lizonaplane said she feels hungry; I am just now, 10 weeks out, starting to sometimes feel hunger, but almost in the background. Everybody is different, and every body is different.

    Hungry

Yes its tough! My liquid preop started and ended on 10/24 till 10/31, unfortunately im the one who cooks, hubby didn't. So yes everyday i cheated with one meal during the preop diet. Had only water, ate a very small meal, like a ham/cheese sandwich. Had chicken breast(eating clean) and lost 10lbs that week and had no problems during surgery. Now its very easy to cook, see everyone eat, doesnt bother me. But im 3 weeks post op and hair loss settled in which is frustrating. Good luck, youre gonna rock this! 6. Hello all, Well this is 2nd bite at the apple. Here's my history... Sleeved on 07/27/2012 by Dr. Jaime Ramos-Kelly Before Pre-op Diet: 199 lbs (BMI 33.1) Weight Surgery Day: 188 lbs Sept. 1, 2012: 177 lbs. Oct. 1, 2012: 166 lbs. Nov. 1, 2012: 157 lbs. Dec. 1, 2012: 147 lbs. Jan. 1, 2013: 141 lbs. Feb. 1, 2013 138 lbs. (starting looking way too thin) Mar. 1, 2012 132 lbs. (between size 0-2) Horrible GERD/ Acid Reflux Infected gallbladder for most of 2015. Finally able to have removed in 08/2015 Maintained or gained 5-10 (138-148 lbs.) for about 4/5 years thru 2017 Back to pre-op weight of 199 lbs. by 2019/2020 Pandemic hit and now I am 230 lbs. before surgery (BMI 38.3) Scheduled for Sleeve to RNY: 12/2/2021 with same Dr. Ramos-Kelly in Tijuana, Mexico Looking for some kind souls that want to share the journey. Worried about how effective it is the 2nd time around. Looking forward to helping my GERD. The extra 30 lbs. means more months to reach goal. Oh yes and I am fretting about the hair loss. I did not enjoy that the first time around. If anyone has info they want to share, please do. Be well, Katrina

Can you show me your food log?

Meal 1 (0530) (51 cal 6C 2F 2.3P) Espresso with 5 g brown sugar and 2 oz steamed milk Meal 2 (0745) (164 cal 4C 10.6F 13.3P) 1 slice chard and spinach crustless quiche Meal 3 (1000) (164 cal 4C 10.6F 13.3P) 1 slice chard and spinach crustless quiche (liked it so much I ate it twice) Meal 4 (1400) (309 cal 11C 14.7F 32.8P) 2 beef kofte (meatballs) and 1/2 cup puréed pinto beans Meal 5 (1800) (327.2 cal 52.2C 3.3F 20.3P) 1 serving chicken tinga 1/2 cup puréed pinto beans 60 g steamed green beans Persian melon Meal 6 (2030) (130 cal 24C 3F 2P) 1 serving Maria biscuits TOTAL 1310 cal 105.1C 54.8F 97.4P - exactly within my macros per my nutritionist. I am just short of 10 weeks post-op. (Note, before someone jumps in about how that's SO MANY CALORIES—I burn at least 1000 calories a day just in exercise and physical work which I need to do, so it has to get fueled. When I was eating much less, I had no energy and no strength to do things like move hay bales. And I am still in the honeymoon of losing 4-5 lbs. a week.)

    November 2021 surgeries

My surgery was on 11/01. I only had a liquid only diet the day before my surgery. I guess each doctor protocols are different for pre-op requirements.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

What snacks do you eat? My surgery date is 10/27/2021. Is it too early to eat puff snacks?
  15. Congratulations! I'm in the middle (literally) of Couch-to-5K right now, so at the sort of 8 minutes 5 minutes 8 minutes bit. But my pace is getting better and better and I'm confident I'll break a 10-minute mile once I can run ten minutes all at once. And, like you, I never thought I'd be a runner, but here we are!

    Post op day 2

2 week post op appointment My last weight prior surgery was 168. That was my weight at the last appointment prior to surgery which was a week before, so it may have been a little more. I say more because I did not do a pre- op diet…at all. I ate all the things up until the day before surgery. I did a liquid diet for 24 hours the day before surgery. Starting weight: 168 pounds height: 5 foot (imma meatball) Self pay, BMI 33.2 2 week post op: 152.8 pounds down: 15 pounds When I told my surgeon that I haven’t met (or even have come close to) meeting protein goals, and I haven’t drank a single protein shake. He said “don’t worry about the protein, I don’t really want you drinking protein shakes”. UMMM what?!? I mean, weight lifted because I’m not doing it anyways. He was pleased that I’m staying hydrated with just water, and that I am eating 2oz at a time. I told him I having cravings, and he said have one bite and be done with it. He also told me to start eating fruit. Music to my ears. I feel a lot less stressed about it all. He doesn’t seem super strict, which I don’t know if it’s case by case. Being that i started at a low obese BMI, maybe that has something to Do with it. He also said my hunger is likely to decrease over the next few weeks. Enough appointment talk. Back to what’s going on with me post op day 15. I’ve been able to take a mouthful of water and swallow 3-4 times in a row. Still pretty small sips, but I’m no longer using a med cup (haven’t for while) or waiting minutes between. I am having a hard time slowing down with my meals too. I’m definitely not taking 20 minutes. I find my found myself eating 3 small bites rather quickly, then taking it slower after that. My vitamins have become a 10 minute ordeal of me almost throwing up. Like my mouth will water like I’m about to puke. I just try really hard not to. My energy level is pretty good. Considering no caffeine and little protein. For breakfast I had 1.5oz canned chicken and 0.5 oz banana) For lunch I had canned Annie’s vegan chili (1oz) and 1oz smashed potatoes, pinch of shredded cheese. It was yum! feeling good!

    Gastric sleeve

I’m on day 10 post op. I had the sleeve too and I got the hunger feeling started yesterday but I noticed I didn’t have enough protein intake. I guess I have a mindset of 40-48g of protein but my dietitian advised me today that I can take more proteins. I was counting the bone broth as my protein intake which made me hungry a bit although I’m using the Paleo/Keto friendly broth with 10g of protein. I changed it today and I’m not hungry. Can’t wait for the soft/puréed stage next week. I started watching videos on YouTube and it’s interesting and I found them helpful for our next stage.

    Sandwiches and chips

I’m on day 10 post op and I’m following the manual I received from my surgeon like a Bible lol. Can’t wait to have eggs and other puréed foods by Monday (11/22). I ditched the medicine cup though but not rushing when drinking my liquid. I took me at least 3-4 hours to finish an entire bottle but my ending the day with 80 oz. Journaling my intakes and not rushing are working for me. I’m scared of the dumping syndrome also but can be prevented. I have to be mindful and watch my intake.

    Trying to sleep in pain!

I had my gastric sleeve surgery done on 11/01. When I came home the next afternoon, and settled down I was in my recliner. For my first 4 days my sleep pattern was messed up. Also I take a lot medication. After my surgery some of my meds were changed and some were discontinued. All of these changes caused sleep issues. I downloaded Sleep Pillow app on my iPhone. I pick out some soothing white noice such as “ocean waves”. I set the timer or leave it so it runs all night. Put the sound on low. I close my eyes and listen to the ocean waves and next then you know I’m out.
  21. Yes I’m interested in this too!! I had two cocktails on my 10 year wedding anniversary and it was very obvious I was drunk! I’m a cheap date now apparently. Is this just me that has two drinks and can’t speak? Or will it improve? 😁

    December 2018 VGS weight management

The good thing is, you're addressing it now rather than letting the gain get out of hand. 10 pounds in one month is a lot, are you sure there are no health issues that may be contributing to that?

    Type of diet?

The answer is: Yes! All of the above. Low cal, low fat and low carb. At least low complex carbs (like bread, cake, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc.). Simple carbs, like vegetables and fruits are welcome. One suggestion: eat 3 "big" meals instead of 5 small meals. And by "big" I mean until you feel your stomach full. Then don't drink any fluids for an hour (I go up to two hours) and that will stave off the feeling of "hungry", because you're not flushing the food out of your stomach. The point is to fill your little stomach to capacity (not over!) and keep it full for as long as possible. If you eat small meals, you'll always feel hungry, and may end up eating 6, 7, 10.... small meals, which add up to more calories than 3 full meals. IMHO, at 6 weeks, you should be cleared for raw veggies and fruits, so have 3-4 oz of meat each meal, then fill up on salads and fruit. Then stop. No snacking in between meals, because you still feel full. Should shoot for 600-700 calories a day at this stage, all included.

    December 2018 VGS weight management

definitely get on top of that ASAP. It'll be a lot easier to lose 10 lbs than 50! If you're not still weighing, measuring, and logging your food, I'd start there. do keep in mind, though, that a 10-20 lb rebound weight gain is very common in year 3. It's just your body settling into whatever weight it wants to be. That's not to say you're stuck there - you CAN lose it - but if this your body's new "set point", just be aware that it's going to take some work to get down to - and maintain - a lower weight.
  25. I am having revision surgery on December 17th. I am still waiting for cardiac clearance and I'm more nervous than the first time. I guess because I am 10 years older.
