    I'm SO hungry!!

I had the same problem. I was on clear liquids for 10 days after surgery. I was banded on a Monday and that Thursday in the middle of the night I started getting hungry. The hunger woke me up and I had to have a glass of skim milk to get back to sleep. Yeah, mine wasn't head hunger either. I had a growling, gnawing stomach. It will definately get better once you are on mushies. I remember that the first thing I had when I could go on mushies was refried beans. The best refried beans I've ever had. Just hang in there. It will get much better.

Life with the Band -- What's it Like?

Hey, Alexandra. After having my second fill only 3 days ago, I am now finally experiencing what good restriction is. And you have some good tips to think about/follow. IAMOMX6, I am right with you on the shrimp dinner experience....can't eat it all! But as far as physically - what is life with the band like? Fine, no problems... it's the emotional/mental part that's got me. For example: A week ago, I would have told you I was a failure; I've only lost 19 pounds since July 24 and that's with one fill in October. I beat my self up miserably. I finally talked it over with a friend who actually got me out of the depression. Then I got my second fill 3 days ago. Right now I am a little upset with the fact that I can't eat as much as I used to. For some reason this really bothers me, I guess because I am finally accepting/realizing that I am mentally/emotionally dependent on food more than I should be. I mean, for 30 years I used food as a drug, so it's a little hard to break. I do feel good about the fact that weight loss is the end result so it lifts my spirits. I must have hope that I will get to 200 pounds one day. Maybe not in 6 months, maybe not in a year, but one day I will. Don't know if that's what you were looking for, Alexandra, but that is how I feel. Thanks for caring!
  3. My heart breaks for you. I went through a similiar situation - married 12 years when I left. Only you know what you should do. Nobody knows your situation like you do. I can only say that I met and married the love of my life. Married to him for 19 yeas. :seeya:
  4. Bless your heart! I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I've been with my hubbie 31 years and have been with him since I've been 17. Not only are we 19 years apart, we are of a different culture too. . .it is very hard to keep a marriage together (heavens dont I know that!) but we literally "raised" each other, we've had our ups and downs big time, and there was a period we did "take a break" from each other, but we kept "seeing" each other, no one had another partner. . this went on for about 1 year. . . we worked it out and again got together. . . we have 2 grown kids together, we've put each other through college, put 1 kid to college (the other refused) and in our now times we have come to realize that we are each other's best friend. . .we're not incredibly romantic mind you, but after 31 years who wants to hop into the sack every two seconds anyhow. . . we are best friends, we sit outside on the weekend morning with nothing to say, we are just together eating Breakfast and drinking coffee for about 2 - 3 hours. . .then we do whatever, he goes does his thing, I do mine, but we are always there for each other. Decisions are never made alone, we do it together. . we always know each others plans, just so we know whats happening with the other person. . . I support him, he supports me (except with this band thing, he is scared I'll die, but we're getting there) he has been a great dad to the kids, and a good providing husband, he is my best friend and should something ever happen to him (God forbid) I would be lonely and miss him terribly, but I would never marry again. . . after thinking about it, there isn't a man on this earth that could fill his shoes and it would be very unfair to that person cause I would always be comparing them to my best friend. . .and not only that, but would I really want someone coming into my life and telling me what to do, how to do it, when to do it? NO NEVER AGAIN. . . hope this helps a bit. . . always remember what made you fall in love with him in the first place and then ask would it really be worth it? Good luck and may all that motivate you be with you during this difficult time. . .
  5. I, too, had no restriction after the first fill which was on 12/7/09. The only reason I think I went down another 1-2 pounds is because after the fill it was liquids for 2 days and then mushies for 2 days. My next fill is scheduled for 1/5/10. Fingers are crossed that this will do the trick.
  6. Congrats! I'm 3 weeks our. The first 4 days I couldn't stand trying to get protein drinks in and just took it very, very slowly. By day 5 something clicked and things became easier. My biggest piece of advice it to walk often - the most painful part of the surgery is just getting all of the gas out that they fill you with. On a scale of 1 to 10 my pain never hit more than a 3, which was a pleasant surprise

    30 Day Shred

I have completed 5 days, and it is a butt kicker. I am taking Sat/Sun off and will continue with it on Monday. I may have to do the first level for more than 10 days, however, because I am not sure I will be able to move on after 10 days.

    Terrible Dieter's

Personally I was a GREAT dieter! I've been on a million diets all of them lasting 2 weeks to a few months. Hundreds of pounds lost and regained over and over again. I'm so thrilled not to have to diet anymore. Being sleeved is absolutely nothing like dieting. On a diet, I'm starving all the time, now I have to force myself to eat. I'm 5'5" tall, HW 250lbs CW 178.4, sleeved 10/21- 5 months. Getting sleeved is what got me away from dieting.
  9. Ok long story short. Had my surgery 10/16- went in for first fill dec 2nd. Flipped surgery to correct 12/9. My doc put in 2 ccs on 12/9. I don't notice much of a difference. I go back first week of January for my port follow up. Is that too soon to ask for another fill? I want to start slow I was thinking maybe asking for 1 cc, just wanted some input
  10. I was on the pain medicine for about 2 days. They kept me overnight in the hospital and administered it through my IV. The next day, I went home and continued a liquid form for the day. Within 5-10 minutes of taking it, I was out. The next day, I felt less pain and more just soreness. I didn't take anything that 3rd day and was fine by day 4. I still have a huge bottle of it at home. Being such a strong narcotic, I was surprised they dispensed so much for this surgery. I've always been very leary of relying to heavily on pain medicine. The kind they had me on is very addictive. I didn't take it anymore than I had to (it was Hydrocodone).
  11. A "stall" a few weeks after surgery is not uncommon, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs. of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when a patient is not getting in enough food, the body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. Then when 2 lbs. of glycogen is used a patient will also lose 8 lbs. of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs. that most people lose in the first week of a diet. However, when the body stays in a caloric deficit state the body starts to realize that this is not a short-term problem. Then the body starts mobilizing fat from adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But the body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. As it puts back the 2 lbs. of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs. of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though the patient might still be losing energy content to their body, the weight will not go down or it might even gain for a while as the retention of water dissolves the glycogen that is being reformed and stored. What You Can Do About a Stall or Plateau If a patient is experiencing a post-op weight loss stall or plateau further out there are a few possible causes. First, check that are you really in a stall. If the scale has stopped moving you may be losing inches, so check your measurements.

    Buddy wanted:)

Hello! I have researched LapBand surgery for about a year. I just met with my surgeon last week. I am now in the process of getting everything I need done, bloodwork, nutritionist, etc. I would love to have a buddy along the way:) I am married with a 10 year old daughter. My goal is to have surgery this summer, but not sure that it will happen that fast.
  13. Hello All.. I had my visit today and my band date is 3/10/09 looking forward to joining the ranks of all of you that are now smaller than you were before..
  14. I was banded 5/6/2010 and had lost only 35 lbs by Febrauray of this year. Well, I got on tract on Feb. 1st eating less than 25 Carbs and at least 60 grams of Protein a day. By February 10th I had lost an additiona 8 lbs. I decided I could cheat on the 10th because it was my 5 yr wedding anniversary. I didn't do too bad - had a little popcorn at the movies and maybe 10 chips and queso - ate 1/3 of my grilled chicken and shrimp and a small portion of dessert. The question I have is if you eat 25 grams or less of carbs a day and then eat a bunch in one day - have you seen your weight increase on the scale a few days later? I was at 237.5 lbs on the 1st and then at 229.5 on the 10th. Since cheating on the 10th, I have gone back to 25 grams of carbs or less a day; but, I weighed this morning (4 days later) and scale showed 231. Anyone had this experience? I thought if I did really well all week I could "cheat" once a week; but, not if the scale is going to do this each time.

I just worked it for 10 days. I was ready to move on, and had gotten kind of bored with the first level.

    12 days post op/port pain

I am 10 days post op and my port incision is still swollen and protrudes alot. It's tender if I bump something too. I also have 2 places where there is thread or suture sticking out and they are not near incisions. Don't know wether i should pull them out or if they will dissolve. Anyone else have this? tickers/img,59,70,1,pounds,265,247,185,/weight.png[/img]
  17. I can't believe it's been 10 days since my surgery...sooo glad it's behind me! All is progressing well and my NUT advanced my diet (to my surpise) from pureed to soft~~Whoohoo! A little overwhemed with all the "choices" again - have not had much of that for a while now. Now the really hard part begins - making good choices is up to me! High protein, low carb all the way, baby!:scared2:
  18. I was going to post this to the nutrition forum and then it asked pre or post op. I figure this applies to all areas so I posted under general discussion I am always looking for protein recipes and on the biprousa.com website I found several different cookbooks that are free to print. I thought it would mention in case you are exploring protein recipes too. Banded 10/12/16

    Health!

I'm 51 & had surgery 10 months ago. 90 lbs down - 35+- to go. Overweight since childhood, more & less, done everything including therapy (most helpful) & lost 100 lbs twice & gained it back. ((Once kept it off for 5 yrs). Love my band. All positive. BUT, I follow Everything my dr told me, did a lot of research & made a commitment to change my eating & exercise forever. All the best to you & everyone else! PS: I was self-pay & have a lot invested.
  20. I had a Board celebration to attend last night (we just completed a $1.2 million fundraiser to renovate the stage in the theater I am Board president of) and was going through my closet in some frustration yesterday morning. They've seen this, they've seen that, they've seen that one a hundred times...Then, at the very back of the closet, was a black sheath with a floral jacket that I hadn't worn in over 10 years! I didn't know I even still had the thing! It was my favorite dress for a long time, and I used to wear it when I was this weight before, so....maybe.... I tried on the jacket, and voila! It fit! I was so excited all day, I could hardly wait to get dressed up for the fete! I have to attend 2 or 3 very dressy events each year for this theater, and I have never felt "pretty" even though I'm dressed to the nines. Last night, I felt pretty and the compliments were just rolling in! This morning I feel like I could go shopping...and I HATE shopping!
  21. @@recordsmom 5lbs! if i could lose 5lbs a week (like i used to be able to do) I would be pretty golden. good for you! the shakes you are drinking have 27 g carbs/3g Fiber each, mine have 5g carb/3 fiber and i do not eat any fruit whatsoever, i cannot. the wonderslim cake has 9g carbs, 3 g of fiber, and that (compared to nothing or only low carb things) prevents my FBS from jumping up by 10 points in the morning (it's usually at 120 and it won't go any lower).
  22. I had surgery on the 18th of May and went back to work on the 21st...I got up that morning and showered and I literally had to sit for 10-15 minutes just to get my energy back to blow dry my hair afterwards! Then just driving to work I was miserably tired. I came home that afternoon and slept for like, four hours. I think it's pretty normal to be completely exhausted for up to a good week or so after surgery. Your body isn't working great when all you've had for days is clear liquids! I had the same issue where I couldn't even see words clearly because I was so tired!

    Lapband vs lapband with plication?

no one WLS is better then the next..all WLS require work and a mental change and a def change in eating habits and begin to exercise to make the most of whatever surgery one gets. the plication as my dr told me is my stomach folded into itself and stitched to make a small banana like (sleeve) if you will..it will (and has) helped me eat less and since this is a new procedure and still in early trials, i had to sign waivers on it...my dr did it pro bono for me....i was super morbid obese and the dr wanted me to have the bypass and i said no.....so he offered me this with the band but STRESSED that if didnt follow the lap band rules (eating my allotted amounts, stop eating junk food and begin to (move), no WLS would help me...... most WLS can and will help one lose at the beginning (the pre and post op diets helps with fast mainly all Water weight loss) and its amazing and its a confidence booster......and then when people REALIZE that they cant eat what they use too and just push it and overeat anyhow or not follow the rules, then the surgery isnt working..and 10 or more posts a day on this forum saying what am i doing wrong etc.. get whatever one you want but understand that its not a miracle....it will help you if you help it...i am living proof of that......but i also know/understand if i dont do my part the bypass, the sleeve or the DS or the band or plication wont work..people rush into WLS in my opinion thinking i had surgery and now i will automatically lose 100 pounds in a week..doenst work that way....a total mindset and attitude change is a must for success..esp when one was as large as me when i started..i either did it the right way, or got bigger...i had no other options.
