I've been adjusted 2x, but after the 2nd, I rtd for a little unfill - it was too tight. This happened in April '08. Today, I am experiencing, either swolleness around the band or slippage. Last night I ordered mahi mahi and its a very "gummy" fish. I think I ate too much and too fast. This was at about 7:00pm, it is 3:00AM and I am still up, belching up a storm and with this huge feeling of fullness. Of course, this is all after throwing up at the restaurant, and at home. I keep drinking little sips of water but I feel the water is not going down. But I am able to take deep breaths w/out the pain. There's also lots of tumbling in my stomach, Im not sure if there's food in my pouch that its trying to make its way down. There was a lot of throwing up - 1st time I experienced this. Your thoughts please, anyone?!

I guess they are all alike! Just as all of us suspected! My husband is also super supportive but makes the same comments. I have to reassure him that I was much slimmer when I married him and this surgery will not change who I am or who I love. Best of luck Mispk83, fast healing to you and to all above - may our husbands relax!

First, if you've had the ultrasound and have had gall stones ruled out it's going to be hard to give you symptoms of a true gall bladder attack. Most are pain in the right upper abdomen, just below your rib cage. They can start out as a mild, dull ache and build up to a sharp, very intense pain. OR, they can just literally come on all of a sudden as sharp, very intense, stabbing pain. It often radiates to the back, again just below the shoulder blade or rib cage and can be the ache or the sharp stabbing described earlier. If a stone were to lodge in the common bile duct, you may even turn yellow because it has blocked the passage of bile. When the gall bladder is malfunctioning, the symptoms can be similar. However, depending on the level of functioning it can be very intermittant (not consistent in frequency). You can also get episodes kind of like dumping syndrome. The only thing that crinkles my brow.....that yours hurts when you take a deep breath. That makes me wonder if it's not something else. But, it could still be the gall bladder getting sore from when the diaphragm pushes against it. Also, when the gall bladder is malfunctioning, it can go into spasms. If you feel little twitches (let's hope they stay little) in that area, it might be the gall bladder having a spasm. My personal experience with stones..........THE MOST PAINFUL ATTACKS I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I'm not kidding when I say I begged my husband to kill me. I contemplated suicide during the attacks. The pain was unrelenting. Worse than my dislocated hip. Worse than childbirth (unmedicated by the way). It was horrible. My doctor misdiagnosed me and told me I was having esophageal spasms, so I tried to endure these ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE attacks for six months. Go get your HIDA scan if you really believe it may be gall bladder.

That's how long my process took. It was submitted to insurance on march 21 and it took three months with them. It seemed that little things with paperwork kept getting messed up. But as soon as I was approved the process is fast.

The only thing id change...
bristlenose52 replied to Brockcrawford's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing I would change is that I would have done the Optifast pre-operatively for two months, not just two weeks. I lost over 22lb in those 2 weeks and, had i known the huge advantage I would have gained by fasting longer, I would have done it. Starting from a higher weight, I would say it should be a necessity, as my weight loss slowed down after the first 3 months when I began to be able to eat more. I tried exercise but couldn't stick to much more than a long walk once or twice a day, so weight loss slowed down and finally plateaued. -
Newbie question
laceemouse replied to Italian Girl1989's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The 6 month thing is usually required by insurance, I know a lot of the Kaiser plans in California require it. The purpose is not to get your body ready for surgery, it is actually more to get your mind ready. People have group meetings and see a nutritionist. They cut back on fast food, sugar, caffeine, etc. Some require you to lose a certain amount of weight, but the purpose is to prove that you are serious about this thing. SO MANY people come on this forum a week or 2 after surgery and are already disregarding their surgeon's advice because they just can't live without the crap food they used to eat. The surgery is not a magic bullet, you can't go back to eating the way you used to eat and expect to lose weight and get healthy. Plenty of people who have WLS fail to meet their goals, or meet them and then gain it all back. We need to learn a whole new lifestyle. I know plenty of people who did the 6 month thing and are happy they did it. It got them mentally prepared. That being said my BCBS Texas didn't require any of that. I had my first surgeon's appointment in August. I was right at BMI 40. All I needed to be approved was a psych eval, and then my surgeon ordered some basic pre-op testing. I had a very easy 3 day pre-op diet. My surgery was on Halloween. For me this was fine, I have been researching the sleeve for over 2 years. I have read everything I can about it, I have watched a million YouTube videos, I was 100% ready and I am doing fine. I have ZERO desire to ever go back to the way I used to eat. I always tried to eat healthy, and liked healthy foods, but I was too hungry to stick with it. I realize my sleeve is just a tool to help me manage the hunger, the rest of it will be work. I think many people have eating disorders that need to be addressed before the surgery. They operate on our stomachs not our heads. Having a support group is important too, I see so many people on here who have friends and family who try to sabotage them. It's sad. -
I fasted about 12 hours before surgery.

Welcome! If you poke around these forums, you are bound to come across lots of stories, advice, and answers to questions. Do you have any specific questions right now? I can tell you a little bit about my experience so far. I was sleeved on Sept. 1 (6 months ago yesterday!). I have turned out to be a "slow loser", which I was initially very frustrated about, but have come to embrace. I realized that this is diet or a race. I will never be "done" with my sleeve. So if it takes me 6 months or 16 months to get to goal, what does it matter? 10 years from now, if I am happy and healthy and maintaining my weight, will it really matter what date I hit goal? That is the number one lesson I would like to pass along to all new sleevers. PATIENCE! It is soooo hard to be patient, but it's what is required. Leading up to your sleeve, you are so anxious to just have it done, and it's tough to be patient. Then once you are sleeved, the first few weeks are so rough and you are so miserable and wondering if you will ever feel normal again. Those weeks require some SERIOUS patience! Then you have the weight loss itself... it might come off fast in the beginning, but you will hit stalls or just see it slow way down, even though you are working SO HARD and doing everything right. That's where the patience really comes in, because it gets easier and easier to go off track.... skip some exercise here... eat a cookie instead of your Protein there.... You think, "if being perfect isn't working, then why bother?" But it IS working... it's just not working as quickly as you might want. Be patient!

Today I'm still in pain, I kept getting hiccups from hell last night, my tummy is very sore from them. From what I read, it's a sign I was sipping to fast. So I'm really going slow on the drinking. Man alive its gonna be impossible to get in ample fluids in at first. Thank goodness there's unflavored protein powder I add to my water. This will all be worth it I keep telling myself. Praying for ya ????????

Anyone with a stricture
LipstickLady replied to lgravois's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My stricture is very slight. I love it and it keeps me honest. I refuse to get it corrected, in fact. It keeps me from eating more than a nibble of soft bread, Pasta, potatoes, rice... I can't eat fast, I have to chew well, and dry foods don't work. Water is hard, but I am working through it and it is getting easier. -

3 weeks post op only lost 15 lbs ????
Babbs replied to hootney1214's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
When was the last time you lost 15 lbs in 3 weeks? Do me a favor and just STAY OFF THE SCALE for a while and concentrate on your protein and liquids and getting healed up. You are also in the 3 week stall period of time. Your body has to adjust to the fast weight loss and take a little break. Stay the course, stay off the scale, and continue to heal. You're doing just fine -
I got Sleeved on May 12th as well. I am very happy I did this. I already knew that with a Sleeve the weight loss isn't as fast as with the Band or By-pass. That's OK with me. It gives my skin time to adjust. I didn't have any nausea & almost no pain. I started this process at 294 lbs & I'm down to 269. What I have really noticed is the difference in my clothes!! I need to stop weighing myself every day & I should measure myself. I didn't & wish I had done this. I've already given away my 3x size shirts. Yay!! I can wear my 2x shirts without the buttons being stretched. LOL. I would do this again. BTW, when I had my 2 weeks pre op diet I couldn't drink another Premier Protein shake - chocolate. I ordered their strawberry shake & love it. I also bought Protein powder from nectar & unjury. Really like both. The Unjury chicken broth is good. Also, I put 1% milk in the powder shakes. Using Water made me gag. It will increase your calorie count but I can have 800 calories a day so that's not an issue. The milk will add protein also. I tried the Isopure flavored water. It was so bad I had to pour it out. It totally turned my stomach over. Some people love this stuff. If you buy it I would only get 1 bottle to see how your stomach tolerates it. I bought 3 ($4 each) & couldn't stomach any of those flavors. I have also found that when my instructions say THINNED for pureed/soft foods then you should thin it. I tried avocado all mashed up & should have thinned it. My stomach felt so overloaded that it made me feel really rotten for about 3 hours. I thin everything now!! Well, except scrambled eggs. The Unjury brand you get on-line & the Nectar brand you can get at The Vitamin Store or on-line. I get my multi Vitamins & Calcium chewable from there also. They also carry a liquid vitamin & calcium but it's a lot more expensive than the chewables. The Vitamin Store has a lot of the products you need for any of the Bariatric surgeries. They sell individual servings of Nectar so you can try different flavors before you buy a large container. My new motto - Onward & Downward. Good luck with your Sleeve everyone.

Stuck ALL the time.... Stress??
Sojourner replied to finallytime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, stress definitely can cause your band to tighten up. I have noticed this from my early days with my band. My stress currently comes from my son's deployment to Afghanistan. There is nothing I can do about the situation, so I keep myself immersed in ongoing projects around the house. I also have no Fluid in my band, and some days it is difficult for me to swallow even Water. Exercise is my salvation, a win-win for me. Very sorry for your loss...best wishes to feel better fast! -
I never took any colon cleanser. I was on clear liquids only the 3 days prior to my surgery and that was it. work in the medical field and if you need a colon cleanser mag cit will work great. I left the hospital with an OnQ pain pump. I only got nauseas 2x and it came and went so fast I never even had a chance to use my anti nausea meds. I also took only 2 of the 40 vicodin he gave me. Not sure what else he prescribed that you will need 5. I cant tell you that you wont need them as we are all different but in my experience I didnt need them at all! Good luck!

Worried if i should do this
oly1169angel replied to black25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am wondering the same thing... Did I make the right choice and Can I do this?? My surgery is in 2 weeks and it has been a fast trip from decision to surgery. I am a self pay and therefore going to Mexico so we can afford it.. I made the decision and researched companies in late April thinking I would have surgery after Nov when hubby home from work for holidays then found out I could do it in July. Its been a whirlwind since... scheduling our time off work ( hubby works out of state and meeting me in San Diego and returning home with me for a week), flights, passports, and of course surgery date and finances. I have a cousin and several acquaintances who have had it and referred me to company and surgeon! Then Started 2 week pre op diet today and it hit me.,.I am really doing this. The excitement of surgery has changed into worry. What if I change to a worse person after surgery... so many things going thru mind. Just remembering to be me, be real and remember why I am doing this to live a happy healthier life. -
Please help me fiigure this out....
Angeleyes replied to Wyld Blu's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am having the same problem. I think it is because we eat to fast. -
Long story short..... I lived my life on a couch. Joined a gym in June. Couldn't walk on treadmill for more than ten minutes. Rode stationary bike to make up a few extra cardio minutes. Only DREAMED of elliptical. Stayed religious to five to six days a week....... Fast forward to Movember and December...... On elliptical ONE HOUR A DAY... Reaching a 10k + on a daily basis (about a 9:40 minute mile consistently throughout workout). Can't believe this 53 year old dog has learned new tricks!!!!!!

January 2009--approx 200 pounds & June 2009 approx 175 pounds :) I truly love my band! :)
haleyjane commented on haleyjane's gallery image in Member Photo Gallery
with my band I haven't had too much trouble. The thing that bothers me the most is bread. It is the only thing that ever gets "stuck", I make sure that I toast the bread before and take really small bites. Other than that I don't have too much trouble. It does take some time to get used to, before my band I used to just "scarf" things down really fast and i've learned that with the band I cannot do that! Good luck with surgery, I'm sure you will love it! -
Thanks everyone! I am so happy. I never imagined I'd make it this far, this fast.
