Hey, I'll be here waitin for you! Good luck with everything. Seriously, just trust the process, make good choices and enjoy the NSV's! My rings fitting again was the first of many for me....what about you? (And, BTW, I had small weight gains and some pretty long stalls along the way, but the overall trend was obviously weight loss)

What was your most recent NSV? (non-scale victory)
Teachamy replied to tamg26k's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Someone came up to me today looking very serious and said, "what are you doing?" I said, "what do you mean?" They repeated the question. Then they said, "you've lost so much weight! How did you do it?" My real NSV is that I've been at goal for so long now, I had no idea what he was talking about! I used to hear that several times a day, now people are used to the skinny new me. It felt pretty good! -

Not so much of a NSV for today, but one in general - I no longer get headaches. I used to get them pretty frequently but I can honestly say that I haven't had a headache of any sort for over 4 months! Maybe it is giving up caffeine or eating better, I don't know which, I just know I am headache free! -

sometimes i have one daily and sometimes i have them and dont realize it... i still consider me just walking a NSV that i am forever to my WLS of choice for.. oh, and putting my own socks on w/o asking my ole man to do it for me♥ -
But you got this.... Just stick with the program, and it will work. I lost 22 pounds on my 2 week preop and then took another 3 months to lose 30. What worked for me was upping my water and calories. Broke a month long stall doing that. And I've had other stalls along the way, but I just kept eating healthy, getting all my protein, water and vitamins and the eventually would lose a little more. Have faith and enjoy your NSV's.

I'm the same - I only get weighed at the dr. Last time I was weighed was 10/3. I won't get weighed again until 12/10. I try to concentrate more on the NSVs! -

Here is my NSV. This upcoming weekend I'm helping my nieces move furniture into their 3rd floor apartment. Why is this an NSV? Never in a million years would I have been able to climb the darn stairs, much less cheerfully volunteer to carry furniture up three flights! I can't wait to be around these twenty-somethings and get some good exercise! *cue Urkel* "Did I say that!?!" -
Is this a plateau?
bobbyswife replied to Lallylocks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm thinking about digging a giant hole, crushing my scale into tiny bits, and then putting those bits into said hole. Everyone gets so frustrated when the scale doesn't move, and that can't be healthy. It would take massive strength, but I'm seriously considering only being weighed at my surgeon post op visits at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. I'm looney to think I'd EVER be ok with that, but these posts remind be that it's an inevitable part of the process. Look for NSV's. Those are a much more fun way of feeling successful. -

There's that moment during weightloss when I notice- like really notice- that my waist is curved way in on the sides. There's my waist! No denying it. I noticed it a couple weeks ago but just catching a quick glance in the mirror in a rush to get ready to go. When I looked, really looked, well datum! My waist looks pretty good on me. It curves way in. I'm curvy- but not in a fat-way. My waist is quite a bit higher than I thought it was. My belly button is lower than I thought it was, too, no wonder after 2 C-sections and a couple rounds of weightloss. That's probably why I thought my waist was lower; because they tell you to measure your waist around your belly button, or just near it. Also, I'm petit, so maybe I thought my waist was lower to the ground, like me. ha Who knew? Now I know where my waist is- after all these years lol

Well I finally found out that after wearing a size 52 in men's jeans , I tried to fit in a size 38 , well I have a little more ways to go but I now know that I fit in a size 40_42 & that's in a men's Levi jeans so I would consider that a nsv I guess I went down about 10 sizes in 2 year the size 38s just didn't want to fit over my hips just yet .

I brought my mac to a repair place this weekend (Tekserve, for any NYC-based mac users out there) and you always have to wait at least a half hour to speak with someone and the chairs are kind of strange and small. When I walked in and saw how far my number was from being called and then looked at the seats and remembered not fitting into them in the past, I had a momentary panic that I'd have to stand awkwardly in the limited standing space, before realizing - hey, I probably fit in these chairs now - and I did! Total NSV! -

The timing on this thread is perfect as I just experienced a delightful NSV yesterday. It was chilly and I was looking for a sweatshirt to put on...the nearest one was my 13 year old son's size small Hollister sweatshirt. Put it on, zipped it up - rocked it. Ha ha! -

Speaking of jeans...when I was in size 16/18ish, I'd buy them really tight in the tummy to try to make it look like I wasn't as big as I was. Of course this was just denial. I'm all of five feet tall so wearing a size that big didn't fool anyone except me. Once I was in size 20 and larger, I just ignored it completely because I was so very large. But I noticed yesterday slipping into my size 6 jeans, that they were a little loose so I thought I needed to buy a smaller size but when I looked at myself in the mirror, I realized my midsection is so small now that the jeans don't have to be tight anymore because there's alot less to try to hide. In fact, the backside and legs sections are alot worse than the tummy/midsection. That's where the jeans are really looking saggy. I guess everything is a NSV when you've lost what's tantamount to a whole other human being. -

For me, I recently took a trip and was able to fly without a seat belt extender. In fact, I really had to tighten up the seat belt. This is really big for me because I love to travel but I always had anxiety about flying. Now I have 3 more trips planned over the next 6 months. My treat to myself for my weight loss. The money I am saving by rarely eating out has made this possible! I guess that is 2 NSVs! -
NSV - something I never would have pre weight loss
CowgirlJane posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I recently met some people who are Harley riding hobbyists. They were talking about going on a group ride for charity and it hit me that was something that would be different, new experience to try, but that I also had some fear about. i mentioned that i would be into checking it out and thusly got a free ride on a "christmas toy drive". Well, I was very afraid at first... especially the turns. I realized that my fear was largely based on thinking i must outweigh this guy by a ton, how could he possibly keep the bike stable with my weight throwing things outta wack. We kind of talked through the physics of it all and I realized that I am a normal sized person now and no different then the other passengers he has carried. I borrowed chaps and other gear - and they fit, no stress. Wow, I had this mental image that chaps designed for a woman wouldn't zip over my thighs or buckle around my waist, but they fit just fine. I have been at maintainance since Feb 2013, I wear single digit clothing sizes, and I STILL have those thoughts of being too fat for things.... So we get to the starting place and only then do I realize that magnitude of this event (found out later about 110 motercycles riding together) and that the organizers were flying colors so to speak. oh, okay. Anyway, it went fine, it was mellow, everyone was respectful and safe during the ride and it was a good time. It lasted way longer than I expected, but we donated toys, bought raffle tickets and otherwise supported a christmas toy drive for local families. I know big group rides aren't always fun (I have horses, so similiar experience) since you can't do your own thing, but for me this was absolutely thrilling to ride in a big pack where they stopped traffic and all to let the bikes get through and to mostly enjoy beautiful country roads, small towns and even the short stint at interstate speeds (scary again though!) I am not ready to join a motorcycle gang, but it was a fun event I would have never even dared trying before.... -
Slower than expected Weight Loss in the beginning
Kindle replied to rumpole6's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
First, don't compare yourself to others (but FYI, I lost nothing the first week and a half and it took me 3 months to lose 30 pounds. I was thrilled. I considered myself lucky because losing slowly is much healthier) Second, you are losing so whats the problem Three, you are approaching the famous 3 week stall so you may not lose anything for a couple weeks. It's normal. Fourth, this surgery is meant to be a lifetime commitment, not a race to see how fast you can take off the weight it took years (or decades) to put on. Your goal should be eating healthy and establishing new habits, not watching numbers. I suggest staying off the scale for 1-2 months. Measure your progress with NSV's rather than meaningless numbers on the scale. I don't even own a scale at only weighed at the doctor's office for the first couple months. You are adding unnecessary stress to your life by worrying about these things. Just get in all your Protein, Water and Vitamins, and trust the process. -
What are you excited for?
alwaysvegas replied to Brn2blossom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You all are on such a great journey and are going to feel better and better! I began losing weight mid-January this year. My surgery was the end of July. So far this year I have: Lost over 100 lbs Went from size 46 pants to size 36 (and still dropping!) Quit smoking Quit sodas Quit caffeine Quit most processed foods Started exercising (cardio + strength training) 4-5 days a week Cured sleep apnea Cholesterol normalized Cured diabetes (I was pre-diabetic) pre-surgery Blood pressure normalized Bought a fantastic new wardrobe Let me tell you all...I just went on vacation and I sat in the airplane seat and I cold cinch the belt halfway now. I needed an extender before. If any of you have been in that embarrassing situation, let me tell you...cinching an airplane belt is a huge validation! I could've cried. I could cross my legs too! While on vacation I walked for HOURS without problem. I even went hiking for several hours. Not a pain in my back or legs. I felt HEALTHY. food still tastes delicious, but it only takes a small amount to get that full feeling that I could never seem to get before surgery. Food doesn't rule my life now. Eating is actually sort of nuisance at times...I'd rather be doing something else, but I haven't eaten in four hours lol! I can't believe that. I bought some chili while on vacation and I had to throw half of it away because I was full. I don't think I've ever thrown food away in my life. I'm still laughing at that. Keep those positive attitudes folks! You will still have to do the work, but the sleeve is the most incredible tool I could've hoped for! Don't forget that there will be many great victories along the way to your goal weight...those are the non-scale victories (NSV) you'll see so many of us talking about. Best of luck to you all! -
Ate my first egg this morning, think I am doing ok?
joatsaint replied to CheleLynn45's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
eggs were one of the toughtest foods for Frankesleeve to readjust to. Scrambled eggs seem to be a slider food for me, but hard boiled eggs are filling and I'm not able to eat as much. I didn't realize it at first, but chicken was one of the toughest things for me to digest. Congrats on your NSV and doing so well. -
My 1st birthday in 36 years with no cake ????
joatsaint replied to kikicoates78's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on doing so well. Passing on the cake is a grest NSV! Don't worry about stalls, it's just your body's way of adjusting to the weight loss. I found that if I just stuck to my food and calorie goals, the weight would start dropping again. I've gone through at least 1 stall about every 6 weeks during the 1st year, including the dreaded 3rd week stall - right after surgery. During a stall, I tried to keep in mind that, pre-surgery, I would have been sooooo happy just to lose ANY amount of weight on a consistant basis - as long as I saw the scale moving down, instead of up.
