Of Course I Am Scared...but I Want It.
Texarkolina replied to GiGi3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome! First of all--take a deep breath and let it out slowly. All the concerns you mentioned are part of this. We have all asked those questions. When I first started seeking weight loss surgery I was irritated that the approval process and pre-op testing and such took so long. Now I am 11 days away from my surgery and am glad I had a lot of time to really ask all the questions and get answers. You don't have to have all the answers right now. Give yourself some time. Look around on this site--it is really helpful. Go to the consult--ask a lot of questions. In a little while you will know if this is right for you or not. -
one thing i decided to do is to go on a liquid diet for 2 to 3 days before i think about getting another fill - that way you shrink your pouch down as low as possible and if you dont need a fill then you will get some good restriction back from doing that otherwise if you are still not full on 1 cup of solid food after doing liquid for 2 or 3 days then you know you are probably ready for a fill. Another benefit of doing that is it kick starts you into a good loss again too if you are plateauing.

New Blog For Australian Lap-Band Patients And/or Prospective Patients
Alex Brecher posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A new blog has recently been launched for Australian LAP-BAND patients and/or prospective patients. It’s unique as the articles are written exclusively by experienced bariatric healthcare professionals. You can share any article you'd like using social media. The intent of this blog is to give Australian’s accurate and helpful information on gastric banding and weight loss surgery in general. I think the Australian LAP-BAND talk community should be aware of this new blog: http://blog.gastricbandingprocedure.com.au/ -
Hi Teresa , I was banded on 1/29/07 by Dr. DeBarrios at the Arizona Weight Loss Ctr.located in Tempe. I'm new to Arizona and am not sure how far away Tolleson is from Tempe. I know he takes Self Pay Patients since I am one. I think a fill is about $250. I am not sure since I have not had one yet ! Hope this helps. A Fellow Bandster, Joanne

My weight loss charted since pre- op 50% to goal weight.

I weighed 355 (Nov '16) Surgery weight 338 Current weight 283 (I didn't track very often before so I would disregard previous data points.) But you can clearly see sudden drops, weight gains and stalls. Rarely matching my consistent dedication to my plan. I know as I change my relationship with food and make good choices in each moment and day, the rest will take care of itself. Just not in a perfect line. I am considering the Gastric Sleeve Surgery; however, I am want to speak with someone that has had this surgery sometime ago. My questions are did they meet their weight loss goals? Have they had any problems? Are they keeping the weight off?

I would NOT recommend grazing, as that is a way of "eating around" the restriction of the sleeve. What I would recommend is 5-6 small, high-Protein meals/snacks per day. Eating frequently will help you avoid feeling hungry between meals. Grazing all day, on the other hand defeats the purpose of being sleeved. 5-6 small meals is grazing to me; as I mentioned I went from one meal to several. I'm not suggesting carrying a bag of chips and eating all day. The point is to eat small and space it throughout the day, and honestly grazing for some people work in terms of weigh loss or maintenance. It's a question of what your body needs and how well it responds to it.

A Little Bummed
Butterthebean replied to giraffequeen's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My doc told me not to even weigh myself until I was 2 weeks out (of course I did anyway). Your body is going through some major changes. Your weight will fluctuate. You've just had major surgery, you've started exercising and drastically changed your diet. Your body needs time to adjust to all this. The scale is not an accurate reflection of fat loss over such a short period of time. Be patient. This is normal. Hide your scale. Use a tape measure instead. -
Surgery in 40 hours yet still no approval...

How frustrating! I hope you get good news today. (I would be pulling my hair out!) I'm kind of surprised they scheduled you without clearance. There's still the same wait, but it's a little less nerve-wracking if you don't already have your hopes up (and plans made). -

First and foremost is to not get fat in the first place, and second would be to get better parents - it's primarily a genetic thing. There are lots of potions and creams out there that purport to tighten loose skin, and some might actually do something in minor cases. The problem is, beyond the nature of the industry for cosmetics, nutritional supplements and other miracle cures, is that it is very difficult to validate the claims with any kind of double blind control testing. With all the personal variables involved, it's virtually impossible to get two groups of effectively identical people together to test the value of these products (assuming the manufacturers were so inclined, which they rarely are.) So, yes, we will find people who used this or that product and report a certain result. The problem is that they have no idea whether that product did anything at all versus having done nothing. Give it your best shot, use what seems to be the best product, and see how it goes. Losing more slowly has some merit, though the major difference would be in losing your weight over five years versus six months. The difference between getting to goal in ten months versus eight months would be insignificant. Some are naturally slower losers than others due to their metabolism; however, the danger in trying to lose more slowly by consuming more while losing is that you may never get all the weight off that you want to get off. Our overall metabolism (resting plus activities) will trend lower as we lose since we have progressively less weight to move around (the main exception being those who seriously ramp up their exercise as they progress - as in marathon training levels,) We go into weight maintenance when our consumption meets that declining metabolic burn, so we can end up short on our loss if we consume too much.

Hernia? My first hiccup on this journey - how will they repair it?
Biddy zz 🏳️🌈 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi team I have been quiet this week - I am in China and the Internet is ... patchy. Great visit - managed my official banquet lunches and dinners with dignity, a bite of every dish (there are usually 12-20 different items, all circulation on a lazy Susan - you never know how many will come and are constantly exhorted to eat more, try another signature dish. Lucky the food is healthy, proteinous. And I have dropped a couple more pounds this week 😁) Just before I left I went scuba diving and as I was training, lifting tanks on and off my dive buddy, I felt like I pulled a wee muscle, off to the left side of my breastbone to navel RNY scar - right where my gastric band port used to be, in fact. So it just seemed to get worse, until it stabbed when I sneezed, or coughed. And THEN I noticed (when stretching and admiring my new curvy waist in the mirror!) a lump, right there in the sore spot... “Think it is a hernia out through the port scar, you have split those muscles. Fly business class to China” said the Dr (fat chance!!) Off for an ultrasound when I get home Tuesday. If it is, does anyone know if it can be repaired WITHOUT that gastric mesh? My port was on mesh and it made mayhem. I don’t want new mesh!! [By the way, my weight loss surgery buddies, I would repeat this even if I knew I would get an annual hernia. This whole experience has been so so easy, smooth, empowering...] -

I've been losing since the beginning of my 3rd month (almost 6 mths out). I take biotin and I don't know if it's going to help or not but I heard good reviews about biosil so I ordered some. It doesn't make new hair but helps preserve what you have and makes it healthier. I also had 6 inches cut off my hair, the weight was pulling it down and I was forced to wear it up alot during the heat..which isn't good on your hair. I may be losing hair but I'm losing weight,,the hair will come back,,the pounds won't -
Well it looks like theres no way around it lol. I have black hair and have very light complection as well. I guess the only way to find out how bad it is, is to wait and see. Any other products out there? So far I like the sound of biosil and I guess the fusion one wouldnt be bad if it was only for a few months

I lost lots of hair after I had my daughter (still losing it actually). So I think this is a fair trade. I know it will grow back. And worse case, for a few months... A wig lol. I've dyed and cut my hair so much this should be cake.

Hi my name is Marcie12, I had my surgery 4 weeks ago. I have lost 29 pounds and most of that in the first week. I feel very overwhelmed on remembering when to eat, when to drink, protein shakes, vitamins. It is a whole new world and I somtines feel like a fish out of water. I also seem to be allot quiter than before the surgery, more sensative, and very much aware of myself. I was wondering if anyone else felt that way. I have been walking on my eliptical for the past week and worked myway up to 25min. I have trouble walking because of a bad hip that needs replacing in a few months. That is one of the reasons I had the surgery to loss as much weight as I could before the hip operation. I am new at this so that is all I have to say for now.

Just a quick little update. All is going well. I have my monthly appointment next week with the doctor to see how my weight loss is going. I've lost 7 lbs since I saw him three weeks ago. I don't think I need another fill. I can overeat if I want to (not like before but more than I should). I just try to stop when I am full. I seem to eat small snacks throughout the day mostly. I usually try to consume less than 2000 calories a day- but it's normally between 1200-1500 a day. I still don't exercise like I should. One of these days... right? Hope all of you out there are doing good on your band journey. Take care.

Hey gang! I'm currently on a six month path to get the gastric sleeve. My BMI is quite high, so I've got to lose 100LBS before I can set the date. Anyone here succeeded in such a feat, and on to get the sleeve? I'm determined, but I just don't know if it's possible for me, as I'm so heavy it's quite hard to "work out". Plus, I just found out I'm Diabetic, and what to eat was already confusing for me, but now I'm at a loss. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
