I like the pure protein bars, The EAS Advantage Carb Control protein drinks only have 100 calories and 17 grams of protein and taste great. Light and lively Greek yogurt is really good too and turkey or beef jerky. I find all of these to be a good snack for protein.

I had a day where I was trying to get my Protein in very early on and it was just crappy. Everything I tried to drink was just horrible. I was on clears, and the Isopure was working (it's not great, but I've had worse), but I was so tired of it that I was trying the other things I'd bought in preparation for surgery. My nose was so sensitive to that "protein" smell I could barely get anything down and it was all disgusting to me. I was definitely frustrated. Luckily the next day I got to start the full liquids so shakes and all that got introduced back in. It was so much better because there is a bit more choice than clear options. (Although even then there were days it was hard to finish my protein goal because it was just really sweet by the end of those two weeks.) You will get through it. It's not easy, but it is definitely worth it. Stick to the plan and don't let yourself rationalize eating off plan. Especially not while your stomach is so new. You will make it and you'll be so happy when you get that 1-2 oz portion of refried Beans or yogurt lol.

What to eat after surgery and just all around helpful things..
winning_by_losing replied to pik's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I absolutely hated the mushy stage. Couldn't stand yogurt or cottage cheese nor oatmeal. That pretty much left me to alternate between cheesy mashed potatos and canned chili. I did discover though that hot sauce was my best friend. I could alter the taste enough with different sauces that not every meal tasted exactly the same. I think I went through half a jar of cayenne pepper during this phase. As for the pills - I was able to handle them 1 week out, but I think that really depends on the person, whether you typically use liquid as a chaser or to help swallow them, etc... But the number one thing I'd recommend is not to stock up on anything until after you've tried it a time or two after your surgery. I made the mistake of stocking up on a few things (Isopure Protein drinks, SF popsicles, greek yogurt etc...) and after surgery couldn't choke them down if you paid me. -
Being Honest 3 Wks Post-Op, No Dieting For Me
emily_0192010 replied to Jesusislove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Well first I want to say congrats on being sleeved! I am also slightly envious as at 3 weeks I couldn't eat the way you do! (Not that you eat badly, I simply had no room and could barely get Water down). I am now 6 months out and I do not count anything other than Protein... and even though I only count the obvious. So for example I count my Protein shake or my yogurt (I add in protein) or the cheese stick I eat... but I don't weigh my meat so I can do an exact count. Typically for me I hit either on or over my protein min with the things that are easy to count, so I know that any meat I eat is just contributing to going over my protein min and I don't count it. I will say that I am careful to a point about my carbs. If it interferes with my protein I stay away from them. So I'll have the "stuff" in a sandwich without the bread (bread hurts me anyways). But if we go out for ice cream as a group, I'll get a kids size and stop when i'm full. As long as you meet your protein mins and don't go crazy (like a milkshake every day) you should be fine. Oh, and (this may have been said in previous posts, but i didn't have time to read them all) they make many, many lactose free Protein shakes. You should be able to find one easily. Good luck! -
So, to me, that does seem like it's a bit more than one would expect from an immediate post-op diet. That said, I only have my own experiences from which to speak and if this is the diet that your doctor prescribed, then they may have a reason. For comparison, here is the diet I am on currently (I hit 10 weeks post-op tomorrow), which is not really standard for most programs that I've seen: 2 times a week: Breakfast - 9am - 2 scoops of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (185 calories) Lunch - 1pm - 1 scoop of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (115 calories) Snack - 4pm - 1 protein bar (18-20g of protein -Think, Pure Protein, or Built Bar) (160-230 calories) Dinner - 7pm - 1 protein bar (18-20g of protein -Think, Pure Protein, or Built Bar) (160-230 calories) 60+ ounces of water (usually Crystal Light) (40 calories if all Crystal Light) 1 time a week: Breakfast - 9am - 2 scoops of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (185 calories) Lunch - 1pm - 1 scoop of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (115 calories) Snack - 4pm - 1 bottle of Premiere Protein protein water (20g of protein in 16.9 ounces of fluids) (90 calories) Dinner - 7pm - 1 protein bar (18-20g of protein -Think, Pure Protein, or Built Bar) (160-230 calories) 4 times a week: (up from 3x/week as of this week) Breakfast - 9am - 2 scoops of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (185 calories) Lunch - 1pm - 1 scoops of Celebrate 4-in-1 in 8oz of unsweetened almond milk + 2 tsp Benefiber (115 calories) Snack - 4pm - 1 protein bar (18-20g of protein -Think, Pure Protein, or Built Bar) (160-230 calories) Dinner - 7pm - 3-4.oz of allowable soft foods (I've had ground chicken, ground turkey, pureed chicken salad made with hummus & greek yogurt, ricotta bake, baked/steamed whitefish, scrambled eggs) (210 - 250 calories) So I think there would be room to make adjustments to your diet plan, as long as you would still be hitting your protein goals, but that is definitely a conversation you would want to have with your doctor. Simply be upfront with them about your concerns about the slow weight loss and ask for guidance on how to make changes to your diet plan to facilitate better results. Some times you have to make those changes to the diet plan in order to keep your body on it's toes!

Diet plan that I was given is f'd up
TLW replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You really won't feel very hungry for a few months, but by your first month some easy digestible foods are Yogurt, scrambled eggs, shredded chicken, turkey with a broth (moist is the easiest to eat), peanut butter, protein shakes, sugar free pudding, sugar free jello. You basically will work on eating protein and very little 2-3 ounces will fill you, I know it sounds crazy, but I am a year post mop and 4 ounces of chicken fills me up. Also remember natural sugars versus processed sugar foods are very different. I haven't had bananas yet. Remember the majority of weight you lose will be during the first 5-6 months and the. It really starts to slow down, so enjoy the not feeling hungry and just focus on proteins, and keeping hydrated. I live on chickens, Powerade zero and coffee -

Not loosing weight after one point !
catwoman7 replied to Neossa's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
my snacks are usually something like a protein shake or a Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt. Occasionally I'll have some baby carrots with about 1/4 C hummus (raw vegetables can be hard on my stomach, even two years out, but because they can be irritating, it stops me from eating too much. Hey - whatever works!). At night I'll sometimes have a couple of sugar free popsicles. Like raw vegetables, the sugar alcohols in sugar free popsicles bother my stomach, so all I can handle is two of them. I also eat Light & Fit yogurt occasionally at night, too, especially if I'm craving ice cream. The creaminess/sweetness/dairy aspect of the yogurt hit the same spot as ice cream would. I also drink *a lot* of fluid (usually Crystal Light) - which helps sometimes, but I know sometimes you just have to have real food... -
On the go cheese - babybel, laughing cow, cheese sticks Jerky Lunchables (don't eat the crackers) Okios triple zero yogurts (cup or drink) Ready to drink Protein drinks High protein chips/crackers like Quest, WonderSlim, Medifast etc. I make unflavored Protein added puddings and Gelatin. You can buy 2-5oz cups and lids at your local restaurant supply store. At home meals I've made shrimp (ground) curry with zucchini, chicken and cheese stuffed crepes, Korean bbq, swai with again glaze, crust less quiche. They all have 300cals or less per serving with 17g protein or more. Homemade protein fudgecicles 12oz fairlife milk and 2 scoops GENEPRO. Mix well and pour into 6 pack 3oz popcicle mold. Makes 6 serving 54 cals and 10g protein. Can add in things like PB2, banana baby food, instant coffee, sugar free syrups or ground freeze dried strawberries for only a few more cals and carbs.

I also had fat-free refried Beans - I used shredded low-fat cheddar, some salsa anad a small dallop of low-fat sour cream with mine. Careful with the carbs though - they can add up with beans. Had lots of canned chicken and tuna - added low-fat mayo and pickle relish. Cottage cheese and yogurt (check out Yoplait's 2X Protein!) are easy and high in Protein. The Protein shakes are a good boost of protein when you need it. I "mushed up" the meatloaf, gravy and mashed potatoes from a SmartOnes frozen dinner. That was pretty yummy - and easy!!! I divided the meat, gravy and potatoes into 2 perfectly proportioned meals - about 1/2 cup each. oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, Malt O Meal are good but again, watch the carbs...... Good luck! It's a nice step up from liquids

What To Eat?! Please Help!
Bufflehead replied to Cari hernandez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a lot of: poached egg over refried beans pureed tuna salad pureed chicken salad pureed chicken with barbecue sauce hummus Greek yogurt nonfat cottage cheese with hot sauce or chipotle salad dressing stirred in for flavor pureed shrimp salad I didn't have any trouble tolerating any of that. Just kept the amounts very very small - no more than 3 tablespoons of food per meal. -
I had Clear liquids for a few days, then yogurt, creamed Soups, then full liquids - full liquids is anything that is a liquid at room temp - so applesauce, yogurt, Italian ice. I got tired of sweet things. Mushy foods were hard for me bc I love a crunch. Now I'm at week 7 and my nut says I can have almost anything (no steak, drier meats for four months). I chew a ton. You will know quickly what your stomach doesn't like!
-
I didn't puree anything. I couldn't think of anything grosser. I've stuck with foods close to puree: protein drinks, yogurt, fortified pudding, ect. Once I got to other foods, I just took very small bites and chewed really well. That included scrambled eggs. Personally, I'd rather chew to pureed consistency, rather than drinking a "food shake." My gag reflex would take over otherwise. That's just my opinion though, so that and $5 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

@@Kristin Irvine it is hard! I had my surgery August 5 too. I'm still having to supplement with Protein powders or drinks to get enough. I put protein in my Water -- either part of a New whey bullet or 1/2 a package of unjury strawberry with some Crystal light. I get really full on things like grilled salmon or tuna steaks (I'm a pescatarian -- don't eat read meat, pork, or poultry.) So, I'm eating a lot of those foil pouches of tuna, which are packed with protein. I have one of those almost every day for lunch or cottage cheese, which is another good source for me, and of course Greek yogurt. And tofu. I'm weird, I know, but I love tofu, and it's really easy for me to digest. Are you following the rule to eat protein first? That's the most important thing, I find. That way, I don't fill up on other foods first. (As a result, I'm probably not getting enough Fiber. Sigh.)

need to shrink liver.....help
PinePal replied to angelicforever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start my pre-op (liver shrinking) diet on monday. 1/2 cup cream of wheat for breakfast, a 1/2 cup yogurt for lunch, and 1/2 cup of creamy Soup for dinner. I also get to have 8 oz of Protein shake and milk over the course of the day. My husband just got banded on Monday and did this 2 weeks of pre-op dieting as well. He lost 10 pounds or so. That is what our surgeon expects. I wish you luck with your liver shrinkage. -
I start every day with Protein hot cocoa, but you do have to watch the temp and warm it up slowly. I warm a cup of unsweetened almond milk in the microwave, add a scoop of chocolate Protein Powder and 2T unsweetened cocoa and a dash of salt (cuts the artificial sweetener flavor), and mix very well with a whisk. Sometimes I thin it a bit with some hot Water, or microwave it a few seconds longer to warm it up, but it will thicken a lot if you get it too hot - the protein "firms" up (like cooking an egg). You can actually use this tendency to cook to your advantage - there are a lot of recipes "out there" for protein "cake" or "muffins" or even "cookies" made with protein powder and often eggs, other liquids, sweetener, etc. cooked in a minute or two in the microwave. Some flavors of protein powder are really good added to plain greek yogurt - I like the nectar twisted cherry this way. Or, blend with almond milk and ice cubes to make a kind of soft serve ice cream. I've always been told the best protein is whey protein isolate - it's best digested by your body so you get the most benefit from it, but it's also the most expensive, so for cheaper brands you'll often find a blend of whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate.

I'm Scared - Something is going wrong - HELP PLEASE
piercedqt78 replied to My_o_My's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's good to hear the liquids are helping. I just discovered something called keifer, it is a pro biotic (kinda like a yogurt smoothie) and has some live cultures in it. I am on a very strong antibiotic and it has helped to protect my stomach. Might be worth checking out, I got mine in the dairy section right beside yogurt. Dannon makes it, so does lifeway. I bought the lifeway, it was cheaper had more in it and came in more flavors. Maybe that will help to coat your stomach and also boot the immune system. ~Mandy -
Certain foods and changes
Fiddleman replied to Carol Watts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is certainly true. I used to love peach and banana flavors for most my adult life in yogurt, drinks, etc. after being sleeved, these no longer appeal to me and makes me a little nauseous. I used to love the banana creme light yogurt!! -
Cheated on Pre-op Diet Need Help!
wishmeluck13 replied to luvinke's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey I am right there with you. I am on day three of my two week liquid pre-op diet and yes I cheated as well. I had a broiled fish and salad (italian dressing) from Captain D's. At first I felt guilty, but I feel sooo much better and I have been continuing my sugar free drinks and yogurt. I feel I can now do it! I know you can as well! Good Luck! -
Tried A New Protein Drink Today
keybold64 replied to DebiC's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I totally agree - I tried about 5 different kinds of protein shakes prior to surgery and the ones from Costco were by far my favorite! Haven't tried the vanilla ones, I'm happy with the chocolate I also mix in a 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt to my shakes to get an additional 11.5g of protein. Plus a half banana just because I love bananas! Yummy! -
Reading online about LapBand failured
SarahMarie123 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all  I am getting banded on 09-10-10 and am looking online (maybe too much!) for information on the lap band. I know what I am signing up for... but I stumbled upon a website that people post their negative lap band experiences on. A few of them are saying they throw up every meal...even if it is a small Protein meal like chicken, tuna or yogurt. This has me freaked out. I know that the process is hard...and I know that I will be working "with" my band to achieve weight loss and a healthy life...does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks! Only gatorade? Yikes! I had slim fast and about 2 oz yogurt yesterday, today I had more yogurt (2 oz), 10 oz of milk, and am having tomato Soup now.. have had mabye 1/2 cup over almost an hour... my problem is I can't seem to tell if I'm full yet, but I don't feel hungry at all... even before eating. I think the pain is masking those "sensors"... anyone else experience that? -
Swallow/leak test: I didn't have obe
trekker954 replied to SandyinFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was at Cleveland Clinic and they do not do a swallow test either (even though its mentioned in their handbook). I was thrilled. Water is a big issue for many patients. I too use to drink lots of water pre surgery. Bottled and/or from my faucet. I also did a lot of research. One wonders how can water be difficult to drink after surgery. But it was for me as well. Regardless warm, hot, cold or room temp. It just sat in my chest. Even the smallest sip. What I read and is true for me, you need to soften it with something, anything. Cyrstal light, ice tea, warm tea. When I do this, and I rarely use an entire packet I can drink my water just fine. I spoke with my nutritionist yesterday and she said, if I want just plain water, to try distilled water and I will find that easy to drink. Either way, she said, I will eventually be able to drink plain water again as I did pre surgery. I didn't ask her how long. I had an early appointment yesterday and since it was really my first day out on my own, I decided to run a bunch of errands. Its amazing how easy life interferes. By the time I got home at 1 pm. (I left at 8), I realized all I had drank was one 16 ou bottle of water (with crystal light). I thought about stopping and picking up water, but I knew its too hard to drink now. Here it was 1 pm. and I was far far behind on my Protein and water intake. My NUT cleared me for yogurt, but I didn't want to chance trying that on the road. By the end of the day, I just was kind of quesy so passed on introducing yogurt or cottage cheese into my day. I know this is a full time job now to stay on top of my liquids and protein. -
I have to know if we can have sf ice cream during the full liquid stage or if we can have sf frozen yogurt.....My throat is so raw from the intubation and cold things make it feel better. I know ice cream is not a good food choice but with me being limited to certain things for right now I do not see where it would hurt in a small amount and being sf....please do not respond to tell me that this is a bad food choice this is only something I am wanting to do for a few days to soothe my throat......Thank you

what are some easy ways of getting protein in
kulita replied to toy27's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you get Unjury's Strawberry sorbet you can make popsicles, jello, and fruit jell pies with it! You can add it to some lemonade for a strawberry lemonade drink, or do like my friend does and make it with some yogurt for a strawberry cheesecake flavor.
