    WTF Hunger?

    So the idea of eating liquids and things without texture or grain is that they don't want to stimulate the gut to start "churning" and scrunching like it does when solid or semi-solid foods are introduced. When I was on full liquids I was allowed: clear fluids without sugar or caffeine, protein drinks, and yogurt that was low carb/low sugar and free of any fruit that was thinned down to pourable consistency (think soup texture). I was also allowed ice pops (sf) and sf jello. The problem with eating pureed soups thinned down at this stage is that even pureeing chicken will leave a sludgish texture that has grit or grain to it. And it will cause your stomach to grind too much. So don't try to game the system. If it doesn't appear on your plan, don't do it. LOL. You CAN make up cream soups with Fairlife FF Milk. Strain it and slowly add in a scoop of unflavored protein in order to up your protein content of the meal. That would add smooth consistency, absence of texture and should help satiety by upping your protein. And FYI, 1 pint should take you about 8 hours or more to consume at your stage. Each meal 2 hours apart and 4oz per meal approximately.

    Siggis for me too. It has more protein than carbs. A lot of the other yogurts have the reverse.

    PEGGO, funny you ask, today is the first I experienced a mild tummy ache with food and I don't know what to make of it! Even soft foods like cottage cheese or yogurt. I decided to go back to clear liquids for a few days!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

  5. KISS is just "keep it simple sweetie (or stupid)" lol. And you know that means pretty much what @ms.sss is so awesome at! Oh many use your pb2 in a couple different ways. (I have the Vitacost version which is less sweet tasting to me.) 1. Smoothie: bananas and cream protein (powder or liquid), 1oz blueberries frozen, 1-2 oz baby spinach (optional), pb2, ice, cashew milk unsweetened - any sweetener you want or need. Blend the crap outta it until it's kinda just baby poo greenish and WELL blended! 2. Yogurt/Cottage Cheese "Soup": 57g Greek plain yogurt, 57g Good Culture Cottage Cheese (or more), 2oz of bananas and cream PP or strawberries and cream PP or peaches and cream PP, 12g PB2, stir it all up. Top with 1oz frozen blueberries and 1/2oz of almonds or walnuts. 3. Chia Pudding. Take the above recipe and add 1 tbsp chia seeds and chillax in fridge for about an hour or so to gel up. So so good!

    Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

    Ironically, last week after like four bites of frozen yogurt my mom freaked out on me about gaining my weight back and how I needed to reign things back in. She was so over the top aggressive, it made me realize that I was not the only one who had an unhealthy relationship with weight. It brought me right back to my childhood. I quickly placed firm boundaries around this issue, which she is not doing well with ... but a healthy relationship with food is about me not her. And I will continue on this journey strong ... creating my new life, including healthy relationships with both food and people. Good luck to us all!

    1st day on purΓ©e food

    ugh 😞I'm jealous, but also so happy for you! I'm on day 2 of puree and I can't keep anything down. Had greek yogurt w puree strawberries for breakfast ... had to go to the bathroom 15 minutes later. Wasn't the worst. I've been eating slow as molasses, but I just cant get anything to stay down. Had not even half a scrambled egg for later in the afternoon, and I swear to you, without even having to gag the eggs just started crawling back up my throat. I've never thrown up like that before... it's not painful. Like, I'm not in pain but I feel utterly weak. I went back to drinking my protein to make sure I had enough for the day since the food wont stay down. I know they said things are different now and people can do puree 2 weeks after surgery, but I think I need to give myself more time.
  8. Started soft solids today, 10 days post-op (2 days early). 1 egg + 1/4 cup egg beater + a dollop of plain greek yogurt to smooth it out, scrambled, + reduced sugar ketchup Went down fine. I just had to eat slowly. Took about 25 minutes to eat. Protein Shake Ricotta bake (I changed the recipe that's been floating around by doing half cottage cheese, adding spinach, and adding some parmesan) Filled an 8oz ramekin with the ingredients, which I knew would probably be too big for a meal. I was right. I finished about half of it over 25 minutes and felt uncomfortable and had a little bit of pain. My stomach "sleeve" did not feel physically full. I just felt it in my lower esophagus... which I guess is my stomach now. I don't know, I guess I don't know what full feels like anymore. I finished the rest after waiting 15 minutes, and the second half took about 20 minutes. I'm very happy to be eating normalish food again, but I may have overdone it with the portion for dinner and introducing too much on my first soft solids day.
  9. I'm no expert but from what I'm seeing in this thread 18-20lbs seems to be more or less the average for where you're at, with the sleeve. The RNY folks seem a bit further on, and of course everyone loses at their own rate. I'm 23 days post op and I'm eating about the same: today was a protein drink, a yogurt, and a 2.5oz tuna pouch with 3 parmesan crisps. I'm doing 1-2 hours of walking a day for exercise. 20 pounds in a month is pretty great, so I definitely wouldn't sweat it too hard. PS: Eating protein shakes with milk is a good way to start the day already 31g up on protein. I use Syntrax's Cappucino with 1% milk and it's a huge helpβ€”plus not horrid tasting.

    I tried ricotta bake today. I think I could only manage 1.5 Oz it felt heavy. I did eat a soft scrambled egg for breakfast very very slowly but I didn’t really like the texture. It felt odd. Finished my day out with Greek yogurt and protein shakes

    Ok, so I'm gonna give you unpopular advice, but advice that comes from the men and women who give us these surgeries and the RDs who work for them... We will never be "perfect" but you can at least plan for "ideal" and accept that you are human. What the means? Don't look at mini meals as high reward events to "treat" yourself. Don't plan for maintaining or supporting the negative habit of "snacking" by making it a high reward event. Go for boring. Go for fuel. Change the thought and reframe it. Right now, you need to eat minimeals cuz of your volume limits and how new you are post op. So each meal should NOT consist of highly processed foods. It should be 3-6 pretty evenly balanced calorie/macro mini-meals. (And from my standpoint I try to do clean/low reward/minimally processed foods that still satisfy--but that's just me.) So mini meals now, since I can get most if not all of my food into 3 events, is actually 3 meals + 1-2 "snacks" of 100cals or less (think raw veggies and a yogurt ranch dip--homemade) if ABSOLUTELY necessary. Snacking is a slippery slope--especially if you can eat 1cup of food volume per meal. It just packs on mindless (often slidery calories) that will inhibit maximum weight loss. And it's so possible to have a 500-600 calorie snack from crap! And if we've made it to the MO Ball, chances are we KNOW how to snack. So a better question would be, what are some QUICK and easy mini meals? 1. Cheese stick/baby bel/light wedges 2. 1-2oz rotisserie chicken 3. L/F or plain yogurt with 1oz blueberries + PB2 powder 4. Cottage cheese + 1oz of some kind of fruit you can eat or some savory veg 5. Tuna/chicken/salmon pouches (2oz) 6. P3 (processed, but still sometimes necessary) 7. Lunchmeat roll-ups (processed, but still sometimes necessary) 8. Bone broth 9. Leftover meats from previous meals 10. SF Jello 11. SF Popsicles 12. 1 cup of raw veggies or salad with Greek Ranch dressing 13. 1 cup of cooked veg or salad of your choice with minimal calorie dressing 14. hard boiled eggs 15. 1 tbsp nut butter with veggie sticks 16. Iced protein latte or frappacino 17. cold boiled shrimp 18. meat stick/beef jerky (processed but sometimes still necessary) 19. hummus and carrots or raw veggies 20. thinking... I could go on and on...

    snacks

    i know there is a lot of answers through out this forum but i wanted to hear from you guys what you are doing for your snacks. i do a shake for breakfast and lunch and usually chicken or ground turkey for dinner, but in between those meals, ive only really been doing a string cheese here or there. sometimes a yogurt. i just wanted some new and fresh ideas if anyone could offer some suggestions. thanks!

    Yogurt!

    Oikos Triple Zero is my best bet. I mix in a scoop of unflavored protein powder. I ate a lot of yogurt before surgery but find this particular brand works best for me. Too Good works great too..but I find that the texture is β€œoff” for me. You can buy them on singles..which I did at first to see what I liked.

    I really like the triple net zero yogurt. It has 15 grams protein. They have a bunch of different flavors and I like all of them. It is nice to have a change up the flavors. I have a yogurt and a shake daily. That way I know I have my 45 grams of protein. Many times I mix my shake in the nutribullet with ice, my collagen and protein powder , msm and a bit of the PB2 fit powdered peanut butter. That boosts my protein way up. It is hard when you aren’t eating much I try to make the most of my foods with protein. I usually am over 100 with not really trying.
  15. What Smooth low sugar yogurt are you having? Currently on stage 2. Liquid/semi liquid stage My sister bought me these organic yogurt drinks for kids that have 9grams of sugar (lowest she can find) and 5 grams of protein. Tried having 1/2 of one and my new stomach hasn’t reacted to it in any way. I feel fine.
  16. Today I was nervous about starting the purΓ©e food stage. I dumped in the hospital from drinking too fast and I was afraid of trying something besides full liquids. I had 3 Oz of very thin grits for breakfast. I ate slow... I use a baby spoon to eat. For lunch I had a 5 Oz Greek yogurt. Then I had 3 Oz of unsweetened applesauce. I felt kinda hungry an hour later. So I reviewed my eating plan. I forgot to drink my 2 protein shakes for the day. Ooops. So now that I’ve had that. (Only one shake) I feel like I’ve eaten a full course meal on a holiday. Geesh I don’t want anything else.
  17. 4 days post-op and you're already eating refried beans?? Lucky. I'm 9 days post-op and the most solid thing I've eaten is greek yogurt. My program said I can start adding soft solids (scrambled eggs, refried beans, some pureed stuff, thoroughly chewed soft chicken) on day 12 or 13, but I'm going to start tomorrow. The past 2 days I've only consumed like 350 calories because I'm so tired of yogurt!

    How many calories do you eat a day?

    I’m just over one week out and am at just about 500 cal/day. B: 1/2 Dannon Light & Fit yogurt 40 cal 1/2 Premier Protein shake 80 cal L: same as breakfast, 120 cal S: 1/2 Premier Protein shake 80 cal D: 1/2 Premier Protein shake 80 cal 1/2 c tomato soup 75 cal S: Outshine popsicle 25 cal Next week starts the soft food diet, I’ll be very interested to see what I get in when it’s actual bulkier food rather than fluids only, I suspect my cal intake might drop a bit.
  19. 8AM - Peach light and fit greek yogurt 10AM - Chomps Italiano Beef Stick 12PM: Leftover spinach salad with a small bit of chicken, roasted red pepper, pepperjack cheese, and sriracha ranch I'm feeling a bit off today (a little queasy, thanks likely to the MOM I took last night), so probably won't have anything again until after the gym tonight. I do usually have a 2 or 3PM snack and then dinner after the gym.

    So wild! I'm still thinking it's the sugar alcohols though? Maybe the cottage cheese and yogurts use different sweeteners? That's just terrible though. Gah, I hate that feeling!

    That's the weirdest thing. I eat yogurt and cottage cheese daily totally fine. I can have nonfat milk fine. But any whey protein shakes or whey protein snacks cause those dumping symptoms. I don't know if there's something in actual milk products that is soothing and prevents it and when the whey itself is isolated out/concentrated it hurts me but it's been like that since surgery, which is why I could only use soy shakes. No clue. I always get soooooo sweaty and flushed and usually vomit.

    Your doctor doesn't allow thinned down lump free yogurt? It's the same texture as frozen protein ice cream...call and ask.

    If you're the one making it, check out Greek yogurt cream cheese. It's delicious and a lot more protein/less fat.

    Can I dump 2 hours after?

    When I eat fruit I try to eat a little yogurt or 2 pieces of walnut with it so I have protein and fat mixed with the carbs. If I rarely eat fruit by itself it's only 1 strawberry or a 1/4 cup of blueberries.
