    RNY to RNY revision.

    I'm at 266 right now, pre-surgery. I'm optimistic having read your status at 2.5 months. I'm hoping to break 200 after the revision. I haven't seen "onederland" since college. I dare not even dream of a lower target weight. I have done so well pre-surgery that people are asking why I want to go ahead with the revision. I was stalled for 10 weeks and thought I had bottomed out. However, this week I have just dropped a few pounds. I still don't have a surgery date, but that may be due to the rise in COVID cases In my area.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

    Hi everyone - how are you all getting along? I'm day 10 today - got my staples out so totally lost horror/goth status with my family. I am just starting thicker fluids - yoghurt, runny mousse type consistency - and it feels good. I have lost *no weight at all* since I came home on day 2 - hoping this is just some sort of adjustment because I really need to see a loss soon. Managing about 50g protein a day - maybe 60 yesterday. I did suck a tiny lump of cheese yesterday and I've never tasted anything as good. Pain is improving a little every day. I have my 2 week checkup next Wednesday and I hope to go back to work after that. I'm walking 1000 quick steps several times a day now. How is everyone else? Just jogging along?

    I’m on the hunt for some good knee high boots. I got some and I appear to have the same problem: boots are too big in the calves (exact opposite problem I had before 😂. i ordered some new ones off Amazon and I’m returning the other ones. If you need really small ones you can try Clark’s. Their calf opening is 14 inches.. too small for me…. But the 19 inches the other boot I had didn’t work either. I’m in the middle 😭

    Start Pre-Op Diet Early?

    I would say it's fine if you want to get the hang of things and may be want to lose little more weight. My surgery got postponed twice and both times I was on Pre-Op diet unfortunately. First time, I did it for 1 week and second time it was for 10 days. And finally I am yet again on my Pre-Op diet for 10 days with today being day 6. So I would say it's fine as long as you have it in you to keep going. Though I would recommend you enjoy this very last week before you have to take the plunge for 2 weeks straight. It may get difficult then and you may regret not utilizing a week before your Pre-Op diet to indulge in your favorite foods.

    Anyone else terrified?

    It's totally normal to feel that way for a first surgery. I know when I had my first surgery at 24 I was scared of the same thing. The second time I had surgery though I was 29 and I wasn't scared at all (but that was because I was desperate at that point. I had brain surgery due to my Trigeminal Neuralgia and surgery was my last hope to get rid of the unending chronic debilitating pain I'd been in for 10 months non-stop). My WLS was my third and most recent surgery and I was 32 and after going through what I already had with my TN and the brain surgery... I wasn't scared because I pretty much knew what to expect and I figured it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as waking up from brain surgery (my head HURT so bad after the brain surgery and I was in and out of it, mostly out of it, for the first three or four days and sooooo nauseous) so I figured it wasn't anything to worry about, so while I wasn't scared of the surgery itself, I was nervous about if I'd be able to be up and moving around as soon as they wanted me to (I was sore yes, but they were happy that I was up and walking like I was supposed to when I was supposed to and even did more laps then they had asked). So don't feel bad about being scared. It's 100% normal to feel that way! Just try to think about your reasons for doing the surgery in the first place and it may help with your nerves a little bit.
  6. I am 10 days post op, down 22 lbs and doing great---pain gone after 5 days and actually enjoying the diet. Have been really dizzy last few days, was thinking it was dehydration, but dr thinks blood pressure may be dropping and with weigh dropping fast, may be causing issues. Anyone experiencing this?

    GYM AFTER SURGERY? LIFTING WEIGHTS?

    I was made to walk immediately after surgery (within an hour of coming out of the recovery room). For two weeks I was on walking only, but no restrictions as to hills or stairs. At my two-week follow-up visit I was cleared for anything that did not require weights or abdominal tension. So I could run, bike, and jump rope, but I couldn't row or do sit-ups. I was also allowed to go from 10 to 15 pounds weight max which allowed me to use a training barbell for some exercises. At six weeks the restrictions were lifted. I spent 2-3 weeks getting back into things and trying to discover where my strength was (there's some loss but not as bad as I feared), and now at ten weeks am back into it, both manual labor as well as CrossFit.

    11/19 and 0 pain. I feel perfectly fine. I wish I was 7 days in so I could have some mashed potatoes or grits and applesauce lol This clear liquids thing is for the birds.

    Hi everyone I'm new to this so I dont really know what I'm doing ,I would like some advice please ,I had the gastric bypass 8 weeks ago ,I was 23 stone4 pound before surgery and am now 21 10 but for the last 10 days I havnt lost any weight and I am hardly eating is this normal ?

    RNY to RNY revision.

    Wishing you both every success. I know it is easy to get down about a revision not working as well as the original but I dug into a bunch of scientific articles and most say the average person loses 10-15% less than the original weight loss surgery. I know when I had my gastric sleeve in 2012, I lost too much weight so I am hoping my revision to RNY just gets me within10 lbs of goal and helps my acid reflux. II'm having my revision 12/2/21 and keep you both in my thoughts.

    RNY to RNY revision.

    I also will be having RNY revision very soon, but my original RNY was done 30 years ago. Over 10 years I regained all I had lost. Both my pouch and anastomasis stretched. We won't lose as much following revision, but It will get us closer to "normal" BMI. There has been much progress in the technique and protocol since even 2010 so I'm optimistic.

    Hi everyone, im new on here. Wls is something i have thought about for a few years now but not seriously, i always thought eventually I'll do it on my own. I started putting on weight at around 12 years old. I was sexually abused from age 10 too 11. This affected me dramatically and i shut myself off from everything and food was my comfort. I have tried and failed at diets ever since. Iv tried most of the diets going, slimming world more tines than i can count, ww when it was weight watchers, rosemary connelly, cabbage soup diet, calorie counting and not eating for days at a time. Each time i lose some but eventually give up when the weight loss sticks and each time i end up heavier than before. Im now almost 23 stone (317lb) and im 5 foot 8 inches tall. My bmi 48 so im classed as morbidity obese. I wear 24/26 clothes. I have arthritis in my knees, feet and back which makes it difficult to exercise due to the pain and i know losing weight would help me a lot. My parents both have high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels and my mom is type 1 diabetic and has to inject insulin. The last few months i have thought more seriously about wls, i have spoken to the weight management woman at my gp surgery who got my doctor to refer me to bariatrics. I have a blood sugar blood test tomorrow and then i will be referred to hospital. I only spoke the her last week so im shocked im getting referred so quickly. I will be around reading posts and asking questions of you i hope thats ok. What questions should i ask when i get seen? Sent from my SM-A526B using BariatricPal mobile app

    Exercise

    Your surgeon will tell you the answer for this question as it pertains to you. I was up and walking an hour after surgery. I did only walking for two weeks and had a 10-pound weight restriction. At my two-week appointment, I was cleared to do running, jumping rope, and biking and anything that didn't involve my core. I was also allowed to go up to 15 pounds (at my request) so I could use a training bar for barbell work. At my six-week appointment, I was cleared for anything I wanted. I took a few weeks to get back into the swing of things, and now at ten weeks out I am doing nearly everything I did before, but I have noticed some loss of strength (MUH GAINZZZZ). It is coming back relatively quickly as I increase the amount I eat.

    March surgeries

    I am retired. So, I am not in a hurry to eat when I wake. In fact, I wake at 7 am and have 4 cups of weak decaf coffee before I eat breakfast at 10 or 10:30. I have been trying to slow down my weight loss. I am far past my goal and have lost a lot of muscle. So, I eat between 110 and 125 grams of protein and workout in the gym.

    March surgeries

    Wow is that JUST breakfast? 😳 I still can’t eat much volume. For breakfast I might get ONE egg in, but anything other than that is a no go. I usually just grab a cheese stick because I don’t have time in the morning. If I do grab eggs I normally only eat half of one. I had surgery March 24th and just shy of 8 months later I am now 10 pounds from my goal. But I think I am going to readjust…. I think I can lose more. I still have plenty of fat left to lose on my abdominal area. 195 is the top number for a healthy weight for my height. I thought 195 was a realistic goal for me…. But I’ve seen people continue to loose weight a year out and that’s still 4 months away for me. Given that info and the fact that I’m still not up to eating a ton (I JUST hit the 60 grams of protein on a good day. Usually around 50 grams a day) plus the fact that I still have pockets of fat ? I think I’m adjusting lower. oh hey another fun fact: my hunger JUST came back!
  16. Hello Everyone, I am having the gastric sleeve done at 10:30 tomorrow morning. This forum has been a big help as to what to expect after surgery. I am claiming a safe and successful surgery with minimal to no pain and the ability to get liquids down without a problem. Best Wishes to each and everyone of us.

    Need massive help

    Have a nice meal on TG. Do a 10-14 days full liquids only, between TG and Christmas. Protein shakes, soups and water. Have ONE nice (not big, nice) meal on Christmas. Then, get the Baritastic app (or something similar) and count calories. Eat 3 meals a day, no snacking. Stay below 1,400/day. Focus on protein (meat, fish, shrimp, eggs) and mostly raw vegetables (cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, celery, kale, spinach, salads, etc,.) and fruits. Drink 90-120 oz of water a day. Come back here for chats every time you feel like you're stumbling. You should be able to drop 30-40 lbs in less than 3 months. Good luck!

  19. I loss 19 pounds my first 7 days post op 🙌🏽 (Water weight or real weight.. weight is weight to me.. I’ll take it lol) I make sure I keep my water with me 24.7 and I walk every chance I get. I cook dinner for my kids with no problems. I have zero cravings!  By next week I should be in the 200’s. Haven’t been there since high school 🥲

    Am I really going to live on 1000 calories?

    I’m 6’4” and my highest known weight was 356 (but likely higher as I didn’t weigh often). Like you I was pretty active and my daily calorie count was high. I never counted (still don’t) but an honest assessment of my past puts me around 4-6000 calories a day! I would eat huge meals. Despite that insane guess, I put weight on slowly over the years, averaging 4lbs a year… it’s not a fair estimate because some years I would lose 30 then put 40 on etc. but overall average of 4lbs since I turned 18 (I was 45 when I had surgery). Fast forward 18 months post op and I’m not able to enter maintenance. I’m trying so hard to not lose more weight. I set a goal of 240, blew past that then thought “ok 220 would be good” and blew past that. I’m down to 182 now, my wife and mom (they never stop being moms do they?) are worried - and have been since I broke below 200 in April. Anyway, for the first six months I survived on about 500cal a day. I should say thrived. I had zero problems with that low of a calorie count. I was more active than ever, still am. I feel healthier than I was when I was 16, seriously. The hard part for me was remembering to eat. The day would go by and I would realize I only had my protein shake in the morning. I’m still not hungry, and I know I’m in the minority for going this long without feeling any hunger. I literally eat 1000 calories of peanut m&ms a day. Literally. And I’m still losing. I know it’s probably the least healthy thing I could eat but they are small and pocketable and I like them enough where I don’t get bored of them. I simply don’t have the capacity to eat enough “healthy” meals to make up the difference. I do get regular blood work done and everything is perfectly in the middle of where it should be, vitamin levels are good as well. I’d say I’m close to maintaining, I’ve been between 190 and 182 for about six months but it’s still trending ever so slightly down. I guess what all this rambling is getting at is this: you sound a lot like me. If you are the type of person that can drop weight fast on a diet you’re likely to be wildly successful with the weight loss portion of this endeavor. Everything else is up in the air and seems to be variable for everyone. For me I have had no complications, no foods bother me, nothing tastes different (I hoped it would but it didn’t), I can and do eat whatever I want, but my restriction is so good (and it does feel good) that it still takes me two days to eat a burger, or four days to eat a chipotle burrito (and I don’t even finish it). I don’t have a problem being around food or seeing people eat. My whole relationship with food is completely different. I see it as an inconvenience, but I still enjoy good food and I seek out new and exotic things for fun, I just know I’m taking home 90% of what I order most of the time. My only complaint is my wife and mom think I’m too skinny, which is just an opinion, my doctors are thrilled with my weight and all associated / tested statistics, and as I said I feel absolutely amazing. I feel like I have another 10-15lbs to lose but I’m riding the struggle bus to keep that from happening for the benefit of others. 5000 calories? I’m disgusted with that person. 1500 - 2000 a day give or take is plenty 18 months out and I had nooo problem living on half that for the first year. This was - by far - the best money I’ve ever spent on myself. I’ve easily saved more than my surgery cost ($4400 in Mexico) and I have only great things to say about every aspect of it. I wish it was this easy for everyone. My wife had it done too but she has lost nothing at this point. She eats less than I do, but she never lost when dieting before so we should have known a smaller stomach wouldn’t have helped. I don’t think she needs to lose weight anyway, she’s perfect. But my opinion doesn’t count in her mind :) she has some underlying heath issues we’re working through which we believe contributes to her crazy slow metabolic rate. So I see and live with both sides of how surgery works and doesn’t work for some (if you’re a slow “loser” reading this and you’re on plan and doing everything you should, I BELIEVE YOU, even though everyone assumes you’re not on plan. I know how hard it is for you, and I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Don’t give up, find a doctor that listens to you and believes you too and start looking for why, and stop going to doctors that don’t listen. Don’t let them give you self doubts (end tangent)).     @Octalmist37 - I can COMPLETELY relate to the mind set part. I'm only a year out, but regain is a HUGE fear as I've progressed through this adventure. My thoughts - be brutally honest with yourself and do whatever motivates YOU to get back on track. For me, it's shame - I HAVE to weigh myself daily. Otherwise I tend to play mind games on myself (my clothes still fit, so I must be fine, right?) - Yeah, **** stretches! Another thing I tried (that really did NOT work) was to "allow" myself 5 lbs gain - Nope, too easy to let those 5 become 10. So, my advice for you is really to just suck it up, realized you screwed up, and get back to basics - One day at a time. If you screw up one day, just start over the next. Don't let it turn into a bender.

    Surgery nerves

    I was very afraid too. The time went fast and the next thing I knew it was surgery day. The first 48 hours were the toughest. Just remember to walk as much as you can. I did 10 minute walks every hour during the day. I think it helped to get my stomach settled. The first sips were yucky. Room temp crystal light is what tasted best to me. Hang in there, you’ll do fine!
