  1. I had my revision in January 2013. I have gained 10 pounds since then. I feel like I can eat a lot. In the beginning I couldn't tolerate anything but now I feel like I am always hungry and can eat a lot. I'm confused about wether you can stretch your sleeve out or not. If so could I have done it in this short of time? How do you know if its stretched? I have a hard time knowing when I am actually full because it doesn't feel the same as with sleeve and I get over full easy. I exercise daily so it is totally a nutrition issue. I am hungry constantly and food is consuming my thoughts. I'm so mad for gaining ten pounds but I literally am thinking about food all day. I have also introduced foods back into my diet that I couldn't eat with the band (carbs). I was at goal weight when I had my revision. I just can't seem to stay full all day on limited calories. Anyone else have this problem? Suggestion?

    New here

Welcome. I had a sleeve in 2013 and a revision to Modified DS in 2020. I hope your recover is smooth.
  3. How are you doing now? I am scheduled for a revision due to a slipped band next month and I'm worried! I've lost of my weight now, about 20 pounds to go but want to lose the next 20 and stay there. Thanks for letting me know!
  4. So, I went ahead and had the revision. It was fully covered by my insurance (I was concerned because I have lost all my excess weight) and am very pleased. The "tummy tumor" ridiculous bump is completely gone and despite prodding I cant find the low profile port even though I know its there! I have one incision that went through the old scar. Love it! The surgery was still rough and the pain was similar to getting the band initially but I'd do it again in a second!

    Acidic throat?

Wow - that's a big decision. Would you consider revising to something else (I'm hearing good things about the sleeve), or just nothing at all? Well...I hope you get the result that would make you happiest.

    ❄DEC 2019 CHALLENGE❄

My blinds are open when I wake up but it is 400 in the morning so there is nothing to see. The sunshine won't be around for three hours. Luckily the windows of my job site open on the east and we see the sunrise every morning. 1. My personal goal is to get down to 150 and stay there. 2. I am having RNY to SADI revision. I am pre op. My operation is on Wednesday the 5th. 3. my weight is 246 Lbs. 4. My favorite winter activity is piling on the blankets or standing in front of the heater with a kitty cat by my side.
  7. @@JamieLogical I have a prescription for the heartburn. @@downsizingdiva I am on nausea meds as well. I am at the point where I am tired, I had the lapband originally and I had to have a revision to the sleeve and I am in suffer mode

Episode 4 of "As the Band Turns"

Good luck to you. I truly believe in karma, and there was surely a reason for you not to have the revision yesterday. And way to go with the weight loss.
  9. I'm sorry for the late reply. I had my band since April 2010, the surgery took 3.5 hours, he said mine was the longest and most complex revision. However, he says I still got a beautiful sleeve. Lol

Met with surgeon, I just don't know...

Hi and welcome. I know it is scary to read the negative, but there are so many positives! I have knee issues, a torn meniscus to be exact. I have lost almost 100 pounds since I started this journey and now rarely have pain in my knee, to the point that I do not need the surgery. My numbers on my blood work are great, I have energy and over all just feel better. Are there times its a pain to eat a certain way, yes. Could I need a revision for an issue later, yes. Do I have to take fiber religiously, yes... But then I remember all the positives I mentioned above and its not an issue anymore. If you think there's no other choice, and this is needed, do it. It's been life changing in all the best ways possible. I would do it again in a heart beat.

    Surgiversary!

I had my revision one year ago today. I’m shocked and amazed at the changes that have occurred this year. My boobs have disappeared, I lost a lot of hair... but more importantly I’m no longer overweight. I still have a belly (and lose skin) but I’m learning to love myself just as I am. I’m so thankful to be on this road. Now I just need to get my butt back in the gym, good news is that it is within walking distance now. No regrets. ❤️
  12. Yes I would like a refund for my lapband now that it is no longer working, the money would be useful to help pay for my revision
  13. Hi everyone, I haven't been on here in sooooo very long but recently I found out that my band has slipped and i have to go back in to have it corrected on 1/28. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect. My Dr says it's basically the same procedure all over again, same surgery minus the port scar, same diet but she couldn't tell me about continued weight loss. I'm just wondering if anyone has continued to loose after revision surgery. I was banded on 12/21/06 and at my best had lost 80lbs but have since gained back about 15 due to poor eating habits due to the slippage. Any insight as to what I could expect would be greatly appreciated. I am alittle apprehensive about this surgery but I know it needs to be done. Thanks in advance
  14. I think the sleeve is a great option for anyone who for one reason or another (erosion etc) has to have their band removed, I also know some people who have had a revision to a sleeve because they never could find the right fill and restriction with the band. They were constantly having to go in for a fill and then and unfill. __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com

    Not my first rodeo

Been there done that, got the tshirt....only I was never that successful with the band and started having issues around year 2-3 timeframe. Revised to sleeve 4 years ago, lost 150# been maintaining that for last 3 years.

    band to sleeve

Band to sleeve revisions in one surgery are quite common and very successful. Trust your surgeons final decision .. They know what's best for the patient. If by chance they decide not to do your sleeve it's for a very good reason... Your safety.

Band food compared to sleeve food

I had my revision September 2012 and it was absolutely the best thing I could have done. Make your own decisions and don't base it on negative comments you read here. It was a very positive life changing surgery for me and I would do it 1000% times over.

Band food compared to sleeve food

Your right Sleeve master......there are a few negative comments which doesnt help when you are trying your best to do the right thing. Its not like you can undo it if you make the wrong choice. I was hoping to compare the 2 with people who have had the band before or know of people who have had the band before to see what it will be like with the sleeve. I trust my surgeon and he says it is the best thing for me so I do believe that. I have struggled with the band and its problems for 4 years and also never feeling satisfied with what I was eating (or very rarely was i satisfied) I was told that by removing the hormone that creates the hunger sensation it will make it a lot easier for me which I am looking forward to. If anyone thinks that I think that I am taking the easy way out then they dont know what I have been through....in and out of hospital for constant revisions not to mention the discomfort with the band. I know I can't live with the band but I know I can't live without some form of restriction......that was proven when they let my band out for 6 months and I gained a stack of weight as my hunger was out of control. The more I research the more I know that I have to get the sleeve.....I just want to know what to expect when I have it done. I didn't know about all the things getting stuck etc before I got the band (something I wish I had have known before hand) and also how hard it would be to eat a good variety of foods and healthy foods. I hope the sleeve is different, I just don't know anyone with the sleeve that I can ask about it. Junior Guru that is what I hope will happen with me Garliegirl my surgeon told me that they will keep me is hospital for 5 days and if a leak was to happen it would happen in the first few days and they would be monitoring me closely to fix the problem IF it happened......he also said if it doesn't leak at the start it will NEVER leak. That put my mind at rest. He also said that they trialed doing band to sleeve revision surgery in one operation for 6 months and they have decided that it is more successful and less complications letting the stomach heal in between taking the band out and then doing the sleeve. I have also heard from people that it can be more successful but every surgeon has different ideas so its best to check with yours. I have been very happy with the group that I go through even with all of my problems with my body rejecting the foreign body of the band The other thing that i loved the sound of is that there is no dumping syndrome as there is with bypass......I love the sound of the sleeve and not to have this stupid port in me anymore. Its under my bra line (as they were running out of new places to put each new port) and so uncomfortable!!!!
  19. I completely agree with slikchick10! I'm 5.5 weeks out from a revision and it's so much better. You truly feel full and I've only had the "slimes" twice because I didn't chew well enough. It is so weird to eat foods that used to get stuck like eggs. Your think it's gonna come back up but it doesn't LOL. I think it is worth it. Good luck with your decision.

The Third Band was the Charm!

So I was waiting to be banded for several weeks. Mind you the last time I was in the hospital as a patient was the day I was born! I have never had a stitch or broken bone or ER visit, so being banded was a huge decision for me. I was banded on 04/29 and to my dismay, I was complete closed and nothing was passing through the band. They removed whatever little saline was in the band and still nothing. So after vomiting most of the day into the night, on 04/30 I went back into surgery for a revision. Of course since I was vomiting so violently the band and my stomach was completely twisted. Surgery was done, and during surgery a tube from my nose to my stomach was inserted to prevent vomiting. I went for the GI and had a trickle flowing through the band. I spent the night and was released Saturday at noon. Having the tube in my nose was the worst experience in my life! The rest of the day at home was uneventful, drank what i was suppose to, went to bed and woke up at 1:30 am vomiting. Wasn't really concerned since it was once and I felt OK. 6:30 am vomited again violently and called to Dr. who said to meet him at the ER. Went to the ER on Sunday morning, went for a GI and found that I had no flow at all. :cursing: They wanted a tube reinserted from my stomach to my nose to prevent further vomiting. The ER Nurse who tired to put it in didn't know what the heck she was doing since the tube starting coming out of my mouth. And of course she than realizes, oops, I used a tube that was to large. :cursing:She pulls it out after I am screaming like a lunatic on crack! :angry:At that point I am covered in blood from my nose and screaming at the nurse. Thankfully another nurse came and inserted the tube and I was sedated. I spend the rest of Sunday in the hospital with the tube in my nose and me being the worst patient any nurse could dream of. I was so miserable I was about to tell the Dr. to take the band out, I was done! Monday came and back into surgery I went! So within 4 days I was operated on 3 times! Came out of surgery and the GI showed I was Free Flowing! I was so happy and excited. The tube was removed which made a happy camper and the best patient ever! LOL. I spend the night Monday to Tuesday, went for another GI and everything was perfect. The Dr. said he would discharge me whenever I wanted. So for my own sanity, I spent Tuesday to Wednesday in the hospital. Woke up the next morning still flowing, no issues! Went home Wednesday afternoon and have been doing great so far. Already lost lbs! But what a way to lose it!:cursing:
  21. I had an issue, which I've written about here, that the tubing of my port was sticking out of my stomach in an extreme fashion, so I had to have an additional procedure done to fix that. After the second procedure, which was 16 days ago, I started having very strong pain at the port site, which I didn't have after my initial lap band surgery. It's not a steady constant pain, but it hurts badly when I touch it or something bumps into it, lay in bed on my stomach or my right side, and when I make certain movements like bending etc. The pain is very strong and stinging, and it's unlike anything I've experienced after my first surgery. I can only sleep on my left side, otherwise the pain is unbearable. It hasn't gotten any better in the last two weeks, it's been the same level pain since the procedure. I saw my surgeon today, and he said that the pain isn't something out of the ordinary, and since he has had to reposition the port and had to resurture the port to the abdominal wall, and he claims he made it tighter this time so the tubing wouldn't come out of place again, he claims that as far as the port site is concerned, it's as if I've had lap band surgery all over again and the pain is normal. But I'm very skeptical of him, and I have had too many issues already since surgery. So my question is, if it's normal to experience sharp pains at the port site for a prolonged period of time after surgery? And is it normal to go a few weeks without any reduction in said pain?

    Anthem BCBS Missouri req's?

I was glad to find this thread. I've been wondering about this too. My doctor's office called Anthem the first part of January and they were told there is no requirement for a 6-month regimen. I called a few days ago and was told the same thing. Afterwards I stumbled across this policy revision on the Internet, and now I'm worried I will have to wait 6 more months for surgery. I have asked my surgeon's office to contact Anthem again about this. Will post again once I hear something back.
  23. I had revision surgery last Monday. I don't care about food but enjoy looking at it when others eat it because I feel like I have power over it! It's just food! I told my sister that I wanted to poke my husbands sausage biscuit with a stick and tease it like a possum : )

    Jenny Craig

But Jenny Craig's food is atrocious. Our ability to eat is quite limited by the band. That doesn't mean it should become an unpleasant experience. As a longtime WW veteran, I am hard-pressed to see the compatibility with the band. Not that their recommendations are off-base; they'd just require enormous revision to meet the needs of a person with restriction. (Some leaders are really hostile toward those who've had WLS, too.) For someone who does not already have a good idea of how to eat properly---with or without the band---WW would be really hard to self-tailor for banded purposes, IMO. If Jenny Craig personnel have training, that might be a good approach. Well, if the food weren't so gross.

    weight watchers anyone?

Overeaters Anonymous. After my revision and I'm all settled in with it and eating solids regulary I do plan to use this as another tool toward figuring out whats eating me, instead of what I'm eating. Once this weight is gone, I want it to stay gone forever. One thing I've learned with my current WLS is, never thing this weight will be gone forever simply because you have WLS. It can and it *WILL* come back if you continue to over eat and eat emotionally. Good luck to you! WW is a wonderful third tool option for Weight loss, but I for myself, I'm going to work on my issues from the inside out. I believe it will help me the most.
