    Snacks and Work Lunch Ideas

I'm one month post op and right now for my lunch/snack I take things like boiled eggs (sometimes I throw away the yolk), egg salad, chicken salad, string cheese, cheese cubes, yogurt, pepperoni slices, and quest protein bars. I have access to a microwave/fridge, but right now I use a lunch bag and containers that both have ice packs. This might be something you can look at getting since you don't always have access to the fridge. And as you can see, I don't take anything that needs microwaving. Hope this gives you some ideas

    How long?

I still eat too fast! Tiny spoon, tiny bowl and I still eat way too fast so it reduces the volume I can ultimately consume-which is my tough luck! I try to cut my food small abd eat with a baby spoon/fork so that helps but some habbits are hard to break. I try to take 15 mins. for a meal, which is about 1/3-1/4 cup -4 oz.-6oz. Solid food, 1:2 cup soft (yogurt).
  3. To be honest, I can eat anything if I really take my time, chew well and take small bites. I have problems with scrambled eggs for some reason and of course bread and Pasta can cause a problem. But when I really need my spagetti fix... if I eat slow enough and really take my time I don't have a problem. I can even throw in garlic bread. However... it just takes one bite too big or one bite to many and it's all over. And because of the calorie content I try to stay away from it for the most part. I have not found a meat that I have problems with. I know a lot fo people have trouble with chicken. And on any given day... even yogurt can cause a problem! CrAzY!
  4. I was also banded on 12/22/08 and am not really hungry. My brain says I am hungry but my stomach does not. Yesterday all I could eat was 3-4 oz of nonfat mocha, about 5 oz of liquid re-fried beans and a frozen gogurt (the kids to go yogurt). I am forcing myself to eat. I am worried I won't lose weight because my body will think I am starving. Although, I am down already 6.6 lbs since Monday.
  5. way to go deco!! i noticed the exact same thing. Seemed like my first 12lb loss was ALL from my poor ankles. amazing how swollen feet and ankles can make you feel all over. i've had severe problems with swelling since i had a deep vein thrombosis in 2000. it was a nightmare and has since become nearly non-existent with the weight-loss! it sounds like you're doing better and i'm real glad to hear it. soon you'll be able to do some puddings, yogurt, etc with the full liquids or mushy stage! let us know how it's going! congrats on such a good loss already! Jamie...I've given up on breakfast and I usually eat a pretty soft lunch. Usually by dinner I'm fine. Protein shakes...protein powder, yogurt, fresh fruit...are a great breakfast. You get used to it. By the way....isn't it March? Shouldn't we have a new thread? LOL!

    I wish I would've known that before

A lot of us use straws with no problem. Right after surgery I found it easier to take small sips with a straw. I just don't take a big suck down. As far as what I wished I had known, there's nothing, really. Except I'm 6 weeks out and still am limited to 1/4 cup of any solid. So I still rely on Protein shakes for most of my diet, with occasional yogurt and cottage cheese. Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Breakfast question

I'm about 6 months post-op. I don't eat waffles or pancakes (not a big sacrifice for me) and greatly limit bread, but have occasionally had 1 slice of light (40 cal) wheat toast with poached egg. However, I often add a very small amount of granola to my greek yogurt and fruit for breakfast, mostly for the crunch. I also occasionally have a 1/4 cup of steel cut oatmeal with some skim milk or kefir in it. I do try to avoid those kinds of carbs but if I give it to myself once in awhile in a small amount, I don't crave it.

    First few weeks? Failure?

Try not to eat the puddings . Maybe some Greek yogurt an a spoon full of ur protein powder to flavor it. Like everyone said a loss is a loss. Chin up its to early to be upset.
  10. Hi. I hate this question so please don't yell at be about everyone is different. I want to do well! I have surgery may 31st, lost 10 lbs quick (the water), and pretty much nothing for 8 days. It should be too erly to plateau (after 1 week of loss nothing for week 2) I'm eating about 800-900 calories on soft foods, mostly from Greek yogurt and sf pudding. I'm getting about 80-90g of Protein and walking 30 min per day (port and hernia repair still hurt or I'd do more). Advice?? I tried to cut out sugar except what's in the milk products.
  11. What about regular plain yogurt with a bit of splenda/stevia/vanilla/honey? Goat cheese? (Not sure what is allowed as I'm several month prior to surgery, but I like food). Refried beans with cheese? I hit a wall with protein drinks this morning and I'm not a fan of eggs so I'm trying to find ideas for protein heavy breakfasts now, and I get it that trying to get yourself to eat something YOU JUST DON'T LIKE is not going to work!
  12. Yogurt or eggs. Not much for protein drinks.
  13. I'm just on the 3rd week post op but I'll tell you about the change after the surgery. I have no longer hunger but I know I MUST eat for energy and the amount of food that I can eat is 2 tablespoons. I have sleeved in France so the restriction post-op for diet is a bit different, my doctor said I can eat anything I want but blended. The first two weeks it has to be only Fluid (but I can eat yogurt) then the 3rd week I can start eating pureed food like potato smashed. Oh, yes, but no candies no soda, all sweet stuff. Eat a little at a time (4 times a day) on the fix hour, I'm not hungry but I just eat on the meal time. Eat very small amount and slowly and the most important thing is at least 1 L of Water everyday 20 minutes before and after the meal. After the research I'd done on my own, like you, I asked him about Protein shake and he said, no need, no supplementary diet of any kind is necessary at the moment. He told me to eat only small amount of natural food. Seems like he needs me to get used to my new stomach first and learn that I can live on a very small amount of food Personally I try to eat as much as protein as possible like eggs, purred fish, Greek yogurt with purred fruits, cooked brocoli purred, mainly protein, fruits and vegetable. One time I tried Pasta purred with salmon and I felt sick, so no pasta at the moment. My doctor said I have 3 years post-op to learn to eat right to maintain the weight for life. I guess that at some point the hunger will return, I will be able to eat more than 2 spoons per meal but at least the experience of being obese for 20 years and receiving the second chance should remind me to pick the best choice of food and move my (hopefully smaller) ass to exercise to keep this gift for life. And I know I can do it because during the pre-op I tried the low carb diet to see if I can make it after the surgery (my surgeon never asked me to lose weight before the surgery) and it worked pretty well actually, I wasn't really too strict because I ate small amont of carb only for lunch or Breakfast but not for dinner and I lost 13 lbs in 2 months before the surgery between my first consultation with my surgeon and the date of operation. What's different is I've lost almost 19 lbs in 20 days post-op woo hoo!
  14. Chobani Yogurt and protein shakes. Oatmeal and farina work great as well but there isn't much protein in those foods but you can always add protein. Sometimes I will have some canned salmon with farina...Tastes great.

    sooooo sick of soup.

Are you on "Full Liquid" or clear? For me, on full liquids I could have sugar free/fat free pudding/ thinned cream of wheat, plain yogurt. Are you also having shakes?
  16. aquarius1234

    Breakfast ideas.

I eat Greek yogurt with granola every morning.

    Survery Says...

Well I guess I can try to remember the stats to answer your questions. 1. How long was your 'clear' liquid stage? 1 week 2. How long was your liquid stage? 2 weeks 3. How long was your 'smooth/mushy' stage? about 2 months though I stuck with soft foods till about 6 months because I couldn't eat (i.e. tolerate) anything fresh till then. 4. How soon did you transition to 'regular/normal eating? If you ask my friend and relative, I have not transitioned to "normal eating" because I eat so little at a meal. Not sure I will ever eat the way I did before getting sleeved. If your questions is when I transitioned to "normal food" I would say I have been eating "normal food" since the beginning, just choosing foods that met consistency requirements for the stage. What I mean is that I never choose to eat baby food (some NUTS recommended this for the first soft foods but I could never get past the idea so I choose foods like yogurt, eggs, cheese and tofu) 5. What was your SW? Just as it states on my stats 265. 6. How much had you lost at 1 month? 25 lbs 7. How much had you lost at 3 months? 49 lbs 8. What was your total loss at 6 months (using SW)? 70 lbs Hope the answers here help you in your Quest.
  18. Whew! First day back at work! Kinda pooped already LOL its been 11 days since surgery and I am down 20lbs. (24lbs. including pre-op). Its been really hard getting in all my Protein because nothing seems to sit right, and I have tried A LOT of different things. What will really make me happy is when I can finally go to real food. I was started on full liquids in the hospital (yogurt, pudding, oatmeal, cream of wheat, cream based Soups (strained) and stuff like that). Thursday I should be able to start mushies, I am so excited! LOL What I am really curious about is when do mushies end..and solid foods start? I have a transition class in April. I am suppose to go to the March (once a month) but I unfortunately have to work. Im just curious how each of you past the mushie phase has progressed. I have had a really fast and fortunate recovery because I have had absolutely no problems (Thank you baby Jesus). I have no hunger, I just want to be healthy.
  19. Hey everyone. I was sleeved on 3/19 and I am having problems with purees. I am able to get the protein shakes down but it takes a whole however cottage cheese yogurt tuna chicken salad and most approved purees are making me gag n not sitting wth me well. Also I have a really heightened sense of smell and alot makes me gag. I feel ok but I lose energy fast bc of the lack of protein. Also I get shaky sometimes. Is anyone else experiencing this? Will this pass?

    Yum!

You could toss in a coupl'a scoops of ice cream. Seriously though, some have suggested adding it to your coffee or yogurt or even Peanut Butter.
  21. Isn't that odd I had 2 weeks of liquids only. I was not allowed yogurt or cottage cheese until week 4. I find even now 17 weeks post op there are many times I can't even finish 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or a cup of yogurt.

    Why did I do this?

My surgery was December 2nd. I should have been out on Thursday the 4th. My bowels would not wake up...I could not pass gas. I walked my rear off. I fought hard too. Friday the 5th I decided enough is enough and would walk til I could not go anymore, take a short break and walk again. Still no gas coming out. By 430 I was having projectile vomit, my IV wouldn't support a drip and I was so dehydrated they couldn't get any others to go....after and this # is accurate I counted 24 sticks from various people a guy came in and got one on the first try in my foot! It worked. So from 430pm to 12am I was being stuck. Finally exhausted I crashed. The next morning I was slowly passing gas. I was discharged Sunday about 430pm. Had my first post op today. I told them I felt like I just opened my front door to publishers clearning house and they had a check for the rest of my life back along with all the other hoopla. I can tell you I cried several times while in the hospital...said to mulitiple nurses I can't believe I did this to myself. But each of them encouraged me to believe it would get better. I have a full 4 weeks of soft foods, nothing thicker than greek yogurt. When we checked out my hubby under my encouragement went to a Wendy's got himself a burger with cheese meal...the smell doesn't bother me. Just me for now I know there will be challenges but being this overweight has taken away so many options for my life! I feel like I am empowered to take them back!

  24. So gutted got told yesterday my surgery was moved from today 16th December to 17th. Yes only moved by 1 day but I've syked myself up, I'd packed up my car and was just finishing work to drive up. Instead I've wasted a day of my annual leave and am on milk and yogurts for another day. Am so upset and so annoyed. I know it's only 1 day but it makes all the difference. I'd arranged for my mum to take me, she had taken the day off. Now she can't come with me and I have to travel alone a nervous wreck. Was supposed to be called back by my surgeon to explain but nothing. Will call again at 9am and hope I can have it today.
