Constipation
SkinnyMingo1408 replied to Watchjulshrink's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have an issue with constipation. I take 2 colace in the morning and 1 at night and after talking to my team about it last week I've added fiber gummies with some success. I was going 1-2 weeks with no bm and then pooping what felt like solid boulders(I know TMI!!!) Pushing to the point of almost passing out. I eat food, healthier food but food. Definitely no longer on the liquid stage. Thing should be at least every other day. Hoping the new gummies will help. Sent from my SM-F926U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I had my bypass on Monday and barely leaving the hospital now.. too much nausea as all can do is burp and walk. No bowel movement, which is ok, considering I haven’t eaten in 4 days. Going to try milk of Mag, although honestly it’s too hard to even reach and wipe.. sorry TMI but truth.

Hello. I am having a more difficult time than I anticipated. Honestly I think it's more the nausea from the pain med so I have eased back. I get gassy and the burps really hurt coming up. Sorry tmi. My nurse has been amazing so that helps. Going to try to sleep without the pain meds and see how I feel when I wake up. I can't believe this day actually came!

2 Week Pre Op Liquid Diet
mitchjoann132010 replied to mitchjoann132010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bone broth sounds really good, I will have to give it a try. So an update: Day 9 of only clear liquids (protein shakes, water, powerade zero, sugar free popsicles and jello) I am taking all of my vitamins and drinking at least 60g of protein daily while consuming at least 64 oz of fluids a day. I'm not sure if it's because of "that particular week" sorry, TMI, but I am feeling weak and dizzy. I'm not even hungry so much. Sometimes I feel I could eat an entire tub of cottage cheese, mushrooms, olives, etc. (Note: I HATE ALL THAT STUFF) but I'd be willing to eat it. But it's not so much the hunger like I said. It mostly comes and goes and is mostly head hunger whenever I see something pop up on screen. Okay, some of it is actual hunger. But I have no clue why I am so dizzy and weak. If I am taking all my vitamins, protein, and water, why am I still so weak? -
WHAT TO TAKE FOR THE FLU
SeriouslyChange replied to SeriouslyChange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I went from feverish to okay in 2 days, but now it's a stomach thing. TMI: I've been constipated since post op day 1. I've gone more times now(yesterday) than I have in the past 2 weeks. And I'm nauseous. But I'm not eating. What the hell is this? -
StephC's PS journey/I got approved!!
Kat817 replied to StephC's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Becky-they refer to it as a mons lift, they are going to do some mild lipo, and lift the skin to make it taut again. He said mine should be pretty easy, as there is not an issue with a pubic hairline----I guess it was a side benefit of chemo that someone besides DH gets to appreciate---sorry TMI I know, but it made me laugh!!! Steph you already look great, you are going to be one of the TT poster children!!! Mine is ungodly, and MUCH MUCH MUCH worse!!!! I am in a size 14 easy--will likely make a 10 when it is said and done, because they fit, they just won't button around the middle. Not sure I could ever post it---but will take them, then decide!! If I looked like you, I could do it without issue, unfortunately I do not!!! Well, I have things started to cook out, guess I better get busy--see you girls tomorrow! Kat -
Seduction And Pain
tmorgan813 commented on tmorgan813's blog entry in A funny thing happend while I was loosing weight
@Vicki...the first time my husband and I were together he went to "finish" on my tummy but it flew past my head and hit the wall. Apparently it had been a LONG time for him. The next day I called my best friend and told her I would never see him again becasue he tried to "finish" on my face....and it was the FIRST TIME...WHO DOES THAT!!! He and I still laugh at the situation now...I wasn't laughing then but apparently he was mortified. LOL Sorry if that's TMI I tried to keep it as PG13 as possible. -
Gastric Bypass vs. Gastric Sleeve
Cape Crooner replied to Armygalbonnie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a huge difference in what doctors recommend. My surgeon was a top European specialist who trains many American docs. Did y'all realize there are many US docs who fly to Europe for bypass procedure training? He also spends one week per month in the Middle East, doing surgeries for the wealthy there. He commented to me that all his Middle Eastern patients want the sleeve and he tries to talk them out of it for a number of reasons (I wasn't paying a lot of attention to them because I never considered the sleeve). In my case, and there are multiple general ways of performing RNY surgery, I essentially have a sleeve but the bulk of my stomach is sutured closed and food passes through a small sleeve. You say you love the simplicity of the sleeve but in most cases the RNY is more simple. As for your question about why someone would have this reversed, there are multiple reasons. My neighbor had been obese for years and after a broken bone and hospitalization suddenly developed malabsorbtion syndrome in which food just passed through him without being absorbed. In short order he became scarily malnourished and emaciated. I have known folks with cancer who have also gone through serious weight loss, and a couple of people I know were told by their docs at the time of diagnosis to gain weight and stop trying to take it off. These were people who were already obese. I have the RNY, my stomach is just smaller than it was before, and my doc said drinking is fine. Only 6 weeks out and I've been indulging in a couple of drinks per week for 3 weeks now. It is inaccurate to generalize that RNY patients can't drink. Yes, I have a lot of dumping 6 weeks out, but I think my situation is unique. First, since I am a 'low BMI' patient, my surgeon removed almost no intestine, less than 2 inches. There is likely no correlation between the amount of intestine removed and dumping in my case. For years I had bad stomach pain, at times so awful that I was incapacitated. After 3 years of trying to find a solution I found an expert who solved my problem. In short, the source of my pain was that my intestines are sluggish and don't work well, and my stomach was contracting harder and harder to push food through, I suspect that my frequent dumping is caused by my stomach still contracting super hard - it's been doing that for years so I doubt it will change very quickly. Also (apologies if this is TMI), for years I had pellet BMs and frequent constipation, and suddenly post surgery my BMs are soft and normal. I am so happy about that and about not having to daily think about pills or supplements. There is no single 'best surgery' or guaranteed avoidance of particular issues which should make the selection of surgery simple or generic. Do good research of RECENT studies. Look for a doc who does a LOT of GBs and listen to his/her advice. I didn't generalize, I simply reported what my surgeon told us. I did leave out one other issue with RNY (as reported by my surgeon) and that's "dead stomach syndrome". Once the top of the stomach I'd severed from the esophagus, it is no longer possible to view it by placing a camera tube down the throat. Apparently, this can lead to issues. -
Does anyone's goal weight still leave them "overweight" or "obese"?
jane13 replied to provenzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@provenzee - My normal BMI would have me at 163, I am 175. At 53, I am not looking forward to anymore skin dragging behind me, or flopping (TMI) in front of me. I am working towards the 160s, at 5'7+ I just saw my doctor at my 1 year and he didn't question my current weight just said "Wow!" - I will take that as a "atta girl". -
How long has it been? Are you getting plenty of walking in to make things move around? If it goes past 7 days, I'd call your surgeon or head the emergency room. If you are impacted it can affect your organs. Check out this thread from last week: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/tmi-alert-constipation-110478/

Hi I recently had the gastric sleeve on December 11, 2013. I now have a yeast infection from H**!! Has anyone experienced this. I tried the monistat 1 day treatment but it doesn't seem to be working. I hate to be TMI but I want to know if anyone else is experiencing or has experienced this right after surgery. :-(

Hey Sherry & Trish!!!!! Guess what! I EXERCISED!!!! LOL!!! Seriously though, I tried to get started with you gals, then I fell off the wagon (exercise wagon----tee hee)...and so far I've been doing the wii fit (at least 30 min mostly alternating yoga & strength training). Then the other day I started trying to walk the neighborhood a bit, the day after that (yesterday) I did a mile and a 16th (yeah, I count the 1/16th!!!! ha ha ha). I hafta do something! I have a carribean vacation end of March and my son's wedding mid-May....and right now I'm just a hunk of fatty dimples  yeah, I know, TMI!!! lol!!! -
It's pretty common to fluctuate in weight as aggravating as it is. I don't know what your eating but I know when I was doing a low carb diet before surgery it seemed to be high in sodium which will cause fluid retention. Also low carb diets have a tendency to cause constipation maybe thats a issue? I know TMI but if it is try drinking some "smooth move" tea to keep everything moving along. Keep tracking everything and make sure you really read those lables. There's so much hidden sugar in everything. Try to cook your own food fresh so you can season and know what's actually in the food. If your already doing all this than just you never mind me:) good luck!@@Scarlett72

This is just my personal experience with a slip: Last year, I started having severe nightime reflux - so bad I'd wake up with brown gunk (sorry if it's tmi) on my pillow. Went to my primary care and he gave me Prilosec. Finally after being miserable for 4 mths (was afraid band dr would unfill me), I had an xray - I had a slight slip. He did partially unfill me. nIn the last year, I gained about 30 lbs. 2 mths ago, I started having severe abdominal pain for 4 days. At midnight, I could't take it anymore and went to the ER. After a ct, I was diagnosed with a herniated band - wasn't just a slip anymore. My band had totally made it's way down my stomach till my stomach was protruding over it. They totally unfilled me and told me I'd need a revision. Awaiting a sleeve revision now. So, I think for a slip, you'd have more symptoms than just not being able to keep something down. But, I've heard of some people with no symptoms at all, just ability to eat more. If you don't have relief by say Monday, I'd give your dr a call. Just in case. Good luck! Marci

So more TMI - when do you know if you have an impaction and/or should call the dr? This has been a very long miserable day and still not complete relief and of course, now I have hemorrhoids making it way too painful.

I had my surgery yesterday morning and was supposed to go home today. They say I'm "borderline dehydrated" so I'll have to stay until tomorrow. That part confuses me though because I've been on nonstop fluids, drinking 1oz or more every 15 minutes, and my pee is practically clear! (sorry if tmi) my dad thinks they're milking the fact I've got two private insurances paying for all this. I just want to get home to my baby. How long were you in hospital??

Hi ladies! Meant to send this yesterday, but happy two month surgiversary! I hope all is well! I'm doing good, other than a terrifying issue with constipation a few days ago (TMI- sorry), but now that it's resolved, I feel awesome! Exercise routine is finally becoming "routine" and MFP is helping me stay on track! The weight loss is finally speeding up a bit, too! Again, hope you are well!

Disney World on 2nd week of Post-OP Liquid Diet?
june09bandit replied to Excited4Change's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is probably TMI, but it was my experience. I would have been miserable at a setting like Disney. I had horrible, "urgent", bowel movements when I was on liquids. Urgent defined as 1 minute or less to make it to the restroom. Just something to consider.... -
Embarrassed that I'm a newbie and venting..
susimar replied to susimar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, Suzanne..I definitely know it's a tool. I needed to be forced to set my life straight Healthwise :biggrin0: I agree, at least those 3 pounds will be ones that STAY off..KWIM? And I found out today why I haven't lost. AF has started...albeit 2 mos late!!! Sorry if that's TMI. I wish I had the energy to exercise more right now. I did ride my bike about 2 miles one evening and I walked about 2 miles another evening, but when I was done I felt like I might pass out. My poor DH, he said exactly what you said about my body being in shock with calorie difference... -
Days 3 and 4 were the hardest for me. I know this will be TMI, but not being able to have a bowel movement was REALLY bad. It did get better after day 4. You got this - drink up! I mean Water. lol
