    How about some NSVs!?!?

In 2 days I have been described with the adjective of thin. I have never been called thin in all my 37 years! Having new adjectives in how people describe me is a NSV.

    NSV shout outs

I actually can wear a XL flair skirt . I can finally wear skirts and shirts and get rid of my MOO MOO dresses. When I hug my children, I can actually feel them and wrap my arms around them. I don't feel like a slob. I can wear two bras comfortably to keep things up. I am able to zip up my winter coat without feeling like I am about suffocate. I can actully wear a jacket under my winter coat if i need to. I can cross my legs better (I am always crossing them) I can run up and down the stairs without my knees hurting! I can go all day without deodorant and not smell like a skunk. I can shave without any problems. I love my sleeve and I look forward to many NSVs. Later Losers!
  3. I won tickets to the football game on Sunday...several NSVs. I could walk from the parking lot and up the stairs without getting out of breath, I stood in the food line mainly for a bottle of Water & not all the food I could eat. Best of all though (well, besides the shock that the Rams actually beat the Broncos - sorry Denver fans), I could sit in the seat & actually bop around. Yes, I showed off to my hubby - especially since a year ago we were at the stadium for another event & I pretty much had to sit on the edge of my seat because my hips/thighs were wedged against the arm rests.
  4. here is a odd NSV i just noticed day before yesterday before surgery i could not put on my socks..i was too large to do this and yep hub had to do it...well i can now..but i noticed the socks the socks were on my ankle and when i went to take them off i noticed they were not on my (cankle) like a sausage wrap the sock was on properly and no stretch/too tight marks when it was removed that is what i wanted to share.

October 2014 sleevers check in please!

Hey everybody, Hope you all are doing well. Yesterday I had my 1 month post op appointment. I'm down 20 pounds since surgery and I feel great. I retuned to work yesterday and I am still finding my way back into my normal routine. I will start to incorporate cardio and strenght training next week along with my normal walking. NSV: I put on some gray pants that use to fit me skin tight and now they are so loose that they are almost falling off. Its an amazing feeling. I am even wearing heels today and my feet don't hurt from all the weight I use to carry!

    How's my calories?

Yes, most everyone goes through a stall around three weeks out. I'm not sure if I did, because I didn't weigh myself that often that first couple months. I don't even own a scale. I was sick with non-surgery related stuff and went to the doctor many times between weeks 6 and 15. Since I was getting weighed everytime I went in, I know I gained 3 pounds and then stalled for a month at around 6-7 weeks. Then there was the third time I needed IV fluids for dehydration. I actually gained 11 pounds in one day. Just goes to show how much Water weight can affect the scale. But Once I felt better and could eat and drink more, I started losing again. After a few months I started weighing myself once/week at work so I had something to enter on my ticker. I'm fully clothed, with boots or shoes (and long underwear these days) and sometimes weigh in the morning and sometimes after lunch. I'm more interested in the overall downward trend than the small daily and clothes-related variations of the numbers on the scale. I have had several stalls along the way, but still managed to lose100 pounds in less than a year. In fact, stalls are SO common and people get so upset about them that there is a subforum dedicated to stalls...."Don't Sweat the Stall Stuff". You may want to check it out. But my best advice is to stay off the scale. Concentrate on eating healthy and establishing new habits. Judge your weight loss by how your clothes fit and other NSV's. Actually, If it hadn't been for the doctor's scale, I wouldn't have known about that long stall because I dropped a whole pant size during that month I didn't lose a single pound. Try and enjoy this wonderful gift! As for protein, are you using Protein shakes? I didn't consume anything that didn't contain protein that first few months. It was actually easier to get in enough protein than enough water. And even at 11 months out I have a big protein smoothie with 30-40g protein everyday. Two of those and you'd easily be at goal. There are good protein ideas for all stages in the food and nutrition subforum on here. Good luck! Just trust the process, eat healthy, drink and stay off the scale. It will happen!

    Two NSVs today

    Congrats on two great NSV's!!!
  10. 1. My winter coat that I could not zip last year now overlaps in the front. 2. Had my first session with a personal trainer tonight. Was so worried! But she is very supportive and we are starting out very slow. 30 mins of slow cardio, 30 of very light resistance. A hot shower, in bed, feeling very relaxed now. All in all, a good day. Pretty darned good progress for just over 9 weeks. Love this surgery!

    Roll call for Sept 30th...

How's everyone doing? We are heading into our 7th wk post op-can you believe that? I see lots of us have gone through stalls. I know focusing on the scale is what most of us do, but what have been some of your biggest NSV (Non Scale Victories)? Mine were buying regular wide calf boots (vs extra extra wide calf) and taking the stairs instead of the elevator without losing my breath. Also, is it too early to share some of our "afters"? That's always great motivation.
  13. My first NSV was that my rings fit again. Now every one of them is too big and fall off. I even found my HS ring and it's too big... And I was not overweight in HS!
  14. Thank you for your responses. The horror stories I was reading were not from this forum, but another. I found a site via Pinterest and was looking at before/after pics. Then I came across a newbie post from a girl who was almost 21 and asking about things like scars and drinking because she wanted to drink on her birthday, etc. The replies were relentless and HARSH. I expect to see some bad stories, have seen some on this forum, but the backlash these ADULTS were giving this girl and the things they said scared me. Am I susceptible to fear a day or two pre-op? Why yes, yes I am. I came back here and found the NSV thread. That helped. Reading victories beyond the numbers, feeling people's happiness, having something to look forward to myself - I fell asleep. Now just one day to go.
  15. Only when I go to the doctor or once a month whichever comes first. My food diary and how my body feels is actually a better indication of how I am doing. This was especially true prior to my surgery. If I was eating properly, drinking Water and exercising I would lose no problem, so if I didn't have a doctor's appt I could stop by my GP and get weighed. Checking the scale even on a weekly basis just makes me crazy. Now that I have had been sleeved and I'm seeing the doctor monthly I practice the same philosophy. I focus on following the program, getting my exercise and drinking enough water. I'm 8 weeks and feel really, really good! I also look at other NSVs. My seatbelt in the car is looser. My bras are looser. My swimsuit is looser. Walking is easier.
  16. Was at my son and DIL last night for dinner and to see the nursery furniture they got for my newest grandchild due in April. The crib has the changing table attached and it's a big piece of furniture. The space between the crib and the dresser is a bit narrow so I suggested they might want to rearrange some things and my son said there was no reason to since we were all pretty skinny and wouldn't have any problems maneuvering. I looked at that space and said a silent prayer of thanks because I know that two years ago, I might not have been able to squeeze past so easily. Oh...and a dinner NSV as well. I knew which plate was mine when I saw how much food was on it. My DIL is getting used to mom sized portions and knows how much I eat Loving the new normal for sure.
  17. Kim - what a difference! As Claire says, you were beautiful in the wedding picture too - but now you look healthier as well as beautiful! Can't believe you wear a size 14 already. I'm down to a size 18 -this darn belly gets in the way Love the new jean ad on TV where the store has labelled them "Size Strong" or "Size Confident etc. - no numbers. Just started cleaning out my closet and have a huge pile of clothes going to charity. Swore I wasn't going to buy new stuff until I got to goal, but I literally had nothing to wear this winter - and it's way too cold in upstate New York to play Lady Godiva. So I just treated myself to some pants and sweaters - so many people have paid me compliments because my weight loss is more obvious without the old baggy clothes Went back to the gym this week - got retrained on all the weight machines and signed up for my favorite aquafit class and a yoga class. I'm proud of myself for getting all that in place before the weather gets too bad for walking outdoors. Last week I got lost in a huge park near here - took a wrong turn and ended up on a different trail miles away from my car. Took me about 2½ hours to find my way out - the good news is that I had no problem walking all that time (my dog was in heaven!). Absolutely could not have done that 9 months ago NSV?

    How's my calories?

Hey, I'll be here waitin for you! Good luck with everything. Seriously, just trust the process, make good choices and enjoy the NSV's! My rings fitting again was the first of many for me....what about you? (And, BTW, I had small weight gains and some pretty long stalls along the way, but the overall trend was obviously weight loss)
  19. Someone came up to me today looking very serious and said, "what are you doing?" I said, "what do you mean?" They repeated the question. Then they said, "you've lost so much weight! How did you do it?" My real NSV is that I've been at goal for so long now, I had no idea what he was talking about! I used to hear that several times a day, now people are used to the skinny new me. It felt pretty good!
  20. Not so much of a NSV for today, but one in general - I no longer get headaches. I used to get them pretty frequently but I can honestly say that I haven't had a headache of any sort for over 4 months! Maybe it is giving up caffeine or eating better, I don't know which, I just know I am headache free!
  21. My bedroom has been commandeered. Getting out of the shower, I realized I forgot to grab a fresh pair of undies. Put on my 'skinny jeans' commando no camel toe! None. Zip. So I just went with it TMI- I know Still, a personal NSV
  22. sometimes i have one daily and sometimes i have them and dont realize it... i still consider me just walking a NSV that i am forever to my WLS of choice for.. oh, and putting my own socks on w/o asking my ole man to do it for me♥

    Am I just broken?

But you got this.... Just stick with the program, and it will work. I lost 22 pounds on my 2 week preop and then took another 3 months to lose 30. What worked for me was upping my water and calories. Broke a month long stall doing that. And I've had other stalls along the way, but I just kept eating healthy, getting all my protein, water and vitamins and the eventually would lose a little more. Have faith and enjoy your NSV's.
  24. I'm the same - I only get weighed at the dr. Last time I was weighed was 10/3. I won't get weighed again until 12/10. I try to concentrate more on the NSVs!
  25. Here is my NSV. This upcoming weekend I'm helping my nieces move furniture into their 3rd floor apartment. Why is this an NSV? Never in a million years would I have been able to climb the darn stairs, much less cheerfully volunteer to carry furniture up three flights! I can't wait to be around these twenty-somethings and get some good exercise! *cue Urkel* "Did I say that!?!"
