The two things that have saved me are: 1. Isopure RTD Protein drinks available at GNC stores. Now, they don't taste the greatest, but they are much more palatable to me than Protein shakes right now. 2. Unflavored Protein powder (I have both Syntrax and Genepro). I add it to everything...broth, soup, pudding, etc. I would really like to try the Syntrax nectar drinks!

Definitely getting at least 64oz water daily. At least 60g protein too. I got sick of protein shakes, So I add a scoop of genepro to my morning yogurt, I buy the Chobani Flips, they're soo good!! Lunch is usually some type protein, sometimes as simple as cottage cheese with fruit, or chili. I sometimes buy a grilled chicken wrap from Wendy's and just scrape out the insides and eat it without the tortilla. I also use Pure Protein, protein bars. Higher protein and low sugar. I usually eat 3-4 times daily, sometimes a snack of cashews.

I have been drinking ready nutrician clear protein drinks and have tried genepro unflavored powder. It's all gross to me now after surgery. I have tried ensure, premier, ripple, core, bolthouse nectur......it all has a weird after taste now. [emoji53] Sent from my VS996 using BariatricPal mobile app

Drinking protein "shots"?
BigViffer replied to coyote's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chuck that Genepro in the trash. It is snake oil and a worthless protein. Stick with a tried and true whey protein that doesn't have a recent lawsuit loss. Optimum Nutrions Gold Standard is my go-to powder. I don't make shakes though, I make protein cakes. Scoop of protein powder, baking powder, and coffee creamer. 30-45 seconds in the microwave and done. -
Drinking protein "shots"?

Thanks! I'll check out that powder. My nutritionist required us to use Genepro for our supplement and I've also read the lawsuit against the company. Very interesting stuff. -
Protein powder - Smaller scoop?
BLERDgirl replied to ttdish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same. I use Isopure unflavored whey it's 26 gms per scoop. You may want to consider switching to a Protein powder that give you more bang for the buck. Other brands to try are Syntrax nectar, and GENEPRO. Personally I'm not a fan of Genepro's psuedo science method of counting their protein level, but others on this forum swear by it. -
Hi everyone, I just had my gastric bypass done on 5/30/2018 (last Wednesday). I am on stage 2 diet and it's a lot of liquids. I am also vegetarian, so it's hard to get my protein in. I like Genepro and I was wondering if I could add it to No sugar added "light start" instant breakfast. In my handbook from the hospital it says "sugar free" instant breakfast. I'm just so confused if the "no sugar added" and the "sugar free" are the same. It has 60 calories per packet and 7g sugar. I'd mix it with almond milk. Is it okay to drink? Thanks everyone. I'm new to this site, so i hope I'm doing this correctly! ps- Any vegetarians on here? What ways do you get protein in?

What Is Your Beverage of Choice?
ShelterDog64 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
@@PorkChopExpress Thanks! I love the powdery consistency of GENEPRO, I'm going to try it in a glass of tea later -
You can get it almost anywhere, at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, or from the store through this website. However, I usually order mine through Amazon. Steer clear of Genepro though.

New to the site and 9 days post-op of the sleeve and looking for encouragement:)
applegal79 replied to soubifan700's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the pre mixed Premier protein drinks from SAMs/Costco. They are a little pricy but 30g protein and tastes like a chocolate milk. I'm not a fan of these protein powders because if they don't mix well I can't get them down! I had my surgery on 12/12 so am still taking baby steps to 'normal' food. I found a product called genepro on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00K6OSDYA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1422081162&sr=8-1) that is 30g protein in a small scoop. I've read people put it in their coffee, I add it to my light cream soup and stir it up till it's dissolved in. (Don't put it in your water it makes it a very foggy color and doesn't dissolve well) I can't stand the isopure it tastes really nasty in my opinion! I have tried these protein waters and the grape isn't bad! Just keep trying you'll find something that works for you! attachment=51087:ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1422081372.189330.jpg] -
Any August 2019 people out there?
HipHopDiva replied to big_ange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok my surgery date is August 27th and I'm trying a new pureed recipe I found under this site - ricotta bake! My grand daughter helped and she loved it too! I used 4 oz glass containers but once in this stage, I wouldn't use the full container - only half. I also added 1 scoop of genepro to add more protein. Anyone tried anything else that was good? Can you have too much protein?
Kindle replied to Kitty112415's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As far as I'm concerned GENEPRO isn't really Protein. There are absolutely no third party studies or analyses that support the manufacturer's claims. There are no unbiased studies that indicate pre and post protein serum levels that would quantify the absorption rate and efficiency. No analysis of individual amino acids to indicate whether it is a complete protein or not. Basically They start out with whey protein, but the molecule is then so altered, it is really no longer a protein molecule. They play around a lot with the hydrogen. It doesn't take much to change what something is when you start adding and removing atoms. For example, the oxygen we breath is made of 2 oxygen molecules. Remove one of them, add two hydrogen molecules and you have Water. Add one more hydrogen and you have hydrogen peroxide. Oxygen, water and hydrogen are not interchangeable even though they differ by just 1-2 molecules. Now let's look at this company's other products....."miracle" weight loss and male enhancement supplements. Not a lot of credibility there. You're better off sticking with "real" protein supplements with decades of scientific proof that they are providing proper nutrition. But be careful not to chug down a high Protein shake in too short of time. Our intestines can only absorb 10-20g of whey protein per hour. Other types of protein are absorbed even slower. Any excesses protein is converted to glucose, so you might as well be drinking sugar water. -
January or February 2016 Sleevers?
860971 replied to songsmith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on how far out you are. My surgeon gave me the ok at 2 wks to have a scrambled egg if made very moist. I add milk before cooking. I have also blended Noodles and Company's hot pot entree. It tastes better that way. Check with your doctor. I also found Genepro powder supplement that I add to everything! It doesn't taste like anything but you get your protein without having to constantly drink the shakes. 1 tablespoon equals 30gm protein. -
9 Days post-DS Surgery problems with Protein Shakes
Sunnyway replied to Randall Morgan's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
There are numerous brands and flavors of high protein drinks, both ready-made and powdered. I find the plant-based shakes more palatable than the whey based. Try a variety of products. I never heard of the one you posted. Try Bariatric Advantage, Purely Inspired, Genepro, Orgain, Quest, etc. Walmart usually has a good selection or you can google search for "high protein shakes". ALWAYS read the nutritional data before buying. You want something with at least 20 g protein, and low sugar/carbohydrate. There are even high protein soup powders. I've tried the ones from Proti Diet, and Bariatric Advantage. Stay away from protein bars. They reinforce a snacking-candy bar habit. Unfortunately, they and other snack type food are sold on the bariatric merchant sites, but they are on the slippery slope to returning to old bad habits. -
Scared out of my mind
leahhindi replied to haleymarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@haleymarie - what does your diet consist of? My liquid diet includes Soups, broth, yogurt, Jello, shakes, unlimited steamed or raw vegetables (NO DRESSING OR SAUCES) and skim milk. Yesterday, I reinterpreted the diet to include thinned out sugar free pudding. :-) I added something called GENEPRO medical grade Protein. It has 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon. It is odorless and tasteless and didn't even change the consistency of the pudding. I have been having a very difficult time getting down the shakes so wasn't taking in enough protein or calories and this is helping me tremendously. Thanks to this Protein powder, I met my calorie/protein requirements yesterday and I did not feel exhausted and nauseous. Now I am sure some experienced VSGers will tell you 100 reasons why this protein powder isn't "good enough" or "preferred" but right now, I have to get thru this and if a 60 calorie cup of thinned out protein 2x a day is getting in my protein requirements, I'm just peachy with it! -
Flying while sleeved!
trekker954 replied to taylor2621's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
good topic. I too fly a lot and often to Asia. I asked my surgeon (have not had my surgery yet) and he said I could fly 10 days after. That's a bit too soon IMHO being the more experienced one. I am hoping to fly once I get on pureed food. I believe not only the flying may be difficult, but being in China for two weeks on business, having to attend luncheons, etc. I figured I can survive by ordering Soup and maybe mushy fish, or just soup and toss a tablespoon on GENEPRO in it. -
Looking for people that had their surgery on January 24th or close to it.

Yes I'm on liquids until day 16 *sigh* I'm still trial and error with everything so far the only things I like are sf pudding, fudgesicles, and my crystal light, still trying to find a Protein powder I like because as of now I use GENEPRO but don't know if I should trust it has 30 grams or not. NYE 2019 surgery date twin?
cutebutcrzy replied to Bamachicvsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried Genepro? It's unflavored and doesn't change the texture of the food. I literally have been putting it in everything but my water. Herbal tea, pudding, soup, yogurt, etc. I have really big issues with food textures and it's been great. I agree that I can't handle the taste of any of the other protein drinks. They make me want to gag. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Genepro. Stay away
JerseyJules replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT recommended Genepro and I think its just fine. Its plain unflavored protein powder without all the flavorings and additives in the other flavored brands. Which could lead to the smaller serving size delivering the same protein. Im not skeptical at all and there are no real scientific facts disproving their claim. -
Tip: I was using this until I read on this site that NUTs don't advise it. That it's not possible to have 30g of protein in 1 tbl as they suggest. I spoke to my nutritionist and she said same thing to stay away. Thanks Nancy

Genepro. Stay away
Christina.Rose replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone! The opinions on Genepro are so polarized its interesting. I think I will use it, assume its 20g instead of 30g and when I am allowed to eat meat, be grateful for not being stuck drinking any shakes! -
