The Master List...
chickadee81 replied to rkwilliams1013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh and TMI ALERT!!!! My dr also warned me that when you get the gas moving....be warned it may only feel like a fart, but sometimes it's more! (something with the anesthesia and then all the liquids they pump in ya makes you loose) I farted on the toilet for the first few days as well -
Anybody else have diarrhea before surgery. My surgery is Wednesday and my stomach has been so upset.

Well, I made it through my first shift back at work. But I have to say, I was BEAT this morning! Thankfully, it wasn't a hughly busy shift, so I could pace myself, sip on my water all night, got to take a break, etc. Some nights it is so crazy that even a bathroom break is out of the question (sorry, TMI!). Only problem was, I was way to beat to swim with my roommate this morning before going to bed. I got home and told her, "sorry, I am headed straight to bed!" And I slept like I had died. So now it is back to work again tonight and tomorrow, and then I have a couple of nights off, which will be nice. When I got home this morning, I made my usual "Pit stop" at the scale on my way to bed, and was disappointed to see that I weighed the same as yesterday morning. Sort of discouraging. I walked a lot last night at work, and thought that would help in the weight loss battle. But then I know that weight loss isn't always smooth and even. I was somewhat discouraged when I got to work last night. I had told two people at work (IN CONFIDENCE!) about the upcoming weight loss surgery, and when I got to work, it seemed like EVERYONE knew I had had the surgery, that I had gone to Mexico to have it, etc. I am not sure which one of my co-workers "spilled the beans", but am sort of upset that one or both of them would tell something that I had told them in confidence, and asked them NOT to tell anyone about! I am a contract worker, and did this between contracts, so it isn't like I had to inform administration or HR about the surgery. For all they knew, I was just taking some time off between contracts. I had tons of "unsolicited" advise last night, about my diet, my weight loss, my vitamin intake, etc. There are three gals at work who have had various bariatric procedures (not sure what exact procedure) and one of them came to me to tell me how it was "the worst thing she had ever done in her life!" Now why would she tell me that? I am working hard to make a success of my surgery and post-op experience, and she tells me about her infections, her subsequent surgeries needed to "fix what the weight loss surgery did to me", etc! I mean, how depressing. I guess some people just can't let someone else be happy that things are going right! Oh well, enough complaining. Have to start getting ready for work. Hope all you pre and post op Sleevers are doing well. Talk at you more later............

Hi Jen! You just described my feelings exactly. We are very similar in height and weight as well. I am day 2 post op... Although I've had some post -op issues, the surgery itself went well. Maybe TMI, but, after they took out the catheter I was obviously expected to urinate in the bathroom ( I may also mention that I am on the heaviest menstral cycle I'v e had in over a year). Well everything went well until I realize I couldn't bend to wipe myself. It was rather eye-opening and embarrassing to have the nurses' aid wipe for me. And the second time I went to pee, I roughed through the wiping part, but my underwear fell to the floor and I could t pick them up. Again, mortifying. Luckily my nurse was super understanding to made me feel a bit better. So far the best information I could give you is to advocate for yourself. If you're in pain, tell them. If you need help in the bathroom, tell them. There is a reason you're in the hospital and the nurses are there to help. - Angela

If theres no chance you could be pregnant than maybe talk to your gyn it may just be from the trauma of your surgery to your body. Geez I used to be a lightweight bleeder but since my sleeve its like the flood gates opened so gross. Ughh I know TMI

I forgot all about the extra farting! Oh damn, I hope I don't have to go through that again when I'm re-banded. :/ This may be TMI, but the other thing that used to happen was whenever my partner and I were getting 'snuggly' my tummy would make these weird 'fruit burping' noises. He said it was his audio gauge as to whether he was doing all the right things . It was one of the first signs that made me suspect that my band was leaking, when I stopped making those sounds in my tummy. It also kinda gave him a complex that he was losing his mojo!

2 days post op extreme pain
Michie_be_me replied to Michie_be_me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, a TMI question. How long did it take you to have your first bowel movement after surgery. I still have not had one. Is this normal. I am 3 1/2 days post op. My last one was Sunday night the night before surgery. -
Some of this may be TMI for folks but thought i'd put it out there Got to the hospital on 10/11 surgery was at 7:25 on the dot and at 11:30 am I was in recovery not feeling a thing the doctor calle my daughter to let her know how I was doing, I had made the decision that I wasn't going to let anyone know in my family which I have stuck too its been hard because I'm excited to see the changes. any how on to the way i'm feeling- by 2 pm on Tuesday my heart was pounding I was not doing well, I ended up getting two blood transfusions, way to many pin sticks my orginal IV went bad by the beginning of night one so they had to fight to find another place for a new one- I have so many black and blues on my arms that I look like a needle junkie, finally they had someone from cardiac care come up and put a new IV in thank god I was in tears and it was 2 am. Lots of pills to help with my heart, way to many blood draws to make sure it was all going ok, today I'm home and resting. but I have the dreaded drain still in and it will be with me for 3 weeks it freaks me out big time trying to log the liquid and keep it drained I knew I wasn't a nurse for a reason. LOL I was suppose to go back to work next tuesday but due to complications there was no way he would release me so now I'm off until 10/25 when i see him and than maybe one week past that if he doesn't feel i'm doing well enough. I'm fustrated and I've certainly had the talk with myself along the lines of WHAT TO HELL DID I DO THIS FOR? but still hoping it will work out after a few weeks but right now WOW was I stupid for having this surgery, it was much easier having the band surgery.. in and out and back to work by day 3.. Well I'm off everyone i hope those that are on their way or have been sleeved have a much easier time of it best of luck to you all. B002011

A bit new to all this but I seem to have a lucky constitution of steel apparently, well most of the time anyway. I haven't found a real big no no yet and it seems all the forbidden fruits are allowed: bread, rice, deli turkey slices etc BUT twice I have had PB's and one of them a well described EPGSHFLYADV: Excrutiatingly Painful Gagging Sliming Heaving Feels Like You're About to Die Vomitation (suggested replacement for PB, by Strawarts) But it all seems more related to timing and I can't figure it out yet... I don't think it's fast eating or bad chewing as a matter of fact, it starts after 2 bites and comes back well shred ( sorry for the TMI ) But it is usually at supper time and I can't figure if it's too much exercise , too early after next meal or what the...? For example this was my enormous lunch with no problems whatsoever Lunch Olive Oil 3g 27 Cal Butter 3g 22 Cal Egg Whites 1 cup 115 Cal Mushrooms 100 g 22 Cal Turkey Breast Slices 85g 85 Cal Green Onions 40g 6 Cal Garlic 6 g (2 cloves) 9 Cal Parmesan 10g 56 Cal 342 Cal But last night one bite of chicken and shredded broccoli sent me out calling Ralph! One hour later after a bit of yoghurt that same chicken (cold this time) went down just fine. Go Figure! Any help out there? This has only been happening since my fill by the way. Banded March 6th 2007, first fill April 4th, 5cc in a 9cc band The rest of my diet is on http://www.lapbandtalk.com/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=683

My dietitian said that those giant noisy tummy rumbles are mostly from the "sip, sip, sip" drinking we do after surgery...every little sip takes in air which gets itself down into your "big tummy" and because there's no food there the air just rumbles around. I had it too and quite a few times my husband was in the kitchen and I was in the lounge and he heard it from where he was! Dry DeGas for the gas. I too had the most horrific gas pains imaginable, but DeGas is amazing, I took two little magic minty tablets (they're tiny don't worry about swallowing them) every few hours and oh! the relief! Try them, they won't hurt you and they might just work... I swear it took about a week for all the gas to disappear from my abdomen. And it's got to come out somewhere, but husband was calling me "tuba butt" (sorry for TMI)...which made me laught...and clutch my stomach even more... I'm 3 weeks post op today, and it does get better!

Hello. Sorry about the TMI, but maybe someone here knows an answer. I am usually constipated.. It's normal for me.. BUT the last week has been completely different. Every time I eat I get the urge to go to the bathroom. I get this urgency, I start sweating and even nauseous. I had my gastric sleeve revision from lapband in December and this is new.. Anyone experience this?

Will be BANDED August 25th....Anybody Else??
ruthpets replied to Parshuter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone! Glad to hear all my fellow band-ees are doing well! I had the procedure 8/24 and am really doing much better than I expected. The surgery went on w/no probs., I was able to get the single incision above belly button & it seems to be healing w/o complications. Only annoying thing to happen was - sorry if TMI - that I couldn't pee too well on my own after the surgery & had to be on a catheter:crying:...But, TG, it was resolved the next day!! As for eating, my surgical team (on Long Island, NY) has patients start out the day after surgery on mushies, so before I left the hospital I had had some cream of wheat, but could only eat a few bites. The bloating from the gas has def. affected my app. So far so good for me. I have been very active (in a reasonable post-op way), am only taking Tylonol (not the percoset the dr. gave me), and sleeping well. Need to work on the water/liquid aspect during the day, it's still hard to drink all that Fluid when I feel so bloated. But, hunger-wise, I am okay. Pls. let's all of us keep up w/one another! I look forward to hearing about your progress and I am going to figure out how to do the ticker thing as well! Ruth -
Ist week, some pain, some gas in shoulders, any liquid or non solid. Mostly Protein shakes and Crystal lite for me. I also drank some clear broths and after the first week just blended up chicken noodle soups. Focus on protein. My doc has me drink 2 oz of protein at the top of every hour and other sugar free liquids the rest of the hour. That kept me full. Try to drink something at least every 15 minutes. Walk, walk, walk and if you have back or shoulder pain try windmilling your arms as you walk. Walk somewhere every hour even if it is only to refill your liquids. May be TMI but don't expect a lot of BMs. My doc would not even consider a laxative until after 5 days. Follow the advice given by your doc and try to relax. Nervous makes you hungrier! Good luck and keep us posted on your journey!

OK so since last weeks blog got deleted, ill do a quick update. STATS: surgery 12-12-11 5'7" Hw: 265 GW:250 DoS:238.1 CW:212.1 DOWN 26 LBS...OH YEA! So here it is week 5. And honestly i think im doing pretty well.. Ive had ups Ive had downs, but overall im doing good... CAUTION-- this might be TMI.. lol So on the 14th, mother nature decided she was gonna rear her ugly head, gotta love that time of the month. And so far i havent really dealt with any stalls.. i had a minor gain the 3rd week, but that came off with some so i wasn't to unhappy and it only lasted a day or two so wasn't to bad. Anyways, so i have been steadily loosing approx 2 lbs per day before my TOM, and then once it started i gained 2 lbs.. damn water retention..lol. anyways So even tho im back to 212, im just sitting at this number until my cycle ends. its a little frustrating, but its just something im going to have to deal with. I guess the reason that i brought it up is because now im just going to laugh... this means every month im gonna deal with this. LMAO! ugh the joys of being a woman. Ill tell you why its funny to me.. before surgery i had been on DEPO for 9 years. I haven't had a freaking period in 9 years... ugh now im gonna have one every month. lolololol... FABULOUS! Anyways thats my rant and rave for the week.. other than that.. YUP im still hitting the gym 5 days a week, and it feels great!... JUST STARTED KICK BOXING... and lemme tell you.. that is a work out and a half!.. lastly, i have my follow up with my surgeon on the 27th! Im hoping she releases me to start doin full workouts.. i want to start working my abs!

How long does port pain last???
ChicagoRose replied to asho_26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happens to me too! It's not really pain though...just uncomfortable or tender. Also happens during sex on occasion...sorry TMI, or if I'm sitting weird for too long. -
It took me 15 days, Colace, senna tablets and Miralax..... but I finally "did it". I guess I missed the "diarrhea" phase the Dr. warned us about. No straining either which is what I was worried about after more then 2 weeks. This may be TMI, but my 7 pound puppy poops more then I do.

PBing or Vomitting after sleeve?
feedyoureye replied to Deedle Dee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
TMI coming your way! Lucky for me when I slime (so far) I don't puke, I just cant swallow anything else, and my mouth fills up with thicker than saliva "slime" that I spit out. After a few spits, usually the sensation goes away... but can't eat anything for a while... The last time this happened, I only had one spoon of cream of broccoli soup... and started sliming... so it didn't take much or even eating fast... the soup did taste horrible....what the sleeve wants to do, the sleeve does.... -
There is no polite way to say this. I think I am experiencing labial chafing! I have lost a LOT of weight in the past year of so and since wearing smaller clothes, I think all my clothes are rubbing on the extra skin near the vaginal/ labial area. I have tried wearing looser clothes, but eventually pants etc do start rubbing, I wear pantiliners daily and I have tried every OTC remedy known to man (inc gold bond- don't try it- it is painful!!). Anyone else experience this? Aside from vaginoplasty, what did you do? Thanks!!

Post-op periods
jhclikesshopping@gmail.com replied to Stephanie Stroup McIntosh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi!!! I am six weeks post op - and my period was last week. I swear.... my entire uterus came out during my period ( I know TMI). I honest have not bleed that much since I misscarried over 10 years ago. WOW!!! And the cramps - were so bad. According to my surgeon, the periods are a mystery after surgery. So anything can go. Here is what I did.... When the cramping was bad (and yes, I wanted to wrap myself in a ball and die) - I got up and walked around. This really helped - sure at first it sucked but it did let up after a few minutes of walking. Night time was the worst - so I just went up and down the stairs when I woke up. And this first period was 9 days - can you say - kill me now!!! -
WARNING: might be TMI for some...read at your own risk. So, in an effort to gage how my abscess is healing, I made my fiance' while changing my packing, stick the q-tip down as far as it would go....ok, so I knew that the CT scan showed that it was like 3.5" deep. (ok, lemme take a step back and breathe a sec) So its been 10 days since the drainage. The q-tip went in half way!!!! I almost started crying!! I was thinking it should be so much further on in the healing process! All this packing, this open gash...its just so ughhhhhhhhh!!!! OK, sorry for the mini meltdown, I'm feeling better but this is keeping me from exercising, from doing anything really strenuous...gah! And I'm scared of getting an infection (yeah, I'm a germ-a-phobe at times) So, I sit and wait....tick tock tick tock...till my body heals....talk about a lesson in patience!!!
