    July 2021 Surgery People!

Hey, July Surgery People! For those that want to share-Let's do a stats check! ✔📉⚖ How is your progress going? (NSV, inch loss, weight loss, pre or post op, phase.) Good luck everyone! Hope things are going well for you! I can't wait to see everyone's updates! 😊 _________________ Surgery Status: Pre Op VSG (July 26th) Phase: pre op diet week 2 Highest known weight: 291 Starting weight: 280 Current Weight: 271.7 Inch loss: (doing once a month, so I don't know loss yet) NSV: not much yet, but some clothes seem a little more comfortable
  7. OK, this is not weird, but it's the BEST NSV I could ever have and the BIGGEST reason I did my surgery. I got my labs back today and my liver enzymes are NORMAL. And not just high normal, either, but solidly in the mid-range. They were very high before! I have been in happy tears all day because of it! My liver disease was the thing that finally made me decided I needed surgery and it was SO worth it! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Surgeon Disappointed 😞

I only lost 15 my first month. I am 6 months out and have lost 85 total although 10 of it is after a revision last week as an emergency. I had a perforated ulcer which is rare. Do you still work with a nutritionist? If not I highly recommend it. Mine has been awesome! Especially when I had stalls and felt really down like you. They kept telling me that my body has had significant trauma from surgery and is trying to figure out what the heck just happened. I agree with a comment above about it being a marathon. I thought I was losing slow but to see my total weight loss after 6 months I feel better. Maybe put your scale away and weigh in once a month. Also track your NSV’s. I had 6 weeks of no weight loss but I went down a whole pant size!
  9. OK, here's a funny one. I need to start off by saying that my husband is supportive, thinks I'm beautiful at 240 pounds when we first met 18 years ago, all the way up to when I weighed almost 400. I've lost 165 so far and naturally have a ton of loose skin. You can also feel a lot of my bones now underneath it all. Anyway, my husband and I were lying in bed and talking about my progress and I was talking about the loose skin, and he said yeah, I have a sack-o-Tricia now! Now I know this may sound like an insult, but he was just saying it was crazy how much I've lost, and I died laughing at "Sack-o-Tricia". And what I love about it is that he knows that Tricia is the person I am, not the shell I am inside. And I love him for that. He's always loved me for me. So it's sort of a NSV, but also I'm super lucky to have such a supportive husband. I'm pretty darned proud to be a Sack-o-Tricia now! [emoji1787] Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. These are all such wonderful NSV's! I also got to buy clothes for the first time ever at Costco this summer! I got shorts in a XL! I still can't believe it! Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. Not weird, but an NSV for sure. I have always loved kayaking. However, pre op I could hardly squeeze my fat *as in to one anymore. Now I can, comfortably and paddle all day long ❤️ This was today on the Charles River in Boston.
  12. I can relate so hard to all of the above but the biggest NSV for me recently was that a few weeks ago we discovered that my 10 year old can actually put his arms all the way around me when I hug him now! Now he loves to "trap" me in a hug! Could not be sweeter!!!
  13. Thanks for the NSV shares folks - I love stopping in on this thread for a little inspiration. below are some more recent NSV I've had: yesterday I was on my feet in the kitchen for 3 hours cleaning and doing food prep. I still had enough energy to go for a walk afterward. Previously, I would have been exhausted and in too much pain after that much time on my feet to even contemplate more activity. I've seen some of you mention this...revved up libido and increased "romantic joy". It's really really really REALLY true. Everything about sex is just way more fun. DH and I celebrated our 25th anniversary this week like it was our honeymoon! 😂 I reactivated an old back injury recently and was able to do the rehab exercises much easier than when I was 60 pounds heavier and I started feeling better in less than half the time than I would have prior to WLS. I'm fitting in size 16 bottoms and large tops and was able to buy clothing for myself at Costco for the first time ever. I got a couple of cute shirts for 6 bucks, an unheard of price for the plus-size clothes that Costco doesn't even carry. My husband can pick me up and has decided that his new workout is called "wife lifting". I'm perfectly fine with this, you know...gotta support his fitness goals! 😂😂😂

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Anyone have any NSV to share? I’m in a large shirt now(went from 2x) and my waist size is 35 inches which means I officially have a healthy non obese waist size according to the cdc. I’m down exactly 50lbs! So proud of myself and my journey so far. hows the gym going for everyone? I’m hitting it 5x a week. Also I’m loving my yoga routine. im starting to be able to eat more than usual. Meal prepping is going really well for me. But chicken is the only meat I can do as fish just makes me cringe, turkey is to heavy and sits in my tummy like a rock, pork is ok but I don’t like it so much.

    Checked that off the list

One of my NSV aspirations!! Good for you!
  16. I am 11 months post op gastric sleeve. My highest weight ever was reached in June of 2019 and I was horrified to weigh in at 502 lbs! I didn't believe it and requested the doctor to re-weigh me. That was my first wake-up call. I was suffering from very high blood pressure, debilitating back pain/spasms, knee pain and damage, sciatica, and sleep apnea. I started doing keto and got down to 415lbs. During COVID quarantine, I gained back up to about 459lbs. In July of 2020, I finally decided to take back my life and financed a vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgery (out of pocket, since insurance would not cover it). As of yesterday, I'm down to 275 lbs. I have gone from a 6xl shirt to a 2xl. From size 62 pants, to a size 44. I still struggle to see myself as anything but fat from time to time, but it's the Non-Scale Victories (NSVs) that keep me going! My only regret is not doing this sooner. Sometimes I wish I could go back and re-do certain life experiences without the extreme morbid obesity. Here's my running list: - I’m off of all medications (including 2 BP meds). - No more seat belt extension on airplanes - Seats with arm rests are no problem. - Restaurant booths are now no problem - I can fit in an MRI machine (if needed). - I can now walk ANYWHERE without debilitating back pain. - The car steering wheel no longer rubs my stomach. - I can shop in most “regular” stores for clothes. - I no longer worry about a seat being able to hold me (those plastic white ones at weddings are even ok now). - I can use my own step ladder to do things around the house like change a light bulb. - I can sit with my legs crossed. - I can now get down on the floor. - My “love life” has drastically changed/Improved. - too many to list! Notice there is a lot of use of the word “CAN” here? All in less than a year. The little black battery operated box on the floor cannot control me any longer! Yea, it’s still important. But weight is no longer the defining characteristic of my life. Sleeved 7/23/20. HW 502, SW 459, CW 275, GW healthy

    Work NSV

Oddball work NSV this morning.... "power suit" vs. comfort. As a manager who often has to deal with a customers management, I was always VERY self conscience about clothing and accessories (expensive watch, jewelry, clothing, shoes, etc.) when I had meetings where I knew I had to project a certain authority. This morning I am having to deal with a great customer, but unfortunately have to give some not so great news. As I was getting ready today, I realized that I no longer feel the NEED to project a certain image with clothing. As an almost "normal sized" person, wearing more "casual" attire (slacks and a polo with the company logo) I don't look sloppy and not put together. YAY - NEVER saw this one coming!!

    Struggling! Motivation needed please :)

Thank you everyone! I know I am so hard on myself. I need to just remind myself that I have already lost over 115lbs since only last December, its only been six months which is amazing. I have felt a lot better, im able to actually put on my shoes, able to move more. My joints dont hurt as much as when I was in my 400s. I found myself doing more around my apartment now like re-decorating and I have a much easier time cleaning. i dont ask my fiance to help me out as much, so I definitely feel more independent again. I am having a difficult time getting my protein and my water intake in, so I definitely need to work on this. i know today I only did about 30g of protein and I need to do at least 65 grams of protein per day. I tried drinking a protein shake to increase my intake but after a few sips, I was so sick of it. So that to me is a bit of a challenge. Today, I haven't done 64oz of water but I have done 50oz of water so far today which is the most I have done in the past month so at least im moving forward.... I definitely need to start paying more attention to the NSV. For example, now when im driving, my stomach isn't touching the steering wheel anymore which means I have a much easier time moving the steering wheel. I also don't need a seat belt extender anymore, however I still use it because my seatbelt sometimes locks up but still....that's a huge accomplishment! Now when im reminding myself how far I have come, I am feeling quite proud of myself. Thank you everyone, this is the motivation I needed

You lost 55 pounds in six weeks (down 125 pounds total) and you’re questioning your decision? That’s an amazing weight loss already! Remember, the less you weigh, the slower the weight comes off. I definitely understand being obsessed with the scale but I encourage you to focus on NSVs also. And think about long-term goals. I know it’s going to take me about a year to lose 115 pounds, so I am taking it day by day. I recommend working with a bariatric therapist or seeking behavioral strategies from Overeaters Anonymous or a mindful eating program to learn to stop eating when full. It can be really tough especially when you love the food you’re eating. But, this is a journey and a battle and we have so many resources to help us. Good luck!

How much weight training is enough

That is similar to what I started doing around 2 months post-op. Idk that it helped with loose skin, but it definitely seemed to help with weight loss. Also, I look toned and fit. I actually had a stranger on a plane the other day say I was “ripped” and asked if I do cross fit. The stranger also happened to be a very attractive man in my age group. Lol! Best NSV yet! 😊
  21. oh my goodness - yesterday was a big NSV for me - I went on a 10 mile bike ride! I still can't believe I rode that far! My legs were jelly at the end and I am sore today, but it was soooooo fun! Being on my bike makes me feel like a happy kid.
  22. New NSVs! I now fit into all the clothes I stashed away after getting too big for them. I tried on my wedding dress yesterday - and it fit me! Here is the weird one: I can see my thigh "saddle bags" that used to bother me so much. I love them now because they are a symbol of my body taking shape now that they are no longer blending into and being covered by other extra fat.
  23. That's a great NSV! You look amazing!! I could barely buckle my driver's seatbelt before and my surgery and my stomach touched the steering wheel. Driving is so much better now. Sent from my Nokia 7.2 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Congrats. That’s awesome NSV!!
  25. I got a new NSV...at work they have the temperature scanners where you stand in front of a screen. The screen has the outline of a person to kind of guide you on where you're supposed to be standing. I didn't used to fit in the outline, now I do!!!!!!!
