    Cost of complications

ShoppGirl- I went from ER to operation room and then was out of it for 3 days so they didn't say anything at the hospital about billing but when I contacted the billing department, they told me that they got preapproval from the insurance for admission. They refused to submit the bill with the correct codes and referred me to a company that would decide if I qualify for financial assistance.

    Food Before and After Photos

So I get very very very hungry right before my period and the first few days of my cycle. It is so intense that I feel that there is a hole in my stomach where the food disappears 10 minutes after I’ve eaten. It is so weird and I have never experienced this pre WLS. I have clocked 1750 calories for 4 days straight and a whopping 120 grams of protein because I can’t seem to get full. Then I just lose interest in eating for the rest of my cycle, anyone else experience this? Things I’ve eaten the past few days: Galore of burgers. Double smashed cheeseburgers, a classic burger, and a spicy crispy chicken burger. Maple buffalo shrimps Up close and personal on the spicy chicken burger. So hubby was quite taken aback at how much I ordered (knowing he’ll have to eat most of it, teaser: he did) I got excited to try everything (teaser: I didn’t). I hade around 3/4 of one half of the smash cheeseburger, and a bite of the spicy chicken burger which was soooo good but then I felt so sick and regretted eating that. Hubby ate most of the shrimps, his whole burger and my half. The rest was put in the fridge. There was also a large portion of fries which I didn’t taste.

I went back a little over a week after. I work remote and in person. You will be on pain meds for awhile, so you might not be great at work on those.

    Psych evaluation?

It’s takes a little while. They have to transcribe everything and make it all official so it can go to the insurance. Some doctors don’t have anyone on staff to do that and they have to send it out so to speak. Mine was over a week.

    Cost of complications

Sleevetobypass2023- Yes they did the sleeve at a surgical center (very common in Florida) they have private staff to keep you over night but at 10:15pm when it was time for me to walk again I was dizzy and my BP was low so they called my husband and told to drive me to the hospital that my surgeon text him the info for. By the time I arrived at the hospital I had already loss 2000cc of blood and looked 9 months pregnant. As far as the surgeon he said he is sorry, these things happen and there is nothing he can do. He won’t even help have the hospital correct the billing codes. BCBS told me they don’t cover any WLS or complications from it but they paid to remove my lap and 3 years ago.

    Psych evaluation?

How long did it usually take you guys to get your results? It's only been 3 days and I'm already nervous as heck. I was going to wait at least a week before calling the bariatric clinic to see if they have my results yet but... yeah... nervous.
  9. I was self pay at a surgical center and had to go to a hospital 10 hours later for another surgery because of internal bleeding(nicked artery), needed several transfusions and spent 3 days in the hospital plus had to have more blood and iron transfusions after leaving that hospital. I’m now stuck with over $175,000 in hospitals bills and more still coming. BCBS is denying the claim because they don’t cover bariatric surgery or complications. The hospital billed it as complications of lap band instead of complications of gastric sleeve. I’m told it doesn’t matter because they won’t pay either but what if I want to appeal it, shouldn’t it be billed correctly?
  10. Do you like seafood? I mean have you tried it post surgery. I didn’t like it presurgery. Would occasionally have a little Mahi just because I knew it was good for me but never really liked it. Post surgery I usually eat seafood at least twice a week, I also have things with ground turkey such as a Mexican skillet, meatballs or turkey taco filling (I just do the meat and toppings without the taco shell or the lettuce). The lettuce would be fine of course but it just takes up valuable room. I also do things with lean beef such as chili. I will also do a “pasta” dish once a week which is either the ricotta bake which I make with a protein and veggies added, zucchini noodles with fresh basil pesto, or a low carb Italian bake that I found the recipe for online although I make mine with turkey sausage to cut the fat a bit. There are quite a few bariatric recipe sites that have some great recipes. I did like 3 weeks of all different recipes. You can also do like a white chicken chili or southwest chicken with peppers and onions. Just so your don’t have to eat just plain chicken nuggets. If you don’t love to cook the southwest chicken and the chicken chili are recipes from seasoning packets so they are fairly simple if you have a Walmart the southwest ranch is a street taco seasoning from McCormick and the white chicken chili seasoning is by McCormick as well. Those two and the McCormick tex Mex chili are three of my favorite meals that are relatively simple and the chili Freezes well so I have been doing a double batch and then use my souper cubes to freeze single servings. The chili does have healthy carbs though so of course be mindful of that. I am allowed some carbs because I’m pretty active but I still budget for them by doing pretty low carb for breakfast and lunch on days I know the plan is chili is for diner.

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

i did boxing for a spell last year (went 3 times a week for about 2 months). its an arm workout alright! (and abs and back, with a crazy amount of cardio for added measure omg) Mr. says boxing is what gave me my "boulder shoulders" hahahhaha. BUT...i threw out my left shoulder AND right elbow (from going too hard i guess? or probably just bad form) and that ended my boxing career :(... i still have lingering left shoulder injury arg. so the lesson im sharing is: stay healthy during boxing and you can achieve (and maintain!) a pretty awesome physique!

    TODDLERS

I had my gastric sleeve last week on Tuesday. I was able to start back working on Friday. I was just a little bit sore but wearing the ab binder really helps especially if you’re dealing with children and you have to be down a little bit because without it on it hurts a lot have been down already back up to walking without any problems I do about 9000 steps a day. I don’t have any small children. I have teenagers but they’re just as bad as toddlers. I have to do stuff around the house. They help out a lot but at least for me. It was only a couple days after surgery that I feel like I was able to do enough, so take your time to listen to your own body we’re all gonna be different. My results are not usual and even my doctor thinks it’s crazy that I’m able to do the things I’m able to do.

Omg lucky! What a fantastic score!!! We don't have thrift stores here 😭😭 We do however, have those budgeted stores which I visited but barely found anything nice. I got 2 shirts but were still abit tight on me which were like 3 USD each..

Had mine sept 18th just over two weeks and I feel great minus the nausea here and there I’m learning to do better with my food choices
  15. I had my gastric bypass in June of 2020. It was a revision from a sleeve due to GERD. I did really good after surgery as I went from 260 to 220 and than As of the past week I have went from 214 to 202lbs in a week. I have been soooo sick, throwing up everything I eat, I’m crazy restless and my chest feels tight. I feel like something might be wrong but I was in the hospital overnight and they couldn’t find anything other than some levels that were low but I’m still really sick, to be honest it is about as bad as when I first had my bypass. I would love to hear if anyone else has had this after 4 years or if you have any advice on how to get food and nutrients in me. I am getting kinda scared and desperate.
  16. Do you live alone Fars? That seems so much harder than if cooking is being done for more people but it's doable with a bit of meal planning and a well-organised freezer I suspect. At 4 months I was eating pretty much everything apart from white carbs and sugar (including hidden sugars). I still eat those in very limited quantities 3 years post op because those are what made me obese. I also cook everything from scratch but I love cooking so that's not a chore. Soup I had by the gallon - all types - lasts several days and it's very freezable in one portion pots. @summerseekeris a huge soup fan and might be able to suggest some more adventurous ones but I did a lot of chunky chicken soup, hot and sour lentil, fish chowders. I liked plain greek yoghurt with a few berries for breakfast. I always had oatmeal for supper. Eggs eggs eggs are your best friends - scrambled, fried, boiled, poached. I never tire of them and they're so quick if you get hangry. My dinner was a small portion of your average family dinner without the carbs. Pasta dishes, stews, curries, burgers, tacos, sausages, fajitas, roast dinners with veg. I still eat all of these things, just more now! I hope you can find some variety, you must be fed up of the same few dishes.

I’m really frustrated and need some help. My dietitian was sick this week when we were supposed to have our appt (not frustrated at her, people get sick). What I’m frustrated about is that my appt was on Tuesday and Wednesday was my 5 week out mark, so we were already pretty much a week behind. I want to start on soft foods and have tried a few, but I’m also nervous because usually the dietitian usually gives me a food plan and foods I should and should not eat. What did you guys start soft foods with so I can feel more confident trying a few more things until our next appt on next Tuesday? I have tried hard boiled eggs, lentil soup, and tuna/chicken from a can.
  18. Hey bari family ❤️ I know body dysmorphia is something that is really common in this community, and I did expect it of course, but I am really feeling it at the moment. To preface my feelings I am about to describe, I am PMS-ing so I know a lot of this is probably exacerbated by that! Either way, I have had such a noticable influx of people complimenting me on my weight loss at work this week - it seemed that there was no one mentioning it at all, and now every day this week I have had people come up to me and say/ask things like: "what is your big secret?", "you look amazing", "you're a skinny minny" etc. It hasn't been anything that I have taken offence to at all, but it has come during a week where I have felt so down about my appearance. I'd say this is the first time post-surgery where I have been looking in the mirror and just seen the 'old' me - I genuinely cannot see any loss, even though the scales & my clothes are telling me different. It is so saddening, normal, but sad. Anyway, that is my little reflection done with! What sorts of things did others do to get past this?

Yea I’m just now 8 weeks out and my back is already starting to hurt too. Part of it for me is the extra activity but I know that part of it is also my body trying to readjust to being smaller. I actually told my hubby that I’m going to ask the NP if she reccomends chiro or massage or anything else. I feel like I need to do something.
  20. Thanks everyone for the replies. I do absolutely think my skeleton is adjusting itself! I can tell when I am walking that things have definitely shifted and my balance has changed. I hadn’t considered this before, but it does feel almost like my bones are adjusting themselves. I do have a check-in with my surgeon soon and will go over what I’m experiencing. We’ll see what she says. I’ve also added in a small banana into my morning routine. I think both the carbs and the potassium are helping. I was sometimes getting leg cramps, which can be a sign on dehydration or lack of potassium. I'm really good at watching my protein, but not as good at making sure I’m getting much for carbs. I’m doing better this week with it. I do think my total carbs were wayyyy too low.
  21. the aforementioned bacon as a garnish to butternut squash soup! soooooooooooo yuuuuuuummmmmm! (me and Mr. shared this, not exactly sure how much i ate of it - probably 1/3 - but i did eat all the bacon, ha 😂 !)
  22. this is actually a good point that i want to add on to. during weight loss phase, so long as your LABS are good and you FEEL good, i have the opinion that there is really no need to force yourself to eat if you just aren't feeling it. but ONLY of your labs are good! DISCLAIMER: i am NOT a medical professional and am only expressing what worked for me. feel free to take or discard anything i say! FOR BACKGROUND PURPOSES: i lost 110 lbs in 7 months to reach goal weight. i am now 6 years post op and have maintained BELOW goal weight this entire time. AND my labs have been "satisfactory" at every check up (the last one being Oct 2023...i have one coming up in a couple weeks and im going to assume it will also be uneventful cuz i feel great)

    A Sparkling New Week

@MrsFitz the body scan etc is not included free, there is a €150 charge for the administration/set up and then it is €85 every two weeks hence I only signed up for a six month agreement, to see if it is worth it longer term. That said it does include about 8 or 10 personal training sessions in the six months as well as general gym access. That main course sounds lovely, I love steak and pepper sauce though I tried it in July and it did not stay down, think the sauce I had was too creamy.

    Psych evaluation?

I have already had my Psychiatrist evaluation and the ok letter plus 3 others, I had to get. My first visit to my new psychiatrist was my one he used to okay me! We started at the beginning since he was new. We didn’t really cover a lot about the surgery but I did tell him about it in the beginning. I’ve been depressed, anxiety and grief since 2005. But no problem getting letter! Actually that’s when my weight gain started with behavioral meds.

    Psych evaluation?

Absolutely. I had the sleeve four years ago and now the revision and you definitely want to make sure that you’re in a good place with your mental health because it takes just as much mental energy as it does physical to deal with all the changes you will be going through. It’s like a whole new lifestyle post surgery if you’re doing it right. They are really great changes, but it is still alot in short time. Be honest and trust their judgment- they have done this a lot of times and they just want to make sure that you’re in the right headspace when they do it so that you can be most successful immediately post surgery to keep you safe but also long term so that you will be successful in your weight loss. One thing I did too was to ask my team if it would be okay for me to just check in with them a little more often than they typically require. They agreed to that and it has made the process a lot less stressful this time. I just get super anxious about everything and medical stuff is even worse so stuff like this creates a million questions and it’s hard when you call the front desk and they don’t know about your mental health for them to not be annoyed when you call a bunch of times. This time I just go in and have a chat with the NP about all my concerns and she reassures me everything is fine and I’m on my way. Also, you will want to let your prescribing Dr know about your surgery at some point if you haven’t already. They will want to check in with you a couple of times post op because sometimes with the absorption changes in the body your medication doses may need to be adjusted a bit. And keep posting on here. There are so many people who have been through anything you may have a question or fear about or if you just want to vent about a stall. People are so wonderful here and eager to help. Staying active on here and the in person support groups has really helped me. Im excited for you. It’s a pretty incredible journey and you will get there soon enough.
