    Calorie Intake & Stalls

Rozzie ... chill, my dear. You're just experiencing the dreaded three-week stall. Happens to almost everyone. It will start moving again VERY soon. FYI, for those who love to compare, yesterday was my three-month surgiversary. I'm 5'5" (or 5'4", depending on whose ruler you believe) and 68 years old. Here are my stats: I lost 19 pounds pre-op (11 on my own and 8 on the surgeon's two-week pre-op diet). Post-op I've lost: Month 1 = 10.4 Month 2 = 11.8 Month 3 = 8.8 ... for a total of 51 pounds. I'm very, very happy.

    Discouraged. 3 weeks post op.

You are in the "three week stall". Usually lasts for a week or two. Stalls will happen regularly. It's a normal part of the process, and doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong... and there is nothing that will fix it. When your body is ready, the scale will move again. The average weight loss for the first month is 15-25lbs. So you are already there! I lost 17lbs myself.. totally normal.

    Lost to much weight?

Also I would not count on stalls to slow you down. Following the three week stall that lasted 3 weeks, I have not had any real stalls to speak of and I am now 6.5 months along. Sometimes I get a week where I lose and gain the same pound a couple of times but then all of a sudden I will drop 5 lbs making up for that week where I went back and forth. If he is saying something to you I am guessing he is concerned about how fast you are losing for many reasons.

    Stopped Lossing Lbs

Do what your dr. says and it WILL come off. There is a common "three week" stall that is so true. You will have many more stalls. Do not live by the scale. Weigh once a week, two times if you are ocd about it. Try to limit that (I'm preaching to myself ok?). But do what you are told - watch protein, get your water in, exercise whenever you dr. gives you the green light (I think not yet for you, but IDK 100% to be honest). It'll happen. Watch!

Week 3 stall & no eating much

almost everyone experiences the dreaded "three week stall" (it's not ALWAYS the third week, but sometime within the first month or so after surgery). Don't increase your calories - just stick to your food plan. It *will* break.

    April 6 Surgery - STALLED!!!

the infamous three-week stall, right on time! Almost all of us experience that - if you do a search on it on this site, you will find over 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding). Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days if you have to. It WILL break - it always does. They typically last 1-3 weeks. And just so you know, you're likely to hit a few of these along your journey. Just hold tight and stick to your plan...

WHAT am I doing wrong ?

do a search on the three-week stall on this site. Someone did one the other day and posted the results - there were like 17,000 posts on it. Happens to almost everyone. Just stick to your plan and it will break. Could take up to two or three weeks, but it WILL break as long as you stick to your plan.
  9. I hit the three weeks stall...and had been stuck for almost two weeks. Was making me crazy. Totally empathize with those hitting one. Man, it's frustrating! Got my period yesterday and lost two pounds...and woke up this morning another two and a half pounds down! Not an ounce for two weeks....then, BOOM!...four and a half pounds. The legends are true! Be consistent, be patient. Your hard work IS counting...I promise. Scale just needs a minute to catch up:)
  10. I'm so frustrated.... In the middle of the dreaded three week stall. Cash paying for the sleeve, two bites of an egg and I'm stuffed (which is fine by me) supplementing with my protein drinks. Walking at least a mile a day and I gain four pounds. I feel like I have failed at weight loss surgery and I am destined to be a fat girl

    5 weeks post op

the two week thing is the infamous "three week stall". Almost everyone experiences it. Here are the 17,501 posts on it on this site (and no, I am NOT kidding): https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall weird color poop isn't uncommon the first month or two after surgery. I think paleness usually indicates fat malabsorption, which isn't a huge surprise. I think mine was normal colored after about the first month. as for the pain thing, I'd run that by your clinic. I'm not sure what that is- could be a lot of things, I think. They might want to do a scope or something to see what's going on.

Feeling awful 6 weeks post op!

Okay. Deep breath. Exhale. 'Nother deep breath. Exhale. One more. Exhale. If you search these forums, you will find almost 20,000 posts on the infamous "three-week stall". That is exactly where you are, and sometimes it lasts a few weeks. Stay on your plan, stay OFF the friggin' scale except ONCE a week, and just be patient. The constipation is almost certainly part of the issue, though you're not eating enough to really be backing stuff up. But you can go and get an enema at any drugstore; sometimes it just "packs" and you have to break the pack. (Gross, sorry, I know, but facts.) You're also almost certainly not getting much if any fiber. It does get better. One thing you might want to try (though who knows if it'll work for you) is INCREASING your food a little bit. I know it sucks, but anything helps. Soup. Tomato soup. Cream soup. Whatever. Just increase calories to about 500-600, in concert with your nutritionist's guidance, and see if that moves things along.

    Questions

It's called the three-week stall, but it varies from person to person. I think I stalled from weeks 3-5, but I'm back to losing again. From what I hear you'll go through periods of time where you won't lose any weight, but it'll come back. Just stick with it, keep doing what you're supposed to be doing and the sleeve will take care of the rest!

3 week post op weight gain

I’m in the three week stall. 3 days now. The worst part is that I stalled at 201 so I haven’t gotten to the 1s yet : -(
  15. So I'm starting to believe that the three week stall is real. My surgery date was 6/2 and my starting weight was 398. One week post op I was 370 now I'm 360 and I know it's great but I've been stuck at 360. And suggestions and also good work out suggestions?
  16. Bufflehead

Tape measure moves, scale not so much

I see you have 70+ posts here, so you've probably seen people talking about the three week stall, correct? It is real! Don't stress out. Keep following your plan and the weight will start dropping again. I know it is frustrating and freaky but it is also completely normal. Hang in there.
  17. STOP!!! Now, take a deep breathe........ relax. You really don't have reason to panic a mere month after surgery unless you are experiencing a medical problem. You're body may still be adjusting from surgery, everyone is different, it sounds like you're doing what you're supposed to,just be patient and keep working with your surgical team. You are going through a lot of changes right now and one of them is the dreaded "three week stall" sometimes it's a week late. I think someone on here explained it one time, but it's just another physiological adjustment to your new eating regime and changes to your diet, it will pass. I would suggest taking a three month wait and see approach, if you feel that you're still struggling with old habits and feelings, start taking advantage of group sessions usually at your local bariatric hospital, or a lot more BP postings, everyone wants to help you succeed, so take advantage of the help. In the meantime relax and enjoy the ride. Good Luck! BTW- what did they tell you was the length of the "honeymoon phase"?
  18. I have two questions that are admittedly silly. Background: Had a RNY on 12/20/19. SW was 205, CW is 185, stalled for 2 weeks at 185. (I'm female, 46 yo). 1. How much protein should I be eating daily? I've asked my NUT this question, and she says I should be "doing my best" to get in protein, but that they don't give out goal numbers. How am I supposed to know what the number I should be reaching, if they won't tell me? I then asked my surgeon, and he advised me to speak with my NUT. This seems ridiculously silly, so I'll ask you all: How much protein should I be eating daily? I exercise moderately 3x/week and have a sedentary job, if that helps at all. 2. When I visited with my surgeon for my four-week checkup, he said, "You've lost pretty much all the weight you're going to lose due to the RNY. Everything you lose from this point on will have to be through exercise." OK, that sounded really strange to me. I was four weeks out at the time. RNY is a tool, which I'm working, but just because I started with a relatively low weight, it doesn't mean that there's no weight loss, right? Because that's just crazy. I track calories religiously, and I'm averaging 500 cals per day, about 50 grams of protein. I'll lose some weight just because the calorie deficit, I would think. I'll be honest, I wouldn't even be checking with everyone, but I've been in the three-week stall for two solid weeks now, it is making me a bit crazy. I'm ok with a stall, I'm not ok with this being the end of weight loss. In writing this out, I think I feel better about getting medical advice from random people on the Interwebs, instead of my surgeon's office. Sigh.

    I just want to cry

What everyone else said above. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and am currently enjoying my three week stall. Happily, I knew it was coming. Not sweating it at all. And I've lost post-op 9 pounds. So look how great you're doing. I'm not in a race with anyone.

    Losing too fast?

I was 304 day of surgery, 7/10/13. Today I am 270. I experienced the three week stall too. I hadn't lost any weight for nearly a week. I just started losing again yesterday.

A three week stall, especially at your low BMI, is not unusual. Just be patient. I remember being stalled for two months (on a different diet a few years ago)...then suddenly in one week I lost 6#!! After you get your fill you probably won't be able to eat bagels and breads anymore....I've heard a lot of people have problems with that.

    Slowing down

Search the three week stall, and you will see that this is normal. When you see 20 pounds drop off in a matter of a couple of weeks, we quickly come to expect it will continue, but most likely it won't. Our bodies will only lost so fast. It took me a bit to adjust to this, and I've gone as long as 18 days and not lost a pound, and there are people here who have gone longer. However, we are all successful because we just keep doing what we need to do - follow the rules of your program. If you do that, it eventually comes off. As soon as I came to grips with the realization that the laws of weight loss have not changed with the surgery, I spend a lot less time stressing about something I can't change. I figure if I'm doing what I am supposed to be doing, there is nothing else I can do to impact the rate of weight loss. Good luck and hang in there, just focus on eating right and getting in some exercise.
  23. You are experiencing the three week stall. Virtually everyone experiences this, including everyone who got to their goal weight. Don't believe me? Use the forum search function and search for "three week stall." Or just use Google and search for VSG three week stall. You aren't doing anything wrong, your body is not destined to be obese forever. Keep your chin up and keep working your program. I promise you, the weight will start coming off again.

3 weeks out and weight gain

Could definitely have hit the three week stall. But I'm curious how much protein are you eating a day? Should be between 60-90 grams. Your fluid intake isn't bad. My nut said you have to work up to the 64 ounces a day and she was right. Also how many calories are you eating a day? Do you journal? I HIGHLY recommend it! I do soooo much better hitting my goals when I journal. I suggest you stay away from the scale for two weeks, concentrate on getting your protein and fluids in and see how you do. I stalled at three weeks for two weeks and then i started dropping weight off rapidly. Best of luck to you! [emoji4]
