    I pooped at the hospital, day after surgery. Right now it is 2-3 days between, I am 9 weeks post op. If I hit 3 days I start taking colace or dulcolax.

    I couldn't eat fruit for the first three weeks, although I was told I could eat it after a week. I donโ€™t know how to do it correctly, but it seems that some doctors themselves donโ€™t know.

    Dumping more than eating

    I'm just shy of 2 weeks post op myself (still in puree), and I can relate. One of the things I tried to eat pureed was some oven fried chicken ground up and mixed with mayo (to make chicken salad). Good grief, did I feel like crap for the next 2 hours! I had a headache, was nauseated, and just ugh. I ended up laying down with an ice pack over my eyes for the hour and a half after I took some Tylenol and Compazine (anti-nausea). A lot of how you feel will just depend on what you eat, how much, and how fast. Your digestive is completely rearranged now, and your body just needs time to get used to the new set-up. You'll get there. Just be patient with yourself and your body. If you have questions, just ask your surgeon or your dietitian. I'm sure you can always leave a message to speak to them in between your regular post op check appointments (especially if they use myChart).
  7. so ive been sick for almost a week now, and the fact that the sight of @Arabesque's flatbread actually stirred something (positive, lol) in my stomach makes me think im finally getting better and wont die after all! so i cut myself a slice of baguette for my first foray into solid food since last week tuesday. i've literally been living off tea, orange juice and cough syrup for the past 6 days. good news: it was yummy. (kinda) bad news: this is as far as i got. p.s. and yeah, im looking a little death-ish again, like the good ol days. sigh.

    Congrats on your upcoming surgery! DS makes up less than 5% of all bariatric surgeries so we're definitely a rare breed lol. But I have found a handful of people between Reddit and Discord who had DS and were willing to chat. It's definitely not like finding RNY or VSG buddies though. I'm only eight weeks out at this point but I'm happy to help if you ever have any questions.
  9. I had gastric bypass lol Man, fish is one thing I never liked. I didn't like tuna fish for awhile after surgery(always liked it before). A couple months ago, I started liking it again. Some things I don't like anymore are tacos/nachos (those were one of my favorites!), hot dogs, last night we made homemade subs that I usually like but I just didn't care for it this time, bread type of foods are starting to bother me now. I too can only eat about 2 slices of pizza depending on how thick the crust is. If I eat more that two, I'm asking for it lol. Sometime I can eat 2.5, that's rare. I don't like a majority of the sugar free drinks(the packets). I used to like the lipton sugar free lemon iced tea, not anymore. I can't stand making my own coffee anymore and the only coffee like drink that I really like is a small iced caramel latte from Mickey D's. Better than Starbucks strangely. I ask for 2 equal, 2 cream, whipped cream and caramel drizzle. No, it doesn't make me sick or dump. If it was a medium, I would get an upset stomach tho. Its hard making meals when you don't always have real protein. My fav protein is chicken. I've been using recipes lately and they've been good. But yeah, the salad sounds good, maybe I can make a chicken salad tomorrow for lunch. I have a frozen chicken that I got from Walmart that a bariatric patien suggested and the nutrition facts are pretty good on it and it actually tastes like chic fil a but better in my opinion lol. I saw a recipe for mcgriddle muffins. Except I'm going to use my protein pancake/waffle mix for extra protein. They sound so good. Has anyone gotten sick of yogurt or protein drinks that are already made? Lol I have and that was since a few weeks after surgery. I just bought a protein powder this month and I want to start making 2 protein smoothies a day. Why does some stuff that has sugar in it not bother me but others do? I should eliminate sugar stuff and switch to sugar free instead, but hey sometimes it's better and just need it. Is there something wrong if it doesn't make me sick? Or am I just lucky? Lol I don't like that I don't get sick if I eat something with sugar ๐Ÿ˜ช Sorry this was long

    Day three I had diarrhoea - single event, dark, smelly occurred without warning. Then it was another couple of days I think. Initially I only went about every two day but if I went for three days Iโ€™d take a stool softener to keep on top of it. From purรฉes I think I added a soluble fibre. Donโ€™t be surprised if you only go every couple of days for the first couple of months & what you pass is much smaller than what youโ€™re used to. Youโ€™re not eating much to excrete. Also at the moment the strong opioid pain meds will can make you constipated too.

    Thank you for all the responses! I appreciate everyoneโ€™s advice. Itโ€™s amazing how quickly the weight can start creeping up on you. I have been watching my daily calories but have been drinking half the water i used to and decreased my exercise to only 2 days a week vs 5 Iโ€™ve also noticed that Iโ€™m feeling hungrier in the evenings and will often have late night snacks, so hopefully taking this drug and trying to follow my old post bariatric diet will help make the difference here. I was surprised that my doctor only wanted to prescribe the Topiramate since there are so many other options out there!

    I went on day 2 and it hurt like the dickens!! Then last week turns out I had a small bowel obstruction and that caused some constipation that I didnโ€™t know was happening because I thought the way I felt was supposed to be normal. Now Iโ€™m having to take Miralax 3x/day until my post op follow up appointment. Hopefully all is still good and I wonโ€™t have to keep taking stool softeners.

    about a week - and that's pretty common. There's not much in there yet. You might want to start taking stool softeners because that first one post-surgery can be a doozy.

    Regular Diet

    Sounds like you're doing just fine OP. I am almost 2 years post surgery. I have never set a timer to do anything (food or drink) but I know lots of us have benefited from that approach. I am a chugger and a gulper. I can see that this would not be good for lots of folks but it seems to have worked for me thus far. I eat what I think I'll be able to process (based on experience) and then stop. If I need more later then I will eat more. At 6 weeks I was desperately trying to meet my fluid and protein goals. Nothing else mattered. I didn't do it every day. I never timed bites - not sure that would have been in keeping with my long term goals.

    I had the same side effects listed above. It radically changed my tastebuds. But since my weight isn't from binging/overeating junk the med didn't cause weight loss. I took a pretty high dose of it for migraines for several years... I think you'd be better served by tracking your food and activity for a few weeks to see if your patterns have changed. Even a regular 300 calorie difference can result in steady weight gain. Also, some go on GLP 1 meds to help with regain but their side effect profile isn't exactly kind either... Dealing with regain can be very frustrating!! I hope you find a good solution... ๐Ÿ’š

  17. 6 weeks post op gastric bypass itโ€™s been hard and quite frustrating trying to figure out what I can & cannot eat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Iโ€™m on soft food stage & yet everything I tried is a no-no for me bc of dumping; although it seems to me Iโ€™m doing more dumping than anything! Help!

    Regular Diet

    Thank you both for the great info. I'm still taking things really slow (I had issues at the 3 week mark and had to get IV fluids). I'm still struggling on getting my proteins and water but it's slowly getting better. I just want to make sure I'm doing things correctly. I see my doctor this week for my 6 wk post-op so I'm sure they'll have some additional info for me.
  19. @BlondePatriotinCDA, oh how I wish it was muscle! It's fat.... It's crappy diet and laziness - hence the reason I'm back to the forum for accountability. I haven't posted in about a year and funny that this was at the top of the rants and raves. Thank you for the response and personally for me, the reality check. I'm up about 5lbs (consistently over weeks), so I definitely know it's not hormones and I KNOW I have to get back to basics. So what do we do in these situations? Log in regularly, track what you eat (so you can't rationalize poor diet), and look at pictures of yourself when you were obese. I NEVER want to go back to painful joints, embarassing pictures, and not being able to buy clothing from pretty much anywhere I wanted (Oh, and I spent a fortune on new clothes so I don't want to go through that either!). Thanks to all here for being a sounding board and reminding me of WHY.

    Do you feel your restriction yet ? This is my account after the restriction. I did not get to real foods for 12 weeks and I really struggled with meat protein. Depending on what the food was - yogurt, I would not wait anything like a minute. I took tiny spoonful's. With other foods especially warm foods I would eat the few small bites I could and when the food was cold I would put my food away and come back to it later. I hated to eat food that had gone really cold waiting for me to eat. My surgery was in winter and I was frozen to my bones. A lot of the time my food went into the bin because I had eaten enough
  21. I'm almost to 6 weeks post-op (yay me) and I am now on a regular diet. Now that I'm starting regular foods, I would like to know how long one should wait to take another bite? Do you set a timer? Is there a feeling you get? Any tips or tricks would be helpful. Thanks ๐Ÿ˜Š

    i actually had the extensions removed a couple weeks ago because i went on vacation...apparently chlorine and salt water don't play well with extensions! so now im au natural and i probably won't put them back in unless i have an event or something p.s. there seems to be no damage to my original hair throughout the process so its all good ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

    October 2023 surgery buddies

    Hi!! I'm new to the group and looking forward to any and all information and/or tips anyone is willing to share. I had my consultation with my Dr July 11th, completed my visits,etc. Let me tell you all this, AETNA is not playing! My case was submitted for authorization on the 12th. Authorization was granted the 13th; less than 24hr turnaround. Color me shocked! I start my 2 week pre-op diet Monday and surgery is scheduled for the 30th. I put this off for YEARS. Always put others ahead of myself. Now? I honestly don't know how to act. So happy I found this group.
  24. So frustrating. It's less than 4 months since your revision though - this could be a long stall as opposed to the end of your losses. I hope you start losing again soon. You've done so well, you're an inspiration.
  25. Oh I meant to say - @Arabesque is, as usual, spot on about stalls. They come and they go and they are SUPER ANNOYING. People swear by all sorts of tricks to break them like switching exercise regimes or eating more or fewer calories/protein, etc. but I don't really think they make any difference. Also - I am really nosy too so hope some other folks share their typical daily diet!
