Sooooooooo... Yea. If you're squeamish, you may want to skip this entry. I'm going to keep it as clean as possible because I don't want this entry deleted, I think it's important to talk about. Anyway, so I'm starting to notice the weight loss on my body parts. My thighs are sagging, my face, my breasts... All heading downhill. But I knew sagging would happen, so I really didn't stress about it. Well last night in the shower, I noticed something else sagging...... My vaggy! What? What's this? Is that all me? I decided to investigate further once I was out. Got a mirror, locked my door, turned the lights on bright. I took a good look. I Definitly noticed some changes. First of all, i noticed stretch marks! Who knew you could get stretch marks from losing weight down there?! They were on the side and towards the back..Ugh. Wonder if I should try rubbing Merderma or Palmer's Cocoa Butter on it.......?? Umm. Nah. I better not. And do you know how it looks to blow up a raft, balloon, etc., with air? Well that's how it used to look. Now deflate that balloon, raft, etc. That's how it looks now... Wonder if I can get Botox there?? Nah. Sounds painful. Guess ill just have to live with this saggy vaggy. I wonder if any other WLS female patients have noticed sagging in well.. Unusual areas. Nah. Probably just me.

Why don't you just do the one session before your surgery? There is some valuable information that you can get that will help you get started. Just because they want you to have therapy doesn't mean your crazy. It just means that you need some new coping skills to get through the hurdle. It's an all win situation! No losses, just wins all the way around!

Hair loss happens, call it an unfortunate side effect. It will grow back. Hair is protein, when you are losing large amounts of weight in the beginning or your protein intake is not up to what it should be something will suffer and unfortunately it is your hair. You do not always see this as much with lapband as you do the other WLS procedures but it does happen. I took this for about a year after surgery and started taking at about 6 months and it made a big difference that even my hair dresser noticed. I liked the chewable biotin from GNC. Zinc is another mineral that can help. My best advice is talk to your doctor and ask him for some assistance, on things to try, I strongly believe in keeping in touch with my WLS surgeon he has been a great resource for me and has helped me stay focused.

Thank God I am not the only one having this problem. I have been losing a large amount of hair and it has really scared me. I was thinking it was because my protein intake wasn't where it should be so I have been working diligently to get in the required protein intake but no one ever told be about take biotin. I take Vitamin C and a multivitamin daily (faithfully). I have an appt with my WLS on 5/30 and will be talking with her about my hair loss and if biotin is the right thing for me to take.

Your weight loss is going to be faster right after you are banded. I had my first fill after several years May 24th and went to the doc today. They did not give me a fill and I am at 7cc in my band. I dropped 12 lbs and they were very happy with that number, they are happy with a lb a week. So keep that in mind and do not get disappointed if you do not hit that same weight loss that you had initially. The higher weight you are then you will initially lose faster, then it usually will slow down. Ideal is 1-2 lbs a week, but you will see a difference in clothing/inches etc... Congrats on the 22lbs that is awesome!!

I wish I was as disciplined to keep such great food records!!! And from your weight loss, it is clearly working for you. How do you log your food? MyFitnessPal or some other app?

I am 9 weeks post op and I am down 34 lbs. SD was 12-7-12 and I weighed 283 today 249. I feel great knowing that being that I am losing!!! I am sure I am not getting ALL daily protein in but its still a work in progress. For the past month I have worked out 5 days/week. Is this an average weight loss or should I have lost more? I guess I am feeling a bit like my progress is slow and I am not going to be where I want to be by the time 6 months get here in this rapid WL phase.

Calories And Protein
RickM replied to Readytolose2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is a good explanation of what's going on with these stalls - http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html You are probably doing OK on calories, though the most popular plan is for 600-800 calories, and being a relative lightweight, you can probably afford a few more calories if they come your way (but it's probably not worth getting too worried about it at this point - more calories will come your way as you progress up the food chain. Hydration (water - sip, sip, sip) and Protein are your biggest concerns at this point. -
The health club is having an eight week challange for excersize and weight loss. I signed up. Me, standing in line to be measured with all the health club folks (who all seemed to be in good shape...) I found out that I am 88 lbs of just fat. Yuk. It will be hard to get moving, but I need to do this.

Am I losing too fast too soon?
jess9395 replied to sylvia2017's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You really need to work on getting your protein count up. You will lose muscle mass quickly at only 20-30 grams and toh don't want to do that. I lost weight quickly as well too. As long as you take your vitamins and keep your protein count higher (what's your surgeons goal?) to preserve muscle mass, I wouldn't worry about the quick loss -
I am so proud of myself. I feel great, soreness is gone, no pain meds since the day of surgery, walking 30 minutes a day and the BEST PART ,I have lost 21#'s since starting my pre-op diet and surgery. I can not get over how well I feel and about the weight loss. I had my surgery a week ago tomorrow and it is truly the best thing I have ever done for myself. I no longer crave crazy food and even though I'm still on liquids only, I think before I put anything in my mouth now. I hope it keeps coming off like it is now. :rolleyes2:

My surgeon required a 10% weight loss also so we didn't have to do a 2 week liquid diet. We just had to do one day of full liquids and one day of clear liquids before surgery.

I had my second fill on Sept. 16 and it seems since then I have been having some hair loss. I noticed this the day after I had the fill. When I wash my hair in the morning, seems like I have a lot of hair on my hands. I am getting a little concerned. I'm wondering if this is from the fill or just coincidental? Has this happened to anyone else?

I Have Now Changed Insur To Health Net
Alexandra replied to SQBEAR37's topic in Insurance & Financing
SQBear, every plan is different so no one can give you any specific advice. I do know that HealthNet is band-friendly, so if you qualify medically and your doctor recommends this surgery for you there is definitely a history of HealthNet covering it. Start with your PCP and discuss your weight and weightloss attempts with her. Establish your history of obesity in her records and (if you don't already have it) get a firm diagnosis of "morbid obesity." Contact your carrier and have them send you their diagnosis and qualification criteria for weight loss surgery. Once you know what Healthnet requires, you'll know what your next step is. Good luck!! -
Hello all, I have been a lurker for a long time. I have been researching the lap band procedure for many months and have decided that this is the route I need to go. I come from a family of very overweight people that have never successfully lost weight for good. I have dieted since I was 18, every diet under the sun, only to gain it all back and more. I am going to be self-pay and have a BMI of 33. The problem is I live in Central New York and cannot find anyone that will even talk with me. Both because I will not be using insurance and because of my low BMI. I am so jealous of those of you that live near a "band friendly" surgeon. I am at a loss. I really don't want to travel far for the procedure, mostly because I want to have somewhere local if I have a complication or need a fill. Any advice? Thanks, Laura

My teeth...weird I know
tanqueray replied to cmcafee35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gotta love the internet. You can find any answers there. http://ezinearticles.com/?Bad-Breath---How-to-Lose-Weight-Without-Getting-Bad-Breath&id=925480 Many people in the past few years have found great weight loss success by following the low-carb, high-Protein diet plans such as Atkins, South Beach, and many more. There is a lot of scientific basis for this- carbs break down as sugar in your system and are often stored as excess fat. However, these plans left people wondering how to lose weight without getting bad breath, since this seemed to be a common side effect of these programs. To really understand how to lose weight without getting bad breath, you need to understand what is happening on these diet programs to cause it in the first place. When the body has excessive protein in the system, it finds it very hard to break down and digest. This is actually one of the reasons that these high-protein plans worked- the body feels fuller longer when eating protein because it's working harder to digest it. Breaking down this protein is one of the reasons that there is usually bad breath, as the digestive system is often reflected in the breath. Think of when you eat onions or garlic- can you not tell that on your breath for hours afterward? However, just knowing that this is what is happening does not tell you how to lose weight without getting bad breath! Let's explore that a bit further. If you are following a high-protein diet, there may not be much you can actually do to stop that chemical process from happening and from being reflected in your breath. However, in order to consider how to lose weight without getting bad breath, you may consider some steps you can take to help eliminate the resultant odor. Many people have found that chewing peppermint leaves and parsley help to cut down on the odor coming from their mouths during digestion. Making sure you get plenty of Water also helps, as this aids in digestion and keeps your mouth moist. Another key in how to lose weight without getting this is to take care of your oral hygiene. Make sure you are flossing to get the food particles out from between your teeth, and rinse well with a good mouthwash. Keep some gum on hand at all times. You can learn how to lose weight without getting bad breath, if you are willing to take these few extra steps to take care of your mouth along the way. -

When Does The Weight Loss "begin"?
Sharonisshrinking posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Okay, so maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but I was sleeved one week ago tomorrow. Apart from losing the four pounds I gained in the hospital, I have lost......wait for it........1POUND! Am I doing this wrong? I'm working hard on my protein and staying hydrated. I'm walking 15 to 20 minutes a day. Help! I lost 50 pre op. but only one pound post. -
Ok so I said I would not buy a scale this time around because I didn't want to become addicted like I did in the past when I had tried another weight loss method that made me lose weight. But now I'm having 2nd thoughts.
-
I do the same. I am not on a 'diet' as such - I wanted the band so I could get away from obsessing about diets. But while I am still a 'newbie' I have been watching my calories and try to keep it around 1000 - 1200. This also helps to tell me if I need more fill. Don't obsess about the weight loss it will come once you start getting your fills - just use the time till then to heal and experiment.

Peanut Butter almost 2weeks Post OP
GreenTealael replied to BecomingAnna's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Ask your Team. But, in the early days post op *perhaps* focus on a maintaining a caloric deficit to maximize weight loss. Peanut Butter is very calorically dense. Most tend to eat more that a single serving because its usually not weighed or measured accurately. If at 2 weeks post op you should be consuming ~600 cals (confirm amount with your Team), peanut butter will be 1/6 -1/3 your intake for the day. Good Luck ❤ -
Horrible taste
AZDesertRose76 replied to AuntieLala83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Colds can definitely hose up your senses of taste and smell. I haven't noticed this yet myself, but a lot of the people in my bariatric support group have mentioned their tastes in food changing after surgery, so that might also be a culprit. Is it a metallic taste in your mouth? That could be a result of being in ketosis, which is generally good for weight loss but does leave a funky taste in one's mouth. I hope you get over the cold soon. Best wishes! -
Diet Pills and Protein
neenee717 replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok me personally I think its ridiculous! I used to take adipex and when your off it you eat like a maniac, it has potential to raise your blood pressure, mess with heart etc. I figure why bother with lap band if your gonna mess with that stuff, which only can be taken short term because of the risks. Im so glad my surgeon didnt play that. Hence I had to be in 6 month pre op program and managing on my own. You dont get restriction right away. I was banded on 9/16/10 and getting scheduled for my 3rd fill this month. I can eat whatever without restriction. I have my bad days where I fall off wagon and eat too much, but then I have to reel it in. Doc says you usually dont get good restriction until after several fills. Anyway didnt mean to be crude or sound so harsh, I just feel so strongly about taking weight loss meds and them not being successful
