NSV - Crossing my legs!
built2livenotexist replied to audefacere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Me too! It happened for the first time on Friday while I was in my therapists office. I looked down and said, " Hey, I'm crossing my legs!" Then I started bawling. I hadn't crossed my legs in....I don't even know how long. This was the best NSV yet. -
And it didn't take an amazing amount of effort to swing my leg over my other. It didn't feel like my legs were going numb for holding them in that position. It was amazing and made me feel like such a "normal" woman.

I have 16 more days til my VSG in Mexico with Dr. Elias Ortiz. I am beyond excited! I took some time today to really dig deep and think of some non-scale victories. I think they are so beneficial because for my this journey is more than the number on the scale. Its about how I want to feel and the woman I want to be again. Im 31 yrs old and I feel as though I have lost years of my life yoyo dieting. I think a list of NSV's if not only motivating while losing but especially when maintaining so I can remind myself why i dont wanna go backwards. I had a coworker tell me that I dont need to have the surgery and I was highly offended. She is much smaller than me and has never battled with her weight. She does not know my stryggle and will never understand. Anywho... such is life... I'm sharing mine and I would love to read yours. -
I'm three days post op and have been a type II Diabetic for 10 plus years. I've been medicated on and off with Insulin, Glucophage, and Diabeta at different intervals during that time having been on Glucophage only these last several years. Uncontrolled type two diabetes has brought me cataracts in both eyes and other health related issues. My surgeon had me discontinue meds after surgery. As of yesterday, my glucose numbers are completely normal and Dr. says they should stay this way. I am both amazed and awed at the turn around the sleeve has brought me already.

I love all of the "little details " that can mean so much to each individual. I still have a ways to go ,but am feeling so much better overall. I'm thankful for my health and being able to chase after my 2year old. I went out for my sister's bday last night and was told by her friend that I looked "timeless....just like you did in high school!!!! " I also wore a fitted size 16 that still had some room in it!! I am thankful to be able to share these little things with people who actually "get" what it is like to go through these little obstacles that overtime we accept as being normal. I sat down with my husband in that fitted dress and didn't feel the need to get a pillow and cover my stomach! Big plus right there buddy!! Ready for my next NSV!! -
NSV for a newbie WOOHOO!
CheleLynn45 replied to LaLoLaughs's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
One NSV I have had, keeping with the car theme........... I hate pumping gas so much. I am very lucky that my hubby usually will do it for me. But for those times when he isn't around and I have to do it I have to get out of the car to reach the release for gas door. Well the other day my daughter who recently got her permit offered to fill my tank for me. She went around towards the pump and instead of asking her to hit the release for the gas tank I just reached down and did it. Afterwards I stopped and said to myself, "I just was able to reach down and release my gas tank!!" I know it is a simple thing but to me it was huge!! It has only been 4 weeks since my surgery and I have had a ton of these moments. I can't wait to see what other NSV's I have along the way as I lose more weight!! -
Saturday my hubby took me to Breakfast at a market we work at every Saturday. We are vendors there and so once a year we get a free breakfast. I ordered bacon and pancakes. He ordered a breakfast burrito. As my hubby got up to get coffee and tea out food was being set before me. the lady who delivered it said this is a lot of food for such a little thing like yourself. she then smiled and walked away. I stared in disbelief because I still see myself most times as fat. oops. when my hubby came over I told him what she said and he smiled and said you are tiny. I looked at him and then stared at the woman who had said it. Then it dawned on me that I recognized her from somewhere but could not put my finger on it....Then I broke down crying. It just happened. I remembered her. she was one of my favorite nurses who looked after me when I finally came home from the hospital. I called her over and asked if she remembered me and was she still a nurse. She said no she did not know me and yes she worked part time as a nurse. I told her who I was and of course it was not hard to place me as I was the only patient who had a category 5 bed sore. She stood there and clasp her hand over her mouth and said OMG I would have never known it was you. I told her how much I liked her and how much I appreciated her honesty with my health and that she meant a lot to me. She came over and hugged me hard and thanked me for the compliment. I turned to my hubby and repeated what she said and she said yup. It's true I did say that. We laughed and she asked me to remind her husband that she was a gem....We laughed and she went back to work serving. After breakfast I got up to get my coat on and a lady behind me asked me how I was doing. I said fine. Do we know each other? She said you don't know me then? I said no. She said I worked at the drug store but no longer do. I have been wondering how you are doing. You were so sick. We thought you were not going to make it. I said me either and I laughed. She told me I looked amazing and so healthy and she was so pleased to see that. I thanked her for remembering me and for the kind words. My day was wonderful yesterday. All this hard work and trouble has been so worth it. I face surgery ( repair work on my butt from the bed sore ) on Thursday and no longer feel bad or fearful. I am going forward not backward and these people helped me see that.... Sorry for being long winded but it was an amazing feeling for people to say such lovely things.....

A huge NSV for me this weekend... I went to the southern womens show yesterday with my sisters just like I do every year but this time I was able to walk through the turn style to get in instead of walking around it. I was so excited and thrilled!!!????????????

What was your most recent NSV? (non-scale victory)
tamg26k replied to tamg26k's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know I already posted today but today is a 2 NSV day! I ordered a sweater in XL (in July it was either 2xl or 3xl). The victory is that the XL was too big! I had to exchange it for a large! This is the first time I purchased clothing from not from the plus size department! It felt really good to make the purchase!! -
I recently noticed that my workouts have been getting just a bit easier. So, I downloaded the c25k app to use on the treadmill. I tried it for the first time today. I made it halfway through the first workout, so a minute of jogging, followed by 90 seconds of brisk walking, repeated 5 times. Sure, I was "supposed" to do it 10 times, but for someone who couldn't jog all 6 weeks ago, I'll take it!

Great story! My holiday NSV was today I was able to donate 3 full bags of clothing to Goodwill (about 60 pieces) because nothing fit! It feels really good to donate!

This is why I did WLS. My daughter hasn't seen me since August, which was one pre-op diet and one VSG ago. I went into the airport to pick her up today, rather then just picking her up at the curb. I wanted her to see the results as a surprise so I stood back when she came out. She looked my way several times and started to walk away. At that point I started to walk toward her. We made eye contact and her eyes just got bigger and all she could say was "wow!" She said she her brain was in conflict. She thought it looked like me, but it just looked wrong. As we walked to the car I asked her how she felt. She said you look like a normal weight person but with a little more meat on your bones. I said that meat would be going as well. She asked, "Are you going to lose more?" Ha! I told her I wasn't even half way there. She admitted she was nervous to see me because she was afraid I would be different. Interesting to hear that from her perspective, but so far she can see I'm the same inside. I can't wait for the next stretch of three months in the Spring where she won't see me! So my holiday has officially begun. I don't need pumpkin pie with a NSV like this.

August post op sleevers: Check in
FLGrammy replied to motherof5's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Officially down 55 this week on the Dr'S scale! Had a consult for colon resection for the diverticulitis, going to go forward with this as soon as we can. Also had a NSV yesterday! DH is taking me on a cruise so I don't have to cook for thanksgiving. Panicked about packing so started closet shopping last night. Don't know what I was worried about, there was plenty of clothes in the very far corners that according to DH looked great. Even packed two dresses for formal nights, size 14! -

How long can you wear your pants?
NewLife'sGr8 replied to jnevr480's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My pants last longer than they should. For example, taking my HUGE (125lb), super strong, 18 month-old puppy to vet for post-op visit, she decided she wanted to walk around outside rather than wait in waiting room- and so it was. Rainy, cold with a dusting of snow, she pulled me around where she wanted to go- and as she did, my jeans fell lower... and lower.. and lower... so I had the leash in my right hand, and a belly-sling huffed up over my left shoulder with my overstuffed purse, and tried to direct her in the direction "I" wanted her to go in (cooped up for two weeks, she just wanted to run all over the place! Thankfully, I had a mid-thigh sweater on, but my pants were drooping like those "pants on the ground" pants some of young guys like to wear (no clue why!) so there I am, trying to huff my pants up - while being yarned around- overladed with massive pup-on-leash, too-big purse & belly sling- in the cold rain. I'm sure I looked like a hot mess. when we got back to over by my car- I tried to 'discretely' hike them up to an acceptable level - got one side up & the other side drooped. Back & forth... Then, I noticed the receptionist looking at me out the window with an odd, "What the FK is she doing out there???" look on her face. so when I finally got back inside, I chimed for the whole world to hear, "OMG! My pants were falling down the whole time! I kept trying to pull them up, but they kept falling down!" which made everyone chuckle & diverted embarrassment (for the most part) with comedy. A NSV- of sorts. take-home: I need a belt! -

Counting on NSV's this month as I am not having any scale ones. I am noticing people looking at me wondering what the change is. Even asked by an old boyfriend why I look younger every time he sees me. Haha -

Just had a NSV today. Only 4 weeks post op. Went to Dress Barn and automatically went to the plus side of the store. The sales lady came over to me and said that I am on the wrong side of the store, the misses sizes are on the other side of the store. I just about cried. I had never even thought to try on misses sizes. It's been 25 years, at least, since I've been able to wear a misses size. On cloud 9 today -
YAY you!!!!! What an awesome NSV!!!
