    Not losing pre surgery

If you gain, they won't do it. I know some will say you can't gain, some 10% weight loss, but no matter what, any weight gain on the period before, no one will do it. I'm sorry.

    Buddy

Hey, I too am looking for a buddy. I was banded in 2005. I had been diagnosed with Addison's disease and was put on two different steroids and have gained weight back. People keep telling me that it was not my fault that I was gaining weight because it was the steroids. I started to become upset because of the weight gain and then started to make horrible food choices and stopped exercising. I told myself that it was because I am sick. I have gained around 50 pounds in the last three years. I have decided I need to go back to the basics with my lap band. My habits are up and down and so is my weight. I still have restriction so I know it works I too am very discouraged and determined to get back on track. I use my fitness pal to log all foods, Water and exercise. My name on my fitness pal is DaisyRN look me up and friend me, it is an awesome site. Good luck and message me whenever you need support. Good Luck!!!
  3. Hello- I am new to this site (well I have come through and read others stories so not really). I have struggled ALL my life with my weight. I have tried EVERYTHING, and the weight will come off, but some how end up right back on if not more so. I have become so discouraged that I have all but given up. For the last 3.5 years I have been absolutely miserable, clothes dont fit, I have decreased energy, I am sweaty, and now seem to snore ALL the time ( I NEVER snore). I attribute this to the increase in meat on my bones. It's funny because people who don't have weight issues can ALWAYS provide you with "easy" answers. LOL I don't want to go anywhere because I don't feel good about my appearance. Being smaller doesnt solve all of life's problems (this I know), but it sure as hell makes life a "little" more easier not to mention enjoyable. I have made a concious decision to have this surgery to take back my life. I am scheduled to have it 4/20, in Mexico, but have questions. Anyone have it done at Jerusalim Hospital? How was your treatment? Recovery? Any words of wisdom anyone can offer I would be ETERNALLY gratefull. I don't have much support from my family members who seem to think I am taking the "easy" way out. Or who think my weight gain isnt that bad. I am 5'4" and weigh a good 270ish-I stopped getting on the scale cuz it was damn depressing. More than anything else I need words of encouragement as I am not getting that at home.
  4. Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and I wanted to share with you all my gastric bypass journey thus far. I've pretty much been overweight since my two pregnancies. And it wasn't until I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia that the weight really started to pour on and life became a constant battle. I was on 5 different medications, which really didn't help with the weight gain. After about 3 years of medication increases, I decided enough was enough! I began researching Gastric Bypass on the internet. I had the support of my family and friends and my rheumatologist. I sought out a doctor in Montreal and this is where my journey began. I'm 5'1" and weighed 245 lbs. It was the first time I was told I was considered morbidly obese. I cried right there and then. Nobody wants to hear those words. I said "OK" let's get me healthy again...for my children but most importantly, myself. My surgery was booked on June 25th, 2015. That is the day that is tattooed on my wrist...the day my life changed...for the better. I did have post-op complications which turned out to be apparently life threatening. The doctor had accidentally put one stitch too many which closed off the intestine. What happens is that I couldn't keep anything down and was vomiting profusely... But the worst part was that all the (excuse the wording) shit that was supposed to be coming out down there was coming up through my mouth...I know...gross! Anywho, long story short...I was really ill and from all the constant vomiting, I developed 2 giant hernias. Second surgery July 9th, with a full on large incision right down my belly. Problem solved! Other than a few pains here and there and constant nausea, I am 10 months post-op and I've lost 102 lbs! I started in a size 22 pants and I am now in a size 8! I am currently on the waiting list for plastic surgery. I've gone from 5 different fibro meds to only 1! I'm healthier and happier. Life has new meaning for me. I was given a second chance and will forever be greatful, complications and all. Totally worth it in the end. Zero regrets! Happy to share with you all! 5. Hi! I am 12 days post op my sleeve to bypass. I feel great now and the recovery was good. I was a lucky one whom experienced no gas pains. i can’t tell you about eating though because my doc has me on a 3 week liquid diet lost op. I had my revision due to weight gain, no restriction & GERD. It seems like these revisions are becoming more frequent

    Any Regrets?

I am new to the group and have been thinking about the Band for quite awhile. I realize at this point in my life I'm not able to lose the weight like I used to. I have had two major knee reconstrcuts and I can't exercise like I used to, hence lot's of weight gain. My brother has had the surgery and I see the good as well as some of the bad with his experience. I'm sure like most of you I'm having thoughts about failure (If I have to resort to something this drastic then I must be a failure), how this will effect my life (both good and bad). So lot's going on inside my head. But I also know that if I don't get this weight off I will be much worse off. So My question to you all that have had this are what are your regrets, would you do it again or try other means to get to your weight loss goals? My wife and I are going to an info seminar Monday so I'm sure that will answer alot of my other questions. Hopefully $$$ won't be an issue, I am on TRICARE as I'm retired military, and I know they now cover this surgery. Thanks in advance for the info. D:thumbup:
  7. Sorry to hear this! I am 14 days post-op and am getting in all of my Vitamins, fluids, and Protein plus walking (not at the gym yet--hoping to start that after my post-op appt today). I gained 18 lbs of Fluid in the hospital and took it off within a few days, and within a few more days I lost about 10 lbs. Now for at least 5 days, the scale hasn't moved. I am being patient with my body because I figure it's trying to get to an equilibrium. If I recall correctly, I think you lost a lot immediately post-op, so maybe your body is catching up, too? When you were in the hospital (sorry to hear this--glad you are okay), did they give you IV fluids by any chance? That could cause some temporary fluid gain. Also, anytime your body has an inflammatory response, it can cause some temporary weight gain too. I am quickly learning that patience is a virtue but it's so much easier said than done! Good luck!! Let's stay in touch since our surgery dates are so similar. Sending you good thoughts!!
  8. I would say to her: you cannot judge someone's situation unless you've been it. She has never been fat, never had the diet you grew up on, food addiction, stressors, contributory mental & health problems, faced the negative social situations we've all been in, etc. Try to understand that the majority of people are (ie Facebook b***h/neighbor) uneducated & lack empathy. At least fat people take the time to develop likeable personalities. I think that criticism from others is a huge factor in weight gain & trouble losing. Stay strong!!! then slash her tires& steal her husband.

    Having Band Removed Insurance question.

Dr. Schweitzer is MY doctor, and he SOO rocks. You have got the best. He did my Lap Band in 2002, I had scar tissue that blocked the tubing and rendered the band useless. Throughout a pregnancy and a short period of time afterward, I regained much of the original 110 (give or take) that I had lost. He gave me the choice of scraping out the scar tissue and starting again. (I feel for you here, because it is devastating beyond devastating to lose it and then regain it) I requested a DS (Duodenal Switch). He was ok with that since my bmi was back up to 40something. Honestly, I think if I hadn't had the problem with the scar tissue that I still wouldn't have been, long term, successful with my band. I am totally an addict, I have never been successful with a diet, and for real, I had to diet with the band, especially after I lost that large portion of weight in the beginning. (Some people may disagree with me, but this was MY experience, and mine alone) The bottom line is for me, I NEED the malabsorption. The DS also removes part of the stomach where the "hunger hormone" Ghrelin (sp?) is produced. This has done alot for me. A restrictive proceedure, which is what the band and the sleeve are, just did not suit my needs. I couldn't eat hardly anything, especially anything that could be considered healthy such as chicken, vegtables and fruit unless it was slathered in sauce (lube!). I was miserable. This is how it went. I gained weight because I ate soft foods because I had a fill we couldn't get out. The soft foods caused more weight gain, which caused the band to be tighter, which caused more soft foods.....you see what I mean? I had UHC, and they approved it without any problems at all. The removal and revision, I mean. Who is your insurance company? I know my primary care doctor had to write a letter recommending the removal, maybe that is what your insurance company means? I had my primary care doctor fax a copy of the letter to Debbie, who was handling all of Dr. Schweitzers stuff, and she faxed them all in together.
  10. I am 52 days post op and generally have not been weighing myself daily, but started weighing myself every couple of days. I am up two pounds. I have been exercising in the pool daily for up to an hour, have been meeting my Protein requirements and fluids. This is so frustrating!

    Weight Gain

If you are eating carbs again and you weren't before you unfill (like I was) that could also contribute to a crazy fast weight gain. It should even out though! (at least it did for me)

    No weight loss first week???

You will gain after surgery. The weight gain is from the IV and gas during surgery. I gained about 8lbs and loss it within 1.5 weeks. I was pre warned of this before surgery so it wasn't a surprise to me. Hang in there, the weight will drop.
  13. I'm 2 weeks out and I lost in the beginning but I am gaining now. I hid my scale because I was obsessing but this morning I got it back out and I have gained 2lbs. I don't have a fill until April 17th but I have been following the dr's orders very closely. I've never been able to lose weight and I'm freaking out this is not going to work HELP
  14. Hi All, I am considering a revsision from a lap band to a sleeve. I've gained all my 150-lbs. back from my initial weight loss. I realize there is a forum just for band-to-sleeve but I'd like to hear from people who've had their sleeve many years. I am concerned I will gain my weight back just like I always do. And then I'll be with most of my stomach gone. I am also afraid of constant nausea, diarrhea, etc. complications. I know there can always be problems. I worry because this is a no-going-back procedure. I've had problems with my lapband and it is unfilled, but now I have this option of getting it removed and trying something else. With permanent removal of part of my stomach, there's no revision to turn to. I guess bypass would be an option. So scared of that. Any replies appreciated.
  15. So I GAINED 10 pounds on my 6 month diet. I was close to the BMI limit and couldn't have lost and still qualified. Plus I had recently been prescribed a statin med that exacerbated weight gain. BCBS of KC approved me in 10 days. It's NOT impossible. I did manage to take off the 10 required plus interest for the doc's required liver shrink the month before surgery once they'd taken me off the statin in prep for surgery. His office staff (one in particular) was AWFUL but Doc was AWESOME! I can say I was completely honest about the good and the bad when it came to survey time!
  16. That sucks... I have bipolar disorder and I gained 100 lbs in two years when I first started on meds when I was 14. Most of the bipolar meds cause weight gain. It's going to be hard for your doc to find one that doesn't! And insurance is always looking for a way to deny coverage anyway (seriously - I studied this in graduate school). I would wait until your meds are stable before trying again. Once you've been on a particular medication for a while your weight gain usually stops as long as you focus really hard. Plus, you want your mental health to be really stable before undergoing this process. I was told I had to get my psychiatrist to approve me since I have bipolar. I hope it works for you!
  17. Did you speak to the dr that put you in the medication? Is a common side effect of that medication weight gain? that really sucks and it’s very disheartening. I would definitely appeal that decision
  18. It's much less, unfortunately. Even the new obesity drugs don't work once you stop taking them. https://www.cuimc.columbia.edu/news/complicated-reality-weight-gain-weight-loss-and-weight-stigma
  19. I mean, we know why people can't keep their losses off. It's not an individual failure, we're built for weight gain. But otherwise, I agree.

    Weight Gain

I am frustrated this morning. I have gained pound. I know, I know, no big deal; it is just one. However, I have been struggling for months loosing and gaining the same 5 lbs. I had gotten away from working out everyday and have started up again....walking 1.5 miles at lunch and then either yoga or some other workout in the evening. Why am I gaining when I am working it? My eating is not perfect, but I am still eating little amounts an not too much sugar. Any thoughts? Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App
  21. Okay, so my name is Kamie and I am in Tucson, AZ. I live with my boyfriend of four years and my younger sister. I have been overweight for about as long as I can remember, but I gained about 80% of my unwanted weight during the last 4 years of college. I am now at 265lbs which is actually about 20lbs less than what I thought from awhile ago. Since I am only 5'2'' this puts me at a very high BMI number of 46.8! That is really scary to me and has led me to the option of Lap Band Surgery. I have tried and tried at everything I can think of. I have done weight watchers, weight watchers online, personal training, nutritionist, the 4-day diet, LA weightloss. I usually lose substantial weight and then I miss a meeting or a payment or I overeat...you know how it goes. The things that have brought me to this crucial moment are recent changes based on my weight gain. I can't shop at regular stores anymore...I hate shopping online and don't find clothes that fit my style at the "plus size" stores. I wear out my bras and underwear more quickly than ever. I am having trouble being active at all anymore. I am usually tired. I feel left out of society. My dad just recently had a heart scare at the age of 51. Needless today I am ready for a change. I want to be healthy and find a better way of life. More than anything in the world I want to stop my osession and constant thought of food. I know that the Lap Band is only a tool here and I hope to find others along the way. Well, I have my consultation with the surgeon on Monday, so 4 more days. I will keep you posted!
  22. Yeah we have all been there and it is hard. My doctor told me not to worry too much about trying to lose until I had my fills, but I wanted so bad not to gain what I lost. So what I did was increase my consumption of veggies that basically have no calories or very few, this kept me satisfied longer and did not cause weight gain. It does get better, but it is a tough time between surgery and fills...
  23. I did a 6 month "diet plan" which really wasn't a plan at all. Me and my dr just talked about my weight gain/loss once every month. I ended up gaining the last month and was told that I wouldn't get approved through tricare if I didn't weigh less at the end. So I did another month and sent all my paperwork in. Got denied due to not sending all necessary documents (6 months, psych eval, ect.) which they were sent just lost in the process and had to file an appeal which took about a month to get reversed. I was sooooo anxious about not getting approved I almost stopped the whole process so just be patient. Most people get approved if you follow all the requirements. I just found out about the reversal today and it took a total of about 2 months after all my requirements were done to get approved so just stay patient:) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    how can this be happening

Did you spend the night in the hospital? How long were you on IV fluids? I spent the night and was on IV's the whole time. My understanding is there is a lot of glucose in them. Between that and the constant intake of fluids, weight gain is going to happen. I weighed 7 pounds more when I left the hospital than when I went in. The good news is, that weight will probably come off in your first week at home.
  25. It IS a great place and I feel like the men on here can identify with where I am more than any men I've known, which is why you all are the ONLY men who have ever been privy to my actual weight (besides a medical professional). Even my husband had NO clue as to how much I weighed until a few weeks ago. I just know that everyone on here, men and women, can relate to every feeling I have or have had about weight gain, weight loss, surgery, or anything to do with all of that. Anything we're going through, we can jump on here and find someone else that is going through it too. Very awesome.
