  1. Scoutmom— how is it going? I’m in the same boat as you guys but i haven’t out on weight. My sleeve was very successful but now having revision in one week due to gerd. Although i haven’t gained weight i am about 25 lbs from my goal weight. I am hoping to loose just a little bit not too much. I’ve heard it’s a little harder the second half. How are you progressing and feeling?
  2. Hello, I had a revision surgery a year ago. The only way I got through the liquid diet was hot beverages. Hot tea and decaf coffee. Sweetened with calorie free sweetener and if I wanted creamer I used fat free half and half with sugar free/calorie free flavored syrups. They curbed my hunger and still do. Same for hot soup and broth. I drank it as hot as I could stand. I tried to also keep myself full off water. The key is to make sure you try to stay ahead of your hunger with the approved options. Try to consume something every 2-3 hours.

    Anyone for September 2020?

Surgery was this morning (revision from sleeve to bypass for GERD). So far I am doing very well and much better than I did at this point after sleeve. I’m already walking the whole hallway and have passed my sips test, so am drinking water and watered down apple juice. I am so happy I went through with this!
  4. you might. Like I said, we see so few posts on this type of revision that it's hard to see the big picture.
  5. Hello From my experiences when I underwent the Lapband procedure in 2009 and my revision WLS Gastric Bypass in 2016, I did not wait for the office to tell me anything. I got on the phone and asked if my insurance covers WLS. The other question you want to ask the insurance company are there any particular medical requirements in effort to be approved for WLS? You may want to ask also at the time of admission if approved do I have a copay at the time of admission? There are some insurance companies that require a copay ans some donot. I have never heard of a surgeon perform WLS and not receive an authorization for the service that is rendered. I hope my information is helpful and do not hesitate to ask anything. I am Post Op 11 years and still in the journey. This is a longterm journey of challenges. Missy Cee
  6. I had a revision from gastric bypass. Only my surgeon went the other way he gave me a sleeve and did a SIPS a kind of mini Duodenal switch. Unfortunately, it didn't help me lose any weight. It wasn't a total loss I no longer have diarrhea. But I was in tremendous pain. Good luck with your plan but remember its what you put in your mouth more than anything that determines weight loss. A lots of these people who are successful are on very low calorie diets and stick to them. I thought I could get the magic bullet again by have my intestines operated on again. but it didn't work for me. Right now I am trying optifast. and so it goes...

    Revision surgery pre op diet

hi i dont have any experience with a revision but wanted to wish you luck!
  8. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had a revision to an original gastric bypass surgery. I’m going in and having my pouch made smaller. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and what my outcome might look like. Thanks

    Last Dr visit

I did years of research before even coming to the surgeon and was dead set on sleeve and thought nobody could sway me. But then I got all my doctors' opinions (yeah lots of comorbidities), and a few suggested RnY and had good reasons. I went a bit nuts on the internet looking at studies and thinking about how my weight likes to creep up silently because of menopause and decided that RnY would help more with that "creep" than the sleeve, I also like how I might "dump" to discourage me from overindulging when I lose my willpower. I also don't want to get sleeve and then get GERD and have to get a revision. I had the "pill stuck in my throat" feeling when I was taking an antibiotic a few months ago and I HATED IT SO MUCH. I want to do this once. Who knows what my insurance will be like in a few years. But... you do you! My good friend got sleeve 5 years ago and is so successful.

    October Surgery Roll Call

I am October 15th having a revision done to my gastric bypass surgery!
  11. I am having revision surgery in October. Going in to have my pouch made smaller and the hole made smaller. I’m super nervous because I’m hungry ALL THE TIME. I have no idea how I am going to make the pre op liquid diet for two weeks. Does anyone have any tips? Has anyone had success with a gastric bypass revision?

    10 months out bathroom problems?

You could have the other problem. I had diarrhea running down my leg when I was several years out. Probably too much something in my diet. but I had a revision and BOOM! I now get constipated instead. LOL You just did something major to your gastrointestinal system. I think everyone has some kind of issue. I hope you find something to help you. Maybe a little more fat in your diet as well as extra fiber and water. I am not saying a lot. Just a smidge.

    Dumping

I had the sleeve but I had it revised to the gastric bypass. I have gone 10 days once without having a bm. I don't have cramps I feel nothing like I don't have to go.
  14. So my ENT diagnosed me with silent GERD. Never heard of such a thing. Had a revision in May 2020 due to hernia and GERD. Had to revised twice more in June due to some complications. Have been feeling fine then boom, come July I feel a lump In my throat. No heartburn. At my ent visit for another issue with dizziness she did a scope and said it’s acid in the throat. Not the esophagus. 🤦‍♀️ 🤦‍♀️ Don’t have a single symptom of typical heartburn just this lump. Feels like something stuck. Like a pill. I can drink and eat with no issues. It’s getting worse so she put me on Pepcid 40 At night time. Anyone have this. What did you do for it. It’s so annoying.

    Band to Sleeve?!?!

I am getting my revision from band to sleeve on Monday, September 21st. There was no problem with the insurance covering it but I had to go through the whole program again like I did with the band so it took months. Then Covid hit and all surgeries were postponed so it's been a long wait. I got my band in 2010 and loved it and did really well, but a couple of years ago I started getting horrible GERD that was caused by the band. They had to take all the fluid out and since then I've put back on 40 pounds and I'm miserable. The fact that my gym closed and I couldn't go to my usual exercise class everyday didn't help either. I'm pretty sure your insurance will cover it, but it might take awhile if they make you go through the whole program again like they did with me. Good luck!
  16. Hello My name is Missy and I have been on my journey since 2009. I started with the Lapband procedure which I spent the longest amount of time from 2009 through 2015. After experiencing an erosion of my stomach in 2015 the band had to be removed and in 2016 my surgeon conducted a revision which is the Gastric Bypass. I was extremely happy at one point in my life because I began to lose weight again. Unfortunately 6 years later I am facing a slow weight loss phase in my life and I am trying to fight from getting where I once was. If anyone is experiencing any of these complications, please share and together we can overcome some of these challenges so that we can remain at our weight or improve our health.

I’m sorry did I say that carbs caused GERD? My intent was to say sleeve can cause eventual need for revision to RNY due to GERD. Carbs are a separate subject, that can cause issues with the weight weight loss phase and usually healthy carbs are for maintenance and after protein is eaten. And depends on the persons ability to process them. I’m sorry I won’t be responding to posts. I’m not very good at getting the correct message across, especially lately I’m just dealing with a lot of issues with my chronic illness. I’m not sure why it’s offensive though to discuss a strict low carb way of eating, that is beneficial for some people. Not all people process carbs very well. But it does come down to individual needs. And I’m not pushing low carb with my comment. Just saying that carbs if any comes with maintenance. And if someone has GERD it’s usually An issue after sleeve surgery. Sorry I’m stepping away now from commenting further on anymore posts since for some reason I offended you.

I'm not sure where that info is coming from, but there is no link between carbs and reflux, and certainly not to RNY revision. GERD is a complication of the sleeve due to the new stomach anatomy creating a high pressure upper GI system. There are many different post surgical diet programs, all prioritize protein, hydration and calorie deficits. But they are not all strictly low carb. There is more than one path to weight loss success.

@Keatsy honestly needed that. Not in a good place right now. But i get up and deal with the day the best I can. One step at a time even if my limitations don’t let me get too far ... reading these posts we all need to learn to be our own nutritionist on our journey. Each have our differences especially how our bodies process foods. I was trying some meals with beef and cauliflower rice and am not sure what caused a spike in my weight. I rarely if ever eat beef. Perhaps it was that it was a frozen meal (real good foods Mongolian beef bowl) guess I’ll stick to doing it my way. I’m still testing the waters with cauliflower rice. At least post gastric bypass that is. I ate it often before. I’m wondering what surgery your friend had that she is having reflux. And that she can eat so much without pains. Did she have sleeve? A lot of times with sleeve maybe the nutritionist guidelines can be more lax. Some nutritionists think carbs are ok even early on. But my nutritionist guidelines save complex, healthy carbs for maintenance and then only after having protein first so very minimal carbs. And usually from vegetables and healthy sources. It is strange how different they can be. And it can be very damaging to the success of the bariatric patient’s success. Also with sleeve that’s usually what causes eventual reflux or GERd. And then people usually end up getting revision to RNY. it’s hard to know what to say even to a friend. I was in similar position years ago a friend eating herself sick, literally but I couldn’t confront her about it. But that was a very difficult situation. If this is a close friend and she trusts you gently ask about her nutritionist and why she approves of so much carbs and sugar. Especially during the weight loss phase. Maybe just curious to compare to yours. I would think mot nutritionist guidelines would say very little if any sugar. I don’t know if it’s different for sleeve.

    Weight Gain after VSG

Hey girl regain is actually common that far out on the sleeve statistically you are not alone. You could try to get revision to d switch or you could try to lose the lbs by following plan. Also maybe consider getting apetite suppressant to help if you feel hunger. This reads more like binge so maybe make appointment w counselor
  21. I had sleeve in 2016 and then developed GERD which resulted in a hiatal hernia. On 8/3/20 had a revision to bypass and fix the hiatal hernia. So far I’ve been doing great and walking 5 miles a day. I have lost 25 lbs so far
  22. Im assuming this was a typo you mean 1.25 YEARS after surgery...? My own experience (may and will differ from others): I had my plastics surgeries (Tummy tuck/Breast Lift/Arm Lift) 14 months after my sleeve surgery. I would’ve done it earlier, closer to my one year mark, but my preferred surgeon was booked up (I had hit goal at 7 mnths post op). My surgeon did not have a time requirement to being at a stable weight prior to surgery. He did say though that LOSING “alot” of weight would affect the results more than GAINING “alot” weight. He explained that that scar tissue does not stretch as well as regular skin, and is even worse at shrinking. He said I should be prepared for this especially since I tend to scar badly historically (keloid and hypertrophic scarring). His example of “alot” was either losing 10-15 lbs OR gaining 20-30...but these numbers were for MY frame (I was 5’2” and 127 lbs at the time of consult), others with different body types would have different numbers. Anyhoo, fast forward to my surgery and I was 12 lbs less than the date of my consult 6 months earlier...so I guess it was good he was booked up (although I did lose those 12 lbs BEFORE my earlier date I originally wanted, but I digress...) I’ll be 2 years post-sleeve next month, and am 9 months post-plastics today. I am basically still the same weight as plastics surgery day: 115lbs (give or a take a couple lbs, depending on the day). Had been this weight for months before plastics, actually. I am thoroughly happy with my decision. There were people who told me I was rushing it, that to just exercise more and I can firm it up naturally (sounds familiar to my obese days when I was contemplating WLS, lol). But I knew what I wanted and was prepared to take the responsibility to maintain what I worked for...and should I eff it up, am prepared to take the responsibility for that too. Everyone is different, and only YOU know if you are ready to take the plunge or not. But I will say that plastics was a total game changer (at least for me). Would do it all again, in the exact same way in a heartbeat. Good Luck! ❤️ P.S. This may or not be helpful: Even if you do gain or lose weight after plastics (whether you wait 2 months or 2 years), to the point that your results become undesirable, who’s to say you can’t get a revision to correct? Obviously, it would be ideal that one wouldn’t have to, but who says life is always ideal? Do what makes you happy and is in your means and ability to acheive. P.P.S. Sorry this was so long!!
  23. Amazing surgeon! He explains everything very well, and completely honest. No sugar coating anything! I'm in the process of getting a revision done.

    Regrets?

I definitely had my share of complications (nothing life threatening) over the years and had more than one revision because of this but I don't regret it. The only thing I regret is that I postponed revision from lap band for so long. I don't know if hesitating bought me some complications that could've been avoided but in the end it's speculative so no reason to mull it over in my head. When it comes to "regret": I don't think you will get many "I regret it" answers for several reasons. 1) Most people on here are relatively early out. They're still in the weight loss phase when rewards are rolling in big or in early maintenance phase. That's too soon for e. g. long-term nutritional deficiencies or transfer addiction to roar their ugly heads. It's also too early for regain struggles. 2) There is high selection bias on internet boards. Here you either see "surgery newbies" or very successful people who want to celebrate their success and maybe make sure to stay on track by posting here or simply continue hanging around because they want to stay in contact with certain users. 3) People having serious ongoing complications or insufficient weight loss or major regain and therefore feeling regret don't tend to hang around here. Maybe they meet elsewhere or suffer in silence, I don't know. Once in a while you see a new user posting about regain and "wanting help". They make a thread, get several answers and seem to vanish into thin air again but they don't hang around so you can e. g. follow their journey for some months to come.

Thanks! Still need that brachioplasty + abdomen scar revision to pull the dress off without a shawl. Re-scheduled surgery for November due to client/project needs early Fall. Need my arms and hands fully operational right now to draft up floor plans, elevations, architectural details etc. effectively. It will be wonderful someday to wear a short sleeve dress or blouse without the need to cover the bat wings! Pretty scary, right? Skin is so heavy on my small frame now. Each arm probably weighs one pound in loose skin. Oh boy. Until then - wiggle jiggle at the drafting board we go... Haha. ;]
