Hi, I was also banded on 4-12-11. I have lost 16 lbs so far from starting my pre-op diet. Don't worry, you sound like you are doing it correctly. I have been having yogurt and pudding and it is working. I was in the hospital for 3 days due to low potassuim, so I was loaded with liquid. I have been having a yogurt everyday and have been losing. I have make up my own sort of yogurt conconction that is working great. Here is is in case you want to try it: Half of a dannon light and fit pinapple/coconut yogurt (3 ounces) about 2-3 ounces of 1% milk or skim scoop of vanilla Protein powder few ice cubes Blend it up and it tastes like a virgin pina colada and loaded with the protein! Takes a little time to finish it all, but you should only sip it. I have also added Protein Powder to any instant sugar free pudding (usually a half a scoop)

Thanks Rachel! My concern is that I had it done overseas, so needless to say the DR has been very lax in the post-op diet and Im left to do my own research online , which can be frustrating with the amount of information. To make matters worse. I managed to get a head cold that has made me super weak with flu symptoms , so Im not able to be active to assist the first week. Im just so nervous.. I guess tomorrow I will re-start and only take in Water, Soup and tea.. and elliminate the sugar free Jello and diet yogurt..

Something you wish you knew prior to bypass surgery that you know now?
LisaMergs replied to erica2185's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
@ Lisamergs thanks for your response... So do you think its the surgery itself that leaves you with the desire not to eat or its more so a mental change for you? Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App Well...I'm not sure lol. Likely a combination of both. Definitely do NOT feel hunger on any regular basis. Early on, if I was "late" for a meal, and got too far out, and then went to eat, I'd be in pain. Odd thing isn't it? And again, I do not think that was a normal reaction. I learned that if I found myself in a situation where I was going to miss a meal, and knew I'd end up in pain then as soon as I COULD eat, having a Protein shake was a better choice than, say, meat and veggies. I also found that if I was experiencing actual PAIN from not having eaten, a simple forbidden pretzel or cracker chewed well was able to quell it. Those were the few only times I ate carbs... And I'm not prone to being a binge-eater, so I could literally eat just the one or two. As soon as my pouch settled down, I'd have my yogurt or cottage cheese. Most meats, on most days, still do not set right with me. I'm more likely to have a triple zero Oikos (15g protein) with a scoop of Protein powder added to it (20g protein) for most meals... Boring, but I hit my protein goals, and today I hit my goal weight. 132 lbs lost since my surgery date. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am also 4 months out & have hit a wall with my weight loss. I'm down 74 lbs & very happy about that but I have 90 more to go!!! This is supposed to be the time we are dropping it like it's hot! I blame my plateau on cheating on my diet, not getting enough Water in, & not exercising enough. Sooooo...I'm back on the horse & starting drinking Protein shakes again, parking at the far end of the lot, and putting myself on a food & supplement schedule. I have 5 alarms on my phone that go off every time it's time for me to take my supplements and/or eat. I'm also squeezing exercise in wherever I can. I brought an 8lb dumbbell set to work and do arm exercises during down time. I also do butt clenches & squats. I get very weird looks from my co-workers, but screw it! I'm loving all the new found energy I have everyday! I'm pretty much living on Protein Shakes, egg whites, grilled chicken, tuna salad, G2 & Powerade Zero, & Greek yogurt. That's really all we can do, right?? But you should be proud of 50 lbs, that's 50 lbs less your carrying around! Good job!!

Did Not Succeed

There have been some good suggestions about talking to your doctor to see if your band has been placed and is working correctly. You didn't say what kind of sick you got but I assume it was band related - thus the 2cc unfill. If your band is okay and you can't for whatever reason get a fill at this time, and you seem like you can eat most foods - then I recommend that you just count calories. Stay under 1500. At your weight you should be able to lose at that calorie level. And eat healthy foods that fill you up. High Fiber, salads with lots of veggies. Wraps with lite deli chicken or ham. Baked potatoes with I can't believe it's not butter spray. High fiber cereals. And lite oatmeal. Lite Soups (progresso makes good ones). Whole grain crackers. Protein bars (special K makes a great choc. Peanut Butter Meal Replacement bar). Don't drink any calories. Just crystal lite. And Water. Use skim milk. Get lite whole wheat bread for toast. For fruit, use no sugar added cups of fruit (they come in 1/2 cup sizes). For Snacks try sugar free pudding, Jello, or the fruit. I mix the jello and sugar free peaches. Use a little fat free whipped topping. I hate cheese and yogurt but you could try that, too. Try this for about 3 weeks and see how it goes. Exercise daily, too. Do something you like. Take a walk. Join a gym. Lift weights. Take a dancing class. Whatever you like. Good luck -
Breakfast Protiens Besides Shakes/yogurts
honk replied to dramastarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is how I make yogurt more filling. Chobani fruited Greek yogurt (6 oz. other brands are only 5.3 oz). Mix in 1/2 a scoop whey isolate protein powder (vanilla for peach or pinapple, chocolate for cherry or raspberry), splendra to taste, 1 tsp unflavored benefiber. Mix well. Then add in a couple chopped walnuts, Kashi Go Lean high protein cereal (measure out using scoops from protein powder I normally do two.). This is a lot more filling than plain yogurt. I can usually last about 4 hours. -
I haven't visited the forums in a long time! But things have been great so I wanted toupdate all of you that helped me so much in the early part of my journey. And just a few questions for old-times sake! 1) I am 4 months post op TODAY! and I have lost 67lbs since surgery, and 72lbs since my highest weight. It's amazing!!!! I didn't think I would lose THIS much! now I'm dreaming of weighing 140lbs....I'm only 45lbs away from goal! it's insane! 2) I FINALLY started an exercise program. I bought one of those mini trampolines, and I've been doing "rebounding" it's great, and really fun, easy on your joints. I think everyone should do it!!!! 3) I am a size 14! 5) I don't count my carbs :-x I know everyone was so worried about the carbs. But I haven't been counting them and I do just fine. I make sensible food choices (yogurt, whole wheat Pasta, cheese, veggies, fruit, seafood etc) and it seems to work just fine for me. Lastly....I haven't lost my hair. AT ALL! Is it going to happen still? I keep waiting, and no sign of hair loss!

Well on tuesday is my weigh in day.. I am nervous about not being down.. I have been hungry.. With being on liquids my surgeon said that i am not to focus on losing weight that this is a time to heal, but I feel like I need to be down some weight. I don't want to be stressing over this but I can't help it.. I have been keeping my calories to around 1100-1200. This has not been to hard i feel satisfied with this number but sometimes feel like I am eating to much.. How crazy is that.... Onto another topic I have a discharge anyone else have that like 10 days post op. It is a clear bright yellow... I have no fever, not a lot of pain but had night sweats last night and mild chills tonight.. I am waiting to call my clinic tomorrow morning. I am hoping it is nothing.. It is coming from the port site.. Anyways time for bed. PS does anyone in canada know where to find this greek yogurt everyone is talking about??? Thanks for any feedback...

No, I don't think pizza rolls or egg rolls are a good idea. Soft foods means scrambled eggs, yogurt, or maybe refried beans with a little cheese. Check with your surgeon or nutritionist to see when you can move in to the next stage and what exactly that should consist of. Susan

I've seen a lot of threads about different types of Protein powders, shakes, etc, but haven't come across one yet for ways to pack in the protein in other forms, so I figured I'd start one. I'm only a few weeks out so my diet is still limited, but so far the things I've found are: Oikos greek yogurt 110 cal, 0 fat, 15g protein! It's kinda sour, so I usually add some Bear Naked Protein granola. Bear Naked Protein Granola: 140 cal, 7g fat, 5g protein Kashi Go Lean High Protein & High Fiber cereal: 140 cal, 1g fat, 13g protein Special K Protein Plus: 100 cal, 3g fat, 10g protein Carbmaster yogurt: 80 cal, 4g carbs, 12 g protein (i can only find this at Smith's, so i'm not sure if that's true of everywhere, or just here) Frigo Light String Cheese: 60 cal, 8g protein 1g carbs I'd love to hear what other products people have found. I'm not a huge fan of the shakes, so as my diet progresses, I'd like to add a wider variety of protein options instead of going back to shakes. Right now, my favorites are yogurt and granola or Cereal with milk. Since skim milk has 8-9g protein (depending on the brand) I can easily get at least 18g in one quick meal.

First off- I am 6 weeks post op banding. I have 3 ccs in a 10cc band, put in at time of surgery. I am Just wondering about getting something stuck. Thursday night (3 1/2 days ago) I accidently took a handful of pills all at once. How dumb! I knew as soon as I started to swallow I was in trouble. Well, since then I haven't had much of an appetite. I did have some pain between my breast a couple days. I am trying to eat but nothing sounds good. I have only been eating yogurt and scrambled eggs with melted cheese. That and warm Water is about the only thing that sounds good. Oh and I had some cream of wheat. Here it is Monday and I still have no appetite. My stomach feels "jittery" at times, if that makes sense. The pain has subsided. I just feel so weak. I do have an appointment with the surgeon day after tomorrow. They had planned on doing a fill, but I say NO! I don't think they would anyway with me feeling the way I do. My question is does this sound what others have gone through after getting something stuck? When the band slips you throw up right? Or can't get food down? Thanks

Feeling discouraged by trying soft foods. Eggs and tuna, were my go-to but every time I eat them I have to lay down for 30 minutes. I don’t enjoy cottage cheese, but enjoy yogurt and some fruits... but none of this is protein. So I’m going back to my blender... this is still my first 4 days of soft foods but I’m feeling discouraged. I’m sipping a homemade smoothie currently and feeling much better. Any other ideas?

Fuzzy navel is my favorite, followed by double stuffed cookie and roadside lemonade. The cookie one I mix with 1/2 milk 1/2 Water or add the mix straight to pudding or Greek yogurt, mixed with mild and blenderize with ice cubes it is much like Cookies n cream ice cream. I have fuzzy navel almost daily at work, pour over crushed ice and sip all day. I did NOT like the lemon tea....the color and texture just totally grossed me out, I couldn't finish the bottle :/. Roadside eom add I add crystal light lemonade and extra water, helps mask the proteiny taste a bit. Good luck, hope you like em!! Been a lifesaver for me!!!! I eat Chobani Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and lots of tuna to get my protein. Have you tried Unjury chicken soup flavor protein powder? It tastes like warm chicken broth to me. You can get a sample pack to try it would at least get you through the days after a fill.

I would have LooooVed this thread if it was about FROZEN greek yogurt. LoL

I love Splenda and don't have problems with it, but my friend prefers to blue packet, Nutrasweet. Maybe try it and the old standby pink packet artificial sweetener? If you can't use any sugar replacements or find a Protein powder with a sugar-replacement that works for you, try the unsweetened Protein Powder or the chicken Soup flavor from unjury. You will need some kind of protein powder to get in your protein during the first months after surgery. Greek Yogurt has lots of protein too and could be sweetened with any sweetener, but I found it hard to get enough of it down at first. Lynda

The ricotta bake from Eggface was on my dietician's list of suggested puree foods. I loved it! I only made 1/4 recipe at a time though. There are lots of other recipes here! http://theworldaccor...reed-foods.html I was only allowed Protein rich foods on purees, no fruits, veggies, or grains, so I did a lot of refried Beans, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and poached eggs in addition to different kinds of meat that I would puree in my food processor with some sort of tasty sauce/liquid. Some of my favorite combos: --thai spice tuna pureed with sriracha sauce --sweet & spicy tuna pureed with low carb bbq sauce --rotisserie chicken (no skin!) pureed with low carb bbq sauce, sriracha sauce, or peanut satay sauce --chicken pureed with marinara sauce and nuked in the microwave with mozzarella cheese --ground beef pureed with vodka sauce or tartufata sauce --lemon dill salmon pureed with olive oil mayo (the types of fish are those flavored tuna and salmon pouches you can pick up at the grocery store). --sauteed shrimp sauteed with garlic aioli & mayo or remoulade

I am in the Uk and now 4 weeks today and have been having same problems. I can eat yogurt baby bell cheese Protein shakes etc but been sick when I tried soft food. I am hoping it is just a phase and maybe taking a bit slower but just so fed up with soup or sweet stuff. Just of out to a big thanksgiving dinner as one of my mummy friends is American. I didn't eat baby food or pure anything. I did eat a lot of soup and used my immersion blender to smooth it all out. I couldn't stand the thought of pureed meat but some do and like it. Protein shakes, yogurt and soups for me
