Sorry- this may be TMI!!!! i had my surgery on January 9th and I was on my period! During my experience, having my period was horrible. The nurse that prepped me for surgery, told me i couldnt wear my undies with my pads. They made be go into surgery just in my gown, that was embarrassing because they had to put in a catheter so when I woke up and in my hospital room, the first thing I asked was if I still had it in! I got upset because I had to walk up and down the halls with my catheter and my gown on only and the whole time I was worried about leaving drippings in the hallway or having blood leak through to the back of my gown! And then when one of the nurses had to take out my catheter I was embarrassed because the nurse had to deal with taking out the cath that possibly was covered in blood. But all the nurses reassured me that it was their job and they didn't mind about that because they were used to it. The nurses help with making sure their patients feel comfortable. I hope you aren't on it too like I was. But if so, then the nurses will help you deal with it during surgery and even after for recovery. Good luck on your future surgery!!

January 2013 Sleevers?
crystal525 replied to LenaVSG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm home and resting. Surgery was Monday the 14th. It lasted 5 hours!!! I had a band which was taken out in April but my surgeon said it was still really bad...lots of scar tissue. And I had a large hernia to repair (probably caused by my band since I had my previous hernia repaired when my band was put in). Now I'm just trying to get my liquids in. I haven't done well with that yet. Each meal in the hospital was only 58 calories!!! I stayed in hospital 2 nights. The doc suggested staying the second night since I'm so far away. If I lived closer to the hospital I'm sure I would have been able to go home yesterday. But wow what a difference that second night made. I am feeling much better today than I did yesterday. Yesterday I was still in a drug induced fog. Today I washed up and dressed myself! Lol. Things I've noticed so far: crystal light not going down too well; soup, ice chips and jello are ok. I had no nausea. The hospital nutritionist seems to have linked severe nausea to people who also get motion sickness. She's been suggesting to her patients that get motion sickness to get the patch before surgery...just a thought to those of u with upcoming surgeries. Lastly, and maybe tmi, since I wasn't passing gas I had to have a suppository this morning before they released me to make sure I didn't have a blockage. It took awhile but I was all good. Well back to sipping! Crystal -

What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
Mysties mom replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are moving in the right direction! I was sleeved 2 1/2 months ago and I am so glad I did! One of my issues was the same TMI issue you had (you are not alone there) and I no longer have that issue YAY !!! I just hope that I may be leading by example and that my daughter might follow my lead! You may be a step ahead of some of us in that your daugher can direct you and guide you as she has been there! Best of luck to you! -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"

I am at the very beginning of my journey, I have been one of the ignorant people that tend to pass judgment on WLS, My daughter was sleeved last year, and it took everything in me to not nag her to death, I just felt, their she was taking yet another easy road out of something, I mean come on girl get off your a** and step away from the fork. Stop being so lazy. Well...now here we are, she has a hot healthy active body, she even did a 26mi bike ride with her and my grandchildren. Me on the other hand, have gained 30lbs since her surgery, which makes me almost in the mid 200,im all of 5'3 I'm in pain 24/7 and... Wait for it... I can't even wipe correctly, I know that may be TMI for some of you, but seriously I will bet there are some of you that feel the same way, just not putting it out there. I will do it for you, I want to wipe like a normal person, I want to wash those personal areas without pulling a muscle. I have many other triggers that finally opened up my mind and my heart to this path, but when I saw the topic, What was your last straw? that is the first thing that popped in my mind. I will be attending the seminar this week, my daughter has been such an inspiration to me, and I have seen the suffering, hard work and sacrifices she has made to get to where she is today. No easy road with this decision for sure. I am ready, I am ready to be the hot healthy grandma that can actually sit on the floor and get up all by her self. Ready, Set, Go!!!! -
January 2013 Post Op
redlockqt replied to ready2smile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't experienced any diarrhea. I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. No bm since 2 days after surgery (sorry if tmi) I'm trying to tell myself it's because I'm not really taking enough food in. As far as diet I'm doing Water, life water, berry pomegranate tea, Protein drinks and strained soups. I'm a pretty happy girl. Pain is virtually gone. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk -
January 2013 Post Op

This is a great thread! So happy to be on the 'losers bench' sipping as I write this! The road has been bumpy but I am so grateful! I took a walk early this morning, but my nausea and diarrhea need to get under control (sorry if tmi) has anyone else experienced it? I haven't had anything but water so far! Oh and cat naps =] congrats to everyone I look forward to hearing about everyone's progress! And Jen I was there for an extra day for observation (irregular heartbeat) 3 days total! Happy to be home now though -
I agree with most of you 1. People should read up on the "foreign object" you are putting in your body and should be aware of the pro/cons of getting any type of WLS and any possible complications. For me I debated 2 years on which surgery I wanted I decided on lap-band but I didn't expect half the crap I deal with now. Constantly cold to the point where I was diagnosed with Raynauds phenomenon. My throat closing up when my sinuses get infected. Not being able to eat when I'm pissed off. Losing so much weight that my tailbone hurts when i sit. Low blood pressure to the point where i'm constantly dizzy. Port pain because it rubs against my desk at work. Port pain while having sex (TMI oops) That was not listed on anything I researched. 2. Yes a lot of the questions on this forum are repeated almost everyday but who has time to go through all the topics and find one that best matches what you want to ask. Its easier to ask the freaken question. There are quite a few people who post on almost every thread. Who has time for that? I'm all for helping people who need advice but I'm not going to live on this forum. What gets me are those who are quick to offer advice when they haven't been banded long or banded at all 3. There are a few know it alls on this forum that appear to look down at certain people for being human and make mistakes. I eat bread. I eat cookies. I freaken love donuts. Do I eat them everyday? Of course not duh that's what made me fat to begin with. I've managed to lose over 80lbs in 11 months with NO FILLs. Could I have lost more? Hell yeah. I gained 15lbs and have since lost 10 of those lbs. Who's at fault? ME!!! I don't need people to scold me or tap my hand and say what I'm doing is bad. Usually when I choose to post on here it's because I'm looking to speak to someone who is banded and can relate to the issues I have. None of my close friends or family are banded so I can't get advice from them. I rarely get on this forum now. I'm happy I've met people on this forum that became friends. I can text them and complain to them about being hungry or wanting chocolate without being judged.

1 wk post-op, issue w/ BMs & dont understand liquid intake...
TheLCSpencer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! I am one week post-op and sort of struggling. This part of post-op is so frustrating. I had a sleeve with Dr. Aceves in MexiCali. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired. In his post-op instructions he says we aren't really supposed to have more than 2 oz in 15 minutes. This is pretty hard. At first, I was taking in lots of liquid because I didn't quite understand the restriction. The first 1-2 days were actually alright. Now that I'm understanding what the foamies are (which I got twice in the first two days), I am trying to be more careful. No more than 2 oz, at all times. Also after 2 ozs I sort of feel full, so I don't try to push it. Yesterday I was pushing myself to have about 2 oz every 30 minutes and that seemed to be the best I could manage without stuffing myself full of liquid. At this rate, if I'm up for 14 hours a day, and I don't stop drinking, I will only get 28 oz of liquid--nowhere close to the 64 I'm supposed to get. Also, (TMI) my pee is a little dark, so even at this rate, I still feel dehydrated. Very frustrating. Did anyone else experience this? Does it go away so you can drink more? Second issue is that in one week I have only had one very small BM (a week ago). My reg Dr. suggest milk of magnesia. At what point should I use it? I think it's about time things start happening in that department but im afraid of getting dehydrated even more! I realize that I'm having all liquids and not much should come out, but....I had solids a week ago, and I'm pretty sure that's still somewhere in me (TMI). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! -
Question about gas
emeraldeye replied to sleevinitallbehind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I was sleeved the 8th and I have the same feeling until a gas bubble comes up! Also, it may be TMI, but my favorite pose is to get on my knees and forearms with my butt in the air and let the gas rise up my back.......such relief! I also take gas x and the nurse gave me a thumbs up on them! Sent from my iPhone using VST -
Who is scheduled for Jan 8th? I'm getting nervous
JeffA70 replied to 2013isit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Great, Woobs! Right back at you with the tmi. Same here on #2. It's been three days. Not worried yet and don't feel like I need to go. But it sure is weird. Have not used my nausea or my painkiller since coming home. I think I'm going to stockpile the painkiller for the first time my back gives out, as I can't use my miracle drug of 800mg Advil anymore for that. I'm on a nasty-assed prescription of Protonix, which my doc says is given to everyone for reflux and stomach soothing. Tastes like crap. -

Woobs replied to 2013isit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Was sleeved on the 8th just showered today (shower is upstairs so I had to wait). Feel more human now. Had bad nausea in recovery but have been doing ok since--haven't needed my nausea drugs. Have some gurgle/gas pains and soreness overall but able to manage. My only issue is well...still haven't gone number 2 (sorry for the tmi). Going to take something to move things along tomorrow also hoping to get off the pain meds altogether that should help. -
SlimFast has a decent shake=Cappucino Delight...weird little side note (and probably WAAAAY TMI, It makes your urine smell like coffee) just thought I should warn you!

Uhhh!! If I smelled pizza...I might spontaneously combust! Lol. No, but honestly I ate 2 bites of cottage cheese the other day too fast and it was sooo painful!! Then I threw up, well, just wretched and spit (tmi and gross, I know) about 10 times and so other people's food is not appealing to me at all since that happened! I'm terrified it will happen again! But once I get over the fear...who knows? -
Yep, I ditto what Nicole K said! I'm only 8 days and each day is getting better! I had buyers remorse and post op blues on days 3-5. Besides the diahhrea (ick and tmi) each day is getting better. It's hard with all the meds and trauma your whole body has experienced. Walk and sip, walk and sip! Congrats!!

dairy free protein shake?
Nicole K replied to Natasha K's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I had the same thing. I changed to fat free lactose free milk with the shakes and diarrhea ceased. Thank god! I do still go poop 2 times a day but they are more solid (sorry TMI)! DOS 12/17/12 -
I will give those of you who doesn't have to do a bowel prep sine advice!! DO IT ANYWAY!! I didn't have one and even though I was on a pre op liquid diet I should have did one even though my doctor didn't require one. TMI I came home from surgery sore weak etc. Just to have 2 days later having to go potty but couldn't because of impacted bowels as the pain meds causes constipation and it was miserable!!!
-
So I stopped taking my calcium citrate recently because it gives me such horrible constipation (sorry for the TMI). My doctor was not please so I am now taking it again daily, but the constipation has returned. I've looked into taking a daily stool softener, but the only ones I can find are gelcaps which we can't take after the sleeve. Does anyone have any recommendations? I want to take my vitamins, but cannot handle this bowel issue. Any recommendations would be appreciated!!
