Stage 4 any techniques to meet fluid goal?
numeby2017 replied to yami17leth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on stage 4 as well and I admit I have this problem too I also find that I don't lose weight as fast when on solids vs. liquids/puree. So some days I try to do mostly liquid proteins/greek yogurt etc instead of 3 solid meals a day because it helps me lose weight faster and I get my liquids in easier as well. I am sure I'm going to have to get used to eating solids daily at some point, but it's a struggle and I play with it every day because some days I can tell my body won't tolerate solids but as the others said just keep track of try to get it anyway you can. My go tos are Fairlife milk in my morning smoothie and I try to drink Isopure couple times a day diluted with crystal lite or Syntrax nectar slightly so I'm getting about 60 grams of Protein a day from that as well as getting some fluids Sent from my KFSAWI using the BariatricPal App -
Discouraged and disappointed
KellyL replied to apple-saucy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Hot Feet I don't know if you are like me, but I lose from head to toe, literally. My face, chin, breasts, upper abdomen, then it takes FOREVER to look or feel like the rest of my body has lost any weight.....except for my feet! I think my feet was one of the first things I notice too. It's truly weird, but I carry a lot of weight in my tummy, thighs and booty, so I guess it's gonna take a while for that to look different to us. As someone else said, other people are probably noticing a difference, even if they aren't saying. Or it's just enough weight loss that they notice something is different, but can't put their finger on what it is. Some days I feel thinner, but most of the time I still feel really fat. My bras also got too big before anything else. I wish we could pick where we lose weight, I would have liked to keep my boobs, but after reading the boards for so long, I was kinda prepared for this too. As another poster said too, I can definitely see a difference if I look at pics. Not that there's many of me around cuz I completely despise my pic being taken. But try to dig out some if you have any current ones to compare. And measuring is a great idea too. The scales just don't move fast enough for any of us, it's one thing we can all agree on! But we're gonna get there, slowly but surely!! -
I go for my second fill on the 23 of this month and am afraid to tell the doctor that I can eat as much as I could before the band. I know he is a very blundt person and I am just hoping that the band didn't slip. Honestly, it doesn't feel like it's even there lately. I eat too fast, all the wrong foods again. I know what I should be doing, but can't seem to get myself back in control. Not sure what I should do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Neenco, I so understand. I love food just like everyone else. I don't eat tons but it is my poor choices. I give in to the fast foods rest. etc. I have about 80 to 100 extra pounds and it sucks. I am sick of feeling like I look awful everywhere I go.

Sandra, In the beginning of weight loss it is very important to do cardio which is the treadmill. I didn't even start to exercise until I lost 60 pounds, which was stupid because I lost whatever muscle that I did have and had to begin all over again. I am still slow on the cardio but I love going to the gym and lift weights. I go to LA Fitness in Arlington. I don't know if you belong to a gym but it is also so much easier when you have a partner. I will still always do it myself though as I now geet depressed if I don't. Cardio is excellent when losing weight and do a bit of an incline for your calves and quads. I also heard that if you stay at a constant fast pace and I call it a power walk without the incline that is just as good. Josephine

How do you know you're full?
Elode replied to annasledge's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well A: you eat slow and wait for the signal or B: you eat too fast and feel like sh*t! Bam then you know! - I have a built in signal a burp/hiccup thing but I usually end up with Situation B because I have NEVER been good at eating slow and I never Learn my lesson -
My surgeon specifically told me before surgery that fuming and doing weights would slow down the weight loss process... So he advised not to do any of that till 10-12 months post op if I wanted to lose more weight and fast.

I am a bit confused...why would he be reluctant to give a fill if you had ONLY lost 20 lbs in 8 weeks? There are several inconsistencies there. First, band patients should expect 1-2 lbs per week loss. You were above that. So I could see being reluctant because you were losing so well. If he thought you were losing too slowly, then I'd expect him to be eager to give you a fill to help you lose faster....? The fact that you are too tight after a fill you requested is not your fault, we (the patient, nor the doctor) have any way of knowing how we will react to a fill. Following the no food in the classroom I get. But there is no other time you can have a small nutritious snack? Eating something healthful in front of the children could make you a roll model, especially as to get fit and lose weight. If you are getting so hungry that you are causing yourself to eat too fast, then perhaps a note from your doctor that you'll need to eat a small something between classes will help you. Going from 5:30 am until noon is a very long stretch, especially when many of us cannot eat much if anything first thing in the morning.

I hate cooking - with a passion! Complicate things with a busy lifestyle, and it was always about fast-food or prepared foods. (Clearly, it's one of the reasons I ended up this way.) I have to learn to fix things on my on at home. Any good WSL cookbooks you could recommend that focuses on very simple and fast recipes? Thanks! ICanDoThisVA

LOL I wanted "unleashing the skinny bitch" but it wouldn't fit! I called my nurse about this litttle pain I get every once in awhile...apparently I'm drinking too fast/too big of gulps. Back to sipping I go!

I have no idea how much fill I get, my doctor does not believe it is important for the patient to know such things. (To see how AWESOME my doctor is, read my last two threads) My doctor threw a fit about giving me my first fill because I had only lost 20 pounds in 8 weeks, and his words I was not taking this 10,000 dollar surgery seriously. I basically had to beg him to give me any sort of fill, so I REALLY don't want to call him and ask him to take some out. One of the biggest issues I have is my new work schedule. I leave for work at 5:45, but lunch isn't until almost noon. Our school has a STRICT no food policy in the classroom, for teachers and students, and I try to be a role model for my kids, so Im making a huge effort not to eat anything in front of them, although I do drink Water. Our lunch break is only 22 minutes, so I know I am stuffing my face with my lunch as fast as I can. Im going to have to make a huge effort to take my time in between bites and savor my food.

I'm Back......and DISAPPOINTED
babedoe4 replied to Tracyde730's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tracyd730, It goes soooo fast, you'd be surprised. Look at it like this, we waited this long to make the decision, a few more months won't hurt. I was for the summer, moved due to insurance 6 mos wait. Than for jan7, than moved for feb 4th and finally banded feb 4th. It was annoying but well worth the wait.Good luck and hang in there -
FRICK AND FRACK FOOD COMMERCIALS
Amanda131 replied to USMCwifeandTEACHER's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That first week of recovery that I spent mostly in a recliner in front of the T.V. was a bit tortorous. It was the damn pizza commericials that about made me crazy. At one point, I switched to watching the DVR so I could fast forward through the damn things. Hang in there! Amanda -
Anyone been thru TLCEdge Weight Loss Center?
momwifelove posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in Texas and I am going thru TLCEdge Weight Loss Center. I was just wandering if anyone had been thru it and if so how was your experience. Everything has been moving so fast for me so I am just like WOW. I am self pay & I went to the seminar on June 30 & I am scheduled for my surgery on July 29. I am excited but just wandering if anyone else had been thru them. Thanks for any help. -
so what kind are you trying? My favorite is Muscle Milk 🍓. I also like part of the Premier Protein flavors, wondered why I couldn't find any at my Wal-Mart, then I read they are embroiled in a lawsuit. Dont know if they, arent shipping or Wal-Mart,isn't ordering. Do NOT buy their, house brand Equate it is VILE beyond all understanding! I would drink Slim-Fast first and I Do Not,Like it, not even before starting Bariatrics.

..alright I know, yuck but I think it's something that needs to be addressed. Before I had surgery I was petrified of throwing up post-op, I had tons of Zofran and worried about it a lot. After having both a sleeve then a revision to bypass I just wanted to let people know my experience with it and have a place to talk about other's experiences to hopefully alleviate some pre-op worries! So, it's not fun but it's not life-ending like I thought it would be. If you eat too much, it actually feels better to get it out..please try to avoid this and never ever ever make yourself throw up on purpose to get rid of pain. Your body will tell you if you messed up and if you have to throw up, take some deep breaths and just let your body naturally get rid of whatever it needs to. I fought my body a dozen times, tried to take Zofran when I just needed to relax and let myself throw up and once I did it, I felt so much better. It's not any worse than throwing up from the flu and in fact, USUALLY you only throw up for a few minutes and then it's over. So, be very very careful not to eat too much but if you mess up (which will happen) just try to calmly let your body decide how to fix it. In my experience, I got way too worked up and scared over how bad it would hurt to throw up when really it's not so scary and is really no different post-op then it is pre-op. Now, as a disclaimer..if you are throwing up regularly or if you are throwing up and you know it wasn't because you did something wrong (ate too fast, had too much, didn't chew well enough, had too big of a bite, etc.) you NEED to call your doctor..right away! Throwing up is not something that should be happening very often and if it is, something could be wrong and you must let your doctor know ASAP! I'd love for others to post their experiences as well because I think it would have helped me to read something like this before I had surgery because most of the time..mental fears are WAY worse than reality!

Jean, The "How Much" is secondary to "What" I'm eating. I just fixed stuffed zucchini for tonight's dinner...but it has no rice or breading in it. I'll probably end up eating my portion tomorrow. Last night, we were out, so we stopped for a very early dinner at a local restaurant chain. Husband ordered the (huge) 1/2 chicken and a mini-slab of ribs dinner. I ordered my own cup of Soup. They had three selections, and I decided against the chicken tortilla, because the tortilla can turn into glue once inside me. I debated between the tomato basil artichoke soup and the garden veggie soup...opted for the far more fattening tomato soup, because I had (yet again) been having a little reflux and wanted little to chew. My husband ate his soup and the chicken breast and a little of the ribs...and the veggies and his potato whilst I diddled with my soup. Just about the time we were ready to leave, my stoma opened itself and I nibbled on a very little meat. When we got home, I had a little more meat. Breakfast this am was half of an organic instant oatmeal packet. I put in about a teaspoon of Peanut Butter and some soy milk...and, of course, real maple syrup to sweeten it. lunch was a few bites out of a Del Taco beef burrito. I brought it home and ate SOME of the meat filling and no tortilla. I just finished a little more chicken (I think it was my dinner) and feeling like THAT was a bargain meal, as the bread and one veggie are still in the fridge. I don't think I'm too tight. I think I'm too old. (On a number of levels.) My brain does not get the "That's enough! Stop right there!" message. My brain gets the "Now you've done it...you've already eaten too much!" message. Esophageal motility--how fast the esophagus processes the food, moving it where it needs to go--slows with age. So, I think what happens is that it takes so long for the food to get to where it's going that I keep eating too much, too fast. The other part of the age thing is, of course, that we old dogs sometimes take a tad longer to learn new tricks. I can eat lots of stuff. But things that get in the esophagus and sit there and start to absorb liquids and swell (breads, pastas, rice, dry meats, etc.) will make me miserable. Some banded can eat anything, but many have issues with the same foods. It's all a matter of learning what YOU can eat. Sue

Hello. I am 16 months post-op and 9 weeks pregnant. I refused to take the sugar drink that the doctors usually test you for gestational diabetes (GD) as was instructed by my surgeon. Now the doctors are having me take my blood twice a day for a week now, a week at 24 weeks and a week at 30 weeks. I have to take my blood when I am fasting for 8-10 hours and then again 2 hours after my biggest meal. I am having a problem with my sugar levels when I take my blood during the fasting part. The doc wants my sugar levels to be under 95 and so far I have tested over 95 everyday with the exception of one day where it was 88. When I test myself 2 hours after my biggest meal I always come in under the 125 that the doc wants me to be under. Has anyone else come across this issue with being over the target numbers? Has anyone else had or have GD? I'd love to hear about someone else's situation. ~Thanks!

I need help with this problem of getting stuck in front of other people
Just Banded posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I notice this has been happening quite a bit lately! I get really nervous eating out with friends because everyone is eating so fast and I get "nervous" that they are going to notice I am taking my sweet time! Last night I ordered a cup of soup- hoping the warm broth would open me up a little so I could eat without any problems, but then my dinner came (1/4 rotisserie chicken, vetables and mashed potatoes) AND I totally pbed from one bite! I was extra careful to chewing- but I just get so nervous! By the time I was done with my Soup broth- they were done with their meals and by the time I was out of the bathroom it's even MORE awkward because I have to get a to go box and everyone is wondering why I didn't eat! This happens quite often and I don't know what to do because they are going to think I am really weird or anorexic and bulemic! (don't really want everyone to know about my band- because no one who doesn't have the band could possibly understand all this craziness) It really is like russian roulette with me- not knowing when I can eat and when I can't! I don't want to become some social recluse that can't eat out with friends! and just ordering soup all the time and slider foods isn't going to help my weight! If anyone out there has gone thru this and can relate and offer some advice- please please help me! -
Yes I am tooo. I was doing intermittent fasting since March of last year, not only did I lose weight but cravings for snacking and eating in general. Since I hav been in stage Puree I’m hungry all the time. I hate this feeling, it seems the only thing that helps is scrambled eggs with a slice of cheese. Just saying that makes me hungry, I really don’t want to go into my eating phase feeling like this!

When did you have surgery? You may want to check with your dietician and hire a sports medicine dietician. Trust the professionals over my two cents 😉 What works for me, may not work for you. I carb load (seven days) and do a pre race and taper. I eat low glycemic carbohydrates. Sweet potatoes, fruits, veggies, oatmeal, whole wheat with my protein. Hydration NUUN tabs/electrolytes added to my water in my hydration vest. I add powdered carbs to my water for calories. I run fasted race day. (I don’t eat products with sugar - example running gels/Gatorade) these links will give you an idea of how athletes fuel. https://www.foodcoach.me/eat-runningbiking-weight-loss-surgery/ https://keepmovingweekly.com/2015/06/11/nutrition-for-the-bariatric-athlete-endurance-events/ Running taper: https://www.teamhotshot.com/blog/tips-taper-race-day/ https://www.runnersworld.com/training/a20072822/marathon-taper/ runners stomach https://www.bucketlisttummy.com/5-nutrition-tips-to-help-runners-stomach/
