    Get your proteins and vitamins in or else you'll continue to feel like crap and it'll only get worse! And I'm 4 months post op and have only lost 67 pounds since my surgery so you're losing weight at a FAST pace, not a slow one!

    you really need to see your surgeon. First of all, you should NOT be only eating once a day. I ate at least three times a day - sometimes more (I sometimes had a snack). And yes - most people do lose their hunger for the first several months after surgery - that part is completely normal. And for 99% of us, it comes back sometime during that first year. Mine came roaring back at five months out. Like you, I had pretty much zero interest in food the first few months. But that's one of the beauties of this thing - you'll never lose weight this fast in your life since you're never hungry and could care less about food! drink your protein shakes. You need the nutrition or you're going to get sick. If you don't like them, then try another brand. dehydration does make people feel sick. How much fluid are you drinking a day?

    June 2020 surgeries

    I am getting more and more nervous about the surgery myself, especially when I read from those who have had complications, but I know that this is necessary for me to live a better life and be capable of taking care of myself and those around me.. which also makes me quite excited! My husband is going on night shifts (for the week) starting tonight and normally I stay up all night with him, but since my surgery is going to be at 7:15AM, and I have to fast, I would like to sleep through it.. I also don't want to be too grouchy at the hospital due to being tired and hangry.. >.< I am due to get my coronavirus test done this Saturday and then Monday is game time..!

    June 2020 surgeries

    I alternate between completely freaked out and wanting to back out, to thinking of every possible bad outcome and complication, to logically knowing this is the best chance I have at success and instead of imagining the worst case, imagining the best case. My brain is a bit in overdrive, I think! This pre-op process has been so hard - but I've done it. I've cooked for my family, I've even picked up fast food for them, and I haven't cheated. That willpower has to mean something. Not sure I've been quite this committed before. So yes, I'm all over the place in how I'm feeling! Super emotional. And a little terrified of vomiting post op. I don't know why I have such a fear of that - but I do. I should probably explore it with my therapist. I have a session tomorrow. Anxiety brain isn't always rational 🙂

    actually, at a certain point, you're going to have loose skin regardless of how fast or slow the weight comes off. If you've been significantly obese for awhile, that skin is really stretched. I don't know how much taking it off slowly will help, to be honest. If it does, it may not be by much.

    This comment is not a “nananabooboo” kind of comment. I am 3 1/2 months out of surgery. Vsg on feb 17. I’ve lost 70 pounds. I know, great. Yes, I want to lose weight. It was the whole point. I do not want to STOP losing either, BUT losing this much this fast has been ALARMING. It has also caused some weird chin sagging. There’s benefit to slow and steady. Rebuilding your mental awareness that accompanies good life long habits. It will give your skin a chance to spring back. I’m going to need some after care plastics. I’m not looking forward to more surgery. I hope this was a positive message.

    I agree with above! You body is fighting back and you need to fight back harder! A few things that worked for me at the end was to do some Intermittent fasting, Mix up my calorie intakes one day really low next day 1200. Worked for me
  10. At 10+ years post op I'm also battling ups and downs. My story is different from yours but the bottom line is getting rid of the excess weight. Have you considered options besides revision surgery? I'm likely covered for revision despite relatively low regain due to other health issues. You may improve your chances of approval by focusing on co morbidities caused by regain. A revision would be successful, but until I live differently I may face the same situation in another 10 years. My BEHAVIOR caused my weight gain. INTERMITTENT FASTING is helping me control this need to be full. I'm training my body and brain to understand that feeling hunger is not the same as starvation. It is helping me to drop the pounds and revise my attitude towards food. Jason Fung (search YouTube and online) and others have been my guides. My desire to be full is my eating disorder. Fasting helps me to focus on nutrition and understand when I need to eat vs when I want to eat. As an advocate of health at any size, my diet for life keeps me in good health. Periodically I tweak my program because of metabolism issues. When I stay with my program I maintainin. When I slip from my program the need to get full emerges. Diets to reset my pouch as someone already suggested work well for me. However, eventually I want to feel fullness again and I'm attempting to reset more and more often. This is why I'm working to become content with an empty belly and a well nourished body. I wish you successful weight loss and good health however you decide to accomplish your goals.

    Dumping

    P.S. I've never dumped, but I used to vomit occasionally if I ate too fast, too much, or if something didn't agree with me (and that was NOT dumping). Of course, I will still vomit (five years later) if I eat too fast or too much, but you pretty much figure out the first few weeks after surgery what doesn't agree with you. So the situation you described (having to vomit while you're eating out somewhere) sometimes happens during the early post-op period, but once you figure out what your body can tolerate, it's pretty rare unless you overeat or eat too fast. also, you'll get all the usual "I have to vomit" symptoms and can make it to a bathroom in time, so it's not like you're going to do in the middle of a restaurant. also, vomiting is WAY easier after surgery. I wouldn't say it's PLEASANT, but it's a lot less dreadful than it is before surgery. Not much contents in your stomach. And not nearly as much acid in there, either, so you don't get that awful taste in your mouth.

    I am 6 months out now and on a regular high protein/low carb diet. I do not have trouble drinking and food does not go right through me. I have always tended to have constipation problems anyway. I take miralax every day. I have had maybe twice in the last 6 months that I needed to get to the bathroom quickly. Usually movements are normal though. I still have trouble eating things like steak, pork or smoked sausage if it has the skin on it. Nothing horrible or too hard to avoid though. I get very full on small amounts of dense protein. If I eat too fast and/ or too much it makes me sick. remember that your pyloric(sp?)valve is no longer intact like it was with the sleeve so you should not have trouble drinking with bypass. one word of advice is to take probiotics. I take them daily and could be another reason that I am able to stay regular.

    How fast things change.....I was definitely in denial when I wrote this post, I thought surely ESG failure wouldn't happen to me. I had a surgical sleeve mid March after finding out most of my suture had come undone.

    Depression meds and WLS

    Hi there, I rarely open this app but I share this experience. Perhaps after so long I was called online by your post? Lol The short answer is yes you can lose weight and stay on your meds. Your personal experience may differ from that of others but you can still be successful. Now the long answer: I'm over ten years post op and I have used a variety of what I call "My personal crazy pills" long before having gastric bypass surgery. I still take a combination of meds today. Please note that I am not applying my description of my drugs to you. I use this catch all phrase "tongue in cheek" rather go through the list of med cocktails I've had over time. My weight loss was painfully slow. Everyone does not have that quick pounds off honeymoon period we hear about. This was disheartening because I had no warning. FOLLOW YOUR PLAN TO THE LETTER! Many meds interfere with weight loss even immediately after surgery. I experienced rapid weight gain within the first two weeks. Fortunately, I had a great surgeon who understood this. I started as a size 2x in LizClaiborne/ EvanPicone clothing and I've maintained a 2/4 in BananaRepublic/ AnneTaylor sizes. It took me over a year and a half to get there while others lost the same amount of weight in under half that time. Despite weight changes I have never bought a larger size and I shop with a tape measure to be certain of this. Like most, I have had some regain and re loss but overall I'm keeping the weight off. I'm a long time user of a variety of meds that could negatively effect anyone's weight loss. Steroids plus a few other daily meds top up "My personal crazy pills". You can do just fine with what my doctor called metabolic challenges. Keep in mind slow weight loss does not mean you won't have long term success. Permanent weight loss is more important than fast weight loss. Follow your health plan and build physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Avoid comparing yourself to others. You don't know how another's story truly compares to your own. With commitment you'll be sharing your positive experience with someone else a decade from now. YOU CAN DO THIS!
  15. I’m also in Indiana. I was originally scheduled for March 24. My new date is June 4. I was told they are evaluating each case individually and not just by original date. They are slowly resuming all surgeries and there is a lot of competition for operating room time. They said I am getting in early because I am low risk. I was also among the most screwed by the Governor’s executive order. If I were just a week earlier, I would have made it through. Long frustrating story short... No one really knows anything about what to expect from the fallout of this pandemic. We can share stories, but it’s just anecdotal and won’t provide any hard & fast realistic expectations. I have spent the extra time reading through education resources, experimenting with protein sources, cutting bad habits, and trying to drop a few pounds. Hang in there. I know it’s hard.

    Protein Shake Recommendations, Please

    I just buy the Wal-Mart brand protein shakes in either Vanilla or Chocolate. I have a co-worker who had Gastric Bypass and she swears by the Slim Fast High Protein shakes (they're 20g protein) and her preference is the coffee flavored ones (Mocha Cappucino and Caramel Latte), but I haven't tried them because I don't like coffee...
  17. Jami 1992... can't tell you how much I appreciate hearing you say you're doing great 2 weeks out. What is your secret? Do you have a protein drink you enjoy? Pushing thru the head-hunger? You're a lot younger than I am so I imagine you're a fast healer. What is your final goal weight? I have the weight my surgeon said was one I might achieve with the short bypass (165) and then my ideal weight goal (150). Lily66, Jami, do you know the length of your bypass?

    Everyone is different been said above. But you may want to spend just a little money and get a Nutritionist to help mix up your diet. You body is sayin F@#ck No i want to keep it, You are saying Nope gotta go! So let the battle begin - I would mix up the Carbs and calories different each week. I did it and it really worked, I had a Nutra person to lead me. Sunday - Sunday next week - Go real low calories, 900 or less, As much water as you can, Up your cabs 10% Sunday - Sunday following week - 1100 calories mostly veggies but Higher Protein - lower water Sunday - Sunday 3 rd week - Intermingling fasting, All protein low calories Low carbs You get the point you are changing your calories, carbs and proteins each week to trick your body into burning, The fasting was a key for me broke everything free Good luck stay focused you will win this battle
  20. Hi everyone, I wanted to reach and out and see if anyone has experienced neck pain after eating. I had VSG Dec 16, 2019. By the time I was cleared to everything, I started noticing that I would get pretty sharp neck pain if I ate too much or too fast. This is really starting to get bothersome as now I notice it at every meal (which I can assure you I do not over eat)... and the pain is quite unsettling. I am hoping to do a virtual chat with my surgeon but it’s very difficult to get a hold of him. any one else experience this type of pain? Would love your feedback. thanks! Neda

    January 2020 Surgery Folks

    So I also try to only eat meals. I will “snack” if I feel the head hunger uncontrollably hungry feeling. And it’s a cheese stick a couple cashews. A 1/4 of an Apple. But I wake up and eat two egg whites. With salt and pepper every morning and drink water throughout. I eat “lunch” at about 12 or 1. And it’s something small like a cheese stick and 1/4 of an orange or just something to get in my tummy. I also eat the belveta crackers they r for breakfast but I eat them for lunch lol I also like to eat a chicken thigh boneless skinless for lunch if I remember to bake them ahead of time lol then I eat dinner and that’s really small also. I just throw something together. Tonight I had an apple and cashew butter and celery and ranch. I love quinoa when I FEEL HUNGRY. ( I still get those fat girl IM F’ing HUNGRY moments lol) and also chia pudding. They both have protein and are healthy. I also like for breakfast on hot mornings over night oats. Oats,honey,chia seeds and milk simple and fast. It took me getting out of my comfort foods. And once I stopped them for a couple months. I started new foods. I fell in love with new foods. Also so many people doctors included say a pouch reset doesn’t work. It worked with me!!! During my girl time of the month I get f’ing hungry lol and I did a ten day pouch reset and it limited my eating like crazy. If you want the site i used I can link it. When I was obese I was a snacker. So I noticed I can’t Do that. Or I will get fat again. So I try really hard to stay with three meals. And breakfast being my biggest to fuel my day. And dinner being my smallest to end my day light and give my body time to digest. And I like to intermittent fast. There r apps for it. I try to not eat past 6pm.

  23. I’m no longer obese!!!! I have been obese since I’m 5 years old. This is an amazing accomplishment for me. I never thought I’d get to this point. I can go shopping in whichever store I fancy. My last shopping trip EVERY item I took into the dressing room FIT! I had to get out of there fast. I came home and balled my eyes out... it’s crazy!!!! I am so thankful for this... I can’t explain the emotion going on inside me so I won’t try, all I’m going to say is, if anyone out there is considering surgery but is scared, PLEASE do this for yourself! I promise it will be the best decision you’ll ever make!

    Advice Needed

    It's working for me. I'm almost five months post op and have lost nearly 80lbs. *Fizzy drinks are a no from my doctor, but I've heard mostly because the carbonation would be painful for your banana-sized stomach. *Every surgery center is different. I've seen some people on the diet for one day prior, or on it for two weeks prior (like myself). *It wasn't the surgery that was painful, actually. I was in mild discomfort, but I was fine with just tylenol afterwards. It's the gas that hurts- just means you need to move, move, move. Lots of walking is very helpful. And how light is light? I was told nothing heavier than 15lbs for three months. *It also depends on how you heal. I was eating solids a month after surgery (SOFT solids, but solids). I'm eating crunchy things now, but it did take me about two months before I could without discomfort. *If I overeat, I feel bloated and sick. I haven't vomited yet, but I've had water/food just sit in my throat and come back up before. It's why you eat slow and don't drink while you eat. You eventually get used to it so it's second nature, but in the beginning, I used a timer to help me while I was eating so I wouldn't overindulge. *I feel like it slowly expands. When I first started out, I was barely making 300 calories a day. I'm almost 5 months out and eat between 600-800 calories a day, currently. I eat about 2oz worth of meat with each meal, and that is just enough to not make me overfull. *Strangely, I cannot eat tuna anymore. Like canned tuna. The smell completely turns me off. My husband has ordered fries before from fast food places and the smell of that makes me gag. A lot of food tastes and smells will change for you, but mostly in a good way. I crave healthy foods now (though I occasionally miss the bad foods, it's not as hard to stay away from them now). *Not at all. I even had complications with my gallbladder failing right afterwards and I still would do it again. Just wish I had done it sooner, is all. It's scary- it's life changing. But if it's something that can potentially add years to my life, it's worth it.

    No i totally understand Keto! The Miami diet, Dr akins, Slim fast, Oprah, and all the other diet plans ...........I can read! What I am saying is that is a diet, You need a lifetime balanced healthy eating schedule Not a diet. You are not on a diet, The Vets here will also tell you this. Took me a few months to read this site to figure that out, Bottom line You are on a lifestyle eating habits change for the better for life! Nobody said eat carbs or junk food. Took me a while to realize post WLS i was not on a diet, I was changing insane eating behavior and eating healthy and properly for life. During my journey except for some fasting was i never on a Diet. I understand it is not easy to get on this type of eating routine, But it is not a Diet it is your journey and your meal planning being healthy and under control that will give you what you are looking for.
