    Going to be Revised

It would be the VSG that I would be revising to. My insurance covers revisions, but we need to appeal for the Sleeve specifically. The reason for the weight gain, is that with a slipped over tightened band, your pouch and esophagus stretches out, allowing much more food than we are used too. There are days when I am constantly hungry and can eat way too much, and other days when a hand full of nuts makes me puke all day. Sucks.

    Alcohol calories same as others?

no violation of laws, simply a matter of not assuming that metabolic rates are a constant function driven by nothing other than weight/age, (e.g., all 250 lb women lose weight if they eat 1200 calories) and that individual "machines" (humans) process information/calories differently, and that many other factors impact weight gain and loss rather than just calories in/calories out.
  3. I agree stay off the scale, your body is doing it's own thing during your cycle any way. You are young. Just keep doing the right things and weigh yourself once a week and allow water weight gain during your cycle.
  4. Hey guys. I had POSE in June 2011. Lost 61 lbs and was within 25 lbs of goal when I got pregnant (which is one reason I had the procedure). Had our miracle baby in Nov 2012, lost all the weight from pregnancy, picked back up with bootcamps and started cross fit. Had to quit cross fit in November 2014 and in March the weight started piling back on. Lack of exercise, my stomach was stretched back out prior to the weight gain, I just kept the weight off with a buttload of working out and only maintained. Multiple nodules were found on my thyroid but benign, have PCOS...so a couple things working against me there plus what I caused myself. Anyway, now I've gained right at 30 lbs and will be going for a revision soon. There's more to my story but just wanted to share a little about me. Right now, I'm just wondering how many here have had POSE and revised to sleeve? Sleeve is what I originally wanted but insurance won't cover and I was scared of complications. Hindsight being 20/20, I should have done sleeve to begin with. If you're revised from POSE, please share your experience with me. Thank you in advance!
  5. Since my surgery on 22 OCtober, I have lost about 25 pounds. BUT since my first adjustment, which was on 17 November, I have only lost MAYBE 3 pounds. It's almost four weeks now. I don't feel "full" after eating, and matter of fact, I can eat the same amount that I did prior to the surgery. I am scheduled for another adjustment in 10 days. My doctor did say that until the band was properly inflated properly and that since sometimes trial and error was best before the optimum fill level had been reached, that I would see less weight gain. Has ANYONE else had this issue or should I just be patient?
  6. We're getting so close, and I was finally able to get my maternity photo shoot done so thought I would share with everyone. Update on the medical stuff super fast; 2 weeks ago I was put on prednisone to help my platelets stabilize. They had dropped down into the 70Ks and normal is 150-400K, the anesthesiologist didn't feel comfortable with my numbers that low to have an epidural or spinal block so the steroid therapy is the only thing that they could give me to get my numbers up. 10 days on the pred and my numbers are up to 121k, still not within normal range, but over the 85k that is needed for the spinal WOOT WOOT. If it weren't for VSG, I would not be able to have this treatment. I thank God every day that VSG was possible because if I would have gone with RNY, I'd be looking at general anesthesia for delivery since steroids would cause major issues with a pouch. We're scheduled for the csection on 1 November. I'm so ready for her to get here. This last Thursday, I was released from the high risk ob because everything is spot on for both of us. Tatum is now weighing 6.5-7lbs, and I'm super uncomfortable. Hanging in there, and trying to stay off my feet. Luckily, I have had zero side effects from the pred other than major hunger, and major irritability. I have officially gained 35lbs, and will probably gain at least 5-7lbs due to the prednisone therapy that I have to stay on until delivery. I gained 5lbs in just a week once I started the pred. But, the doctors are elated with my progress and honestly, I do not care anymore about the weight. I'm just ready for her to get here, and be done being pregnant. Thank you all for your continued support, encouragement and friendship ! ! ! Maternity picture time 10 days from delivery - weight gain to date 35lbs Life is well pretty fantabulous ! ! !

    Still Here

So I'm still here. Sorry to be so scarce lately. I've been a little depressed and super busy. I just haven't been losing the way I had hoped and still struggling with weight gain when I have my TOM. Sucks! No worries though, I'm not giving up. (LOL like I have that choice.) I did get my second fill but it doesn't seem to be nearly enough. Plan on getting another one soon and hopefully that will put me into the full swing weight loss that I see everyone else on. Maybe by Christmas I'll be at goal. It is good to see everyone else doing so well. Keep up the good work! It is inspiring to see your numbers drop. Be well, be happy, and hugs to all, Julz~
  8. Stalls are a normal part of weight loss that just about everyone experiences (search this site for “three week stall” and you’ll see thousands of results). This won’t be the last time you stop seeing your scale move for a little while before starting up again. in your case, though, I’m not sure I’d even call it a stall. This soon after WLS, you shouldn’t even be looking at the scale. Your body went through a lot during surgery and it has to adjust to the changes. While you were in the hospital, I’m sure they pumped you full of IV fluids, and that alone can cause weight gain. I actually weighed more at my one-week follow-up than I did right before surgery (my surgeon didn’t care — at that point, he was more interested in how I was healing from the surgery). You should also be aware that since you’re starting at a relatively low BMI, your weight loss is likely to be slower than someone starting out 100 pounds higher than you, so don’t get discouraged by comparing your weight loss with anyone else’s. A lot of people only weigh themselves once a week so they don’t get freaked out by normal fluctuations or stalls, and you might want to consider that.

    Buyers remorse hits hard

I'm a week and a half post surgery and I have been going through this. What makes it worse is that I started my period 2 days after being discharged from the hospital and my mother in law was here to help so obviously my family still has to eat, but just smelling the food made me break down a few times. I'm sure there will be many more of them to come, but it's strange because food itself has never been a comfort to me, I am not an emotional eater, I don't snack and I don't really do sweets. I think the problem I am having is that all things in the full liquid phase is basically sweet, protein options are all sweet, drink mixes are sweet, jello-sweet, everything aside from broth which only goes so far for me as a person that would much rather have something savory and salty. I had surgery due to weight gain after total thyroid removal has made gain weight and made it impossible to lose weight, I had been killing myself for a long time to even lose 5 pounds and doctors said this was a viable option to help me. We eat well and healthy on a regular basis here at home and all I want is some damn chicken and tomatoes or deli sliced turkey with cheese rolled up into it and here I am drinking another damn shake! It's a short time but that doesn't mean it still doesn't suck and anyone who said they didn't have an issue like this and didn't have "buyers remorse" at some point in their journey is a damn liar! Hope things get better for you, I know I'm trying to take every day as it comes even if it comes with tears.
  10. I too have suffered from depression that led to excessive weight gain -- I started with going to my GP and getting some medication for the depression and also started therapy to deal with the head issues plaguing me. I then went to the www.lapband.com website to find a doctor and seminar near me -- I made sure to find a doctor well-qualified with the Lapband procedure and after several months of research I made the decision to go ahead with the procedure. I am in California and my doctor is Carson Liu -- he has done over 4,000 procedures and is one of the leaders in perfecting it over the years. His practice navigated the insurance for me and I was qualified and had the procedure 2 weeks ago. This is the first time in several years that I now have hope of overcoming this weight issue and getting healthier and happier! Take all the steps to a happier life for yourself - you are young and you are worth it! Tackle the depression so that you are in a better frame of mind for the procedure as it still is work to change your lifestyle. I wish you luck and perseverance to get started to a healthier happier life! Deb
  11. I am only a week post op. But my surgeon told me to weight daily. If I gain 3 lbs that is a fluctuation and if I gain 4 lbs its an actual weight gain. Gaining the weight back is the biggest fear for me since I had the lap band and lost 100 lbs then gained back 87bs when my band slipped and they removed all the saline.

    Hard times

34 lbs in 2 months is an awesome accomplishment in itself. Don't beat yourself up because you feel you should've lost more. Just move forward. Make sure you are eating healthy and exercising. Eventually the weight will come off. If you feel you are eating more than you should be go get a fill. Don't obsess over what the scale says because that will get you all frustrated and stressed out which will result in weight gain.
  13. I am not banded yet and i am not pregnant, I have read a ton of the post on here about people getting concerned about gaining weight during pregnancy. I understand that we all have issues with weight gain but you are supposed to gain weight when you are preggers. it's healthy. a ton of weight gain is not healthy but a little is fine. like i said i understand that everyone on this site for the most part has issues with weight gain, my question is why don't people understand that it's normal an healthy for pregnancy, and stop beating yourselfs up over it? I know this might sound come across as rude but its not i promise i am just curious.

    Weight gain panic?

Look, when we reach another diet stage we begin to test the waters. I remember trying pretzel chips and beef Jerky bites. Ok, not trying them, but it was a love for weeks. I could eat 'real foods!' I couldn't understand why the scale wasn't moving anymore and I was gaining 2-3 pounds. So, I stopped buying that stuff and went back to the original plan and slowly the weight started coming back off. Your weight gain could easily be from salt intake or adding crackers and stuff like that. Go back and read what they say about other food types and make sure you are drinking your Water. Good luck you can do this!

    So... What too EAT??

Congrats!! I am 29 weeks pregnant, and didnt start gaining until i was about 22 weeks, now i am up 15 pounds, I know that seems like a lot but my ob was worried since I wasnt gaining. You know with the nausea you just eat what you can. I had a total unfill at 11 weeks b/c the nausea was so bad, i also had kidney stones and had to up my fluid intake. just eat well, meat fruits and veggies and you will be fine, enjoy the no weight gain while it lasts lol, it will come as the baby grows. i would still drink skim milk though the fat you are probably using more than the baby this early in the game, my ob said in the 2nd trimester 200 add'l calories and the 3rd 350-400 addl cal. that;s just 2 cookies!! you know the cravings get you sometimes! congrats!!!
  16. Hi all, I am new to the site and not sure where to put this... I was banded back in May 2004. I have lost about 55kgs and am now about 85kgs - still wanting to lose at least 15-20 kgs. I have read others posts about how slow the weight loss can be. Initially, I lost weight very slowly, then it picked up, and now it is slow again. Part of the reason for it being so slow at the moment is that I appear to have become fixated by all the foods that I CAN eat with the band but SHOULDN'T eg. chocolate, icecream, chips etc.... I went without these for AGES and it seems as though now I have tried them again I can't stop. I have had to had my band loosened recently because it was forming a "pouch" over top of the band which was causing problems. (The doctor said it was too tight - I thought it was great because it really limited my food intake....). SO, bottom line - I guess I had hoped not to revert to my "old" ways of eating and suddenly I find myself doing this (but with a slightly different kind of food..) Bottom Line?? Weight Gain. I got down to 83kgs, then went up to about 90kg, back down to 84 and now up again to 85/86 kgs. How do others cope with the cravings of the food that does actually go through the band. One think I have learned - you still need lots of willpower with a band. What do others think? Its driving me crazy!! Kaysha.:help:
  17. Hello all, I have been on this forum many times as a reader only so here goes. I have just finished everything that is required for VSG, having a EGD done on tues am, after that just need insurance approval, during my 6 month diet i actually lost and gained with the last months weight up 10 pounds from 6 month diet start. During this six months our home was flooded during the flooding back in april and we were displaced and it was hard to eat healthy and stay focused due to having to eat all meals out in addition to being stressed to the max, our home is in the flood zone and we were expected to have 6-10 foot of river Water in our basement (GROSS) I did gain then, also my meds for high blood pressure started to cause my legs and ankles to swell, and i mean my feet, ankles and calves were all the same size from my knee down, extremely painful and difficult to exercise, i didnt gain but didnt lose either. During my last 6 month I had all my blood work done and it was found that my thyroid levels have gotten higher and my primary care provider said there was no way that i would lose weight with that going on and not being treated correctly, all of this of course is dictated in my records. My question is this: has anyone had insurance (or weight loss surgeon) denie surgery for a weight gain of 10 pound?
  18. I am a 37 year old male that has always struggles with my weight. Multiple diets that did nothing more than induce degrees of yo-yo weight gain/loss. I have been a type 1 diabetic since age 7, and now deal with type 2 as well. I have finally made the decision to consider VSG. I am in the baby stages. I have gone to the first seminar and have scheduled my first appointment. I am a bit nervous of the road ahead, but with a brand new baby at home, and my co-morbidities, I fear not seeing her graduate high school even more. I am seeing Dr. Jeffrey Johnsrud at St. Josephs in OC. The whole process is intimidating to me down to and including complications. I am an ICU Nurse and see a lot of normal procedure go wrong, but I keep telling myself I only see a small fraction of bad when overwhelmingly results are great.
  19. Based upon my recent HIM performance, I'd say the issue isn't Shot Bloks. They do not have enough calories in them to cause weight gain, especially for a century or even a 50 miler. One Clif Bar has more calories in it than two packages of SB, and that'd still not be enough to properly fuel you. I drank 2 entire bottles of Gatorade, which is about 400 calories or more, and it wasn't even close to enough fuel for me to get through the run leg. In fact, I felt the first twinge of a cramp at mile 45 of the bike leg.. Granted, it was 90 degrees out, but you could eat cheesecake on a 50 mile ride, and other than the GI distress, the calories would mean next to nothing. Your BMR plus exercise would significantly reduce the caloric intake/burn rate to even levels.

    Gaining weight back

I'm so sorry that you have to go thru this with your mom. It' is so hard to have your life changed and all out of whack too. I think you are very courageous> I also took care of my Mom and my Mother in Law in their last days. It was very hard to leave to go even to the store. You worry the whole time you are gone. Maybe you can go back to your basic program. I know it will be hard but you don't want your weight gains to continue. I would go back to measuring everything. Write everything you eat and drink down in a journal. It helps when you can actually, see where you are at. I don't know if this will help but good luck. BTW be sure you are getting your water and protein in.

    Food Funeral

food funerals are a very common topic on this website. I struggle to understand it, but that's just my own experience. I paid out of pocket for the procedure and so I was committed with my mind and pocketbook to making sure I am successful, no matter what. When I received my preop and post op plans, I started comparing all my food choices against my surgeon's directions. If it was something I shouldn't be eating to be successful after surgery, I tried to cut it out before starting the process. I ended up doing an extra few weeks of preop because I was anxious to get the ball rolling. The kinds of foods I crave are my nemesis, not my friends. I wouldn't mourn the loss of someone that ruined my life and ditto for the foods that contributed to my weight gain. Good riddance, I say.

    antidepressants and the sleeve?

I love my Wellbutrin-I had no weight gain with it....
  25. I was stalled forever and then suddenly, after kicking artificial sweeteners to the curb and drinking plain water (advice from my nutritionist), my stall ended and I have lost 4 pounds! A call with my nutritionist today was even more eye opening... she said, "don't be afraid of a little sugar!" Here's what that means.. Artificial sweeteners can be, for some, tougher to break down than regular sugar. Sure, regular sugar isn't good for you in large doses and may cause dumping, but don't shy away from it completely, especially when you need to up your caloric intake to lose weight. Some of us strain to get 600 calories a day, or when we stall, we need to push additional calories to shake up our metabolism. I drink coffee and before surgery, I used to drink a caramel latte daily (I love caramel). But that's way too sweet for me and causes dumping big time. However, after her advice, I began adding 1 pump of caramel to my regular Dunkin Donuts coffee along with skim milk and Splenda. It's the only sugar and artificial sweetener I consume every day (now). I began drinking more water and the weight loss has resumed. It's my one "sweet" treat a day, and I look forward to it every morning. It hasn't interrupted my weight loss and I no longer feel cheated when I get coffee. I'm not promoting ice cream or candy, resuming the crazy binge sugar feasts we may have once had (our bodies can't handle that anyway). But for some of us, artificial sweetener can cause us to stall or cause water weight gain. Natural sugar is, in small small doses, sometimes better for us than the artificial kind. If you can handle it, add a little sugar to your coffee (be realistic) or some sweetened flavoring like the International Delights flavors with Splenda or Stevia. Just once a day, it won't kill you. (Now, if you think it is a "gateway" to eating more sugar a day... then don't. You know yourself better than my nutritionist. For me, once a day sweet treat is plenty. I can no longer tolerate anything super sweet.) I'm so happy to be losing again after a long stall, and I won't jeopardize that by overindulging in anything, but I enjoy my coffee every morning and this makes it so much more pleasurable. I feel like I get something sweet and yummy without going nuts.
