I am on a normal diet already and I can eat about 5 ounces of food depending on what it is. I can take very large drinks of water no problem. I'm thinking he didn't make my stomach that small or something. I can definitely eat a thing of yogurt no problem

Kellster, What do you do with the yogurt...I mean I know you eat it but is it plain? Do you put anything in it?Thanks, Cali

My Flipped Port Story
Donnamfred replied to MizDiz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just found ot yesterday that my port fliped. I recieved my Third Fill on the 3rd, and she had a really hard time getting to my port, which she had never had before. She did manage to get to the port, and gave me 1.6cc fill. I usually only get 1cc. Well no surprise the .6 is alittle to much. So, I went in yesterday to have some removed, and No Luck. The Nurse, nor the doctor could get to it. So, Doc took me to X-ray and sure enough it has flipped over on it's side. So, Thursday March 17th I get to go back in for surgery to fix it, and have the .6cc taken out so I can eat more then just greek yogurt and drip protien shakes. -
I have a "car pack" that travels with me. It has a small pack of almonds, some Peanut Butter crackers (I don't low-carb), a Protein bar--careful if your car gets super warm--and some spoons so I can run into a store and grab a yogurt or some Soup, since lots of places now carry ready-to-eat soup. I have experienced that frazzled, really-not-myself feeling many times, and they are ALWAYS tied to times when I don't eat properly. Having a sleeve sometimes means you don't feel hunger, or you don't feel it in the same way, so definitely stock your purse or your car (I also have a couple of things in a desk drawer at work) to avoid having the crash. Don't forget that good old vending machine peanuts will work in a crunch (ha!), as will a cheese stick or beef Jerky from a convenience store if your sleeve tolerates them (cheese yes, jerky no for me). Glad you're feeling better, and now you know!!

Try anything and everything. I tried chicken salad and was not impressed. Maybe it was the way I made it. Fish, shrimp, shell fish? Also I make protein shakes with mango and strawberries. Also Greek yogurt. Good luck! I know it's frustrating!

The post-op stuggle 1 week
missheidi47 replied to VelMel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I mixed unjury chocolate Protein powder with fat free Greek yogurt (considered a full liquid). Very satisfying and 40g of protein. -
I will not lose weight if I do not hit my Protein values. There aren't many things in ly life that are "sure", but that's one of them. Work on hard Proteins. By "hard" I mean proteins you have to chew, with bulk, that will fill your pouch and not run through. Having food sitting in your pouch is what makes you feel full, so the longer the protein is there, the better. Example - fish over a Protein shake, or a Protein Bar over cottage cheese... heck, even large curd over small curd cottage cheese. String cheese over yogurt. Eat your proteins first. If you want a vegetable, don't automatically think "salad". Most lettuce is nothing more than crunchy Water. Nutritionally that does you no good. If you want a salad, make sure you focus on the darker leafy greens, such as the outer leaves from a head of romaine, or spinach. They at least have some nutrition. If you're eating iceberg, you may as well be dunking ice chips in dressing. Better than salads - some raw or steamed veggies. Beans are good for you and have protein. Yes, there are carbs in beans, but they're "good" carbs (as opposed to something like a candy bar or orange juice). I enjoy some cold sliced Jicama, and it keeps me full. Or look at veggies that will supplement your Fiber intake. I think you're well aware that your food choices aren't good ones. I honestly will not buy things like pop-tarts because if they're in the house, I can eat them. I do buy snack foods, but I make them band friendly. Here's one of my favorites: Buy a pack of Turkey pepperoni. Hormel makes it and it's usually kept with the regular pepperoni. Looks like the same little package only it has "Turkey" in a green box, or something like that. Very high in protein, very low in fat and calories. Put them single layer on a paper plate or about 6 paper towels, and microwave until they stop popping, about 1.5 mins, but watch to make sure they don't burn. As soon as you take them out, press them with a wad of paper towels to absorb the excess grease from the top, and push the bottoms into the paper plate or towels. This will also "dry" them and make them crunchy. I eat them plain, or with a little cream cheese (particularly tasty with the garden veggie kind), or even use them as scoops for my cottage cheese. If I'm going to the movies, or travelling, I will bring a bag of them with me for snacking. And they can make a pretty good meal substitute in a pinch. I always have a bag of them in the fridge at work, ready to go if I need them. Nuts make a good snack, particularly almonds (which, go figure, I don't like). The key is to buy raw ones whenver possible. A lot of extra oils and saturated fats are added during some of the processing, so always opt for plain old "shelled" when you can. 1.9cc fill in what size band? Why haven't you gotten another fill?

Congratulations on your surgery, Bob. Heather and I had ours done and we are back home and doing fine. Hungry as hell but fine LOL! JK I'm not really all that hungry but my stomach does an awful lot of growling. No fill for 4-6 weeks (healing process yanno) The liquid diet isn't all that bad and it's only for a week for us. We can have yogurt, Soup, veggie juice, Jello, fruit juice (not orange or pineapple), and broth. Soup At Hand Creamy Tomato went down fine for Heather but I'm sticking mostly to the broth. I did add some V-8 juice to it yesterday. Also, we have had a couple high Protein shakes, and a high protein juice drink (Boost). I read where someone said the high Protein Shakes can cause you to have gas but I chewed a couple Gas-X to be safe. Haven't had any problems so far. Good Luck with everything Linda Banded 2/20/2004 Dr. Arturo Rodriguez, Monterrey MX 275/268.5/minigoal: 200:p

Thyroid - yeah definitely go and get your bloodwork done. In addition to the TSH, T4 and T3 (If I remember correctly), you should ask your doctor to check your Vit D levels. My family has a history of thyroid issues (mom is hypothyroidism - can't lose weight, her sister has hyperthyroidism - can't gain weight); my sister's daughter was born without a thyroid (or it wasn't functioning). I can check off almost all the symptoms too but my bloodwork has always been within the 'normal' range. I understand your frustration there too. For the Vit D levels - get that checked. If your Vit D levels are low, you will be sluggish and tired. That's a different story, but might help you feel better / have more energy to get to the gym. "Diet" - well this is supposed to be our new lifestyle (eye roll). So far I'm feeling better on this South Beach / Atkins / Paleo blend of a diet I'm doing. I've mostly tried being gluten free and my stomach has thanked me. I have eggs every morning, but I'm a boring no thinking type of person lol. Are you just flat out tired and no suggestions will help? I really like doing the 'egg muffin tin' recipes. There's lots of different recipes if you google. Make one batch at the beginning of the week and you're set for a while. I really like the eggs, cheese and ham recipes. There's eggs, spinach and feta, or eggs, tomatoes, and cheese; etc. Also, what about yogurt with some fruit? I like the chobani greek versions. I tried to look it up online - which chicken wrap are you doing? The fried chicken one is pretty high in calories, but skipping the shell is a good idea. The shell gets stuck for me. I can't do the fried chicken a the breading gets stuck for me. Did you have all the condiments with it too? If it was the grilled chicken could it have been too dry? When I go to Chick-fil-a and get the grilled nuggets, I add some BBQ sauce to make sure it goes down. I'll also bite the already small nuggets at least into 3 so that I'm only chewing a small amount. I'd worry about the graham crackers, at least for me, having those carbs will make me hungry again. It's weird. I used to think that carbs helped to fill me up, but they just make me hungry really quickly. I'd suggest to go ahead an sign up for myfitnesspal. It's free. Many of us use it for logging our intake and exercise. If you have a fitbit you can sync that too. There's also a phone app to log while you're on the go. You might want to keep a watch on how much Peanut Butter you're eating. Yes it's good for you and good Protein, but it tends to be high in sugar, carbs and fat. That would make me want to eat more. Also, if you don't stay on top of the hunger and you're playing catch up at the end of the day, you might take in a lot more to feed the hungry monster than if you would have snacked more often. I like to have an afternoon snack of either yogurt or beef Jerky quite often. I eat out a lot too. There's a number of other threads on here devoted to eating out options. Alcohol is one of my weaknesses and a big source of my empty calories. I log those calories/carbs too. Also, are you able to see another doctor / surgeon to get a second professional opinion? I'm not a doctor or any sort of expert. Just giving you my opinion / thoughts to try to help you out.

1& 1/2 Weeks After Gastric Sleeve Surgery- Vomiting?
Lissa replied to Raven-Lenore's topic in Food and Nutrition
Raven, A couple of suggestions to help with the vomiting. First, it seems like you have progressed to soft foods very quickly. I was on "full liquids" at this point in my recovery. Protein shakes, pureed soups, cottage cheese. Basically, it was still "If you can chew it, don't do it". So, maybe you need to back up to full liquids for a little bit and give your sleeve more time to heal. Second, I discovered that I am lactose intolerant at about your current stage as well. I quit drinking milk, eating yogurt or cottage cheese and I didn't have diarrhea issues after that. Maybe try some non-dairy milk (soy or almond) and see if that helps. Third, are you taking an acid reducer? You may be sick because your sleeve is producing too much acid. Too much acid can also make you feel hungry all the time. Fourth, you should really be concentrating on getting your Water in at this early stage. Yes, you should work on the protein, but it's more important to stay hydrated than it is to reach the protein goal right now. As your swelling goes down, you'll be able to get more protein, but you must stay hydrated to avoid kidney stones and/or ending up in the hospital. Lastly, Good luck and welcome to VST!!! Good luck on your journey!! -
So glad you are finding relief and the vinegar hopefully gave you some relief until you got the yogurt.

ARe you serious about the Jello (i presume the sugar free) on the Pre-Op diet. i'll check that out with my Massage Therapist (also a Naturalist). What he has been telling me is that yes - the short statement is "Shrink the Liver" - however the longer version has the yogurt forcing the organs to start purging the fat and toxins out. That knowledge has helped. on many levels. Thanks for the responses. It seems i have trouble accessing the site from my home system, so i'm stuck waiting until i get to work each day. - for now any way.

Okay - first timer here. Jan 25 is magic day. nerves kicking in. need some ground advise for the pre-op diet. i can't do cottage cheese - havn't done white milk or close faxcimilies since i was 6 months old - can't handle the smell, taste - even the thought of it makes me shiver - Yogurt however - i have gotten to like over the past few years. but two weeks of yogurt and tea? - are they serious? i'm going to try - but does anyone have some "tricks" they can share. i'm not sure what happens if i'm not able to hold out for 2 weeks of yogurt and tea?
-
i hate cotage cheese as well..... what i did was eat yogurt and Jello... as well as the allowed drinks..... milk really fills u up a little trick i tried was to eat a different kind of yogurt at different meals...... too much sweetness got to me after a couple of days, so for dinner i had plain yogurt......at lunch i had the fruity one
-
I will be starting the yogurt thing next week, and like you ,no amount of cottage cheese will pass my lips. That is a whole lot of yogurt. What about Tim Hortons vanilla yogurt ? I know for weight watchers it is only 3 points Yasmina

Hi and welcome ljgnorth!!! Good luck on your upcoming date!! I won't lie to ya, for me the 2 week pre-op diet was REALLY hard. Admittedly, I cheated the first two days and then realized I was only hurting myself and got thru the remainder of the 2 weeks. I told myself that I NEEDED to do this to "shrink my liver" in order to make the actual operation go smoother for the docs and have a better recovery. When I told myself that....it really helped me stay on track. Seriously man, if I can do it, anyone can! I also can't stand the taste, site or smell of cottage cheese and so I only did the yogurt thing. Tips: take one meal at a time and don't think of how many days you still have left of it....you'll go insane. "hmmmmm what will I have for Breakfast (lunch, dinner) today...hmmmm lets see....I can have yogurt or....oh yeah, there is yogurt....or perhaps some yogurt". It was tough man. But to help, I treated each time as a meal and I wouldn't eat out of the lil' yogurt cups (if that is what you have). Dish out your yogurt into a real bowl with a real spoon and sit down to breakfast/lunch/dinner like a regular person and eat. It makes ya feel like you are eating a regular meal....and have really as much as you want. In all seriousness, if you can make it through about the first 5 days, the rest will be easier......it is the carb withdrawal that will get to ya....but after the first few days, it gets better....just keep telling yourself that you are literally going thru withdrawal; it seems to make it easier to take. Prepare yourself for the carb withdrawal headaches and irritability....but just recognize it for what it is. Good luck!

Ugh!!! Weight Gain After 3 Years Banded!!
kll724 replied to talkalot1981's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Me too Talkalot1981! I have had the same problem. I am not sure what to do, either. And my surgeon has said he wants me to gain control of my weight on my own. He knows that I eat sliders, and wants me to stop. I LOVE peanut butter.! I have finally found a dry peanut butter to add to my yogurt to increase my protein and get myself off the regular peanut butter. For some reason, unknown to myself, after a slip and unfill, in my case, a revision, the fills do not affect you the way they originally did. I can't tolerate much more than 5cc, and I am at that now! I know that I am not any help in your problem, but just wanted to sympathize and say, me too! Best wishes, Karen -

Are puréed strawberries ok on the puréed phase ?
FluffyChix replied to PEGGO's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Try blueberries instead or peaches. I used the Premier Protein Peaches and Cream, Fairlife FF Milk, Ice and frozen peaches. Plus you can add a spoon or two of yogurt or kefir for pro/pre-biotics and extra creaminess. -
Hungry 11 day's post op
2muchfun replied to jalangy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate thick soups, oatmeal, cream of wheat, scrambled eggs, refried beans, mashed potatoes, mashed carrots, cottage cheese, yogurt, soups of all kinds(blended), applesauce, overcooked cauliflower, noodle soups(very soft noodles, overcooked), lentil soups. -
I don't know about you, but after WLS I go through an awful lot of yogurt cups, Water bottles, and even have empty tubs of Protein powder on occasion. What are some creative ways you have upcycled after surgery? Have you upcycled clothes or other things you no longer need now that you are losing weight? Have you found new uses for old things? I would love to hear your ideas and even see pictures!

Travel exactly one month post op
RoadToMe replied to Mzerica619's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve surgery 1/20/16 and I took a 3 day trip to Las Vegas on 2/11/16 (3 weeks post op). Now, I know everyone recovers differently but I was completely useless for the first 2.5weeks. I was worried about taking my trip but started to get some energy back a couple days before I left. I completely understand what you're going through. I apologize in advance, this may be lengthy, especially since it's fresh in my mind. I think the most difficult thing is going to be food. At three weeks I was supposed to be on a puréed diet. That was incredibly difficult while traveling!!! I am having trouble with Protein shakes post op, no matter what I try I just can't stomach them. That would have been my go to, but I just couldn't do it. I ate mostly yogurt and eggs and those 1 oz packages of peanut or almond butter (I can't remember the brand. It's all natural, no sugars or anything). But, I also ate things that weren't puréed. I didn't have a choice in some places. There just aren't many options on a puréed diet. I did get sick once from eating 2 French fries. I just didn't want to spend so much money on an entire meal when I really shouldn't have been eating any of the foods they had to offer and would only be able to eat a couple bites anyway, and I figured French fries were soft so I just took a couple from someone else's plate. Not a good idea! No more fried things for me!! It didn't help that our hotel room didn't have a fridge or anything, so I couldn't buy yogurts or anything to keep in the room. I did, however, make sure I had a Water bottle on me at all times. I'm not sure what stage of the diet you will be on during your trip, but I would definitely consider what your options would be. As far as rescheduling your trip, and I'm assuming that this is just for pleasure since you're wondering about postponing, I would do some research online or by phone. Look at where you will be staying and local restaurants and any outings you have planned. Most places offer menus online, try to find things that will work for your diet. Even call them and see if they will be accommodating. Also, look at who you will be traveling with. Do they know about your surgery and diet restrictions? Are they going to be supportive and understanding? I think if you will be able to find foods that will fit your diet you will be fine. I had energy back by that point and besides having trouble with food, I had a phenomenal trip. Good luck with your surgery and have fun in Hawaii!
