    Puppy Pics

I love G Danes, but since Im a student, and only feed high quality food, I cant afford to feed them. Petri is my baby, she is now 9 mnths old and when shes around 3 Im gonna breed her, assuming I find a suitable stud. I drove 8 hrs for her, but got a great deal, 1,000..in houston pups sell for 1200-1500. I train peoples dogs for them when I have time and I swear I will end up with like 13 or so! haha, seriously though, if you are allergic to dog kisses..and I am sorry for that, you could get a pig!! I had one, a pot bellied pig named waldo, I had to put him down bc of a respiratory infection but for 3 years, he was and to this day has been the best pet ever! He walked on a leash, sat, heeled and laid down with hand signals. He also knew to wipe his feet when he came inside and housetrained himself in 2 days. When it was his bed time, I d tell him to go to bed, and hed oink upstairs to his kennel in my closet bury under the blanket and then close the door. He was also like having a boyfriend..he farted and burped, but he ate my cooking and I never had to fake a headache!!
  2. That's funny bc you said empathy I don't speak it. And I said if you could read the past post including what I myself had already said. And again you can say that your not condescending but you are and you know it. But like I said thanks for your advice. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    C-PAP machine??

Same as apple203.... but told me to bring the accessories (tube, mask etc) and they’d have the base machine. They didn’t have one but I was asked why I wasn’t using my cpap about 20 Times over the two nights stay bc I was having a hard time breathing while sleeping. (They monitor your vitals obviously through the wires etc) Long story short—. Bring yours! One Year Later, 86 Pounds Gone

The composition of grass fed cows is different than lot fed... they have lots more Omega 3... there are some studies that show all the omega 6 in our food now, including that showing up in animal flesh that has been raised on soy and corn, contributes to the obesity epidemic in the US. I live up the freeway from two "cow concentration camps" feed lots in Mid California.... sadface. Animal waste is so disgusting to me too...all the meat thrown away... somebody gave their life for that overcooked burger in the trash! Just saying, my point of view. Mindful eating is a great practice....wherever it leads you.
  5. Yea,I think I was freaking out bc I stalled at like a week and a half. But it only lasted for about a week, now I'm back to dropping. It's easy to become obsessed about the weight coming off,I had to give my scale to my mom and step back for a minute and collect myself...lol.
  6. Just wondering bc I am now allowed to eat anything. I have been trying to get lean proteins in first. I have these chicken wings that are already cooked and you just heat them but there is like 11 grams of fat in one serving! Everything else I eat has like 1.5-3 grams of fat per serving! It's just chicken,no breading,so I am wondering if anyone knows how many grams of fat we are supposed to have a day? Thanks in advance!!

    Bizarre trend?

I also just read someone's post saying they didn't have any post-op care bc they went to MX...just like choosing a doctor in the US, I think it's important to find someone who offers good pre-op and post-op care, and/or to have it lined up with a dr here if going out of the country for the surgery. It sounds like the VSGers who have been most successful with surgeries, such as people posting on this thread, both in MX and the US have done that, which is great!
  8. Hi everyone! So,I attended my seminar on the 10th. The next morning was my initial consult so I got that taken care of. I have everything taken care of now but my sleep study, psych eval, and nut eval. I know what to expect from pretty much everything but the dietician!!! I am so freaking out bc I don't want to mess anything up! So,my question to you all is:What happened at your Nut Eval??? Like what did they ask and what got you cleared? :bigear: Thanks a bunch! And sorry I haven't posted or replied to any posts in forever. Major appts for me and my kiddos lately. Been super busy but can't wait to surf the forums and see how everyone is doing!!!

    April 21st surgery

I'm doing good but I'm having great difficulty with the Protein. Every time I try to mix it with anything it causes instant nausea and stomach cramps. I'm praying that when I enter the next stage of puréed foods I'll be better able to disguise the taste of the protein. I discussed this with my doc and he's not too worried about me not getting the protein while it's crucial to my successful weight loss, he wants me to focus on getting in my supplements and staying hydrated. I tried the muscle milk for the first time today. It made me feel a little nauseous but as I'm sipping on it slowly it's better than anything else I've tried thus far. All the best to you!!! Hi April21Sister! Just hang in there, I too was getting fed up with liquids and purée, I just started putting in more flavor in my food, I even had mushy Cereal yesterday. I'm feeling ok except today and yesterday I was so tired and feeling chills, I slept extra hours, also having a little pain on my left side near the stitches don know what that could be. I'm seeing my doc and nutritionist on 21st, hope he can answer. Very confused on how much to eat, I guess we are afraid of eating to much and worried about any complications, we should relax I guess and learn to understand our bodies more...lots of learning ahead. I'm going to try the Premier Protein from costco. Stay strong and keep up the progress...!
  10. I have the copper IUD. I got it 3 years ago. LOVE IT, I refused to go on any more hormonal BC for the last 15 years, since I gained a lot of weight with all the different pills and Depo Provera that I tried back then. The copper IUD caused more bleeding and cramping for the first few months but by 6 months everything was back to how it was pre-IUD. I love it. And it only has to be replaced every 10 years, which is nice, not that I think I will have it that long, as we want to have a baby in the next couple years. Good luck. Gwen
  11. My surgery cost $14,500 and this included hospital stay, anesthesiologist fees, any x-rays they ran at the hospital, 2 fluro's, free fills for the first year, and a 90 day "warranty" if you will. I had $2,000 in savings that I used. Then I used a credit card that has 0% and wrote a check from it bc my surgeon's office charges 4.6% on the amt you charge to credit. I then opened another credit card to charge the remaining amount. This card has 0% 24 months, so in my mind, it's kind of like paying same as cash. I am very careful with money and put all of my extra on these cards. I had surgery on April 25th and I've paid back about $1,500 so far. Mind you I'm in my early 20's still working 3 part time jobs, so if I can afford it, I'm sure you can find a way to do it on a salary! Good luck!!

    Low grade fever

I spoke to my dr and told him my fever fluctuates to 99.9-100.5. He said bc I have a cough it's probably just a cold. And to just keep an eye on things.... If I get worse or have any symptoms that are in my discharge papers then to reach out. But I go for my follow up appt on Tuesday. Meanwhile I'm just trying to get my fluid in, not worrying about the protein as much. Yesterday I had one shake and about 20 oz of water. So I know I'm losing weight. But I wonder if once I feel better will I gain a little of the weight back?

Anyone else sleeved Monday may 20

For the pureed, I've done garden peas, mashed potatoes, refried bean, mashed up baked beans, I'm still doing yogurt and pudding. Pureed part is hard BC its not very appetizing at all. More ideas on others foods would be great for me too!

    New to the forum

Well there is a lot to be said abt the lack of a nutritionist. I grew up with a major sweet tooth! And since no one was there to tell me It was what sent me running for the bathroom I was quite old (21-22) before I found that out! Lol. My coffee is always black. Once I figured out that sugar caused me so many problems I eliminated all forms of dairy milk. It's pretty high in sugar. And I gave up soda completely abt 4-5 years ago when I became more aware of how artificial sweeteners caused me bs issues. I think the dehydration from caffeine causes the problem with my bs...but it's just a guess. I am almost 36 and 5' 9" and at my heaviest weight ever at 160. For me this is attributed to less physical activity than I am used to. I have always been extremely active. Because of that, I have never realy gained any excess weight. But with my treadmill in the basement now, I will probably have that off before scuba season. My doctor said I was under weight when I had the accident, and my mom says I was a picky eater before the accident and a lot worse after. That may have had some benefit.

    ANY JUNE SLEEVERS OUT THERE???

June 8th baby! I'm getting it done with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. In all honesty I'm more concerned with him seeing me naked bc that Dr. is HOT!!! (j/k...not really lol). Started my pre-op liquid diet on Monday. If I had started earlier I would have been allowed one small meal a day as well but I just couldn't get it together. But the nutritionist scolded me and told me to make it happen so that's what I'm doing. Can't wait! I'm a June Jewel baby! (sorry....can't think of anything befitting for the men lol)

    Anyone have Medicare?

  20. After 4 quick months surgery is scheduled for 2/8/18 at NYU. I’m still uncertain if I’m approved bc all my surgical coordinator said was “you’re good to go” [emoji848][emoji31] lol But anywho! On day 3 of the liquid diet. Any other February peeps?
  21. Hey JH, have you tried a non isolate Protein powder. I've ha a look and I would suggest checking either of these two out or other products like these. They are treated with low heat and no acid processing, which really alters the taste & the nutrients. Defense Nutrition - http://store.defensenutrition.com/warrior-whey/#.UcYsZPZ-yPQ Pasture-Raised Organic Whey - http://essentiallivingfoods.com/products/whey-protein-powder-grass-fed-organic-9oz I think you might find a huge difference in flavour. My favourites are - 1/2 banana, 2 tblsp Protein Powder (or equiv of 15g protein), 200ml 0% milk, 100ml 0% yogurt & cinnamon to taste. Thats a whopping 30g protein approx & delicious. Add an ice cube & blend. As above but with 1tblsp Peanut Butter & no cinnamon. For Breakfast - As above with 10 blueberries, 3 or 4 strawberries or other berries. Dried fruit is great too if you like, especially if you have probs with constipation - Figs, dates, apricots - tried to use ones that are naturally sweet & not sweetened (like cranberries etc). I hope you find a way through this where you can enjoy what you eat, I'm sure you will if you keep trying. I was given a prescription for a medical protein drink & many of my fellow patients use it a lot, I haven't used it at all - I couldn't stand the taste & I didn't find it necessary after I found other ways to get my protein - much tastier & more pleasant ways. Best of luck, we're at the same stage so let's keep an eye out for each other & share tips.
  22. I have totally cheated on my 2-week liquid diet and my surgery is THIS THURSDAY!!! I'm scared. What are the consequences of not following the diet strictly? I'm scared. Also, I have to be up and at 'em starting Monday with school. I'm really stressed out. I have a high pain tolerance but I'm more worried about being sick. I need to be able to drive asap bc my child needs me and my Mom needs me, as my Dad just died. Please give me some encouragement! I'm mainly worried about how I've cheated on my diet. What are the consequences of that? Thanks!

    Is This Self-Sabotage?

Ok I will be 3 weeks out on Wednesday. I went through something similar and I believe that's what caused my stall at a week and a half out. I wasn't eating crackers but I was making really cheesy dips that included chicken, velveeta cheese, etc. And I was eating snacks with my husband like a couple bites of cheesecake off his plate,a couple pieces of chex mix muddy buddy, etc. I had no room for the healthy stuff! At my one week post op appt my dr told me I was free to eat whatever(healthy) as long as I chewed it thoroughly and went slow. I started eating a bit of ice cream,a lil while later a couple bites of pudding,a while after that some of the velveeta dip stuff and so on...While I don't believe there is enough calories and or fat in the little bitty amounts I was sticking in my sleeve to make you gain a bunch of weight,I do believe all of this and the scale showed it with a 1 lb gain and then stall at a week and a half out: 1-Not eating planned out meals and just grazing throughout the day was getting in the way of my fluid intake. I had it in my mind that I could not tolerate protein shakes so that was being sabotoged as well, and none of these things are healthy. I was not coming to terms with the fact that my sleeve is still too small and new for me to be eating these things and still getting in the nutrition that I need. If I'm not getting in enough liquids or protein,my body is in starvation mode and will hang onto any little bit of fat it can to store for energy,I will feel weak and fatigued like I was,my hair will start falling out(one of my biggest fears). I gave my scale to my mom and made SURE to put lean protein foods first, and that's about all I can fit in my sleeve. My rule of thumb now is NO food goes into my mouth when I wake up until I have had at least 20 ozs of liquids,I follow that with a muscle milk light which has 20 grams of protein and my sleeve loves it compared to a protein shake. Then I have to have 10 more ounces of liquids b4 lunch. I can only stomach 1.5 ounces of chicken with hot sauce and a dab of blue cheese on it then I'm full. Wait about an hour and make myself finish off 10 more ounces of fluids before dinner. I then eat tuna, salmon, cheese,or chicken, something with protein for dinner. By then I have had more than 40 grams of protein and 40 ounces of liquids. I am free for the rest of the evening to drink liquids, eat a couple bites of SF pudding (I usually sprinkle some unflavored protein in it) or even eat a SF fruit bar-only 25 calories and soooo good! The reason I am saying all this is bc this: Since I put my foot down and started doing what I know I should be,my stall ended quickly and I have lost 3 more lbs in 3 days! I had to realize that I will eventually get to enjoy these things in moderation, but the whole reason I got the sleeve is so I can fill it with healthy, protein rich foods, vitamins and liquids consistently until my excess weight is gone. I will from now on save the junk food till I am farther out. That 1 lb gain and stall was enough to snap me out of it and remember what I was blessed with. Now,that being said it's just my opinion and I do believe everyone's body is different and everyone can handle things differently. I just kinda wanted to let u in on my experience thus far out and hope I can help in someway. ((HUGS)) and stay strong,we will get through this!
  24. I am a type II diabetic and 12 days post op gastric sleeve. For the last 7 days I was able to take just a few units (10 to 15 units) of rapid acting insulin to bring my sugar levels to acceptable (9-13). But now that I am able to eat more substantive foods my sugar levels are of course going up but I feel very scared to take the long acting insulin. Are there any other diabetic sleevers who can share some of your experience on controlling blood sugar after surgery and did you use long acting insulin or only short acting? I am scared of long acting and going to sleep...…...I live alone so there is no one to check on me. Of course I need to keep BS down to help my incisions heal as well as the internal staples. Incisions are healing very well, Thank God! How long did it take before you stopped needing to use insulin?
  25. Hello Miss.Susan: I have BC/BS Calpers Netvalue, which required that I either see a nurtitionist or my primary care doctor for the required 6-month supervised diet. I saw a combintaion of both. If I could not make it to the nutritionist I went to my PC. So starting January 2008 I started seeing the nutrionist once a month on a Saturday, which was very convenient for me. She documented my weight loss and/or gains. We atlked about exercise, protien and always discuss the banding/surgery. We talked about nutrition and Vitamins, and so much more. Anyway, my six-months required attendance was completed back in July, however I continue to meet with her monthly because I value the information she provides me and she keeps it real!. I will conitnue to meet with her after the surgery as well.
