  1. I have a friend who is getting VSG (she doesn't have an acct here) and she wanted me to ask you guys a question. If you gain roughly 5-6lbs BEFORE your surgery will it be cancelled? I personally have no idea because my surgery is scheduled for next month but hers is NEXT week!
  2. So...my last pre-op appointment is on 9/12 with my surgery scheduled for 9/28. At my last appointment the doctor that works with surgeon ordered me to lose between 5-10 lbs. before my last pre-op appointment on 9/12. She also said that if I did not lose the ordered amount it was fine, but that if I gained any weight, even an ounce that the surgery would be cancelled. Wow! That's a lot of pressure. So far I have lost about 4 lbs, giving me 6 days to lose between 1-6 more lbs. So scary! The surgeon didn't even make me go on a pre-op liquid diet. So, I have been going the low carb route and trying to walk and ride my bike more. Anybody else been given this kind of ultimatum? Ducker

    Sweet Spot??

I think it's just another word for 'being able to eat small meals and feeling satisfied'. There's people out there that are constantly trying to find that magical spot where they can eat whatever consistancy of food they want, and have their hunger supressed. - It doesn't work that way. and there's always going to be foods you can't have. When you find the right amount of fill that works for you, you'll be able to comfortably eat small portions of food and be satisfied. If you're too tight, it can lead to weight gain. In the end you just need to find what's right for you. Everyone's going to be different and some people's restrictions are going to be greater than others.
  4. No Matter what!! Dont beat yourself up for the mistakes made yesterday and the weight gain and the disappointments. Time Takes Care of Itself!!
  5. Hi guys and gals, just thought I would post a nice happy thread to let everyone know I finally love my band! lol I was banded on 1st March 08 and have been having a few hiccups along the way..mostly with no restriction, weight gain and feeling generally like I was a failure.But......after my 3rd fill on 11th June 08,I have been having better results and feeling much more positive. I was at a low point thinking that I want going to have any success with my band, and my weight kept going up. I am finding things much more easy now.I can eat a fair amount still,I dont feel too deprived.I am much more satisfied for longer and dont think about food 24/7 like I used to! To anyone who is feeling like the band isnt helping-hang in there! It will happen!! I was helped by all the words of encouragement on here, and it takes the right adjustment and it will work!I love my band now. Good luck to everyone on their banding journey. x x
  6. I was also on fertility meds in order to get pregnant. It took my husband and I a few months..although we weren't taking Clomid I had to weight gaining issues. You might want to try a different fertility drug..I used Femera, it may be the drug..I have heard a few of the ladies that I speak to about fertility issues gain weight on Clomid although I am not sure if that is what the problem is...I got a fill in November 09', we found out we were pregnant in Dec 09..I did not get unfilled my entire pregnancy and had no issues..I would suggest getting a fill and seeing if that works..and I would talk to you doctor about switching meds if Clomid hasn't worked yet..Femera was great, I had zero side effects and only had to take it for a few months..Best of luck and keep us updated :cursing: I really hope you get your Positive soon.. Also wanted to add that while I was on fertility drugs I still did other things that I feel helped us get pregnant..some things I suggest doing if your not already doing them...I tested every time I went to the bathroom with OPK's, they are little sticks that you put in your urine to see if you have ovulated..they helped wonders...because even if your taking fertility drugs you can ovulate early or late..in my case I was late..also we used Pre-seed every time we had sex, it is amazing stuff..it is a lubrication that you use that helps the sperm get closer to your eggs...even if you don't need lubrication I would still suggest getting some..also make sure after every time you have sex to at least lay down still for 15 minutes..don't jump up and go clean up..You can find the OPKs on Ebay for very cheap, and don't hesitate to use the Dollar Tree pregnancy tests they are awesome and work!! The pregnancy tests on ebay also work well too..if you have any other questions please feel free to email me xaSpenx@hotmail.com Hope this helps :huh2:
  7. So I lost 13 pounds during the week of pre-op liquid diet and was feeling pretty good. Weighed in at 226 the morning of surgery. Came home the next day at 240! What the heck? I realize they had me on IV fluid the whole time, but 14 pounds worth? It's depressing to feel like I took a giant step backwards

    Follow-up visit concerns

It really depends on your doctor and his staff. My doctor has been nothing but encouraging, even with weight gain. He is also very conservative on fills, i did not get my first until 3 mths post op and it was just 2cc's and it has done nothing but he wants me to get used to eating my portions and chewing that is why he prefers to be conservative. They doctors are they to help you win this battle so hopefully they will stay positive with you.
  9. So day 6 I was rather happy with the results on the scales down 5kg or 10.5lbs, and by day 8 down 7 kg (15lbs). However since day 8 I have been constantly hungry, and the more I drink the hungrier i get. As I am only on fluids it does not help. Day 10 and weight gain about 1kg (0.5lbs). How can this be with my intake being less than 800 cal a day. How can i get rid of this hunger while only on fluids. Its really discouraging as cals down but weight not doing anything I did not think I would plateu this soon into the journey. Does anyone have any ideas how to overcome this hunery and help with the weight loss. Up for any ideas at this stage.
  10. Has anyone gained weight before their first fill, and possibly after? I've gained like 4 pounds in the past 3 weeks.
  11. Hi I am new here I just wanted to know if anyone has left thier fluid in while they were pregnant and if so , how much weight was put on
  12. Hi, another new person here. Thanks for such a valuable site for information on this procedure! Seeing my surgeon this week; hopeful I'll get an approval for January surgery. I've read several of the different threads, and I'm curious about those complaining about weight gain. Why do you not mention returning to your doctor's offices on a regular basis for consultation - and what about fills to assist you and get you back on track? Isn't that the purpose of the "adjustable" band?? Thanks - and good luck to all of you!
  13. I'm only 9 wks out but ill try to help. Yes, I think these dietary restrictions 'would' help anyone lose weight. The difference is how long can you follow these restrictions with a whole stomach and plenty of gherlin to boot? Me personally, I've done it ALL. Any diet u can name, I've done it. Low fat, low carb, pills, shakes, supplements, the list goes on. And yes, I lost. But never maintained, because eventually I got HUNGRY, and there was nothing stopping me from eating whatever I wanted to fill up. It was a viscous cycle of diets, hunger, guilt, weight gain, diet again. I'm 52 pounds down now in 9 wks. Not hungry. For once in my life im Eating to live and no longer living to eat.

I have really fallen off the wagon...help!

My wife is on anxiety meds and they make her put on weight like mad. Ask your prescribing doc if that's a side effect of yours and see if there is another variety you can take? I know they're very hard to get off of and change. And it sounds like you need them. If you must be on them, you'll have to work them into your lifestyle. Research how they work chemically and see if you can't make some nutritional changes to minimize their weight gaining side effects. And try to get off them when the time is right. You've been through a lot, but you can do this. Tell the people closest to you how much you need them. People react poorly to friends and family with depression. They just don't know what to do. Tell them what you need and forgive their dumb reactions.
  15. Today I got bold and curious about a drawer of "skinny " pants I haven't been able to wear for over two years from my days of obsessively working out and taking Phentermine ..would you believe they all fit? Some with room to spare?..for a day that started out with a crummy 5lb water weight gain I sure feel Greeaaat now! Thank God for my sleeve!

    PB's = Weight Gain?

I've noticed that when I PB--the next day I seem to gain a little weight--even when calorie count was low. Anyone else experience this?

    Tired....of EVERYTHING....

I too, have struggled with my band. I have wanted it taken out of me. I have spent a lot of time crying. I had my band put in 2 years ago. I initially lost approx 55 pounds. I then started with the "get a fill" to being too tight, to "getting unfills".... then I just had all the fluid taken out and gained back all of my weight. I "learned" what would go down my band and satisfy my "cravings" at the same time, but it led to my weight gain and further depression. I also dealt with a doctor.......who....is not an encourager! In fact, he was pretty mean! 8 months later, and my health deteriorating, I decided to "GIVE THIS BAND THING ANOHER TRY!"... I changed to a new doctor...and had a fill. I ate salads and then all of a sudden my band was too tight! JUST LIKE ALL OF THE OTHER TIMES! I couldn't get liquids down for over 2 days. I had 3 choices, go to my doctor, the ER or stay home and die. I went to the doctor. She took a little fluid out of my band. She assessed what I had been eating and we came to the conclusion that it was the salad. She said that salad will irritate the band. I felt like a light bulb went off! I started looking back at all of the times this happened... and yes.....I was eating salads and then would start having this problem! I really think it was the salads! I am now restricted and seem to be at a pretty good place right now and am praying for the best. So far, so good! I am able to get fluids down and am relearning how to eat. I am spent so much money, time and energy on this band, that I am determined that I am going to let it help me become healthier! Good luck to you too!
  18. Funny I also started out with Graves' disease and was at my high weight of 302lbs I weigh less now. Usually we are suppose to be so skinny because our metabolism is moving so quickly. Haha...I am always the exception to the rule. Then did the radiation and left with hypothyroidism. On levothyroxine now among other things. Looking at a march surgery RNY...I have met others with the hypothyroidism that have had the surgery and they have done great. I think one of the key things we need to do is stay on top of our situations by getting our thyroid panels done regularly...and be very familiar with what the symptoms are of the disease other than weight gain, hair loss, depression etc. Your gonna do great--we all are!
  19. Hi everyone I made this post in introductions that should be here.I lost almost 20lbs on 2week post-op diet but gained about 6 back after starting soft diet. My first fill is this week 9-17 maybe this will get things going. Thanks Steve
  20. No weight gain...no weight loss. I wish this wasn't my story. Posted by AngieB, Jun 11 2009, 02:34 PM Admin/Owner Options Make This Entry A Draft
  21. Thanks for the advice everyone. Nope, not exercising regularly, so it's not muscle gain. Nope, not over the 9 days, just overnight. I'm happy to report that this AM the scale was back down....so probably more or less Water weight gain. I'm on 800 calories a day, for 14 days. My surgery is set for Tuesday. I can't wait!!!!!!! Good luck tomorrow, Melissa!!
  22. I had gained more than a few pounds at my last weigh-in and I was terrified that they were going to delay my surgery because of it, but the CRNP didn't say anything about the weight gain and I surely didn't bring it up lol. Afterwards, someone else told me that as long as you didn't gain over your original starting weight, it wouldn't delay the process, so hopefully it'll be the same for you. I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck!

    Puff The Magic Dragon

Sunday I finally saw something I had been waiting years to see....199.2 on the scale. I was so excited to finally be below the 200 mark, which I am sure most of you can understand. Flash forward to this morning 201.8 - the wonderful water weight gain. When I woke up this morning I knew instantly I was retaining. My eyes and face were puffy, my hands felt tight. According to by BC pill pack next week is my TOM. Even though I haven't had a period since surgery (no, not pregnant) I still have the water weight gain and the wonderful moods. Right now I ache, my back hurts, my face hurts - how in the world did I manage to pack on that much water over night? By band is NOT happy about this- I barely got my special K down this morning. Frankly, I am getting reflux from my water this morning. So it's all liquids today until this water gets out of me. Anyone got any ideas how to flush the water out aside from fluid pills? I don't like being Puff the not so magic dragon.
