    Fall from grace :(

@@nprcowboy Glad to hear that, and I hope this turns around for you soon! For the better! Have you spoken with your doctor regarding your weight still increasing? As far as I know, Paxil causes weight gain also, although treating major depression has to take priority! As far as I know , Effexor and Wellbutrin don't cause increased appetite and weight-gain. They may not be suitable for you though, I don't know ..... maybe you can ask your doctor about them, anyway. Try to get back to high Protein, low carb eating. Hopefully high protein will keep you satisfied for longer time. Good luck and hope all gets better for you soon.
  4. Hi All! I have noticed that over the past 5 days or so, I have been gaining weight. This goes along with the beginning of weight training as well as an increase intake in salt. I must say that I have probably had more carbs than I should in the beginning but I am back on track. Do you think I should attribute this to muscle mass or the retention of Water due to the increased salt intake. Oh yeah, I am also 44 and could be starting menopause. I am just so frustrated. Any words of advice or motivation would definitely be appreciated.
  5. I am extremely disappointed and disheartened by my failure so far. At first everything was great and I went from 220 to 198.4 in 3 weeks. After week 3 however I stalled which I understand is just part of the process. But during week 4 I am steady gaining weight and went from 198.4 to 203.2 on a diet of 700 calories. It should be practically impossible to be gaining weight on that few calories but somehow I'm doing it. I'm so mad that I was in onderland for so little time but now I'm back in the 200s slowly getting back where I started. I truly regret this surgery because all the sickness and discomfort it causes me is for nothing.
  6. @@Christy5913 And you too, look so young. The weight gain made me look like my grandmother. The weight loss takes 15-20 years off our faces!
  7. It may be Water weight since 1200 calories wouldn't cause weight gain. Also, have you had a blood test lately... To check your thyroid...Etc? Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    The cure for sore butt

Good luck with that. Have you tried dough-nut style cushions or pregnancy cushions, they protect your coccyx. I used them at seminars if they were long and chairs were uncomfortable, and this was in my pre-weight gain days. They worked for me.
  9. I am feeling very unhappy. My Lap band is coming out on 9/21 after 12 years. I really loved it after losing 110 lbs. and being thin for 10 years. But I have had complications with pain and GERD for the last 2 years and the band was opened. I have gained all my weight back plus more. The band will be removed. I feel awful after being so fit and healthy for 10 years and having it taken away. I have to wait 3 months for my conversion and my surgeon is not certain if I will have sleeve or bypass. He believes I may have a motility issue. I hear weight loss after conversion is slower. I'm so worried and discouraged. I feel like going through this surgery and then the motility tests and the conversion surgery are going to be very traumatic and take forever. I know I may sound ungrateful but I have been suffering terribly with this quick weight gain in 2 years. The quality of my life has been horrible. I've had two back surgeries and I am on a ton of medication due to being so obese. I guess I am looking for anyone who has been in my position who can help make this psychology easier for me. I just need a pep talk to get me through the rest of this waiting and all the surgeries and pre op testing. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Questions

@@andersonrivera, Yes I knew I would have surgery, I just had to wait to go through my insurance process for approval. I do not regret having VSG surgery. My weight had spiraled so much out of control it was affecting not only my physical health but also my mental health. I love the fact that with this tool you only need a few bites and your full. One of the reasons for my weight gain was portion control and this helps keep me on track. Yes I like drinking after my meals. I was a person that would drink glasses and glasses of juice before, during and after my meals and would get a lot of extra calories that way. By having it after my meal it allows me time to chew and actually taste my food! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    I started this journey.....

I'm not a big overeater either - but I do recognize now that when I do eat my portions are much bigger than they should be. And not eating regularly has caused serious weight gain as well. I can eat Breakfast and go hours and hours until I eat again - sometimes right until dinner. Then I'm starving of course, and eat too much for an evening meal. My choices aren't always good either. Over the years the pounds just came on and didn't leave! Good luck to you - I go to my first clinic appt Oct.3 but since I'm going through our provincial healthcare (free) that means I will wait awhile for surgery. If it's going to be too long, I won't do it. I'm 54; what would be the point if I can't get it for years from now?

    VIP Member Check In

Well, I've never used this forum on anything other than my phone- until today. Discovered status bars and VIP membership. Who knew? Most of you know who I am already, but my stats-- 49, female, married for 20 years 3 kids -19, 16,15 boy girl boy. Just got my oldest off to college for the first time. I live in the suburbs of Chicago- and grew up in the city itself. I practiced dentistry for almost 20 years before I became ill with an autoimmune disorder. My weight gain was directly related to this- high doses of prednisone combined with the inability to move around. The catalyst for surgery came from my rheumatologist who was reading anecdotal reports of people with RA who had bypass going either into remission or having a dramatic drop in symptoms. I didn't respond to any traditional or experimental meds on the market, so my thought was- the WORST case scenario for me would be less pressure on my joints. Luckily, I've not had any flares or RA symptoms since surgery. I got my life back. I'm contemplating returning to work now. I won't go back to active dental practice- I'm too scared, quite frankly. Worry of a relapse happening, my hands literally freezing up while working on a patient- so many scenarios of bad. People don't realize that RA can actually be deadly. They equate it with osteo arthritis. I'm an avid- maybe rabid?? Lol- hockey fan, and am thrilled beyond belief that my beloved Blackhawks are so Fricking amazing! Also- a huge college football fan (Go Wildcats!) That's that. I so appreciate the wisdom, wit and camaraderie here. These are my kiddos-- just cause I'm proud of them! Oldest is studying Sports Management at Iowa and plans on law school after. My daughter has an amazing voice and has been studying opera since 12, but wants to be an anesthesiologist-go figure! Youngest guy is the funny one, football player. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Realistic Goal Weight?

Goal weight is definitely a personal choice. With my bypass they told me on average people lose 70% of their excess weight. Well, that bothered me because if i was going through all of this, i really wanted to get to a normal weight for my height. I chose to use the BMI scale given it is what all the doctors used when assessing whether or not our weight is at a healthy level. When i looked at that chart, it basically told me that i should be somewhere around 165 for my 5'10" height. At the time i was 310lbs and could not even fathom getting to 165 which was my weight after having my first son. prior to that i was actually underweight but i was a teenager. So, I chose 165 as my ultimate goal but i had mini goals along the way. The first was getting below 300, then 250 and then 210 because that meant i had lost 100lbs. then my next big goal was getting to onederland! It was at that point that i finally started to believe i would get to a 165 goal. My surgeon never expected me to get to that weight and absolutely did not set a weight goal. In fact when i got to the 200 mark, he considered my surgery a success. And he warned me that if I wanted to get to my ultimate goal i would have to work very hard at controlling my diet and getting some exercise. I did and I swear I thought that last 30lbs was going to be the death of me. I had limited ability to exercise for the 2nd half of my weight loss because of multiple surgeries so I had to do it with food. I am now at a stage where I have been maintaining since March 2016. I fluctuate between 162 and 158. Part of me would really like to get to 150 so that if I do get the 10% to 15% expected weight gain back that i have some room. I like the way that I look right now and really don't want to lose more but I am a bit worried about regain and I am watching it like a hawk. Something happens when you hit maintenance.....you find yourself being more hungry, more head hunger and you are a bit daring. At least I have been. I still don't eat much but it is really all about choices and it is easier for some reason to make bad ones if you are not careful. Best of luck to you with goal setting and getting to your goal!

How was your 5:2 day today?

I like Mike a lot. We had a great past few days. I stayed at his house so we could take the boat out. Boating was really fun. One day we took it to a lake where we had the whole lake to ourselves, since all the kids have gone back to school. One of the things that bothers me is he needs to see a doctor and he refuses to get set up to see one. He hasn't been to a doctor for years but has been hospitalized 3 times for pancreatitis. Each time, he was in the hospital for several weeks. He has blood sugar problems which cause a variety of other problems. Cathy Cuba sounds amazing. I would love to go where the Water and weather was warm. My weight drives me crazy. I can't seem to lose anything. I saw a dr. last week for my annual check up, and she told me Gabapentin causes weight gain. I've been trying to find this out for months. I think it's what's keeping me from being able to lose. I really would not be able to sleep without it.

    95 pounds down and counting...

@@redfire_angel75, for me it has been easier exercising now then before surgery, my only hiccup has been my gout but it seems to have subsided... Thank God!! 16. Hey all! As I write the title, I realize it's a bit cringe-worthy! Someone that has already gone through so much bodily trauma, is going to another country for elective WLS outside the safe medical guidelines placed in the States. Sounds crazy, right? Maybe this will help me connect with some people that have gone through the same experiences or maybe my story will help other ladies out there struggling with their weight after early on-set menopause. Let's hope! A brief summary of my cancer story. When I was 32 (only 11 months after my previous pap) I found out I had a 7cm tumor growing in my girly bits and ended up going through 32 radiation treatments, 7 rounds of chemo, 2 cesium implants and lastly total hysterectomy. Before cancer, my weight was 170 (BTW, I'm 5'4"), post-cancer weight I was down to 140. After recovering from my surgery, I embraced the weightloss and started exercising like a boss! But menopause hit me like a brick! I started gaining weight no matter how hard I tried. It was so disheartening and I'll admit, after trying so hard for 2 years or so. I gave up the gym. My current weight is 215lbs. I'm in the service industry in nyc and spend 9 hours a day on my feet. With this weight gain, I'm literally limping home, my feet and ankles swelling out of my shoes. My knees and back aching. Ive developed awful insomnia and need both otc and natural sleep aids to get to sleep and when I do sleep, I snore....like really loud. Most recently, I developed acid Reflux disease which my doc associated with my obesity. I've changed my diet around and it's helped with that a lot. After much research, I've decided to take the leap towards the Gastric Sleeve to help me regain my health both physically and mentally. I've only been overweight in my 30s. I was normal weight most of my life. So, i feel the weight gain has been harder for me to embrace mentally than the change I will experience post-surgery. My insurance will not cover bariatric surgery, so I've chosen dr. sergio verboonen and will be going to Cancun in January. Has anyone out there gone through bariatric surgery after cancer and how have you fared? I'm so curious and would love to share stories. Also, I'm interested in joining a support group in nyc. 18. @@doingitmyway I lost 64 Ib (29 kg). Probably would have lost bit more, but I was bit slack with my exercises lately. I gained 90 Ib (41 kg) in 2 years 2014-2016 partly due to my Graves Disease (hyper-thyroid) doing 180 degree turn, and mucking up my metabolism. I developed awful sweet and fatty foods cravings, so I had a massive, rapid weight gain. I would love to lose another 33 Ib. My weight loss has slowed down a bit when I hit 6 months post op. Anyone from long island?

Hi everyone. I am 5 weeks out of sleeve surgery and have stopped losing weight. Total loss so far is 14 lbs. and the weight gained in past week is 1 lb. I am soo worried..what am I doing wrong. Can anyone spare me a few minutes please Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  20. Hi there! I am trying not to freak out, but I stepped on the scale yesterday, and I was the same weight as the day before (which was 10 days post op) but now today, I am up a pound! I did look and dos not have enough calories 3 days ago, and I am a woman who is at the middle of her cycle, but mentally, that is pretty devastating go see! I also gained 10 pounds immediately post op, so I am truly only down 6 pounds from when I went in for surgery! I am doing 70g+ of Protein and 800 calories a day...has anyone else experienced this? Qs and more Qs...

I have a couple of consults set up for next month. I'm not at goal yet- 40 lbs away- but definitely want the girls back where they belong as well as the TT. Two of my kids were C sections, the first an emergency C, so my scar goes vertical from belly button down. Even before weight gain, when my tummy was relatively flat, one side of the scar had a droop to it. I'm hoping that will easily be addressed. At this point, I'm in research mode, so I know what to expect, costs, etc. One in college now, and two headed over the next two years, requires planning financially. My husband couldn't care less if I do these things, but I know I'd catch flack if I dug too far into savings to do so. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Great idea...to have a regain forum. At my lowest, I was 113 lbs. I'm now at 133. I didn't ever expect to stay at 113 but I do want to be between 120-125. So I'm approximately 10 lbs. more than I'd like. My clothes still fit but some are tight. I don't want to wear tight clothes unless they are tight in the right areas. I REFUSE to buy larger sizes. I just won't go there again and have my closet look like a clothing store...with items in every size. So, each and every day, I vow to eat clean. Some days I do...and some I don't. I don't consider myself a bad person if I gained...but I adjust if I have seen the scale go in the wrong direction. Most important, is I remember that I'm mobile and normal sized and can do pretty much anything I want. That was not always the case. I remember that I can catch up to my toddler grandson as he runs around, and can also hang with my teenaged granddaughter while she plays softball and volleyball. Was a time I was unable to fly to see her because of the weight. Point is...I live my life and it's not based on the number on the scale. If I can't get it to go down..I head back to the doctor for an additional fill. I also reign in what I know are bad choices and start anew. Sorry for not focusing more on the specifics of weight gain....but I also wanted to note where the focus should be..or at least where I think the focus should be.

At 274 # I had a double, no make that triple chins with full hanging cheeks and my eyes were just slits, I avoided pictures like the plague. Birth Control After Sleeve

I had a mirena IUD inserted in preparation for surgery. I've had it about three months now, and I'm very happy. My periods are lighter (I've always had heavy periods when not on the pill). I do have some spotting mid-cycle, and for a couple days before and after my period, but I had that before, and it was heavier and longer in duration then. Definitely no weight gain from it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. switched from orals to Mirena about 18 months after my sleeve (due to age and extended length of time being on estrogen) and LOVE it. no weight gain that i can pinpoint directly (i have had about 18-20 lb regain but more related to stress eating and falling off my plan). also no more periods at all, which is expected with Mirena. No issues, i would recommend to anybody.
