Mushies - How Many Calories A Day?

I was told 400-600 calories, but that is rough guidance not hard and fast. I am in the pureed food stage and i am not sure how you are getting enough protein with so low of calories, but i guess most of it is coming in the isopure? How are eggs going down, NUT told me not to try them just yet as people often have problems with them.

    I am Banded!!!

Wow that day went really fast for you! I am glad it went so well. If the worst part was the IV then you are a lucky lady. Keep us posted on the progress.
  3. you can start when every you want. Just call your doctor and tell him that you are planning a family thing and that your not starting your liquids until afterwards. He may move your date a couple of days but the girls in the office do understand that we are human and things happen.. I will give you some advice be very dedicated to your liquids. It will be hard as hell for the first 3 days but it is well worth it. The better you do on liquids right now is the better your going to do after surgery. Also get with doc and get started on a ppi (previcid,protonics,zantac..etc)if your not on one right now. It is awesome he is using a 32 bungie on you. it makes a small sleeve. The sutures make the sleeve tighter also. I am soo excited for you. this truly as been the most awesome thing I have ever done for myself. It has helped me with my self esteem as well as the way I look at myself as a whole. I wish you soo much good luck and a fast recovery.

    Day 7 Sneezing!

I didn't have any pain after about 3 days post op. So I'm not sure what the average is, maybe I am a fast healer.

    Feeling sick after eating

It can occur when you eat or drink too fast. Especially early on when everything is still healing. If you are getting that feeling it may mean you need to slow down your eating/drinking.

    Had my first vomiting episode!

I've thrown up (not PB'd) in public more than I can count over the last 2 yrs. Most of the time, I have the bathroom to myself, but when there's someone in the next stall, they invariably ask "are you ok?" Yes, I'm fine. I also find when I eat too fast (a habit picked up in basic training in the Army - if you don't eat your meal in 3 minutes, you don't eat) I throw up. I usually have to stick my toothbrush or finger down my throat to get it out - it rarely comes up on it's own. But I feel if I don't get it out, I'm going to be just miserable. The only advice I can offer you is to try to eat slower. I'm so bad that if I throw up, I continue eating, I don't go on liquids for a couple of days. And if you throw up in public, so be it. It's not that big of a deal. Good luck! Marci

    Feeling sick after eating

Puking is not uncommon, but certainly not to be expected. I never threw up or had the slimes. I made it a point to eat nice and slow. Those are all symptoms of eating too fast.
  8. I was banded June 20 2011 by dr Reilly at true results in Houston. I went for pre-op, surgery, and now go monthly for fills. I've only seen the doctor during Pre-op and surgery but not since, only the nurse and/or PA for fills. I'm at 4.9 cc so far and hoping that my visit next week gets me closer to the green zone. Plan on going at least every 4-6 weeks post op. And make your fill appointments in advance! They only stay late on thursdays and those spots after 3:00 fill up fast! I already have my November appointment and will make my December appointment this week when I go. Good luck, keep me posted!!
  9. This stage is not about losing weight-it's about recovering!! Any weight loss should be considered a bonus! Your body is healing and adjusting to the new way of eating. The lump in your throat sinply means you drank too fat or too much at once or ate without chewing or ate to much too fast...slow down and listen to your body's signal. When you feel that sensation coming on you need to slow down or stop. I know when I drink something fast I getthe feeling. Good luck to you!

    Food Inc.

Wow! I just watched this documentary called Food Inc. It's much of the same info as the book, Fast Food Nation. I had tried to read the book in the past but just couldn't get into it. I am so glad they made this documentary. I am pretty informed about factory farming, especially where it concerns animals. I was a vegetarian for 13 years and did my share of pamphleting, protesting, and lobbying for animals but I really didn't know the extent of the Nation's food problem until I watched this documentary. It has changed me and will change the way I shop for food. Now that I am able to eat less food, I can afford to switch my family to whole, natural, locally-produced foods and that is what I am going to do. My husband is happily on board (rare since we usually disagree on "green-hippie" issues like this). He watched the film with me and is appalled at the state of our country's food processing methods. Watch it as soon as you can! It will change the way you look at food and what you learn from it could be a good companion to your healthy new lifestyle. Meanwhile, I had another good day with the band. For breakfast, I renewed my childhood love affair with Cream of Wheat. Man, that is good stuff. I added a little varietal (blueberry) honey to it and it was incredible. Later, I made chili for dinner and just ate some of the sauce. I am still having trouble getting all my water and protein, though. My Grandma stressed me out again today and for a second, I felt the old twinge to eat my feelings away. Instead, I just sat there feeling what I felt and then I felt better. I also had a ton of energy and felt like my old self. Since my car accident, I have not been able to do all the things I used to. My house stays messy because I can't keep up with it and it that been a constant source of guilt and anxiety for me especially now that I stay at home and feel it is my job to stay on top of this house. Today, I was able to do a lot of chores and chase after my kiddo and critters for 12+ hours. I even finished cleaning 3 rooms! That hasn't happened in 2 years when, before the accident, I could clean my entire house in a couple of hours. I am really really really happy that I got the band.
  11. Yes, definitely a mindset change. I went from eating a box of little Debbie's for a snack to a low carb yogurt or a babybel cheese and am much more satisfied with the healthier choice. And it is not even hard to choose. Going through all it took to decide on the band, get through the process and then actually doing it gave me the mindset that this is the time I am going to succeed and with the band on my stomach, I am succeeding. It is a great feeling to watch the scales go down and know that I have the ability this time to keep it off! And I actually feel so much better eating healthy that I don't think I could ever go back to feeling like I did when I was eating lots of junk and fast food. You just feel so bad physically afterwards and now after eating I am sated and still feel good. It is a win win situation for me.

    People With Low BMI

My BMI was 35.9 when I first met with my surgeon in June, 34.8 on the day of surgery. I am 3 weeks out and have lost 12 lbs since surgery, though I have been in a stall for the last week. Hoping it breaks soon. I don't expect to lost fast due to having a lower BMI, but not losing anything so soon sucks. I am not freaking out just yet though, seems a stall around 3 weeks is common. I am sure things will get moving again soon.

    Kedging through the Doldrums

Love this phrase! I'm about to go kedge myself out of the doldrums in the basement -- treadmill, bike and BowFlex. Every one around me the last couple of days is in a bad mood -- husband has man-cold, kid is grumpy, mother constantly complaining......I feel like I take in other people's "stuff" and I need to walk it off. Fast walk my way back to myself and my own joy. Maybe we can kedge our way to full sail by reminding ourselves of what we really want. I really want to lose another chunk. I have to really really want it then nothing can stop me. I want to fit in that skirt. I want to be healthy and happy with my weight. Really, really.

    Slow losers unite

My advice: the world beats you up enough. Why do you want to do the same? Stop!! People give us enough garbage for being fat, dont add yourself to it. Think about what you need to do to take charge, both of you and your mind. Concentrate on YOU and getting YOU healthier. Whether it is a slow lose or a fast lose, as long as you are getting healthier and losing, does it matter? A number on the scale doesn't equate to your worth in life. </soapbox> Politely said

    Need Advice Please Read !

I have had two surgeries in my 60 years of being here on earth. First surgery was a breast reduction at the age of 40. The second surgery was my sleeve surgery at the age of 60. With both choices I have only one major regret....... Wish I had done them both at 21!!!! Life goes by so fast. I can't say enough about how happy I am that I made this journey. You have so much life ahead of you and you are very fortunate you have this option of WLS. Such a wonderful tool that so many out there do not have available to them because of cost prohibitive issues. I am a parent of two daughters who recently went to Mexico to have their sleeves because they did not have insurance approvals here in the states. Even with those concerns of being out of the country and the worry of receiving quality care from a surgeon so far away I still stood behind their choices and even encouraged them to have the procedure. I know the risks and even though minimal in numbers even one failure is one to many. But on the flip side I know I was not happy and life was pretty miserable being too heavy to get out and enjoy life as I do now. I wanted that more then anything for my daughters as well. We have all lost around 65 pounds each and we are never looking back to the sadness of being overweight at a young age. I wish that for you too!
  18. Since surgery I've lost 10 lbs and I'm still in second week... Since I began the presurgery process in down 22lbs and my clothes are loose. I haven't even had a fill yet. I'm glad the pounds are dripping but I'm afraid if it goes too fast my skin won't be able to keep up with the weight loss. Any skin pointers? Lotions exercises miracles anything?

    Weight loss

Last diet I was on, I lost 15lbs in 6 weeks, and that was pretty fast! That works out to a pound every 3 days, approximately. You are losing pounds in half the time! Why would you be discouraged?
  20. Just wondering how everyone is doing 8 months post-op. I had a good 6 month follow up with doc who said I am on track. I got a FitBit for my bday and it is pretty awesome at tracking my fitness, sleep patterns, hydration and caloric intake/burn. I highly recommend it just because it really gives a great visual of what you are doing! Doc says to aim for 25 more lbs by 1st anniversary. I was plateauing every 10 lbs, lose the 10 fast then plateau again. It seems the plateaus are longer now, but my clothes are getting too big for me still, so although the scale doesn't show it, I know my body is still changing and maybe it's turning fat into muscle. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Highest was 261, pre surgery 241, current 173. I was walking 3 miles twice a week and last week walked at least 2 miles each day for 7 days! I was on vacation though. Now that it's back to reality and work, I am going to aim for 3-4 times a week, adding hills for the cardio portion.I have found many nodules, pea sized to marble sized on my outer thighs, neck, and calves which I assume are lipomas, but have an appt with regular MD to look into this. Anyone else have these? The are a little painful with pressure. I still can only eat a few bites...of anything. My doc wants me to just eat 3 meals a day, but I think I'd die. I wouldn't get enough nutrients with as little as I eat. I personally think eating 5 times a day is fine, especially because I am eating healthy. I still have trouble with meat of any kind. I used to love Water, it's all I drank, but post surgery it has a funny taste to me and is not as satisfying as it used to be...weird huh? Anyone else? I know tastes and preferences change post surgery, but water?! I feel like my stomach will never be the same again and I have just gotten used to the new feelings/limits. I love fruits, nuts, vegetables, yogurt. I take Vitamin B12 daily and should take multi-vites daily but I often forget that one. I have a really bad case of reflux...worse since surgery and oh my is it painful sometimes. I would like to hear how everyone is doing, if you are having the same issues, or any info you want to share about how you are managing your activity, diet, etc. Have any of you looked into the skin removal step? I am on the fence as to whether I will do that or not. Any thoughts? Hope all of you July sleevers are doing well. -PZ

    Courage or fear?

:confused:Last night I couldn't stop thinking about so many things. I'm scared and I haven't even seen my doctor yet. So why am I even pursuing getting the band? Because my lower back hurts if I stand too long, because I used to be able to walk really fast and I can't do that any more, because I hear myself trying not to breathe like I've just been exercising for an hour. And I'm freaking out about the thought of something inside me. What if it doesn't work, and my body rejects it for some reason? And smaller portions of food, and not being able to eat sweets; really having those choices taken away from me, but that in itself is a choice, one I'm choosing to make. I need to look in to why I'm so depressed about that. Oh, I know it's partly because cookies are comfort food for me, and I know that when I was growing up there wasn't enough food much of the time, so I sneak it now, and hide it. But I feel like there's more. I'm afraid of having that taken away from me, and I need to get to the point where I'm more afraid of gaining more weight, and sometimes I am there. And I keep coming back to this site; I love it here, so there must be some part of me that's saying, "Come on, girl, just keep putting one foot in front of the other." So I'll go to see my doctor on Thursday, and I will do just that. Because I think of the other side of the coin, too, the thinner me, the one everybody told me was so pretty when I was in high school. I want her back.

    Week 33 1/2.....100 Pound Club

WOW Laura...you are amazing!!!! That was really fast (at least for me watching you...I know how hard you worked for this). Congrats on getting in the CENTURY CLUB!!! -BG
  23. My surgery is scheduled for 12/9 at 6am...I'm emotional for some reason. I dont really know why. I have been waiting for this day for years but now I'm terrified. Not sure if it's anxiety or fear of surgery. I feel like I could burst out crying at any moment. I have been on the liquid diet since 12/4, but I worry if my liver has shrunk enough for surgery. I worry if I will wake up from the anesthesia. I worry if I will recover fast enough to return to work on 12/14. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??

    Throbbing in my sleeve?!

Sounds like you ate too fast...causing a spasm. There's an app called 20 minutes that I use. Essentially you eat on a timed basis
