  1. And are likely low on vitamins? Change that and see how you feel about everything. Good luck, but count your blessings that you aren't struggling to lose or crazy sick with complications 💜
  2. Do you have any complications (besides hair loss) ?
  3. Hello all thank you for posting great info I have learned alot. I was sleeved 3/18/2019 and have some severe complications. I am getting revised today to bypass. Hope this helps. I had severe acid and bile reflux. I was unable to eat or drink. Currently waiting to be wheeled off to the ER. This was unexpected. I was well researched on the sleeve.. now to research RYGB. Thanks again for sharing all the great info Just wanted to add I'm 5'06" I weighed 233 on my surgery date and weigh 206 today.

    Back Pain

Thanks all. I am still losing really, really quickly (sounds great, but its because of some really unpleasant complications). So, I'll keep working on my core and hope it goes away.

    RNY surgery not as Expected

I had a few complications post-op (marginal ulcer, hernia, gallbladder removal, med change required because my BP was bottoming out). I wasn't losing weight like I anticipated. Blah blah. But, like I predicted in my "yup. i regret this." post... the further away from the complications you get, the less you have the feeling of regret. Now that it's all over with and I can function like everyone else who had successful surgery, I feel less WTF about it. It'll get better with time. Glad you have a surgeon who takes you seriously! I don't know what I would have done if mine hadn't.
  6. I had my RNY on 1-29-18 and no complications. I was up and walking 2 hours after surgery and made it a point that every hour to get up and do a lap around the hallway then come back and do my incentive spirometer. I was released the next day which was great. I took tylenol the day after I was home for the slight aches I had from the incisions and didn't have to take any since. It has been trial and error with foods I can tolerate.....I can't do anything with tomato paste, beef is OK if ground only, pork has to be very lean and I sadly can not do chicken wings.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

I'm at Toronto Western hospital waiting to be prepped for surgery. So nervous as I has a little one at home with ASD who needs me. He is a big part of why I'm doing this RNY. I need to be healthy and active to be able to meet his needs. Pray for me for a complication free surgery and recovery! Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Dec 2018 surgery updates please

I had the sleeve surgery 12/14 and have lost 52 pounds. No complications at all. Very pleased with my decision. My dr wants me to eat 1200 calories a day but I find that extremely hard unless I’m eating something I know I really shouldn’t. I stick to high protein, low carb and try to get 1000-1100 calories. Dec 2018 surgery updates please

I'm so jealous! I had my sleeve the day after yours and have only lost 35 pounds in 4 months. I know, I know, I started out at a lower weight and I'm a girl, but still, you're ROCKING IT! I've done well, no complications, no problems, just slow losing and some stalls, but I am hanging in there knowing that I'm doing everything I'm supposed to be doing, exercising, eating 600-800 calories and the weight will come off when it comes off.
  10. I am 5 mos post op and have had zero complications till now I just ate salad with chicken (take out ) house dressing not sure what’s in it. So about 15 min after eating I got really hot and sweaty and got scared but not chest pain at all then it passed Has anyone had this happen before

    RNY surgery not as Expected

Complications are terrible. So glad your Surgeon was able to catch and correct them. Stay strong. Safe recovery 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
  12. So I really wanted to be one of those people who posted a triumphant positive story about getting a bypass surgery with no complications. Sadly that hasn’t been the case. I had a gastric bypass done on April 1 and was discharged on April 2. I was feeling good, walking, and able to sip liquids. My surgeon said everything was routine and I was looking good. When I went home the evening of April 2, I felt a little bloated but not terrible. By 1:30a I woke up from my sleep feeling nauseous and started throwing up. By 4a on April 3 I was back in the hospital. My surgeon discovered that there was twisting in my small intestines which was preventing my liquids from going down. April 4 I was back in surgery. My surgeon says that she’s fixed the problem but in order to do so, a long surgical cut had to be made (no more tiny laparoscopic scars for me). I woke up in serious pain but still trying to have positive spirit. I’ve been poked a prodded for blood samples, redoing IV lines, etc. It’s now April 6, I’m still in the hospital because I basically can’t move without a nurses help and I’m still experiencing serious pain. Ive sipped a bit of water and feel so full after just sipping that I’m questioning if the corrective surgery on my intestines was done right. Did I make the biggest mistake of my life. I just question why I did this to myself. I feel my positive spirit disappearing. I question if I’ll be ok. I keep thinking they will send me home and another complication will pop up. This is the first time in life where I cannot function without third party assistance and I feel so helpless.
  13. Any particular reason for this? (Sounds too complicated for me already, LOL ).
  14. Dr. David Provost was my surgeon at Baylor Scott and White in Temple TX about 2 hours south of DFW. He is one of the pioneers in bariatric surgery in Texas with decades of experience. He was in the Fort Worth area for many years before coming here to be the medical director of their program. As a nurse practitioner myself, I checked him out thoroughly before my first appointment. I think I was in very good hands since my sleeve went smoothly and I have had no complications whatsoever (I am 11 months out now). They have 2 really good nutritionists and some very knowledgeable RNs in their program and I have absolutely no complaints. They did all the work with getting insurance approval and making sure the requirements were met. Good luck to you wherever you choose....
  15. Saw my surgeon for my pre-op and she confirmed that she does not use a bougie, but uses an endoscope. She showed me the size. Pretty small. She said she uses it because she can look at the stomach at the same time and check for complications. And then can use it for the leak test. She put my mind at ease. 16. I have Aetna. My Doctors office had a checklist of everything and all appointments needed. I imagine yours does too. Once everything was complete and submitted they sent it to Aetna and I was approved in a week. I believe I was 4.5 months from start to finish. I think that is best case scenario. I was pretty lucky, none of my appointments took a long time to get and I didn’t have any complications that would have extended my time. I had to go to 3 appointments with the nutritionist and could not gain weight. I had to have a home sleep study, get an endoscopy, bloodwork, see surgeon twice, see a psychologist and I think a pulmonologist. I would have to go through my folder to be certain. I think you can use whatever Dr you wish if you are willing to pay for it. Aetna does not cover the psych evaluation, however they require it. It is a long computerized questionnaire administered by a psychologist. I think it was $150 or so. My Doctors office told me they make sure they cover all the bases so your insurance can’t say no. Aetna actually had a nurse call me for a few months following the procedure to see how I was doing and asking me if I needed anything.
  17. Just a little thing to try and bolster folk fretting about all the less than ideal things (and the hard to compete with success stories) they read here, especially those who haven’t spent time on lots of similar forums. Research online has been a chunky part of my day job, so although I’m not immune to the negative bias and hype I can pause and process that out. If you only have time to dip your toes in, use your own past experience as benchmark. How often do you post when all is just jogging along nicely and you don’t need advice or support? If you have more time, try ignoring the 4 worst experiences and the 2 best ones in every 10 posts and use a search engine to look for medical advice and evidence for things that mess with your head. Context is king. Everyone starts at a different weight and with a different set of head, body and life complications. So impressed by those who spare time to support all the concerned folk here and share the well deserved celebrations, but for those hovering and worried, this isn’t, in sum total, a real slice of life [emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Hello everyone. April 1st sleeve surgery here. Surgery went fine but had a first bad night. Nausea and vomiting but felt like a new person the next morning. My bp skyrocketed and I ran a fever but all gone today. Pain is minimal but it is hard getting water down. I want you to know that we all respond differently but even that minor complication isn't going to stop me. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. No regrets what’s so ever. I didn’t have any complications from surgery but if I had stayed the weight I was I would def have problems sooner or later. I’m def a healthier person now. I’ve lost 81 pounds now. You have to make the best choice you think for you. It’s not for everyone. Weight out your pros and cons. Good luck with whatever you decide. 😊

    Hair loss

Mine started with the sleeve after several months. My brush fills every couple days and clumps come out in the shower. I’m a year and a half post op but I’ve had complications so I’m a little malnourished plus I have autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. Just adding those facts so you don’t think the hair loss has to last as long as mine. Hair has thinned but luckily no bald spots *crosses fingers*

    ESG Self-Pay - Questions

Hope it all goes well for you. Some questions to ask should they not already be on your list of questions: how ESG has the doctor done? Success rate? Failure rate? What caused the failure? Anyone experience complications and what were they? Average excess weight loss of their ESG patients? Post op support program - is there one and what does it entail? What post-op medication is prescribed to help deal with initial pain?

    Slim Band removal

I had my band removed one year ago. My surgeon would not do the revision at the same time, which I’m glad as I had complications. I am now 8 days post op with VSG! I really wish I would have went with this originally! Good luck to you.
