    I agree this is pretty common. I actually think I had it before surgery --- I didn't realize I was as big as I was. Looking back on pictures now (there aren't a lot of them) I'm surprised how big I was. Having lost over 170 lbs, I still feel like the biggest person in the room a lot. I know I am not in my head --- at 5'10 and wearing small tops and size 10 pants I'm probably thinner than most, but I just don't see it. I'm not sure if eventually my brain will catch up or I'll have this issue ongoing...

    Vaping after Surgery

    No, pure nicotine is not a carcinogen. There are many carcinogenic compounds in tobacco but nicotine, in and of itself, is no more harmful than caffeine. Using vapor products, which are not burned, is intended to be a harm reduction tool for adults to end their addiction to combustible tobacco cigarettes by replacing the nicotine and the overall feel of inhaling and exhaling it. Is it a good idea to do forever? No. However, I was able to quit my 10 year cigarette habit with the help of vaping. While I know this is not the case everywhere, my surgeon was actually ok with me continuing to use my vapor device as long as I did not take back up with combustible cigarettes. Ironically, the abdominal pain after surgery helped me cut down on my intake a great deal and I've nearly quit just as a matter of course.
  3. I’m currently 10 months post op. I was sleeved March 12, 2021 at 200 lbs. I’m 5’3 and weigh 149 currently. These last two months have been the slowest months for me. Like 3-5 lbs per month. I know, it’s Heart breaking 😒. What I’ve realized is because I’m smaller, my body requires less calories to lose, so I googled a calorie calculator and I have to eat 680 CALORIES TO KEEP LOSING. That’s insane!! I would starve every single day and be miserable, but my goal weight is 110-120. Has anyone else gotten to my weight and dealt with the struggle of trying to continue to lose weight on such low calories? How did that work for you? I’m currently trying to substitute meals with tea, so I can manage 680 calories. I guess it’s working lol.

    Today is the day, after having my surgery pushed back due to Covid staffing shortages from 12/27, till today 1/10 I am excited but so very nervous. This being my first surgery ever it’s a little nerve wracking. Wish me luck!!

    1 month post-Op work out/Exercise?

    Eh, as much or little as I felt like, really. I knew if I made it too 'perfect' and too strict I wouldn't do it. I just promised myself: I will walk. 3 times a week. Sometimes with a friend, making it a long frosty trip around the lakes; about 2 hours with bench breaks, looking at the dumb ducks. Sometimes, I'd walk 10 blocks out and 10 blocks back at 9.50pm after a long day at work, 20 minutes or so. I knew I needed positive experiences, and my competitive gene would carry me the rest of the way. Sometimes, I walked more days in a week. Because it wasn't a sad chore, it was something I wanted and could manage. It doesn't matter how fast you walk or run for that matter, all that matters for calories is distance. Actually, the only thing that really matters is you do it. Just walk. Get out there. Promise yourself you make it a short one when it's a rainy day, and that you'll make it a longer one when the sun is shining. Bring people along; a podcast; bread crumbs for the dumb ducks

    I used Ramsey Healthcare at the Woodlands in Kettering. My surgeon was Mr Sutton and bariatric nurse was Emma. They were and are an amazing team. Yes I paid a premium, but I have so much after care and lifetime support. I interviewed 3 different surgeons across the country before I made my decision and I am glad I chose him. Within 6 weeks of first consultation I was in and having my surgery. i had my surgery in 13th July, I weighed 15 stone. I now weight 9 stone 10. I have had no complications at all! I used a bank loan to fund this as the interest rate was more favourable. It did cost me £10k but it’s the best money I have ever spent! i also have an on hand dietician and an app which has lifetime support and contact with a range of professionals good luck in your journey!! 😊

    I am right there with ya. Slow loser I think so too 🥲 Last 4 weeks and I have lost only about 6 pounds. There was ofc 2 or 3 weeks of stall but even now my scale isn't budging much. It can get very frustrating and disappointing when it's only the beginning of the 2nd month. Le sigh, hope by the end of the month I can at least lose 10 pounds in total for this month, otherwise it would be highly disappointing 😭😭😭
  9. OMG..I had surgery on October 29, was in the hospital 10 days. I’m on clear liquids and protein shakes. Can’t wait to get to the next part! I had liquid diarrhea every few minutes the entire time. The first night back I non stopped puked and had forceful diarrhea from 9pm until 7 am the next day. I think they were 15 minutes between where I was ok. I was SO exhausted! It finally stopped and I was so exhausted. I still haven’t gotten sleep since December 28th. I’m SO tired.

    Day 1- through month 3: Walking. Walking. Walking. Month 4-7: Interval running, home exercises (like 10 minutes, 3 times a week lol) Month 8: Gym (weights), sprint training, rugby Month 10- (now): Gym (weights), sprint training, boxing
  11. I never had diarrhea but didn’t have a bowl movement the first 10 days post op it was terrible. My Drs discharge papers said to call them if I have diarrhea longer than 5 days. So I’d call your Dr especially if your not getting in all your liquids

    You are so brave to have that whole body lift! You must be so happy with yourself! How in the world do you recover from that surgery with no position that isn’t painful? Honestly, my backside isn’t that bad. I would love to have it done right so I look good afterwards, but that’s not going to happen because a cosmetic surgeon won’t touch me. It is a constant source of misery for me that in spite of trying everything, I never got to a BMI below 40. I’ve kept off 130 pounds, but now I just gain and lose the same 10 pounds.
  13. So the family has been bugging me about my alcohol consumption since Covid started. Full disclosure, prior to the new year, I was drinking as least 2 (sometimes 3, on rare occasions 4) drinks A DAY. Either an espresso martini or red wine. So to get them off my back, and prove to myself I could do it, I agreed to cut down to no more than one one a day for a month. I thought this would be a piece of cake, but lol and behold, I ended up non-compliant the first 2 days. Mostly because I “forget” that I am on a mission. So on day 3, I put a sticky note on the vodka bottle when I have a drink to remind me I already had a drink that day….and I tell Mr. so he can remind me at dinner if I absently reach for the wine. Since doing this the past 3 days, it’s been working. When I quit smoking (again) last year (I had quit for 10+ years, went on a vacay in 2019 where I accepted an offered cigarette, and just like that, I was smoking again). And my quitting attempts last spring was also thwarted by me “forgetting “ that I was trying to quit. So I tossed all my lighters, got rid of my outdoor ashtrays and told EVERYONE I was trying to quit, and asked to remind me if I forget , but not to enforce me (cuz I know that will just piss me off), as I want to make the decisions myself. I’ve mostly stopped since about April 2021, but I admit I’ve had maybe 10-15 in the past 9-ish months….which is a heck of a lot better than 10-15 A DAY. Final examples: I log everything I eat. Having a running total of my calories, has a bit of influence on my food choices at the end of the day. I weigh myself every day…so I am aware if my weight starts to move from its happy place. Just a couple other “reminders” for me to keep myself in check. This approach may not work for everyone, but I seem to have moderate success with it. Anyway…this was my long winded attempt to suggest you try to find what it is that works for you and what doesn’t (either on your own or with the help of a therapist), and make efforts to implement this knowledge to achieve your goal(s). You may not be perfect, and that’s ok, small changes for the better are better than non at all. Good Luck! ❤️
  14. I'm losing more than weight. Ran labs to prep for my annual exam and since my pre-op labs in September (sleeved 10/13), I've lost:

    • 39pts off my Total Cholesterol including...
      • 29pts off LDL
      • 33pts off Triglycerides
    • 18pts off fasting glucose & almost normal range
    • A1C is lower on low end of "pre-diabetic" range

    My surgeon does labs at 6 months, so this is cool info to have in the meantime!

  15. weight loss slows down a lot the farther out you get. My first month I lost 16 lbs. Then for the next six months or so, I lost 8-12 lbs a month. After that, I dropped down to about 5-8 lbs a month. And after the first year, it was like two lbs a month. This happens to almost everyone. The closer you get to normal weight, the slower and harder it is to lose. I remember going to Weight Watchers meetings before I had weight loss surgery. I used to mentally roll my eyes at these women who were only slightly overweight moaning about how hard it was to lose 10 lbs. Yea - right. Try losing 100+ lbs. But now I totally get it!! btw - I agree with the above poster. If you're straying too far from your clinic's plan, then get back on it. Track everything. If you're committed, you WILL continue to lose weight. I lost for 20 months.
  16. Just got my new date (rescheduled from Jan 4 due to COVID hospitalizations), it's now March 8th. I'm so ready! Let's get this show on the road!! I've recently stared reading and following the Pound of Cure book/diet. I hope to lose at least another 10 lbs. before surgery.

    I watched my father die over a 10 year period after a stroke when he was only 56. He didn’t take care of himself. That will not be me. I will do this, become healthy and be around to take care of my family.
  18. To be honest. I drove the next night after surgery. I didn’t drive far though. Luckily I live in a neighborhood where everything is close by. I really had no problems after surgery aside from being tired. Many things I’ve read about I did not have to deal with. I am having a very easy recovery with a few minor “hiccups” here and there. The hardest thing in the 1st 10 days was that I was tired. Now I’m not tired at all. I have yet to drive more than 20 minutes but I feel like I’d be fine driving at least 45 minutes to an hour. I’ll probably take an hour drive this weekend which will be 3 weeks post op.

    ms sss love it! I wouldn’t mind a pool at a nice resort in a warm area for sure!! My sons, age 17 and 19, are going with me. I may not be able to hike the entire AT trail but I’m gonna try as long as I can then I’ll really need that R and R by the pool lol

    Anyone for October 2020?

    I am post op bypass 13 months ( surgery was 10/07/2020) ) and am I now drinking alcohol every night . I have gained back a few pounds Like 8 and am scared to death. I feel like I am heading back toward terrible habits and need to regain back control now. I am working with a Psychologist that's not very good for PTSD issues and major depressive disorder. I have got control of that but I have now a new problem= alcohol! A year ago, I would never think of drinking on a week night or much at all but now it's become my new addiction and it leads to me over eating and then the dreaded weight gain. I have now drank every night for the past two months and I can't seem too let it go. This had never been me before as my family is filled with alcoholics and I could never understand it and now I do? It kills pain and drowns out so much. It definitely affects me differently after surgery and takes very little to have any affect at all. I am drunk or affected at sip 3. It is such a great escapism and good lord with Covid and the way of the world all I want to do is escape in a legal way and alcohol is legal. I am on disability and have a lot of pain issues and the doctors and psych's try to say its a lot mental / PTSD/ Stress related but they haven't lived in my body. I have had over 15 surgeries and have had many scars and all kinds of mesh - They don't live this body and don't feel my pain. They tell me I need to learn to live with it. Well hell , I am doing the best I can and alcohol does a great job of dimming that. But I know I need to find a better answer and am looking to my community as I know I can't be alone in my pain or journey. My New Year's resolution is to get back to that person that doesn't drink in response to pain. That learns to deal with it. That get's her weight under control in the meantime. Sending out an SOS to my community and asking for good advice or just shared empathy to know I am not the only one and that we do not travel on this journey alone.

  23. Hey there, AnotherGuy, from another Ohioan! I am 18 mos. post-op, BMI about 25.1 now. Several months ago I started sleeping under a down comforter (that was in the summer!). The down comforter isn’t doing the trick any more, so I sleep under an electric blanket at the highest setting of 10 with a dachshund plastered next to me. My hands feel like blocks of ice, and I sleep with socks on every night. But I’ll take it, happy to be at this point. Interesting about the iron (mine checks out ok).
  24. 25 days out and down 18 pounds. I am sticking to the once a week weigh in. I agree that it feels like it’s coming off sooo slooow. I reminded myself that I would have overeaten over the holidays so I “saved” 10 more pounds. We all need Jedi mind tricks. How are folks doing with their vitamins? I’m not as consistent as I want to be yet. Doing a once a day chewable bariatric vitamin and 3 patches - Vitamin D, vitamin B and Collagen.
  25. What phase are you in? I think refried beans helped me once I hit the purée phase. Now I’m going naturally after about 10 days of needing laxatives/stool softeners to produce a movement
