  1. I'm really....I don't know...lost? I'm 4 days out and all I want to do is eat! I thought this surgery would help with that. I don't understand what the heck I'm supposed to be doing, other than clear liquids. I can't tell the difference between "I'm full", "I'm bloated with gas", "I'm having a spasm in my stomach", and "I'm hungry". It all feels the same! Presurgery, I would know how hungry I truely was by the intensity of my food craving. Post-surgery, the cravings are intense all day every day. There is no satiation. I'm so frustrated! Is it because I'm sick to death of the stupid clear liquid diet? I mean, I've been on this stupid diet for 19 days now! And I hate sweets! I'd give just about anything for chef salad, or a nibble of cheese...or just anything that isn't sweet. And I'm over the broth already. God, I feel like a toddler in a toy isle who has just figured out the toy I bought is a gift for someone else and I don't get to play with it. I need some direction or guidance, or a regimented daily food schedule for the rest of my liquid diet(s) phase (3 weeks!) Help!?!

    Annoyed....dr vs ins co

I was informed i was suppost to get my surgery yesterday the 26th of oct, so i started my liquids on the 19th all went well lost 6lbs. When i called my drs office on the 24th to see where we stand and if we are a go for the surgery on the 26th she told me that she hasnt heard anything yet from my ins. co. So i took it apon myself and called my ins co and asked if they rec my paper work n to see whats going on n they said they just rec my paper work on the 21st of this month n it can take 10 to 15 business days to see if i am approved. also, the reason they rec my paper work so late was bc the ins co internal fax wasnt working so this was apperently going on since the end of sept beginng f oct. Also im back on solids, bc i couldntdo the liquids knwg i didnt have to so that only lasted 2 extra days.I realllllly want to get ths surgery, bc when i lost only the 6lbs from doin the liquids i started to feel great. But im becomming very impatient!!!!

    One Year Post Op

Thanks. The first pic was taken shortly after surgery. I had surgery on February 12, 2016. The updated pic was taken yesterday, March 10, 2017. So a little over a year between them. Around 100 pounds down. [emoji3]

    Desicion made

My husband's health problems were pretty severe and he was afraid of surgery. I can say now he has been 100 lbs lighter, at 6'2", 210 lbs., since sleeving three years ago. I wish you the best, our lives changed drastically to the BEST ever with the sleeve. We only wish we had met our surgeon 10 years earlier!
  5. I have my first appointment on March 1st and I also have United Healthcare. My nurse is super nice and gave me a lit of things I have to do. Also I ready scheduled my psychological evaluation, support group attendance, and my nutrition visit will be scheduled for after I see the doctor on my first visit. Like you I have been over weight my whole life and I am ready for a change. I have had my kids and married my love and want to be proud of my life instead of hiding behind everything because of my weight. My current weight is 230 lbs but my highest was after I gave birth to my daughter and that was 260. I lost 30 lbs by essentially starving myself for months and now can only eat very little without gaining 5-10 lbs. I also have high cholesterol and horrible sciatica, trouble sleeping, plus hypothyroidism. I feel like I am a walking time bomb!!!! Please keep us posted Bridget Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-Surgury stuff

Hey, its 12:54 april 24th 2006....i should be studying exams but i'm here doing my journal! I will start with what i did before getting into this, since i don't have much to say about the pre-op diet (i started 1 hour ago...its a 10 day diet consisting of yogurt and cottage cheese) So....around march i started thinking out of the blue...I need help, i've tried everything, I don't even know what clicked but all of a sudden i felt the urge to look up everything on the RNY gastric bypass. While i was researching that i found info on the Lap-band...which led me here. I was looking for forums where real people were discussing real issues. I started out just talking about it with my parents, they were ok about it but quickly warmed up to the idea. My mom did research and found someone in Toronto. This was the TCC (toronto cosmetic clinic) So i booked a consult in person for late may. I was searching the forum and found out no one really knew them and their reputation was not established, and their post-op care didn't add up. I opted for the TLBC (Toronto laparascopic band centre). Where i could do a phone consult which i booked for april 5th... Filled out the forms, did the consult, set the date....May 4th 2007. I spent countless hours on LBT researching, viewing threads, looking at before and after pics, reading horror stories about the complications. Now comes the real test...10 days, pre-op diet! I will keep you (if anyone is actually reading) posted!
  7. I am getting the band on 10/12 and I just started my period today and was wondering if anyone out there knows if this will stop the surgery. I sure hope not, I have waited so long for this, and have been on my two week pre-op and everything. I have never had a regular perirod due to my PCOS, but it always seems to come at the most inconvient times. I guess I can thank that to losing 8.4 lbs in 2 weeks...I just don't know what to do and need some help. Thanks in advance!!! Jess

    Starting to feel hopeless

Hi. I'm Joshlyn. I'm 23, 24 in 21 days. I don't work, well I kind of do, I sell Scentsy Wickless Candles, similar to a Mary Kay style company. But I do go to school full time. I am having my surgery on the 23rd of this month. It's taken 10 months, it was only supposed to take 6. But instead I got denied the first time for my psychological clearance, then had trouble getting cardiac clearance. I almost gave up. I thought... I'm never going to get approved, I am just going to be fat forever. And I'm almost 300, I'm about 295. Don't give up. just try your damndest to get your surgery and just know, even if there's hurdles, they aren't a brick wall, they can be overcome.

What Was Your Plastic Surgery Experience?

I just had it done about 4 weeks ago, but mine was a lot more involved. I had about 12 pounds of excess skin removed/tummy tuck/massive hernia repair combination. I won't lie, it was definitely painful. The first couple of days home from the hospital I definitely had a couple "oh gawd what have I done to myself?" moments. But around day 10, the pain subsided considerably and I was like "oh hey I look kinda awesome!" I actually posted my before and after pics here if you'd like to see them. It's pretty dramatic: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/169905-tummy-tuck-before-after-pics/ I'm definitely thrilled with my results and think it was a very good decision. I'm just dealing with some other physical issues from the surgery that aren't common. I think if you're only having skin removal the recovery will be a lot easier and quicker.

  11. I've been cleared for the following items which were under the heading in my handout, "with surgeon's approval" -- - proetein liquid supplements (1000 calores per day) - skim, 1% or soy milk mixed with whey or soy Protein powders (limited to 20 gm protein/serving) - fat free cream Soups - fat free, plain yogurts or plain, non-fat Greek yogurt I have a good relationship with my dietician and she seems to advocate common sense over strict rules. Like, 3 days before surgery nothing but Clear liquids. But before, no need to torture oneself. She also said non-starchy greens were okay up to a week before surgery as long as they were chewed well. She doesn't like the idea of Jello unless you let it practically melt before swallowing. With this in mind, can someone recommend specific products? Grocery stores and shopping are alien to me and all I have is me. ;( Like, any particular brands of Soup? Yogurt? Not a big fan of plain yogurt, but I guess when you're starving, it serves its purpose. She also recommended throwing some scrambled egg whites in broth and mixing well. And Vitamins. The woman at unjury was very nice. She threw in samples of chewable multi-vitamins, Calcium citrate plus and B-12. How long does one have to take chewables? What is recommended other than a multi-Vitamin? What is recommended when chewables are no longer needed, or does that day ever come? Sorry if a lot of this info is readily available and I know I've seen most of this discussed somewhere or other, but frankly I don't remember where or all the info - I was on brain overload. Many thanks for thoughts and recommendations. Time is short, diet starts 10/22.

    Will my marriage survive?

My husband is getting this surgery and I have all these fears. I hope I dont run into these issues. He is already handsome, loves to spend money and have fun. We are at the 10 year mark so Im sure he is getting bored. We have 7 and 9 yo boys and it would kill me to lose him.

    Will my marriage survive?

Sounds like she is freaking out because your loosing weight and might become attractive to the other sex. When I would loose weight in the past prior to surgery My husband would try to sabatough my efforts by buying pans of sweets and bring them home. On the other hand I would get jelous when he would lose weight and pick fights for no reason! My suggestion is to Grab her by both arms look her deep in her eyes and tell her that no matter how much I change on the out side I will always love you . You and Our children are the most important thing in my life! even though she already knows that verbalizing it will make her feel secure. This is what made me toss my insecurity out the window and bring me back down to reality. I have been mariied for 10 years and have 3 children. Me and my husband have also been to hell and back but have made through and are stronger. Try to stay positive and let her know how feel. It is very difficult as the sleever not to get deppressed over everything happening in your body during the first month. Tell her that you need her to support you through this difficult time and tell her you love her Hang in there you will both do great and there is nothing that will pull you apart! This surgery will bring you closer to one another once all the weight starts to shed

  16. I was just sleeved on 10/10... I will tell you the most important things that helped my hospital stay better. 1) a heating pad- I kept this on my lower back and it kept me relaxed as much as possible. It helped settle some gas pain 2) chapstick- your lips with hurt since you have a tube in during surgery. It really helped me 3) slippers with a sole on them as well as a nice sized robe the nurse can put over your shoulders to cover your backside when walking 4) try to find something for dry mouth before you go. That was the one thing I didn't do and everything still tastes disgusting because my mouth is so dry. I can't shake the feeling, but the hospital may have something. 19. Age: 19 Sleeved: October 17th 2017 SW: 297 CW: 255 GW: HEALTHY AND HAPPY. I’m almost 8 weeks post op and I’m down 42 pounds! I’m ahead of my surgeons program (at 12 weeks I should be down 50 pounds so I’m alittle ahead). I know everyone is different when it comes to this and how we use this tool but I’m just curious on other peoples experiences, how fast they lost with types of diet and exercises they do. Share your progression stories! [emoji173]️
  20. Started my journey back in April of this year. I had to do 6 months for insurance and just by following their plan (plus the pre-op diet); I lost almost 40 lbs. Surgery date: 10/30/17 Age: 44 HW: 380 back in March/April SW: 343 CW: 305 Goal: 225-235 Never, in my wildest dreams, could I ever image the surgery would work this well. Granted, in no way am I disappointed, but thought I'd experience slower loss. However it seems I can average 3-5lbs per week. My next small goal is to see my weight go below 300 lbs!

    Who Else Is Not Losing?

Was sleeve 10/16 and think I'm coming out of my SECOND stall already. Was stuck at 217 for almost two weeks about 5 weeks post op...got down to 210 and have hung around that for a week and am now finally dropped down to 209. From what I've read, when your body hits 10-15% losses, it plateaus...trying to hang onto your weight....because it thinks you're going to starve. It's frustrating but completely normal. As Laura said, keep an eye on your Water intake, change up your exercise and even change up your food. For me, it's hard to have a regular BM without a laxative still...and I ONLY weigh myself after a BM now. Sometimes it's 2-3 days. But something else I've tried is to get my Protein in EARLY in the day and then focus of veggies (aka fiber!) for my final meal or snack of the day. That seems to help my body get out of the plateau too.
  22. I'm 10 months out and I've noticed an increase in what I believe is gas pain for the last month. I have severe cramping and abdominal pain. Get boated to the point that pushing on my stomach hurts. This happens after I eat and is miserable. I can't seem to find a food that seems to be the cause. Anyone else have this issue?? It is such a miserable pain- just like I felt post op. gas relief chews don't cut it
  23. I AM SLEEVED!! So I was here at 6:00 am this morning. Went in for surgery at 7:30 and woke up SLEEVED about 10:30. My surgeon came in just a bit ago and said my stomach wall wasn't too thick from the band. He also said I will be on Clear liquids about 2 weeks and not to push it because the area of the stomach at the top where the band was will end a little more time. I'm not In too much pain, no nausea. I guess that $130 pill worked. And I AM SLEEVED! Sent from my SM-T537V using the BariatricPal App
