I was also told to do Pre-Op Clear diet for one day, I was surprised my date is 20/01/2021 and CW 190 lbs 5 feet 4 inches
  2. I'm on an SSRI that causes weight gain too and it works for me after trying many different antidepressants, so I have to stick with it. They say it only adds about 10 pounds in general. So yeah, losing weight is harder when you're fighting against weight-positive meds, but it's definitely do-able.
  3. I’m also in Orange County California…. i had a student ask me the other day (when it was actually 80 degrees out) why I had five shirts on. Lol i corrected her and told her she was wrong: I had on TWO shirts on…..and a sweater……and a jacket and…. I was STILL cold. i just can’t function in the cold anymore. I hope it gets better. I am about 10 months out right now and I am desperately looking forward to summer so we can have the heat turned back on in our state 😅
  4. I agree with you but I live in the great state of Alaska and it’s below zero here! And you know what I can find the scammers everywhere and now they’ve got the COVID-19 thing going on to everything’s a little bit different our whole world is changed, so just wait for the next shoe to drop and as I change the World to change still is hope always hope
  5. I found my husband on a online dating site in 2007, married in 2009 and still together. Had my RNY 11/01, down 55lbs, from 310lbs. This surgery is the best thing i ever did. Good luck!!! Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. Around 3-5 pounds each month but stalled at 10 months so far (6 pounds from normal BMI) ugh!!

    Do hiccups mean anything?

Thank you for these answers. I had sleeve on jan 10, im postop day 3; noticed hiccups and burps while eating. No nausea/vomiting since hospital stay. Im sipping water slowly but i think im drinking shakes quickly. Thx to your input i am going to focus amd stop eating/drinking following hiccups or belching
  8. There was a study a few years ago, I only read the summary, but basically what they said is that people who aren't normally breakfast eaters will still eat the same amount as they would normally later in the day, but it addition, they'll be eating the breakfast too, so it will be more calories total. However, those who normally eat breakfast will eat MORE during the rest of the day if they skip breakfast. In other words, you need to do what comes naturally to you if you want to reduce calories. This study did not look at people who have had bariatric surgery, and I know my surgery center says to eat breakfast, but I tend to drink a protein shake around 9 and then sometimes I have a "snack" around 10:30 if I drink the protein shake too early. Of course, I also tend to eat lunch around 11:30 (later recently, as I've gotten through the worst of the post-surgery hunger I had).

havent lost in 2 1/2 months 10 months post op

Thanks everyone! I think you're right, it definitely seems like the last 10-15 lbs are going to be a beast. Im switching up my workouts a little here and there as is, but I think Im actually going to make my major focus hydration. I can always try to drink more water.
  10. I'm 10 lbs. from my new goal I set at the time of my surgery. Since my revision from VSG to RNY in August 2021, about 9 to 10 lbs. a month, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. I've lost about 65 lbs. in 5 months.

I would really consider what your real goals are, 160 seems realistic. Many on here have said the last 10 are the hardest. I wouldn’t try anything extreme unless you’re going to do it the rest of your life to keep it off. Look closely at what you could shave off of food. Could you eat one less bite at each meal? Could you mix up your exercise routine? They body responds when we try new things. Have you met up with TOPS or WW? Do you have a group or friend to have a friendly competition? Sometimes I watch 70lbs of life on YouTube. She has an online Weightloss challenge. I personally just broke a stall by reintroducing rubber bands on one lifting day, leaning into keto, and now use a noise machine for better sleep. Hopefully I’ll get your problem of the last 10 by next year. Good luck.

    Taming Cravings

My main strategy is to fill up on low-calorie foods. Once a week, I buy and prep a bunch of snack veggies (celery, carrot chips, cucumber slices, pepper slices, and cherry tomatoes). I portion them out in meal prep containers, one for each day, and I have a saved meal that I enter in My Fitness Pal at the beginning of the day. Then I snack on the veggies whenever I want (I usually split them between mid-morning and mid-afternoon), knowing that they’re already accounted for. I use Walden Farms “calorie-free” dressing as a dip. It is a LOT of food for ~60 calories. If I’m in the mood for something warm, my go-to is cauliflower rice with Flavor God cheese seasoning and Mrs. Dash. Or I make a soup with cauliflower rice and chicken broth. 20-30 calories and very satisfying. I have a great substitution for ice cream! Whip pasteurized egg whites (safe to eat without cooking) with cream of tartar, calorie-free sugar substitute, and flavoring of choice (vanilla is delicious but I like to experiment with different flavors of One-On-One) and freeze. It’s best to eat before it’s frozen solid, or after letting it soften for a few minutes. It makes about 1 cup for just 25 calories, and it’s dairy-free and high in protein. I also use it (without freezing) as a substitute for whipped cream and put it on 10-calorie sugar-free Jello. Sometimes just looking at the nutrition information is enough to deter me. One time someone brought donuts to work and they were calling my name. I looked up the nutrition info to see how bad a small glazed donut would be, and it was 280 calories! I could eat two Built Bars for that and I would enjoy them more, and once I looked at it that way, I had no desire to eat the donut. Not worth it!
  13. Here's my months - my surgery was early in December 2020, so I can just go by my app month by month: Month 1: -39.0 lbs Month 2: -23.2 lbs Month 3: -15.4 lbs Month 4: -12.1 lbs Month 5: -12.8 lbs Month 6: -14.1 lbs Month 7: -4.4 lbs Month 8: -9.3 lbs Month 9: -5.5 lbs Month 10: -6.6 lbs Month 11: -2.2 lbs Month 12: -3.3 lbs Month 13: -8.4 lbs* *COVID infection had me down five extra pounds, they've come right back. Probably dehydration. My 'real' month 13 loss is around 3-4 lbs.
  14. Hey there everyone. New here, but I figure you all have more wisdom than I do. I am having such a hard time! I am currently sitting in the 170's. Usually around 172-174. I am 5'5", and an athletic build. For instance, I wear a size 6 sometimes a size 4. I started out my weight loss journey at 280, but my SW was 241. I workout often, and eat around 1200 calories a day, but for some strange reason I have literally not moved in over 2 months. I forget how long now, but basically since October when I hit the 170's. Im feeling very frustrated. I don't know what to do differently. I track, I drink my water, I do weight lifting, I follow my plan that my nutritionist gave me. (most days). And yet, nothing. Is it possible my body is at my set weight? I still feel like I have a lot to lose. I have a lot of loose skin, but I definitely have at least 20 lbs of fat left to lose. I don't know how I could do things any differently. Im thinking of trying Intermittent fasting, or maybe Keto. or both. But I just don't know. I am at a loss. Do you guys have any advice? I can't afford to reach out to my NUT right now, (I don't have one with a program, I have to pay out of pocket), so I am following her getting back on track program, which is high protein low carb. But even that isn't making the scale budge.

    Struggling

For myself: routine im a teacher so my routine is pretty much set. I have never really been a foodie and I am fine eating the same thing every day….so….I have the same thing for lunch every day (P3 pack and a Greek yogurt). By eating the same stuff every day I am sure to get in my allotted protein (I’m actually at a lower level of protein than the normal Bariatric patient because of my kidneys). i have my set recipes that I make for dinner but the air fryer is my friend and I usually just eat two chicken wings, some cheese, and some fruit or veggies. If it’s not chicken wings I make sure my plate is well balanced and small. exercise: I am terrible and don’t really do this. I don’t because I am on my feet all day long walking and get 10k steps easy, then also come home and take the dog for a walk. And once a week on my “lazy” days I take my kids to the harbor and we walk a couple miles there too. So again, walking is my routine. It’s what I do every day and I don’t need it think about it anymore. Water: I have one of those water bottles with times on it. I drink one bottle before lunch. One bottle after lunch. That is 64 ozs of water. As long as I keep to my routine of finishing the bottle it works. all these things have evolved over time. It didn’t start out like that and I had to push myself to remember stuff and found myself frazzled with all the stuff to do. BUT: I’m on less medications now than I was before and I take them first thing in the AM. Calcium chewy bite I eat after school because it’s a time between meals. If you stay consistent it will eventually become a routine and second nature. (I am about 10 months out from surgery and down to 185pounds. My highest was 330 pounds)

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Looking at all the big numbers here, my loss seems miniscule 😂😂 Congrats to all for the losses. I am still stuck and hovering around the same weight for the last 10 days or so. This seems like a second stall? Not sure when the scale will start moving down 😭

2 days until GB surgery. Helpful tips?

Great, thank you. I will be coming home right after the surgery. No hospital stay due to COVID-19 increases. I didn't even think about the laxatives the night before...

    Paxil and Sleeve

You will have room for the pills in your stomach! I have to take 10 pills every evening, and I was able to take all of these a few hours after surgery. I had to take one pill a time and it took me an hour to take all of them at first, but now I'm back to taking all ten in one go.

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

I'm lucky with the caffeine. Just a unsweet iced tea a couple times a week. Stopped those this week. Glad that's not permanent! It's nice to have something to drink besides water since I don't like coffee of any kind. Nutritionist recommended UNJURY Chicken Soup Whey Protein powder to make broth. Apparently the taste is amazing and the extra protein makes it more filling. You can only order it on the UNJURY website. I like Premiere Protien Shakes, Optimum Whey Protien powders and ProtienO2 water. Concerned I won't be able to all the Protien I need all the time, so I also bought some unflavored Optimum Whey Protien powder to add to food. Nutritionist recommended whey Protien when using powders. You can get the Optimum and ProtienO2 from Amazon. I used Subscribe and Save to get up to 15% off. I also bought a highly-rated bariatric cookbook by Sarah Kent ($10 on Amazon). It helped me feel more optimistic about food post-recovery. I'm going to try some of the recipes before surgery to know what I like now and not when I'm hangry. One question for everyone...you going to use a post-surgery abdominal binder? Getting very mixed messages about those. Sent from my SM-G970U using BariatricPal mobile app

  23. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/10/well/eat/food-cravings-strategies.html?referringSource=articleShare I read this article and wondered what cravings people have, and what strategies you use to limit them? My weird craving has been ice cream which makes no sense because it’s cold outside and I’m lactose intolerant. I took more calcium tablets in case my body was asking for calcium and vitamin D. But what do you do for yourself when pie or cookies or chips are calling your name?

    10 months post-op

it took me 20 months to lose all my weight, and the last three or four months were slow as molasses. I was eating more than 680 calories, though. I was eating more like 1200. the closer you are to a normal BMI, the harder and slower it is to lose weight. Three to five lbs a month is actually pretty good. There were some months near the end when I only lost about 2 lbs the whole month. ever go to Weight Watchers meetings and listen to these barely overweight people scream and moan about how hard it is to lose 10 lbs? I used to (mentally) roll my eyes when I overheard such conversations. Now I totally get it. just stick to your plan. It'll be slow, but you'll get there.
