    10-6-10 128 lbs

    From the album: At Goal

  2. Hi, I was just banded 10/4/10 and I am feeling better then ever. I too lost 32 lbs, but I came to realize most of it is Fluid weight. The problem I had is I NEVER felt hungry or full before. I felt stuffed from overeating, but never hungry. Eating was a way of life and now it is changing. I am now paying more attention to the foods and how they are feeling after chewing chewing chewing. So I guess I feel the same as you, it IS part band and part the mind. After all it is a life changing system. Keep up the good work and never feel like you failed. That is other people who will look at you and say "you didn't lose that much". But we all know the healthy way to lose and keep it off is losing 1 -2 lbs a week. That is our goal. :w00t::sneaky:

    colds when sleeved?

My surgery was Sept 8th. At my 3 week post-op mark, my kids brought home head lice. I had to clean like a freak, do massive amounts of laundry and treat & check 3 heads, plus mine. My hubby just shaved his hair. Lol! I paid for it by over doing it and actually ended up taking some pain meds I had left over, plus some valium from having my hiatal hernia repair done at the same time, as well. Because I over did myself, I ended up getting sicker than a dog with a nasty head cold. I had been down for 4 days and completely exhausted. I could not function. Then my 8 year old comes home with a concussion. Oh dear God! I am at wits end. I literally cannot handle anything else right now. My husband has been a saint thru this whole thing. I ended up calling my Nut because I was having extreme pain in my left shoulder on my collar bone when I would eat. It would last for 15 minutes afterward. She told me to take a step back in my foods and go back to really soft mushies. October 7th, my birthday, would have been the day when I can eat normal foods. My nut said it is a referred pain from my hiatal hernia repair. My esophagus is enflamed, as well as my hiatal hernia repaired area. So, eating won't be as easy again until the swelling goes down and the coughing settles down too. I also have to increase my Protein in take to 100g and no less than 64 oz of Fluid everyday. My body is trying to still recover from surgery and is also really trying to fight a nasty cold. So, it doesn't leave me with much of anything to have any energy at all. I am grounded to the couch for another 2-3 days to recover. I've already been there for 4 days. I think I've grown roots already. Ha! I hate just sitting/laying down doing nothing. But, I also feel horrible. I've also been advised not to go to a funeral that is out of town for obvious reasons. Either have to take care of getting myself feeling better and stay on the down low or end up in the ER. So, I am being a couch potato and sprouting roots. Being sick with the sleeve in the 1st month of recovery makes everything about 10 time harder. Trust your doctors and keep healthy, even if you have to post pone. Hopefully, my light at the end of the tunnel will appear in the next couple days. I am so anxious to not be sick anymore and just focus on becoming the healthy me again!!!
  5. Hi all, well it has gone by super fast, but I'm one month out today. Was sleeved 9/10. My main exit incision pain is pretty much healed. That was my nagging pain, which was worst part for me. My weight loss one month post op surgery is 27lbs. Total weight loss pre op & post op together is 74lbs. Blood pressure has dropped significantly about 25 points. It's very exciting! My main problem right now is that honestly a lot of foods, almost all, just don't sound appealing to me. Many of the Proteins and meats just kinda don't really sound good and I was definitely a meat eater before surgery. Hoping it changes some moving forward still some point. My goal for month 2 is 20 lbs. CHEERS!

    2 days Post-Op

Returned home this afternoon. My story, thus far - hoping it helps... Thu-4-Aug: Checked-in to the hospital in the evening. Some bloodwork, to ensure my numbers are in control. Antibiotic allergy test. Anti-coagulant injection. Full meal at 10pm. Fri-5-Aug: Surgery day! Had to wait in pre-op for an hour (this is a HUGE hospital!), nearly toppled the OT table getting on , woke up in post-op, with a bit of gas pain, pushing up into the chest. Doc told me they had to push up my liver to pull out the stomach, so I would have bruised my lungs / diaphragm a bit. The pain medication worked quickly, and I was comfortable within 1-2 hours. Six incisions - guessing two were to "manhandle" my liver - these are the only two that are somewhat painful. Nothing to eat or drink - on IV fluids through the day, and night. Op started 10:30am; done by 1pm; moved into a room by 7pm. Quite comfortable in bed, except for the gas discomfort. Apparently, they pump you full of gas, to help with the surgery... Sat-6-Aug: Slept well through the night - comfortably. Got out of bed at 7am (two incisions are still tender!) and walked around the room. On IV fluids through the day; they did a "leak" test (fluoroscopy), and then allowed me to sip some Water, coconut water, and some sugar-free apple juice. Sun-7-Aug: Again, slept well. Discharged at noon, and back home. Have to consume at least 2 litres of Fluid - seems like a mountain. Frequent walks around the room - the tender incisions are better. All in all, a very "manageable" and not-so-unpleasant experience. So all of you sleevers-to-be - just smile! And good luck with your surgeries! Great hospital - fantastic surgeon - self-pay (no insurance coverage in India yet!) - cost me around $6000 (incl hospital stay). Connect with me, if you need a lead. Last, but not least, appreciation for my wife, who stood with me like a rock through all this, and made it all so much easier. Love you!

March Sleevers... How Are You Doing?

Heya one proud papa March sleeved here. I've had plenty of lows but cruising along slowly. No weight loss since discharge from hospital was in 10 days and lost 8 kilos. Gone down 3 dress sizes though. How u doin.
  8. It's not just you. I've had 2 very agressive fills.. I have a little over 7ccs in a 10 cc band and I still don't have restriction. I can still eat bread, no problem. Sometimes I get a tiny bit stuck if I don't chew enough, but basically I can eat a lot if I chew well. I'm getting another fill on the 27th. I think it just varies from person to person. So don't stress, just keep getting filled until you feel like it's in a good spot!
  9. I just found out last night that if you answered the qauestionerre in the beginning, that yes you were abused as a child, surgery is an automatic NO! They will make you go thru months & months of psychiatric care....so NOW I am not sur if I will get my surgery soon or not, I do NOT remember how I answered that question. BUT I have already had 10 yrs. of therapy. Don't know if that counts or not..
  10. I'm 10 weeks post op and I'm doing well except for some discomfort/pain I'm getting on my left side. It comes and goes and I can't work out what causes it. I find that I can't bend down to shave my legs for long and I have to stand back up. Some days it's fine and other days it's terrible. Yesterday was a bad day and found myself pushing and rubbing my tummy on the left side all day. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  11. And what are you doing about it? And while I'm at it...My ability to take in solids and liquids is totally different. I can drink a 12oz Protein shake in 10-15 minutes, but I'm limited to 3-4 oz of solids in any given 30+ minute period. Do liquids pass through that quickly?? Thanks! -Alan
  12. That had to be different from the allergan band.unique in every way?! But I agree why 9 and not 10
  13. I did have a situation yesterday that I want to share. Mostly to get out of my system...It happend with Mar**, a coworker, here at ***. I mentioned early in the week that I tried on a size 4 and I was able to get into it but that was all I said. Another co worker, Ci**, said it was great and she was happy for me. Well, yesterday when I was leaving it was VERY windy outside and as I was leaving Mar** said "dont blow away" and I laughed and said yeah, YOU don't blow away. She is very tiny and about 120-125 pounds. and she said snidely "well, you must weigh less than me if you fit in a size 4!" and walked into her office! I stood at the door and said I weight 141 pounds and no one said anything so I walked out. On my drive home I started thinking that wasn't a nice thing for her to say. It was as though she didn't believe that I could fit in a size 4. Then I thought I am probably 3-4 inches taller than her and I try on clothes all the time where she wears her husbands cloths and NEVER buys new clothing so how would she know what size she truly wears. The only new clothes she gets are things her husband will buy her online and probably in a size she probably wore 10 years ago! so I am mad. I am mad that my co-workers are not happy but jealous and bitter that I look better than they do and that I do want to wear nicer things and better clothing than I ever have. It's my right for doing so well. Damn it I walk six days a week and I watch what I eat and I want to lift weight to tone up and I think it's wonderful that I have accomplished what I have! so there I'm done venting and I am over it!!! FU Mar**!

    Anyone Else Sick Of Leaning?

I am hoping that after I am sleeved I can stop leaning. I have a bad back (actually having surgery on that in Decemeber) but I am hoping that also with the weight loss I can stand for more than 5-10 mins without having to lean.

    Am I normal??

What you are experiencing is very common. The band can be very fickle. Sometimes it only takes .1 ccs to make a difference. If you feel like you are eating too much I would go back in for a slight tweak. Most bandsters eat between 1/2 cup and 1 cup of food, 1 cup being too much at times. Good luck trying to find your sweet spot. It took me forever and I still struggle with it 19 months out. Julie

    Pregnant and Lap Band

With both of my pregnancies now (currently almost 10 weeks pregnant) I was only able to keep my 'green zone' fill level in until last week. My body swells when I am pregnant and I get so tight I cannot keep food down. I had half of my Fluid taken out last pregnancy and gained 60 lbs! This time around, I only got 1.5 cc taken out so I can try to maintain some of the weight loss and not gain an excessive amount. I'm using My Fitness Pal again as well to try to keep myself in check. I know there are people who can go through all or most of their pregnancy without getting an unfill and some get it all taken out right away. It really just depends on your surgeon and your body! I wanted to wait longer to get an unfill, but I just couldn't do it!
  17. My name is LaQuita and I had my first appt on Feb 22nd. Was so blessed to find out that our ins Co did not require any "hoops". No pshcy eval, no nut, no 6 Months waiting, nothing!!! I was SO excited. We have BCBS of TN BUT through my husbands Co there is a special provision for WLS so that none of this is required. Just a BMI over 40 /35 with Co mobidities. I' fit in the over 40 bmi. And proof of 5 years being "obese". I really don't like that word! I called yesterday and as of Friday the paperwork had been faxed over to BCBS for pre cert so I am waiting on them now. Aa of yesterday it wasn't showing up 'in the system, so I could not get an update from them. The surgeon won't see me and set a surgery date until he has surgical clearance from the ins. Co. So I'm waiting.......... I know after reading alot of others posts that this wait time is nothing compared to so many others. I just pray that the rest goes as smoothly. I've enjoyed reading all the tips / suggestions / and ideas u all have posted and I look forward to joining this 'club. Oh I forgot, I have had lap and surgery 2 times prior. First in 09, then I got food poisoning one time, started throwing up band prolapsed. Had to have it un-filled, then removed. Had 2 nd one put in in '10 then 8 months later I got the flu, it prolapsed too. It took several months to get it out. This was in Dec 11. I wanted the sleeve to start with in 08 but the insurance Co. Didn't approve them yet. Then in 10 when he took the first one out, he would only revise with a band not a sleeve. At the time I did not realize that other doctors would revise someone else work! You live & learn. Thankfully the Lord had lead me else where and Lord willing I will be having it within the next 4-6 weeks. Thanks again everyone for making this such an inviting & comfortable place to come! Blessings to u all!! First visit: Feb 22nd Faxed to Ins co March 2nd Waiting on pre-cert approval _CURRENT!

    Incentive clothing

I have an amazing pair of size 10 jeans from the Limited that I used to wear all the time when I was at my thinnest (before my band slipped). They're tucked away in a storage bin at the moment, but I plan on getting them out soon in preparation for my upcoming journey with the sleeve :-)

    Surgery April 2

I am having surgery on April 2nd at the Florence/Oasis of Hope, with Dr. Fernando Garcia. I am 44 and have battled with my weight all my adult life, I swear I can hear my moms voice saying you better not eat chocolate cake and chocolate milk for Breakfast it will catch up with you... all the while being a size 6.... fast forward 10 years and it caught up with me and then started multiplying. I now am battling degenerative arthritis and a torn meniscus, 7 years I have been told nothing is wrong with me all the while it getting worse and my ability to keep active dimensioning. I am now so out of shape and in so much pain that I have been taking anti depressants just because the pain finally got to my normal up beat attitude. After 8 months with this orthopedic doctor he was able to do an MRI and he was able to diagnose me!! I thought yeah now they will fix it and I can get moving and lose some weight, the next thing he said is if you want replacement surgery you will need to lose weight.... I lost MY MIND!! WHY would you not have discussed this during all the shots the draining and the pain I am enduring to now tell me that I will have to continue to fight a fight that I already struggle with when healthy and who knows how long it will take me to lose enough weight... That was last month... I have now made the decision to go forward with the weight loss surgery, I had been pre approved before but switched jobs and states before I was able to jump through all the hoops to get it done, I have had psych test and nutrition classes so I do believe that I am prepared that way. Mentally I can't WAIT!! I am getting married Sept 16, 2016 and I WILL dance at my wedding!! I have a wonderful supportive man that loves me how I am and only wants me healthy and happy. Please let me know your experience and if you have any regrets. I will be returning to work ASAP but it is an office job so from what I have read I think I will be ok...

    Cute story for your Monday!

Slow and steady does win the race if we are doing everything right it will click and it will come off. For me I have been overweight for 28 years I figure it's gonna take longer than a day to lose this excess weight so I just make the best choices I can. As far as the wise 10 yr old I guess he gets it from ur parenting skills. Kids learn what we teach them kids don't see the differences and brutally honest

    Goal weight

I wasn't really a "low" 200's, but I started my pre-op diet the week before surgery at 237 and went into surgery at 228. I hit my goal of 129 at 18 months and have maintained within a few pounds up and down for the last 10 months. I weighed 153 when I went into my first plastics surgery (which is why I remember that number specifically) which was about 2 weeks before my one year sleeve surgiversary. The sleeve works since basically you are cutting out 80% of your stomach. You can learn to eat around it though. For example, I can eat a whole box of Wheat Thins in a few hours, so whether you lose or not is largely up to the habits you keep.
  22. Those of you successfully losing, can you give me specifics of what your waking hours are in terms of food/drink/exercise? And if you give me feedback, tell me why I shouldn't believe that my NUTs tell me. LOL I have been a slow loser in this process. I am currently 204, been here about 3+ weeks. I was 296 Dec 5, and 256 on my surgery date March 11. Basically 90 pounds in less than 10 months which is awesome, but the scale just moves so slow for doing everything right. Its beginning to really upset me. I have gone from a 24 to a comfortable 18, 3x to XL/L which is awesome. My NUT at my surgeons office says don't count calories, count protein of which I am getting over 80 grams a day via chicken, greek yogurt, cottage cheese and a GNC protein powder in my water 30 mins before working out. I round that out with various fruits and veggies - lots of variety here and no starches. I get 64+ ounces of water daily. And working out - I walk 2.5-3 miles at lunch in about 45min to an hour. And I do weights every other day via machines in a gym in the evening. Sometimes, I do additional treadmill or elliptical cardio in the evening for 45 minutes to an hour. I don't track my food because its so similar everyday and when I was doing MFP I was getting about 800-900 calories a day. I am becoming OCD about what I eat. I won't dare cheat and saboage this but its becoming emotionally exhausting because I am blaming myself that I must be doing something wrong and I know stress is horrible for weight loss. I am doing exactly what I was told to do and its not working. It's $74 for 30 minutes to go back to the NUT. I can't afford that right now :-)

    Introduction Hey There

Hi, nice to meet you. You and I have a lot in common, I was diagnosed Hypothyroid 15 years ago. In 4 months I gained 60 pounds. I was put on medication and started working out and I was able to get it off. Prior to that I was at a good weight. I always wanted to get 10-15 pounds off, but I was a healthy weight. I got pregnant with my 3rd child, never gained more than 28 pounds with all three pregnancies. Well when you are pregnant and on thyroid they have to increase the dose. After the baby is born they are supposed to test you and lower you back down to pre-pregnancy. I learned this after the fact, my Doctor didn't do that. I was so sick! I felt like I was dying and they couldn't figure out why. TWO years of this!!! I changed insurance, got a new team of doctors and the Endocrinologist said I was taking more than double the meds. i was supposed to be. I blew out my thyroid completely! It put me into Hashimotoes Disease, It's when your antibodies are constantly attacking your thyroid. This has gone on for 10 years now!!! I have gained 80 pounds in 10 years. They can't regulate my meds so I have gained 3-6 pounds every 3 months off and on over the 10 years. So, I know how you feel!! It's been such a battle!! 10 months getting ready going through all the proper requirements to have the surgery. Finally!!! Sleeve is November 28th. I'm so ready!! Best of luck to you. Sorry so long but I know how hard it is...
  24. I am almost 10 months post op and I'm down 120 pounds. I started at 356 and now weigh 235... I'm currently wearing a jean size 20 and they are too big, don't need to unbutton or zip to take them on and off. So I got a pair of 18 size jeans and they don't fit... I have to lay on the he's to get them to fit... What is the problem here. Ugh

    wardrobe malfunction!

I once lost my bikini bottoms on a water tube on the Illinois River (this was of course when i was about 19 and thin). As for any malfunctions while heavy... here is my story.... laugh if you will: I had just had my son about 2 months prior. I was only 21 and my best friend suggested I finally go and "celebrate" turning 21. So I thought, well heck, I will or I will regret not doing it. So off I went to find a good outfit to wear. I wanted to look "hot" even though I was married and not trying to find anyone. Needless to say I was heavy as I had gained 65 lbs pregnant. My friend suggested a girdle. I was hesitant but who would know right? So off I went to the downtown to whooop it up for the night with my friend. The first nightclub was good but we wanted to go up the street a bit to another more happening place. So I did a quick potty trip to the bathroom and off we went to walk about 2 blocks up to the next nightclub. This "strip" of clubs is very packed on the sidewalks with people walking to/from places. Soooo, anyways... I started noticing people looking at me and even turning their heads as I walked by. Mannnnn, I must be HOTTTT! I felt GREAT! I started to "strut" I think too. I felt like the queen of the hotties! I even turned and flirted a bit. This all came to screachinggggggg halt when my friend noticed that my after going potty at the last club I had left my cute little skirt tucked up in my big ol' granny girdle and was walking down the main downtown street with my big ol' booty (properly scrunching all my fat butt in with a little coming out the sides) for the whole town to see! I was MORTIFIED! I went home crying and vowed to put my "party" days behind me. Once at home, eyes puffy, tired from sobbing, I looked in on my angel sleeping and remember thinking..... he was worth it. So there you have it... my wardrobe malfunction.
