    New here from California!

I think Kaiser has a program that once approved you go through their program. I think it is either 6 or 12 months. You have to lose 10% of your weight before they will do the surgery. Go into your doctor and find out more. That is where I would start. Good luck.

    meat eaters

meats are hard to digest after surgery but they are also very important for integrating Protein into meals. I am 19 months post op on RNY and I currently get about 60 grams of protein a day from my meals and that is because I use meats. I found that meats go down easy in chili and Soups. So I home make soups that have about twice the content of meats than normal store bought soups. chicken and turkey are difficult. They must be cooked for a long time in Water to soften them to the point that they readily break apart using a fork. Generally I place them in a pot of water and add a bouillon cube and boil for an hour.

The pirate and me down by 40 since surgery 50 since pre diet..

You look SO good! I just got my band 7/2/10 and I can't wait to begin seeing the changes.
  5. Here's a strange request - my boss wants me to find a live play for him and his dgtr to attend between June 25-June 28 (she is pre teen). I've found several local theatres including the Children's theatre (but they are off season)- does anyone have a local paper or know of any plays during that time. Of course I need it today and I"m researching like mad, but they also have 10 other activities I'm looking for plus the hotel, well, you get it...so any help from my fellow bandster pals is MUCH APPRECIATED. THANKS! MARY

    FKN TIRED OF STALLS!!

Im a year and a half out from my surgery and OMG it gets so so hard sometimes. Covid hasn't helped things either since I've been stuck at home around food and our LOVE-HATE relationship 24/7!! Cravings? CHECK! Stress? CHECK! Anxiety? CHECK! Unhealthy food (at least for me) stocked up?? DOUBLE CHECK! I just ordered more protein shakes/snacks to help alleviate some of this because i don't want to punish my husband or kids by taking away their treats. I know i haven't been making smart food choices lately so im just ashamed more than i can even describe. I was going to therapy but since the pandemic began its Tela-Health video appointments and the office is INSANELY backed up.. i refuse to see another dr because of the distance plus i don't like having to explain so many times what my issues are.. I just wanted to vent to my Surgery Siblings because it feels like everyone around me doesn't understand why it is so hard, stressful, and heartbreaking to be stuck around food all the time because EVERYONE in my family is skinny and don't gain weight at all. I look at a candy bar and gain 10 lbs lmao Thanks for letting me vent!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

what to bring to the hotel?

Hi Andrea, You will need your bullet as you will be staying until the forth of August I believe you said. Dr. Cobourn's patients start having Optifast again. I started having mine on friday after having surgery on wednesday. The day of surgery was Water only then thursday clear, low fat low carb low calorie liquids. Then Friday opti-fast can be added in. One package for me spilt into three servings for the day. That lasts 7-10 days. Yours might be slightly different based on what Dr. C thinks is best. Hope that helps with your question. I also took both gas x strips and chewable tablets. Also found children's liquid tylenol the 2-12 year old one worked well for me for pain. Also they do make a gravol suppository which might be easy to take then the liquid if you are having troubles, but I don't think you will, I sure didn't and that was a fear of mine. Has your package arrived from the clinic yet?

    Day 10 Pre-op Diet

Yesterday I was so not interested in my shakes. I only drank half for breakfast and half for lunch. Needless to say I was starving yesterday afternoon. I cooked a whole chicken in the crockpot all day and it was calling my name when I got home. LOL Well I had 6oz of breast meat and 1 cup of chicken stuffing. It was pretty filling. Last night I was feeling very empty so I had a small bowl of mini wheats and 2% milk. I went a little over my calories. But my carbs were high becasue of the stuffing. I am struggling so much with this diet. I am going to weight in agian today so hopefully I am still on track to losing weight. I have lost about 10 pounds so I still have 10 pounds to go till surgery and I have 2 weeks so I think It is very doable. I am trying to keep strong.
  9. Hi FXA, I'm new to this site too. Congrats on your decision:thumbup:!! I started last Aug 09. I think you really need the time to get your head in the right place. My surgery date is 07/07/10:ohmy:!! I'm excited and can't wait. When is your date? I've already been encouraged by so many nice people:smile2:. Best of luck and much success!! Carol D' (just outside of Boston, MA) Where in US are you from?
  10. You can refocus- especially since you are aware of the things that are holding you back. I am almost 10 months post op too and I think this is the time it can get really hard. Our stomachs are healed and can hold more and for some the appetite comes back (happened to me). However, we can do this!! I am upping my exercise. I just brought a fitbit to encourage me. I am also cutting my carbs way back. Try logging your food again and see if that helps. Also, being this close to goal it becomes a little harder to lose those last few pesky pounds!! You got this!! Good luck

    Is Vegan life so awful

Well I do eat dairy products. A lot of vegans do drink milk and eat eggs and fish. I just choose not to eat fish. 2 (15-ounce) can no-salt-added black Beans, rinsed and drained 1 egg 1/2 yellow onion, chopped 1 cup whole wheat bread crumbs or I use Italian style bread crumbs. 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1 teaspoon dried basil 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or granules Salt and pepper to taste Hot sauce to taste 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive or canola oil 1 teaspoon of seasoning salt 1 half green pepper chopped Put beans in a large bowl and mash well with a fork. Add egg, yellow onion, bread crumbs, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, pepper and hot sauce. Mix well to combine then shape into 6 patties. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Arrange patties in a single layer (working in batches, if needed) and cook, flipping once, until golden brown on both sides and cooked through, about 10 minutes total. Transfer to buns, top with lettuce, tomatoes and red onions and serve. Nutritional Info: Per Serving:290 calories (70 from fat), 7g total fat, 1g saturated fat, 35mg cholesterol, 450mg sodium, 47g carbohydrate (10g dietary Fiber, 7g sugar), 12g Protein You have to remember the carbs will be high because they are beans but these are the good carbs.

    Hungry or not?

As for me, I feel most of my hunger is in my head.....if I am bored, or everyone else is eating, for some reason I feel like I should be too....weird right? Everyone is different.. I just had a fill to 4cc on Monday and it doesn't feel any different. But I will give it a few weeks before I decide if I need something else...my doc did say where I have had 3 fills some people with the band the same length as me have had up to 10. So I think there is a lot of fine tuning involved. I would definitely get in with your doc and let them know how hungry you are, how much you can eat, and how long you can go in between meals. Keep us posted!
  15. I've been looking into lap band for a long time and finally decided to do it. It's all been a great idea theoretically, but now..it's going to happen!!! What am I doing?? I've had 2 laparoscopies for endometriosis, so the surgery part doesn't scare me. I was on Optifast for twelve weeks, so the liquid diet doesn't scare me. BUT, what if I can't fix the mental part fo me that can't figure out how to eat right? What if I can't fix the behaviors that got me here is the first place? Obviously, I couldn't fix them before or I wouldn't be logged on here now. I'm hoping it's normal to freak out like this a little. My pre-op visit is 3/19 and my surgery date is 4/3 with Dr.Greg Schroder in Richmond, VA. Let me know if you have any hints on how to fix my thinking!

    Grapefruit Diet

Today is my 4th day on the grapefruit juice diet...Just drinking 8 ounces of grapefruit juice 30 minutes before each meal...I cant really tell any difference in my weight at all from my scale...But of course the official weigh in will be on Wend when I get back to work...But as of right now drinking the grapefruit juice just adds extra calories to my diet that I dont really want to add...I did finally get my little computer thing working on my gazelle and found out that I have been going about 1.25 miles a day in my 30 minute workout 6 days a week which adds up to 7.5 miles a week...which I guess isnt that bad but I am glad to finally be able to add it all up and figure out what I am actually doing...I would like to get it up to about 10 miles a week if I can...I ought to be able to do that by just adding about 5-10 minutes a day here and there...Today I also found some lipton green tea with honey and lemon to go with 0 calories and added antioxidants...Anything to help me along will be good...By wend if I dont see a conderable difference from the week I may give up on the grapefruit juice cuz all it does is burn my tummy....We will see how it goes in the long run!!!

    Dr. Aceves

My surgery was also originally scheduled on July 19, with an Aetna-approved surgeon here in California. But he had little-to-no experience with the sleeve, didn't offer much in the way of bedside manner, had a sort-of factory-line approach to his practice, doesn't keep patients in the hospital very long, and uses a 60 bougie to boot! In the meantime, I too have been VERY impressed with what I've read and heard about Dr. Aceves. So I've changed direction - canceled the surgery (even though it would have been covered by insurance) and doing the self-pay thing with Aceves in Mexicali on Aug. 9. My only concerns are around the rare event I end up with a post-surgery complication, even weeks or months down the line, and not having my surgeon easily available for a consult. I hear Aceves and his staff are very responsive to calls & emails, though, and I do plan to loop my PCP in (seeing her on Monday), to enlist her support in case I need her to admit me to the hospital later. Better to have a plan and not need it, than the other way around, but Dr. Aceves has such a good reputation and great stats, that I expect things to go really well. The main thing, though, is to make the right decision FOR YOU, that you feel comfortable with, and that satisfies your most important criteria. Sometimes I think my decision doesn't make sense - it certainly doesn't from a financial standpoint - but it's the right one for me.

    What a weekend!!!

Hey all, i had my final 2 summer bbq's this weekend and boy was it big fun. party 1 - a housewarming - scooped my food out of pans with tablespoon. literally had a spoonful of food! -greens, chicken leg and sweet potatoes - it took me two sittings to finish this little bit of food. my children are amazed at how little i eat now. they keep offering me food but my little son will say "are you allowed to have this?" LOL:wink:- i had just a little of everything at this party and i was just fine - i had a fellow bandster there with me but i think she is band abuser. her plate was full of food... i tried to discuss eating with her but she was also the hostess - so she was busy. Party 2 - more of the same - very small portions - my son asked me if i wanted to taste a piece of cake he had " oh wait momma, can you have cake?" LOL:lol: - i did make one bad move though - i was talking to my daughter and stuck a piece of chicken in my mouth and forgot to chew! it was stuck, stuck, stuck - i bee lined to the bathroom and tried to bring it up and out but i had to let it sit and it went down - it hurt like HELL though. :tt1: (hence all of the smiley emotions) ~~ i went out looking at gyms on friday - my hubby agreed to go with me since we found a gym that is $32 per month for a couple. i will call the dr's office today to see when i can start working out. i have been walking around alot because it is homecoming shopping season... my 16yr old is mall walking me to death! Back to work this week though - i sure enjoyed staying home these last 3 weeks. i haven't focused too much on my weight - although i can say i am teetering under 260 right now but not to be excited because i know the best is yet to come. first fill is 10/07 - i am not eating alot now - i think it is my mind that is scared of overeating. i also start to get a sensation in my left shoulder when i think i have eaten too much... does anyone else experience this? thats all for now! have a great week everyone.

I'm Just Getting To Know Me!(long)

Niterun - Thanks for the post. You should be proud of yourself! I am scheduled for surgery March 10 and I have to admit, since it was scheduled a week ago - it's definitely last supper syndrome. Not that I'm eating everything I think I can't have after surgery, I'm just overeating, about 1800 cal a day. I know it could be worse, but I set out every day intending to stick to 1200 calories - was doing well and down 10 pounds until my surgery was scheduled - talk about crazy! I'm up about 3 pounds from my doctor appointment a month ago. I might try what you are doing. It may help me get in the mindset that surgery really is right around the corner. I just started a routine exercise program - gave up the gym - it just wasn't for me. I enjoy walking, have some exercise videos, etc. Im doing okay on my Water and don't have caffeine or soda, but I really need to practice chewing like crazy. That's something I really have to work hard at remembering to do. I've wolfed my food my whole life. Again, thanks for the inspiration and congratulations!!! Please keep me posted on how you are doing. Send me a message anytime.

    Deciding on Goal Weight

Hi Bookleen, I'm in a similar situation as you. My BMI is 27.1, and I've hardly lost any weight in the last 4 months. I too discussed w my surgeon and he said the same as Coops just said above, it's not about BMI it's where you feel comfortable. I still want to lose around 10 lbs but I know I have to start working at it again, at the moemnt I eat and drink anything I want, I so excercise quite a lot, I think thats the only reason I haven't put on any weight. I could've written that post myself you know, I need to tidy up my act too and strat losing again before my 1 year anniversary. How far out are you exactly? Good luck, to all of us
  23. Hey everyone.....well here's the dilemma. I got my first fill yesterday because I was feeling like I could eat way more than I should! So I thought, I'll get a fill and then I'll feel some restriction and won't be able to get in as much. Not the case today. I went out to lunch with my husband and ate a good sized piece of salmon (maybe 5 oz) along with about 1/2 a cup of steamed broccoli and a small portion (maybe like 10) sweet potato fries. And I stopped myself because I figured I was eating way too much. I wasn't full at all. Now I'm feeling really guilty and wondering how I am supposed to know how much to eat?? :sneaky: I'm just not sure??
