    End goal weight

I picked a weight I got to over 10 years ago when I felt and looked really good. I'll be working towards that but not be too disappointed if my new set weight is above that. Hard to say this far out and honestly I licked my finger and held it up in the wind if I'm honest. I'll take anything lower than the BMI of over 40 where I started out - that's a win in my book! Good luck all on reaching your goal!
  3. I hit a stall at day 10 when I added purée foods I’m 4 weeks 2 days out my stall finally broke over the past weekend. It’s normal you’re lucky you made it that far out without a stall! Your doing great!

    Exercise videos for 60 +

There are TONS of good indoor exercise videos for free on YouTube. Just type in "Indoor exercises for seniors" or something similar. I did a 10-minute one on there last night for using dumbbells and toning my arms. I also belong to AARP and they have tons of 2-10 minute exercise videos for seniors, and depending on if you're on Medicare and have Silver Sneakers, Silver Sneakers has online free at-home fitness videos as well. I especially like Denise Austin.

    Life Abroad with VSG

Recipe ideas: Pinterest or Skinnytaste Workout Ideas: YouTube has great short 10 minute low impact workouts that you can do after VSG. You can do anything, like walking in place, short walks, etc. immediately and I highly recommend walking immediately after surgery, but no weight lifting for 4 weeks, nothing more than 10 lbs I think. Foods: Without nutritional labels to see if it's sugar-free or not, that's a tough one. Obviously meats are high protein which is good. Cheeses have protein. Can't go wrong with meat and cheese. You already know about fresh veggies and fruits. No, I'm lost without my food labels. Sorry.
  6. Hi everyone! Starting to lose motivation! Ive been sick on/off since just after Christmas. Its made my new job be put off as they are requiring me to have no symptoms for 48 hours before my start date. Ill go one day perfectly fine, the next feeling like death. Its been like that for almost a month. Ive done so many PCR tests in the last couple weeks and theyve all been negative for covid! Because with the increased covid cases here in Sydney i havent wanted to put my son or I at risk of getting it. My sons unvaccinated and although i am now boosted too, i have asthma and being so soon after surgery i wanted to minimise risk. Even put all the plans i had for school holidays off because of the rising cases. But then on Monday my son got his test back that hes positive for covid, he was really sick over the weekend. He caught it off his cousin who had been around one of her fathers family's kids who had covid and didnt let any of my family know about it until my niece tested positive and my sister let her husbands side know!!😡 Now im having symptoms again and going for yet another PCR tomorrow. Feeling like the new job will just find someone else at this point! Almost a month later from when i was supposed to start and i need no end to this. I cant even see my GP. Its just phone appointments and each time i have an appointment they just tell me to go for another PCR because its been a few days since the last one and i could have covid now. Its driving me nuts. I know this time i do a test its likely i will be positive because my son is and i cant exactly isolate him to one room but this whole experience the last month has really made me lost motivation. If im positive ill need to isolate for another 7 days from test result so potentially another 10+ days in isolation. Im now 8 weeks post op and wanted to be getting out and regularly exercising while the summer lasts but cant now because were in isolation! And because im a single mum this whole experience has been very isolating, because my family are also in isolation, i dont really have any friends to speak to either😣 Tips on keeping motivated? Any ideas for what i can do while stuck in isolation? All we seem to be doing is playing video/board games and cleaning, its getting boring! How to cope with isolation!
  7. I’m twenty days “new” today. I had complications (there were two hours of removing former surgical adhesions and scar tissue). I was in the hospital for 10 days. I think they just liked me being there. I’m a super optimist so I tried to make light of things like horrible diarrhea. I was treated so well the whole time. I’m still nauseous and in pain but like my mom said.. “this too shall pass”. On the happy side.. I’ve lost 23 pounds. I have no idea about how many inches. I think I look the same. I think it’s all lost in my face. 😀😀

    Giving Dumbbells a Try

These dumbbells were delivered to me yesterday that I had ordered on Wal-Mart.com. I wasn't expecting them until tomorrow. I'm looking forward to incorporating these into my fitness routine. I do 90 minutes a day of cardio. But sometimes at home in the afternoon I do more cardio and I've been using soup cans to add resistance. Now I have 3 lb, 5 lb and 8 lb weights to use. I found some great arm toning 10-minute workouts on YouTube. Naturally I can do some heavier lifting and use the strength training machines at the gym, but these small light dumbbells are just for home incidental use when I have a few extra minutes and some extra energy to enhance my gym workout. While I would actually like to add some arm muscle, I guess I'd be happy to just tone what I already have.
  9. I had buyer remorse but it does get easier. Gatorade sugar free was my savior. I’d mix it 1/2 and 1-2 with Water. You’d be surprised how fast you will be able to drink more. The first few days are rough and now I’m 4 weeks out I’m eating real food though soft and I feel human again. My little tummy is pretty happy most of the time now it just really hates all Beans in any form or variety. I still sip water and let me tell you I didn’t o ce just not thinking and it hurt like hell for a good 10 minutes - not worth it trust me. Take it easy I named my tummy little turd because it has a mind of its own. Kinda helped honestly I mean we go through the pain of having a baby and this baby is so worth it and needs taken care of with this we get nothing. So now I have my little turd who gets taken care of like a newborn (except the name of course.) and when it acts up it’s like a new baby needing something - a drink or a burp. I want to keep it happy and healthy so slow she goes lol Hang in there you’ve got this and watching the weight come down will out the biggest smile on your face - trust me you will be just fine

I've regained the weight I lost

I agree with @GradyCat. You probably have not stretched your stomach out. Those calorie calculators are pretty much fiction. So much depends on your height, age, gender, activity level, weight, etc. The first thing to do is track EVERYTHING you eat and drink, to see where you are. Talk to your nutritionist/dietician. Don't be embarrassed; this is incredibly common especially during COVID. They have seen this before, I guarantee it. Talk to them about how many calories you need to lose weight and what your macros should be. I was told not to do a keto diet as the fat is too high. I currently try to reduce the amount of carbs I eat and make the carbs I do it complex carbs or fruit/veggies. For me, it's still hard to get much carbs in since I'm still trying to get enough protein at 4 months out. Don't try to be perfect: aim for 80% of your food being "healthy" with 20% "fun", or maybe 90-10 if that feels better. If you try to be 100% perfect, you will set yourself up for failure. Good luck and keep us posted!
  12. I'm finally mustering up the guts to ask for help. I am 5' 2" and I had gastric sleeve at 205 lbs. My struggle with weight has been life-long. I dropped down to 155 and I was actually quite happy there, as I was down to a size 10. I consumed about 900 cal/day at that point. Everything went to hell in a handbasket when COVID hit. I truly do not mean to make excuses, because there are none, but there were situational issues. My husband was hit severely early on in the pandemic, the kids were doing remote schooling, I was out of a job, I wasn't exercising and I chose to deal with all of this by getting diet sloppy. And the weight has just been creeping up. I am now at 190 lbs. What's even worse, is that according to the 13cal/pound calculation, I would need to eat 2470 calories per day in order to maintain a weight of 190lbs. I don't come close to that. I average 1600, and usually not even that much. My metabolism has always been a problem, which I suspect lots of people can identify with. I have tried Keto and Atkins on and off, but they are not sustainable for me. I read up on Pouch Reset, but then also read about the weight regain. I'm considering intermittent fasting, or simply using my Baritastic app and dropping it to 900 cals. I even looked into a revision, but that wouldn't solve the core issues, which I can't even identify at this point. I'm so ashamed by this. I've made a mess of this but at the same time, I'm committed to fixing this problem. Help? Thank you...
  13. Surgery 12/10. Stalled right now too.
  14. It’s really up to you & what you’re able to cope with. Some say they can go back to drinking several mouthfuls at a time others not. I’m a not - two decent swallows & that’s still it for me but I can take another drink a couple of minutes later. Plus I don’t need to wait 30mins before & after eating - 10 is usually enough. I’d still go slowly to begin while your tummy is still healing - don’t want to strain all those staples & sutures holding it together. Once you’re on solid food, try slowly increasing your intake. Take your time & listen to your body. Actually that’s the best advcice for eating too. Congrats on your surgery.

    Post Op Rants!!

Yes, frustrating! I have been at more or less the same weight for two months, wondering if this is the end of the line and I am meant to be this weight. (Which is within what my surgeon calls successful, just thought I’d be about 10 pounds less) What is weird, is that sometimes after I have eaten badly, such as after New Year’s, I lose 2 pounds. GL!
  16. I went into a stall and really thought it wasn’t going to work for me. I totally understand how you feel. Mine started around day 10-11 and I saw my Nutritionist last week. She cleared me to start eating soft foods which I did the past 2 days and today I finally started loosing again! So have patience- which is easier said then done I know. I started at 227 and today I am 197.7. VSG 12/22/2021. Be patient with yourself, follow your program, see your Nutritionist if you can mine helped me not just food wise but mentally and emotionally to know I was on the right track. Also I am walking 3 miles a day so walk as much as you can it didn’t help me in the stall but it lifts my spirits and better than sitting on the couch! Also I can’t go outside due to weather so this is all in the house and not all at once
  17. Hey please know you got this. I have been beating myself up for needing a revision. Had leave to bypass may 19. I am outpacing my first weight loss by a lot. I’m wiser now. Every single day is a choice and you will be successful if you make good choices more days than not.
  18. I had a sleeve to bypass revision 7 weeks ago. I can only eat about 1 oz of food at a time. I've tried three different protein shakes, they all literally make me sick after about 1/4 of the shake. I can feel it churning and gurgling in my chest. I can't get my protein in with just food. I am not getting all my supplements taken, it's like eating a meal taking the big calcium pills. I really am frustrated. I need to weigh or measure everything I put in my mouth, which is fine. I was severely dehydrated last weekend. I should have gone to the ER but the wait time is up to 10 hours. I knew I wasn't drinking enough. I didn't know how to prioritize supplements, protein and drinking. My skin was very dry, my lips stayed chapped for two weeks prior to the sudden onset of uncontrollable vomiting and an instant pounding headache. Not a migraine but a headache that I couldn't get rid of. That was Saturday a week ago. I talked to my surgeon in Dallas Sunday. He wasn't to make sure my abdomen wasn't hurting. He said if I started running a fever 100 or above get to the ER. I'm 2.5 hours away from him. I started doing better, I was drinking Pedialyte mixed with no sugar added grape juice like crazy. I ended up drinking 2.5 bottles, 33.8 oz each, and grape juice and two cups of lactose free milk every day. I'm back to eating again, trying to. I've thrown up twice today, I woke up at 4:30 AM yesterday and threw up. I haven't had nearly enough to drink, eat and I've taken 1/3 of the calcium I should be taking. Any advice at all? Thank you.
  19. My surgery was Jan 10
  20. Hi everyone! I am struggling with my weight right now. My surgery weight was on 4/19/21 I was at 396lbs and now its January 16th and I'm at 309lbs. I am a slow loser haha I feel like I should have lost more weight by now. Before surgery though I actually lost seventy pounds to get approved so my biggest weight December 2020 was 470lbs. I know I have come a long way and I am proud of myself but since October ish, I haven't really lost weight. I been at 309lbs for the past two and a half months and I am starting to not feel as motivated. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions to help me get back to losing weight? I have a long way to go and I really want to get in the 200s already.

    Post Op Rants!!

I lost 10 pounds week one then only one pound since and I’ll be 4 weeks out this coming Tuesday. I’ve lost 29 pounds total from liquid to now. My Nutritionist told me I need to push my calories to 1200 a day to start loosing again. I’m walking 3 miles a day now so I’m super frustrated l. I was vegan preop and I was loosing way more than this and I’ve questioned if this was smart or not. My husband, surgeon and Nutritionist keep telling me to be patient I’ll loose eventually… but when? We shalll see I suppose I only had 100 to loose so now I have around 70 it is encouraging to see you’ve lost 107

    VSG

Mine was 10 days puréed until 4 months post op which is this coming Tuesday and then soft for another month so everyone is different just follow what you were told My nutritionist said if your tummy doesn’t like the puréed go back to liquid for a few days try again everyone heals differently
  23. Thanks all for your replies. Good to know you lost weight after surgery. And also lost a lot a lot prior to the operation! I can’t get anything off, no matter what I do! At the highest I managed 10 pounds with a not so healthy diet. Summermoose; I’m jealous and impressed you managed to get off Paxil. I’ve tried tapering down real slow with liquids but it was terrible. Never made it to 0… Even during switching ssri s I felt the effects of getting off Paxil (I’m on them a long time, 25 years) Gradycat: unfortunately people can gain a lot more than 10 ponds, I’m no exception! It’s part of the cause of obesity in 15 % it slows down your metabolism or causes cravings. I’m my case (and with many others) I don’t even have cravings and if anything, i only eat healthier en exercise more! And it’s not coming off, been trying everything for the last 7 years ! Very frustrating!
  24. Could anyone give me any insight on how this will work? The differences between the sleeve recovery verses the revision recovery? I'm not entirely sure if I'll be getting one but at this point my gut is saying that it's going to be necessary. I can't eat or drink anything. Throwing up, dry heaving, Still have stomach pain, they think it's all from gastritis. I feel like i'm starving to death at this point. My diet is ice cubes (barely). I can barely walk from malnutrition. I just turned 19 and I'm in college so I also don't know how much it would affect my classes. I'm looking for things that are obvious about the recovery and things that aren't obvious that I might not think of. And if anyone else has gone through this. When I got the sleeve I was more able to research things and literally memorize everything but I'm so messed up I really need someone to just help me figure it out kinda.
