  1. Hi I had my op 3 weeks ago. I lost 5kg in my pre op so was over the moon and in the first week of the op lost another 6kg, but for the last 10 days the weight has fluctuated up and down by .5kg. I am following everything. Is this normal? Am i expecting too much? It feels a bit disheartening
  2. My Dr office called saying that my surgeon has some concerns with my Eco test I did back in June, so he recommends a cardiologist to send a letter of consent. So on Friday 7/18 I got in touch with my cardiologist hoping to have some kind of answer on Monday 7/21 only to find out that he is on vacation until Monday 7/28. Here I was worried about my EGD and getting a biopsy on 7/10, but now I am waiting clearance/consent. The only good news I received was, once they get the letter of consent, I will have a surgery date within 5 days. Is there anyone out there who ever needed a letter of consent, and if so, what was your experience?

    Did It Work?

This post is common - I have no idea how you can eat a 14 oz steak after this surgery I am lucky if i can eat 4oz. You are at a crossroads, same position most of us hit. You are head hungry not really hungry, sorry seems brutal but once the shock and awe was over you are losing the battle in your head not your stomach. My view is you need a nutritionist or a deep study into nutrition. The surgery is a tool it shrunk your stomach by 85% and removed the nerves that made you feel hungry. Couple of things you did not mention you should be filling up on Protein Shakes Loaded with vitamins and supplements. This will make you feel incredible without calories. I am out about 120 days and there is not a chance in hell i would try and eat steak or any solid hard food. I suggest you set a daily routine - If you read around here there are a ton of people who have posted there Routine. here is mine set by a Paid Nutritionist 1. Breakfast - 10 oz protien shake 30g protien 20 Calories, Two heaping Yogurt spoon fulls Vitamin Powder and Supplement Powder. I also add a few pieces of fruit for taste - 8 blueberrys or 3 cut peaches or a few strawberrys- You drink this over 30 min and no way you are hungry! 2. 10:00 Am - A Protien Bar - High end good quaility Bar - If i need it usually dont 3. Lunch - This is a tough one for me due to work so usually - Handful of peanuts, granola or maybe some chuncked fish or turkey 4. 2:00 Here comes another Protien shake - Usually add Peanut butter or some other funky Yogurt etc 5. 5:30 By dinner i am whipped so really have no desire to eat, usually skip about half the time - Scallops, Shrimp, Fish or a simple protein, Side is usually some small veggie 6. 40oz water a day - I CAN SAY I HATE WATER BUT IT IS A KEY TO FLUSHING OUT AND KEEPING THE KETOSIS GOING. i have this down where i can adjust my loss from .05 pounds per day up to 3/4 a day - I am also very active so that really helps me out. Summary - You have completed step one the surgery - Step two is the diet and intake - The mind is brutal on this surgery and head games to me are harder then the dang surgery to me - You said size i have gone from a size 50 pants to 42 currently and this is the reward! We all were food addicted no doubt - THe US is freakin disgusting with how we eat, Huge portions, all processed and filled with sugar. Good luck and you will get it - I have stalled a few times due to Vodka and M and M's so its not like your alone

    Back to Basics

Okay, so now my focus is back on my weight loss, full throttle. I've been losing consistently, but I think I can do better. 10 pounds a month is okay, but I'd like to jump start it. I know what I need to do. Some days I am the paragon of virtue--Lots of protein, low carbs, low fat. I get off the wagon most on days when i don't work. Structure seems to work well for me. I am so good on work days. Now it's just a matter of getting used to eating like that every day. My short term goal is to eat healthy with no fatty food etc for 6 days out of the week. I'm already doing great on my portion sizes--which in the past were my biggest problem. I've been good with the gym, but I'm going to do better. I can step it up a notch. My goal is to lose 15 pounds this month. Wish me luck! oh and by the way, the guy I was dating sent me an email stating he was confused and not sure what he wanted. I replied that I think it would be better if we were just friends. He has been calling and emailing me like mad ever since saying he wants to see me but I haven't replied. Why is it that guys only want you when you don't want them? Sheesh, I'm not losing any sleep over this one...
  6. I too have BCBS and my file was submitted on 8/5/11 and I called on 8/10 no update, called again on 8/11 no update but then on 8/12/11 there was an update--more information needed (which actually was in the file). I faxed the additional info and my surgeon's office also faxed the additional info so now I am in the waiting game again. I called today for an update nothing, but I will be calling again tomorrow. Good luck for a speedy approval!

    Pain Left Side Under Rib

I am almost 5 weeks out now and didn't start to get the discomfort under my ribcage until around the 2-3 week mark when I was back to my normal routine. My doc said it was normal and it really only lasted about 10 days. He said that if I felt ok in the morning when I woke up and I got sore as the day progressed that it was just me working the muscles in the area he had to muck around in to get to the stomach and it should clear up in a few days. If it is really bad though, I would say that you need to call your surgeon just to make sure everything is normal.

    Newly Sleeved

I am also newly sleeved (4/4). I have been doing a lot of smoothies that my nutritionist recommended. I seem to like the yogurt smoothies the best. The pre-mixed protein shakes I lived on during pre-op phase sound terrible to me now. For smoothie: Any container Greek 100 yogurt (sugar under 10) 1/2 c milk 1 scoop unflavored protein powder 1/4 c dry milk Half banana (or other fruit) It takes me half the day to get it down, but it tastes good. There are a few others I can share if you're interested, or Pinterest seems to have a lot of good ideas as well. Good Luck!
  9. I asked here who has had their band for a long time, this board was started a few years ago, so there are some bands here that were placed 3 - 4 years ago. I still want to know of any cases where the band has been in place for 10 years +. I want to know about long term weight maintenance and long term effects of having the band in place. I am going to go google now, if anybody has any info I'd really appreciate it. Thanks all..... You are all a great support here....
  10. Rev Me Up!

    What's going on?

The dreaded 3-5 week stall strikes again! There are tons of posts about it if you look back through the threads. Best thing to do is focus on hydration, Protein, and healing. Put the scale away for at least 10 days and you should have a little bit of a loss in a couple of weeks. Don't drive yourself crazy by weighing everyday. Good luck!!

Sleeve 3 Day Post Op so far so good!

Congrats and welcome! Protein protein protein! Your new "best friend"! Get in as much as you can, and then some more! Same with liquid, popsicles, whatever you can, you need it. As far as the move goes, be careful! You don't want to end up back in the hospital, and lifting, especially heavy things can put you back there. You have had major surgery, so you will be tired. Give yourself time to heal, and if you're like me and had hiatal surgery at the same time as your sleeve, you shouldn't be doing anything that may harm you. I was told (and it may be just me) not to lift anything over 10 pounds for at least a year, to allow everything to heal properly. If you need a bariatric pal, let me know. Good luck to you!
  12. Surgery scheduled for 1/19. Had pre-op yesterday and ready to go.
  13. Hey so I'm new here. I have a question about insurance coverage. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas. I'm 19 years old, 5'9'' and 340 pounds. Pretty healthy. My BMI obviously higher than 40. Can anyone tell me what they think my chances are of getting the lapband covered by my insurance? Thanks!
  14. After procrastinating for 6 weeks, I've finally established a routine that I think I can stick with. The coach at my school told me I should see results with it. I hope he knows what he's talking about. I use the weight machines in the school gym for 15 minutes during my free period. I hope to get up to 30, but I'm nowhere near strong enough yet. At home, I ride my recumbent bike for 20-30 minutes After that, I do a short kettlebell workout for 5-10 minutes.
  15. ahhh so excited I finally hit ONDERLAND today after not seein it for 10 years. I weighed in this morning at 199.3! SEE YA LATER 200s!!!!!

    help me calm my nerves

Ask your surgeon if he/she has a requirement for your Hgb A1c. I always have had a problem with high fasting blood sugars. Even back to when I only had gestational diabetes with both of my pregnancies that resolved after delivery. No matter how I adjusted my evening insulin that I took before dinner, it would be 170-180 or so in the morning, yet I would often have dramatic lows during the night. I started a low carb, high Protein diet (like Adkins or South Beach) the day I saw my surgeon for my first consult. My sugars were a bit better, but not by much, & probably more because I lost about 20 pounds in the first 6 weeks on that diet. Two months later I was so frustrated I went online & did a lot of research about the onset & peak timings of regular & NPH insulins. I had learned that in nursing school, but that was so many years ago & I didn't work with adults with diabetes to keep my knowledge fresh. I've never liked "micro-managing" my insulin but I had to do something. Because I am a nurse my PCP has always allowed me to manage my insulin with certain guidelines & I did check with his office about the changes I made. I started with checking my blood sugar 4-5 times a day & taking my NPH insulin 3 times a day, rather than twice - in the morning before Breakfast, at bedtime & halfway in between in the mid-afternoon - dividing the day total into 3. Then took regular insulin before each meal & snack. I was able to reduce the total insulin dramatically within a few days as my sugars were so much better. I used to take 20 units of regular before breakfast & before dinner & 35 of NPH before breakfast & 40 of NPH before dinner. Two months later, just before surgery, I was down to 20 units of NPH morning & mid-afternoon & 10 units before bed. I was taking 5-10 units of regular before eating, depending on my blood sugars. In the hospital my Hgb A1c was down to 5.9 from 7.3 that it was 3 months earlier.

1/2 way there and getting scared

They can remove the excess abdominal skin without doing a full Tummy Tuck, it is called something like a paniculectomy. The difference is, there is no muscle repair or tightening, and often no liposuction to contour the new shape. I am about 5 1/2 weeks out from a full Tummy Tuck, and it was not something I needed great help with. Never anyone to wipe my backside!! The incision is healed now, and I can remove my compression this coming Tuesday----yay!!!! The PS removed 12 pounds of skin and flab. I began my lap band journey at 289 pounds in a size 22/24. When I went to have my TT I was 184 pounds and in a size 14. I am now 175 pounds and in a size 8-10 misses or a juniors 11. I am 5'9" tall----so it is stretched out a bit--but I have my life back!!!!! If you get a chance to get the skin removed, or a TT---or whatever surgery you think will improve your ability to move or to feel better about yourself---DO IT!!! As for insurance paying. It has to be proved to be a medical necessity. If you get rashes or skin breakdowns, now is the time to see the Dr. for them and have them documented. If the excess weight from overly large breasts is causing back problems, now is the time to have it medically documented. Waiting til the time for PS is not going to be enough. They want proof you have tried other things, or that it is an ongoing problem. Good Luck to all of you. You will learn to love your new selves when the realities of what you are now able to do hits you. I feel like I may be pushing 50---but I feel better than I did at 30-----and a helluva lot more capable of actually doing it! Kat

    Also A Slow Loser...

Had surgery 8/10,only list 35lbs. Went for an adjusting Tuesday, had not been since 3/11,very discouraged. Tryin to start with a new slate. My downfall is I hate all protein shakes, that either make me gag or throw up. Major frustratated. I'm now current first day of mushy food, for bfst I had a hard boiled egg ,*shrugs*,so far that's all until lunch and I have tuna fish
  22. I had a laproscopic hysterectomy 10 days ago. I have done remarkably well with that surgery. I overdid it a few days ago and started cramping so I took one of my pain pills (Lortab 7.5 mg). Well, it made me nauseous and I vomited yesterday morning. Felt bad the whole rest of the day and then after dinner last night, I noticed that I had heartburn and reflux. Took a Pepcid with no relief and took some Tums which helped a small amount. Was fine all day today and then got heartburn and reflux after dinner again tonight. I have an appointment with my band doctor on the 18th of this month. I have 7.5 cc in a 10 cc band and think I'm right where I need to be. I've lost 64 pounds since surgery on June 4, 2010. I have only vomited 2-3 times since being banded so of course I am worried about my band. Just need to get some reassurance from you fine folks. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Sandy
