    How long is the process?

It will greatly depend on what you insurance requires. Mine required a 4 month waiting period during which I had to have 2 nutritional consults, a psych eval, records showing a minimum of a 2 year history of obesity, and a history of previous attempts at weight loss. Then I had to complete the requirements of the surgery center/surgeon - lab work, PFT, ECG, medical clearance from my cardiologist, and 2 week pre-op diet. The time went by faster than I thought it would. They were ready to do the surgery before I was!
  2. Every insurance policy is written differently. You will need to contact them to see if you have coverage and what their requirements are to be approved. I'm in the process right now and they require a 3 month medically monitored weight loss, a psych eval, 2 years of medically noted weight and an appointment with a nutritionist. My surgeons office takes it a step further and requires a 10% of access weight loss (for me this is 19lbs), a sleep study, a letter of support from PCP and to attend a support group meeting. All in all I'm looking at a total of 4 to 5 months before I am cleared for sugery.
  3. Sept 9th here!! Ihave a cold that still wont go away over 30 days ...... and like you stalls here and there , some reflux too but overall this is the easiest surgery and I am sooooooo happppy with my results so far , started at 338 down to 275 thats 63 lbs....got 110 more to go to be at goal... note half my weightloss was before surgery... so I think we are were we need to be !!! congrats on your weight loss
  4. My surgery was on September 6th, weighing in at 245. Almost 9 weeks out, and I'm weighting in at 211.4. So... I'm at about 34 pounds lost in two months. I've had stalls, sickness, again and again... Just wondering how my fellow September sleevers were doing with their weight loss? Am I where I should be, I think?

    Sleep Study Tonight

I am hoping mine goes away with some weight loss.... i have tried every mask and the full is better for me because i sleep with my mouth somewhat open. I only sleep an hr or two at a time. Last night was the first night in year's i have slept almost four hours without waking up. So i am really hoping with some more weight loss i won't need my machine anymore.

    need some reassurance!

I felt the same way. It will be okay. The weight loss will start taking the panic away. I think we do have to mourn the loss of the old way we ate. We had a strong relationship with food and it is different now. I so want to gorge sometimes I would use food to calm down. Now I have to look deeper inside of myself. I am still so glad I did it, but it has not always been easy. You,ll be fine...

    Dehydrated?

Make sure your protein is at least 60g or your hair will fall out!

    Calling all snails...

I can't really eat much of anything comfortably right now. I think it's a combo of my band being a hair too tight AND my period is due tomorrow and that seems to make things even tighter. I slimed all last evening. I was hungry, but couldn't find anything compatible with my band. So, I ended up with a protein shake and will do that for the next couple of days. If my band doesn't loosen up by the end of the month at my next appointment, I might have the doc take a hair out. I hate to have any removed, but I would also like to eat comfortably at some sort. Maybe I will lose enough weight that it will loosen on its own. Slime on!:sifone:

    Swelling Is Gone:(

Hi Mel, I am right there with you. My appointment is Wednesday and I will be just over four weeks from surgery. Have not felt a return of hunger until very recently -- have noticed in last week to ten days that I am hungry again sooner, although I'm still satisfied on a small portion. My weight loss has stalled. Could be a small plateau or I am taking in too many calories. I look forward to discussing all this with the doctor. A bit nervous about a fill as I've been doing so well and don't want to rock the boat. Good luck to you Tuesday -- let's compare notes!

    Banded and confused

There could be any number of reasons for that. You'll have to give us some more information: Have you had any fills? What are you eating, and how much? Are you exercising? Do you have any underlying health issues that cause weight gain or that might make you resistant to weight loss? Are you on any medications that might cause it? And most importantly, have you talked with your surgeon about it?

    Digestive Help

Hey all, Not to sound nasty or TMI, but I have a serious question and wonder if you guys can help. I don't seem to be going to the bathroom enough... I'm not constipated per say, but it seems to me that it would be a lot healthier if I went more often. Before surgery, I didn't go to the bathroom terribly often.. maybe once a day or every other day... but now it's seemed to stretch out even more. I try to eat more Fiber, but I'm wondering if there are any supplements or anything else that would be recommended. I'm losing steadily, and I'm wondering if my digestive tract was functioning better if this would be a boost to my weight loss and over all health. Any suggestions or thoughts would be much appreciated! :smile2:
  14. Hello everyone so happy to be a member of this community. I just had my consult yesterday and will be getting the band soon. I guess I'm wondering if you started losing weight before the 1st fill of your band. I'm guessing after surgery you are on liquids. I don't have all of the info yet. Just curious how soon I can expect to lose after the surgery? Just excited for the losing to begin.

I like how my face got a little thinner, now I want the rest to catch up! Seems like it's taking forever... I know, I'm being impatient. I need to work out more, I know that! Ugh...

  16. Mine has started coming out today also . I am 3 months and 1 week post surgery . I bought hair extensions clip in,Months ago but it takes time to put them in. I also purchased toppik products and started them today ! I hope it only last 90 days like most others ! ;( if your hair tangles like mine does , toppik conditioner doesn't untangle as well as other conditioner . Anyway as you cry about your hair loss I will be crying with you about mine
  17. Hi All! Once you were cleared to exercise what work outs did you find helpful that had the most weight loss? I'm thinking about getting a personal trainer but not sure about the cost especially if it's something I can do. Any suggestions?

It's been a while, but it's been pretty good!

I haven't posted in a while, but i've done pretty good. I had a couple days that i could and wanted to eat anything i wanted. I had crawfish and i was a happy camper! I still lost which was surprising actually. I would have been happy to have just not gained! Mom came and did not say ONE FREAKING WORD about my loss. should i be surprised? why can't she be happy with what i have accomplished? oh well...this is not for her, or about her.... i went to my appointment on monday March 30 for a fill. i got 3 cc's. i kinda feel something every so often, maybe a tiny bit of restriction? i dunno. i know i can still eat things i shouldn't be able to and able to eat quick and not worry about forgetting to chew chew chew.

    Lab Work

So sorry about your loss. May I suggest you start (if you haven't been already) seeing a therapist. I still struggle with emotional including stress eating. I think your comorbidities can help you. But the other poster was right when they said that you may have to do a liver shrinking diet before surgery.

    Pre-Op and gaining weight

I'm getting sleeved on tuesday and from what i read and know it's an Adkins type diet we all follow after surgery. High in Protein, low in cards. If you need structure, follow the adtkins exactly for a while..the first phase is very strict and then it gets a bit more lienient as the stages progress. You can still have high quality foods, just limit them to whats on their list of foods. You can eliminate carbs slowly is you can't tolerate going all the way. Carbs are easily processed by the body so your metabolism doens't have to kick up when you eat them. If you eat a little protein every 3-4 hours, your body's metabolism has to kick up to process the protein. Making meals and Snacks with high protein will hellp with weight loss. Good luck with your journey! Gayle

    Whats "normal"?

if there is anything I've learned since joining this site, it's that everybody's weight loss pattern is different...sometimes I think the variance is partially because different doctors have different post-surgery diets...mine did not have any such requirements; therefore, I started surgery day at 0 lbs lost...others have gone on three month pre-ops and lost 50 lbs pre-surgery...then others have 2 week liquid diets pre-op and can lose 20 or 30 lbs before surgery...you and I are the same height but I weighed 268 on surgery date and am down about 20 lbs since then...so I am not even where you are at now...I would think that the less weight overall you have to lose, the less quickly it would come off...but that is just intuitive thinking on my part

    Still dieting after gastric bypass

Feel your pain. I am 4 months out and stalls happen often. Remember it's not a race. Everyone loses at differently. This is for the rest of your life. Just make your choices wisely. Rule of thumb, eat protein first, then vegetables/ salad and if there is still room a healthy carb. Going STRICT low carb is not good either. Believe me I did low carb under 20 carbs for 2 years. Difficult to sustain, because life happens. I ended up gaining back a 100 pounds and more! I don't eat white potatoes, white bread or pastas, but I do now eat low carb bread, nuts, and low carb fruit and nuts. Just don't do strict low carb , because when you deviate even just a little, your body gains very quickly. Wishing you well on this weight loss journey [emoji4] Sent from my Nexus 5 using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. Iggy, how are things? I know that you are still around and posting, just wondering how the claw is holding and how are the stages of eating working out for you? Hope your little boy is happy to have his mommy home and that you are indeed looking forward to the holidays, decorating and being alive!! Hopefully you will give us an update, there are a few of us that really care and loved to banter with you! I haven't updated my ticker but I am 100 pounds down now in just over a year including pre-op weight loss. I feel so much better, and I am used to my sleeve now, it feels normal. I know my fullness cues and try not to cheat (much) but a small piece of dark chocky makes me swoon and a glass of red wine now and then helps me make it thru my busy days. I take care of my 9 year old grandson and life is deliciously good with my little guy around to make me laugh! Sending you good thoughts Iggychick!!
  25. I underwent RNY on 12/31/13. I started off at 219lbs. Day of surgery, weighed in at 209. Lost weight consistently for the first three months and have been at a plateau ever since. I went to my 3 month appt late (so in May) because I was embarrassed at my low amount of weight loss. I was down 40 lbs from when it all started. Doctor was pleased but I was/am frustrated. I journaled, ate appropriate number of Protein grams, liquids, exercised, and still can't lose the weight. I went in on 5/12 to be exact and I still have not lost weight. I am now considering the HCG diet, since that is also a very low calorie diet. I am so frustrated. I currently weigh 177 and I can't keep losing. The surgeon wants me to get to 131lbs. Any suggestions, assistance would be greatly apprecited. Good news is that I no longer have sleep apnea or diabetes. I know overall I have lost a good amount of weight, but I am frustrated that I do everything right and have not lost anything since March, 2014 (except the 2 lbs that fluctuate). HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hailey50_0
