Morning all! Firstly - is 100 grams of protein too much? I'm 3 weeks post-op and I notice that's about what I get in a day. Premier Protein shake (30g), yogurt (12g), Unjury Shake (21g), snack like beef stick or lunch meat rollup (10g) and something for dinner, usually around 20-30g. I feel like my nutritionist told me to stay around 60-70 and maybe up to 80 since I'm a guy otherwise I'd be risking kidney damage. Secondly - my weight has been stair stepping. I'll get on the scale and be the EXACT same weight as the day before, down to the tenth of a pound. That will repeat for 2-4 days no matter what I do. Then I'll lose 2 pounds and that process will start over. I expected to be losing more than 2 pounds a week and it seems odd that I'm losing weight in chunks with no changes in between. I get my protein, obviously, and I get my water - usually close to 96 oz of water alone not including any shakes.

I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

I tried hard for the first week to just drink water. Second week I just ate yogurt for protein. I was so stressed about it and finally said forget it. I was still breathing and Alive and that’s all that mattered in the beginning. Lol. I just ate what worked for my tummy and stopped stressing so much early on. You’ll get your protein in due time. -

In my second week I was doing full fluids: protein shakes, clear & strained cream soups - with no chunks or pureed stuff in it (pureed stuff wasn't on the table until week four in my plan). Other full fluids (I didn't eat any of these during weeks 2-4, but were on my allowed list): plain greek yogurt, no/low salt vegetable juices, cream of wheat. P.S. I would lay off the fruit juices though, they tend to have too much sugar in them.... -
Yesterday was a busy busy day moving our storage unit across town. I fell asleep by 7pm then woke up hungry at midnight. So what did I do? I ate! Ugh! LOL Can tell my arm is unhappy with all the activity and salt from yesterday, cuz I'm having a lymphedema flare in my left arm, chest, and back. Oy veh. Time for compression. This is what I'm making for Thanksgiving "maybe" unless I do smashed roasted cauliflower instead. The difference is that I won't use as much butter and will be making turkey tenderloins cooked the way I cooked the chicken breasts. Yum. And so dang easy!!! I won't even miss the loads of butter! https://fluffychixcook.com/pumpkin-in-browned-butter-aka-refried-pumpkin-keto-allergy-kiss-day-2/ Here's the link to the smashed roasted cauliflower: https://fluffychixcook.com/roasted-mashed-cauliflower-aka-roasted-smashed-fauxtatoes/ I make em the same way now post surgery, but I use MUCH less butter and in place of cream cheese I use Greek nonfat yogurt or neufchatel cheese or lite cheese wedges. -
Agree with above advice. Let me also stess the need to cut your grain carbs for the time being. The grain carbs will raise your glucose levels which in turn causes your insulin to shoot up. The insulin drives the blood sugar down and then you are hungry again. This can cycle all through the day. Cut out the grains and never eat fruit without the protection of protein. A little fruit is fine in a protein smoothie, or as dessert with some yogurt at the END of a meal. But not as a snack. Ok, For part two: EVERY time you eat, insulin levels increase. Insulin drives calories into fat storage. The more often you eat or snack, the more insulin you have floating around, doing it's dirty work to store fat and not allow fat burning. You have to limit your meals to 3 a day with NO snacking. Just doing this alone (along with eliminating grain and minimizing fruit) will take the pounds off. If you want to amp it up even more, give yourself an 8-10 hour window to eat each day. Only eat your nutritious food during this window. This is one form of intermediate fasting (most people skip an early morning meal and start around noon.) It is very powerful and kicks you into a fat burning mode. Do your exercise routine during this fasting time, and you will get even more benefit. I am also very nutrition conscious. I was not allowed to eat any form of veggies for 8 WEEKS post op!!!!! I have a large organic garden, and this was just torture! (I ended up making filtered greens water that I added to everything. My doc was mad at first, but I showed him that it was CLEAR and was a heck of lot better than Crystal Light, Gatorade, pop-sickles, or any other artificial "food."). Anyway, you have to follow the plan and get your protein in first. Then add all the veggies you want (except starchy ones.) At 6 months, I was still only eating about 600 cal/day. But I made every bite count for optimal nutrition and my 6 month labs came back great. Do not worry about becoming nutrient deficient at this point. Your labs were fine and you can eat plenty of phyto-nutrient dense foods now. But you still have to get your protein in to protect your muscle mass. Sometimes overeating is from fear of malnutrition, resulting in OVER eating. An overweight person is NOT well nourished - they are over nourished, which leads to a host of other serious problems. You can do this. The "honeymoon" period can last a lot longer than 6 months. You haven't lost the opportunity to maximize the next 6 months. The whole first year is really important and now that you can eat more "real" foods, you should not worry at all about nutrition if you are eating a healthy balance.

I think we're all different honestly. And you have to do what you know is right. I would try to see if I could find some balance due to your fear. I would: Only have 1 green smoothie a day (if you feel you must). Pack it with a scoop of protein powder, 1oz of avocado, 2oz of deep dark greens, psyllium husks, 1oz of blueberries (or other deep berry), liquid stevia, 28g Greek yogurt (plain) and thin it down with ice and either Fairlife Fat Free Milk or unflavored almond or cashew milk (not as much protein). Then for lunch, I'd have raw veggies in a salad or with my 2-3oz of protein + raw veggies. Use a Greek yogurt (plain) dip with Ranch seasoning if you need. Thin it with Fairlife Fat Free Milk. Include 1oz of avocado and a very very very light oil. I used 3 zeros Italian or Greek (zero cal dressing) or Walden Farms zero cal dressing. I would add 5g of pumpkin seeds or 10g of some kind of nut. That way you are getting plenty of fat for fat soluble vitamin absorption. Then for dinner, I'd have 3-4oz of protein + 1-2oz al dente steamed veg + 1oz avocado + 1oz grape tomatoes. I would drop everything else. Your hunger should come under control in 3-4 days from now. I would try to get in a range of 700-800 cals per day. I lost best around 650-700 cals and carbs at 30g net or below per day. At the rate you are going, I honestly believe you will stop losing well before you are finished or should be finished. You need to up your speed and you are right to feel concern. You are mainlining sugar into your body with all your juicing and smoothies. And just quit the grains. No one needs em. Frankly. If they are causing your weight loss to slow so significantly and causing so much hunger, you clearly as an individual cannot handle them right now. Maybe for maintenance, but the question should ALWAYS be: How did your meal xy or z make you feel 1 hour after eating, 2 hours after eating, the next morning. How long was it before you felt hunger cues. By now, you should be able to go 3-4 hours minimum between meals. If you cannot, you are having blood sugar roller coasters and those are very bad for all of us. Hope that helps. It's not too late to restart your plan!!!! Choose to do it today!

I'll tell you, the past two weeks were easier than I thought being on the liquid diet with some low-cal yogurt and one Proti-bar per day. However the last two days of clear liquid have officially sucked. I don't like the clear protein drink and I just feel weak and tired. On top of all that, nervous about tomorrow. Mine is later in the day. 12:15pm, the hospital called on Friday to discuss last minute stuff and I hope it's not further delayed in the day and I'm done and through recovery with enough time to see my family. In the last week I've finally told my sister and my Mother so they want to be there now. However I am also very encouraged. Both because I can't believe I've plowed through these last two weeks without a single mis-step and because I finally found this community. It's so nice to be here, even though I'm mostly a lurker and haven't posted much. So, how are the rest of my November 11th brothers and sisters doing?

MariahS0105 replied to theexfatgirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
the first 2 weeks were so tough for me, i feel your pain! i really survived off of protein shakes and greek yogurt. not the best food choices but they did the job. my biggest problem was drinking enough fluids. i’m at 5 weeks post op and i just got cleared for soft solid foods and it hasn’t been all that great so far but i wish you luck! -
I'm amazed you were able to get that much down. At 2 days, I was struggling to get 20 ozs in. I'm at day 5 now and getting closer to 40. I also finished a Greek yogurt today. Took me over an hour...12g of protien...I also made some sugar free instant pudding with skim milk and once ready, added whey protein powerd along with P2B. Easy and tasty way to get 30 grams of protein in. Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

I am so sorry you are having a hard time. I am 4 months out and so happy for this surgery. My start was 203, surgery day 193, today 166. I did this for health reasons so it isn’t so much of being fat. One thing I did and still do is mix my protein shake in a nutribullet with ice. After you are cleared for other foods you can mix in berries, pb2 powder etc. I also made my crystal light or Gatorade zero I would put protein powder, collagen powder in it and make a frozen drink. It really helps. I always drank fast and gulped. This slowed me down and made it easier. My surgeon office really prepared us for what was about to happen. I guess I was fortunate It didn’t bother me with seeing food or even cooking for my husband. This will pass and will be much easier. Once you can even have yogurt it makes a difference. I really forget I had this surgery, I enjoy life much more. I go out to dinner, just eat a lot less and take over half my dinner home. The hard part is the first month after that it is just normal but you eat less at a time. if you are struggling a lot physically or mentally I would reach out to your surgeons office for help. You want to nip this in the butt now so you can be successful. It also helps to look at all the pics these nice people post of their transformation. It is very motivational and can help pull you through the rough times. Good luck to you. -
Well ladies lots of stuff going on and I missed a few days logging. 169.8 was my weigh in this morning and I am still 1 pound over my window of 167 to 168. I am not sweating it I just need to get on the ball. The holidays are coming and so is my first cruise in Jan ! YIKES Breakfast 3/4 slice of Caseys breakfast pizza and 2 bites of biscuit and gravy Lunch 1/2 cup of spaghetti and meat sauce Dinner 3oz tri tip with green beans Snack braum frozen yogurt and handful m&m I know I need to start pulling away from all the carbs, so this morning I started out with an egg delight and it wasn't to bad

Friday 11.08 - Maintenance : 5'4" / 57y F/ 19.5mo PO RNY / 130.4 lbs B-Protein lattes (4oz PP) L-Sardines in water (drained) + yellow mustard + cucumbers with ACV & Tajin spice + baby carrots AS-wasn't hungry D-italian sausage + marinara + parm + 2 glasses cabernet sauvignon + 1/2 small dinner salad + blue cheese dressing + grilled shrimp (sorry forgot to take a pic) BS-cottage cheese + pln grk yogurt + bananas & cream PP + frozen blueberries + walnuts + hemp hearts + chia seeds Daily Totals: 1195 cals; 73g protein; 51g fat; 53g carbs; 10g fiber; 41g net carbs My hunger stayed in check yesterday. Yay! Dinner was date night and extended, so we started with sharing Italian sausage in marinara and having a glass of wine. Then later we had dinner and a second glass of wine. I'm likely overestimating dinner--I found a hair in it about 1/3 of the way in and that was it for me. But I later got hungry, so went for my flavah fave... Today is a swamped day! Y'all have a good one!! @ms.sss Ha! We're posting at the same time! Will bbiaf after I've read your posts!!!

Can I have lump crab spinach dip puréed?
FluffyChix replied to theexfatgirl's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
We know nothing about you. Maybe fill out your profile so we can see how far out you are, what kind of surgery you had, etc. Simple and low fat low cal is best to maximize your weight loss during this brief honeymoon period. People typically lose their most weight in the first 2 months when they don't or can't eat much and what little they do eat is very low in calories, high in nutrients and protein. I skipped puree. I was able to go per my doc to mushies, but I ate puree level stuff (fork mashable). I had things like: tuna and egg salad mixed with 2% cottage cheese and greek yogurt and dijon canned chicken with low cal/low carb gravy and smashed cauliflower soups (broths and cream with extra protein) chili (not so good--too much fat and too much spice) yogurt + cottage cheese + apple sauce (unsweetened) green smoothies foil wrapped fish canned veg or frozen veg cooked until death -
11 days post op no restriction with liquids at all just tried yoghurt today no issues either??
lvidacovich replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I'm just ahead of you in the process - I'm 2 weeks 4 days today. And like you I had no issue getting water and yogurt down - even 4 days after surgery I was getting 64 oz in just water, not to mention my protein shakes. But then came week 2 when I started soft foods and I couldn't eat a whole scrambled egg. Then the next night I barely finished my 4 oz of chili (which was mostly 3 oz of chili liquid and 1 oz lean beef). I wondered the exact same stuff you were but trust me, the restriction will come. Just stick to your plan. And don't worry about the weight stall when you start soft foods. I just hit it and got over it (I think and hope). BTW we'll have to chat about Australia sometime soon. Wife and I are thinking of going there and NZ in May for our 10 year anniversary! -

Don't test the envelope. Follow your doc's progression and limits for you so you maximize your time and protect your healing tummy. I didn't feel restriction until about month 3 or 4. Until then, my nerves were healing and weren't giving good signals to my brain. So I ate on a schedule and only ate what I was supposed to eat in a meal volume determined by my doc and RD. I too had no trouble getting fluids in or taking in yogurt. I felt no restriction--until month 3-4. But by following the rules, I was at my Goal #1 by month 8 I think? I can eat more than others to this day. Always could. That is why the myth of restriction is a myth. Pouch size is only important and significantly associated with lack of loss or regain when volume exceeds 9oz by volume. That is right at my volume level. I can hold 9-10oz of cottage cheese by volume. It is more important HOW you fill your pouch and even more importantly, HOW OFTEN you fill it. Fill it with low cal, low fat, high protein, low carb, intensely nutritious food and you should not have issues... -
I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!
FluffyChix replied to theexfatgirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As @GreenTealael said, the only way through it is through it. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Right now THE most important thing is liquid. Get your water in. Get up early if you need to in order to accomplish this. It's vital to your health and can quickly land you in the ER if you don't. Plus the bonus is, the more hydrated you keep your new tool, the easier time you will have in your protein drinks. Tips for getting your protein and water in: Vary the temperature and find the one your pouch prefers the most. That's the temp of both protein and water (both count towards fluid totals for the day) where things go down easiest with the least pain. Vary the thickness of your protein and water to find the thickness that is the easiest to go through your tool. The thinnest would be water, the thickest would be like a Premier Protein RTD drink or cream soup. I had the best results by cutting PP RTD drinks with things like decaf coffee, decaff tea, water, unsweetened cashew or almond milk, fat free Fairlife or other Protein Milk, etc. Vary the strength of your protein to find a sweetness level that you tolerate. I did best with a 50/50 mix of PP RTD and Isopure Drinks also Premier Protein Clear mixed with fluids that cut the sweetness such as fat free Fairlife Milk or Mootopia (adds protein from the milk), decaff coffee, decaff tea, water. Add unflavored whey protein to soups, both broths and strained creamed soups. This gives a savory protein option. Also BP Store here has lots of lovely individually packaged protein soups. Use fat free Fairlife or Protein Milk to thin soups too, for even more protein. Make yogurt soup using Premier Protein RTD drinks mixed with Greek yogurt or Kefir (both fat free). For the first week or so don't worry too much about your protein. Focus on getting a minimum of 64oz of liquid made up from water, decaff coffee, decaff tea, protein drinks, warm cocoa (sf protein style), popsicles (sf), ice chips, whatever you need to function. The last tip I have for you is that we all have an individual level of emotional maturity. Temper tantrums and rants are sometimes necessary to vent emotions but left unchecked can be detrimental. Not only to you but to your immediate peers in a support group. I found that when I took my power back and seized action by reframing the situation, my mood and outlook improved. The energy drain was stopped. And the future looked brighter and more hopeful. I would really encourage you to take your control back and plan your actions for success. It truly helps. Hope you feel better soon. Oh and don't forget to walk! Walk it off. Walk walk walk. It helps with the hunger, helps with mood, helps with strength. -

7-10 weeks it take your belly to heal, So be careful that is a big cut and will need to be taken care of, Do not push it and just chill and let your body recover, I can say even today i still have issues with some foods, There is a big difference between Yogurt and Cottage Cheese and a 4oz piece of chicken, So i would lay low till atleast week 5 to make sure you are somewhat healed up. F@#ck Food - is my attitude
