Good morning all! I'm 2 weeks and 2 days post-op and things seem to be going well. Much less pain daily and really only when I sneeze or cough does it hurt. Incisions are healing nicely. At first I lost fast, like 4 pounds a day. After a few days of that it slowed to 2 pounds a day, then 1 and now it's 1 pound every other day. I was 299 this morning, same as yesterday. It's been 28 total since surgery day (327 that morning) but the slowing down worries me. Am I still losing like a I should? What weight can I realistically expect to be at in 6 months? My 10 year anniversary is in May and we want to go to New Zealand and Australia for that but I'd LOVE to be under 250 so I can do all the adventure stuff I used to not be able to do due to weight limits. I get my liquids, at least 64 in just water and another 16 with my protein shakes at least. Yesterday I was pushing 96 oz of total liquid. Food is protein shake for lunch, then yogurt (2 g sugar total), then Unjury shake around lunch then some sort of soft protein for dinner (egg, chili, ground meat, etc). Additionally I couldn't eat a full egg last night. Maybe got 3/4 of it down before I felt 'full' and had some pain. Is that normal? Will it get better and will I be able to get my full 4 oz in eventually? Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled with what's happened so far - I'm just concerned for the future. I really thought I'd be shedding a pound a day at least and I'm concerned that I won't get to the full 4 oz I'm supposed to be eating.

Well I am at 5 months now and since I was 3 months Iโve honestly eaten basically every type of meat. I limit the red meat and donโt tolerate greasy food well so I limit it a lot, but I have tried about everything without issue. I prefer shrimp and other seafoods or chicken because they are less likely to make me feel bad. I havenโt eaten ground turkey yet and donโt really plan to start. It is super unappealing to me. I like regular turkey but ground turkey and chicken are not something I am interested in trying. I also love beans for variety. I think adapting to focusing all my meals on protein has been a big change for me personally. Has taken some adapting but the results have been awesome so Iโm all in. I also gave up yogurt after week 4 bc I was able to hit protein goal without it.

It is a mental game for sure. I was freaking out in August since I was already at goal and still consistently losing. I felt I had no control and at that rate would be 110 lbs. by October. I increased calories and volume as much as I could and the weight loss eventually slowed but still felt like I didn't have control of it. Sure enough as many of you said it would slow down. I think I have lost 1-2 pounds over the past 6-8 weeks but on some days I have gained a pound back so I guess I am officially maintaining at 126.5-128lbs. I am now at 1500 calories consistently and can sometimes eat 3/4 of a cup of food (if it's soft, or slider type) at a sitting. I can now eat and egg with some veggies, yogurt or RX bar in less than 5 minutes and finish a protein shake in 15-20 if i am in a hurry if I haven't eaten in the 1-2 hours before so it has definitely improved. I have now seen 2 plastic surgeons to discuss arm and tummy skin issues for a spring surgery. Both have said (at 5'2.5 in and 127lb.) that I don't have anymore fat I could lose. They both made comments about how thin I am (that sounds crazy to me because I would NEVER consider myself thin) and both said I am just skin and muscle. I thought I had some fat in the love handle area but the PS said it's just skin. So now the decision I have is to try and stay at 127lbs. or do I let myself slip down a few more pounds assuming I will have the 10 lb. regain everyone talks about or should I purposely try to gain a few pounds for my ideal weight. If I could set the scale for the future for a consistent weight for the rest of my life I would actually like to be 5-7 lb and maybe even 10 lb. heavier. At that weight a few months ago I felt I looked good and didn't have as much saggy skin. I would anticipate I would be losing 2-3 pounds of skin in the spring for surgery as well so i need to account for that.

Tips for Orthostatic Hypotension/Low Blood Pressure
AZhiker replied to sleeved102819's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is not uncommon during the immediate post op period. I had it, as have others on this forum. You are doing all the right things. Be sure to get up very slowly - sit, then stand, then walk. It will get better. The high heart rate is from low blood pressure when you stand up. Keep up your fluids and really try to find a protein supplement that works for you. Try mixing protein powder into your yogurt. Pea protein works well in soups. -
Tips for Orthostatic Hypotension/Low Blood Pressure
sleeved102819 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello new friends! This is so exciting to feel such support and know that I'm not alone. I was just sleeved on 10/28 and have been having some issues - I was released on 10/31 and back in the hospital yesterday, 11/4. I feel like my body is completely shutting down. I had a really high heart rate when standing and walking and could not even brush my teeth without having to run to lay down. I have been getting my fluids (broth and water) but barely any protein because the shakes made me sick (I started on yogurt and liquid soups on Monday which has helped). They checked for blood clots and checked everything with my heart thinking that could be the cause of the shortness of breath, high heart rate and extreme fatigue. We concluded that my body is adjusting and my blood vessels have changed after surgery making it hard for me to retain electrolytes. My urine was clear though, so again Im not sure if I was dehydrated. Anyways, my blood pressure drops when I stand up and it's scaring me - the dr. said to drink more electrolytes, get more sodium, and wear compression socks. I'm hoping once I get on purees in a week that can help me get more nutrients in and more energy. Has anyone gone through this and have any tips? Any tips in general for helping the body to adjust? My body is in shock I think and trying to preserve energy for my big body while not eating enough food so maybe that's it.- 5 replies

Day 5: So far so good. Though, I seriously suck at drinking water! It isn't a taste thing. Water is the only thing I do drink, with the exception of a morning cup of herbal tea, but I am just NEVER thirsty. Like, never, ever ever. Even when I should, by all rights, be really, really thirsty. I can actually forget to drink any liquid all day long at all (and have) if I am not really being mindful. I have to approach drinking like I treat taking vitamins almost. So weird... Not like I am eating soups or anything with liquids either- (maybe the yogurt 1x per day counts fluid wise some though?) Otherwise, it is lean protein/veg. Perhaps I am part camel. ๐ช ๐ I do force myself to drink, because, well, death. ๐ lol! I have gone back to a timer like early on, just to space it out better and get it in more as a part of my challenge here. I don't want to grow that back hump, even a little. Item in my home I am most grateful for: Like most people, my dog is the best! He is funny, loyal, and a huge part of our family. The house would not be the same without his sweet, sweet little face. ๐

I was strictly told to avoid caffeine for at least 6 months after surgery. I've been having a yogurt almost daily for over a week, no issues. Hope it gets better for you!

I had my surgery 10/22 and I've been eating yogurt since 5 days post-op without issue. I want to introduce dairy back into my system as soon as possible to make sure I don't get lactose intolerant.

Iโm starting to despise my chewable vitamins...
mcfluffington replied to pssk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take my meds and vitamins with a yogurt. It keeps me from getting nauseated. A protein shake works as well. -
My dumping was both ends. Went to walk in clinic and had Iv fluids with lots of Zofran. Dr guessed that yogurt is not a great idea this early. Insane how sick I was. thank you for input. Iโm going back to clear protein drink for breakfast

I am never going to be able to maintain my weight with the little I eat argghhh Today I've only had one yogurt, 3 wings, a packet of protein chips, and a packet of dried seaweed. My plastic surgeon saw me today and said I looked awesome and not *gaunt* like some bypass patients end up.... but I'm on that path. Making turkey brats w/ coleslaw for dinner. Yesterday I ate straight JUNK knowing I would get sick but it was a lot of calories and I felt desperate in the moment to "stop losing". I did get sick, not shockingly. I'm about to have my plastics so I have GOT to get the cals and protein up for recovery. Big unf. I tried eating some beef veggie soup my stepdad made that *gasp* had TINY cubes of potato in it and it made me sweaty and nauseous. Edit: Just reading the few above comments. I DO know my BMR and it's 1350 (give or take). Which is comical since I eat about 600-700 cals tops (and obviously a lot less today).

Just starting today so a few days late. I actually have been thinking about needing to be more positive and grateful so once again, you have started a wonderful monthly challenge. 1. Personal Goal - lose and reach a goal I want badly for myself even though it is not 'low enough' for my height. I want to be around 170. The "charts" all want me to be 140 but I've been 170 before throughout many years of my adult life however that being said, I was younger and more physically fit and I had a SMALL waist and flat stomach so most ppl assumed I was much lighter than I was. So perhaps when I hit 170 with all of my excess skin, I may realize that I need to change this goal but for now that is the weight I'd love to reach. 2. Had RNY on 7/25 - Post-Op losing weight stage 3. Am 281.4 as of this morning (from high of 390) and BMI just hit 45!! Can't believe when I started this journey 2 years ago and started a low carb lifestyle (15+ months BEFORE surgery), that my BMI was 62.9! 11/1: Grateful I had WLS. Wish I had done it sooner, but glad I got it done 11/2: Computers & internet connectivity that make it possible to work on employer's network while working remotely. Was such a huge blessing to have a flexible schedule (although we work insane hrs) to help care for my best friend during her battle with brain cancer and then my Mom's awful 3 year battle with dementia. 11/3: Grateful I made it to another bday alive..although I'm not enamored of whole 'aging' thing, as my Dad used to say "it beats the alternative". Kind of feels weird as I'm am getting 'older' yet due to the weight loss and exercising, I feel better than I did in my 40's! I don't 'feel' my age. Oh yeah, food I'm most grateful for - Kroger Carbmaster yogurt! 11/4: Like others said - the birth of my kids. So many sweet memories of them when they were younger. But ANY memory of my Mom & Dad are some of the most precious ones I have. I had INCREDIBLE parents. One of my sweetest memories with my Mom (at start of dementia journey) was us seeing Susan Boyle perform at Bass Performance Hall. It was my bday present for her. My youngest brother paid to rent a 'limo' to see us to concert "in style". Well, this is TX but boy were we SHOCKED when a HUGE white limo with horns on it pulled into her driveway. It was so OVER THE TOP. My best friend who was still fighting her brain cancer battle cracked up hysterically over pics of my Mom in this limo with me & neon lighting all around..she said "your Mom looks like she is being held hostage". We both were laughing when the limo deposited us outside the performance hall and everyone was checking us out...LOL. The concert was lovely and my Mom who smiled all the time but often does not smile in pics...was so happy. We nestled against each other for most of the concert. Oh sweet Jesus, I miss her so much..thank you for letting me have her as a Mom.

It sounds like a stomach bug, and nothing related to the yogurt! Feel better. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

My first night on the soft food diet I made a pot roast and it was delicious. I was told you can eat anything soft. So soft cooked meats, veggies, eggs, yogurt. I have had chili, baked beans, brisket etc. I was told also no hard foods: chips, crackers, popcorn, nuts, and any tough meats. Anything crunchy. Hope this helps!

I ate a small 4 oz container of yogurt yesterday. I think I am experiencing dumping. Although this is so much worse than I imagined. I have been so sick for the last 17 hours. I canโt keep anything down and minimal rest on bathroom floor. How long does this last?

Ok, here it goes. I do major prepping for the week on Sunday. After church, I pop over to Spouts for the veggies and soy yogurt. Once home, I make a batch of granola for the week and store in jars. I shred up the salad basics (finely shredded brussell sprouts, red cabbage, carrots, with Romaine, spinach, kale.) That is BAG ONE. (Avocado and tomato added before eating.) Then I make BAG TWO which is the veggie munchie bag. I can add these to the salad, as well. (Peppers, carrots, celery, cucumber.) BAG THREE has veggies that I can steam or add raw to salad or use as munchies (cauliflower, broccoli, butternut squash, summer squash, green beans, etc.) CONTAINER ONE is prepped fresh fruit (citrus, apple/pear, grapes, kiwi, melon, etc.). I use this in the evening as dessert, mixed with yogurt, protein powder, and granola. In my freezer I have frozen berries, prickly pear juice, and banana chunks for my morning green smoothie. (Kale, soy milk, prickly pear juice, berries, protein powder, piece of banana.) I have seeds, nuts, and whole grains stored in jars in my pantry. I usually make a batch of soup on Sunday as well, for dinner. Last week it was chili. Week before it was lentil. Before that it was split pea. Today it was CHICKEN with veggies and wild rice. I am conceding to some meat product one day a week at most - but only from my own home grown chickens, eggs, or from my neighbor who raises goats. I am trying to model the plant based eating after real world societies where 80-90% may be plant based, but with intermittent animal sources like fish, eggs, wild game. Animal proteins are also used in these societies for celebrations like holidays or weddings. So I don't have a problem with a little meat on a holiday. From what I have read, an 80% plant based diet has the same effects on longevity, heart disease, and cancer as 100%. So this is what I am attempting. Hopefully my labs will reflect lower cholesterol and less inflammation. SAMPLE MENU FOR A DAY: (I prefer to skip breakfast, but have been adding the meal to increase daily calories.) BREAKFAST: Green smoothie or multigrain (any combo of whole oat, teff, quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, millet, sorghum) cooked cereal with flaxseed, hemp, berries, soy milk (I usually use the cooked cereal breakfast before a training ride). LUNCH and afternoon: Legume/grain based soup (pea protein added), rice cake with peanut butter, black bean burger, 1/2 apple with almonds, Veggie munchies. Corn tortilla with refried beans/salsa. DINNER: "Budda" bowl (salad, beans, nuts, whole grain, seeds, tomato, avocado, olives, edamame, cashew "cheese" dressing.) Steamed veggies. DESSERT: Fruit/yogurt/granola bowl. Dark chocolate covered almonds. Occasionally some popcorn. That is a LOT of food. My pouch cannot handle any more.

Yes, I thought of that. I am eating quite a bit in the way of nuts and seeds, legumes, homemade granola, oatmeal, butternut squash, sweet potato, avocado, peanut butter. I add protein powder to smoothies and yogurt. I even eat some 80% cacoa chocolate covered almonds in the evening. Can't think of more calorie dense foods, except for adding sugar, which I cannot do. Sugar and wheat cause massive inflammatory reactions in my joints.

11/ 2 & 3: Technology I'm most grateful for : it's a 50/50 split modern medicine and indoor plumbing ๐ Could you imagine being alive in a time without either๐ Food I'm most grateful for: IDK ? If you asked me a year ago I would have said yogurt because i ate it Every. Single. Day Now I barely touch the stuff. Same with a lot of foods for me. I love and leave them alone for a while IDK why. But Tea which isn't technically a food but a drink has never fallen out of my good graces since childhood ๐ I think I am briefly negative with myself when naked , I'm always like just fly to Miami tomorrow and get plastics NBD ๐

Food I am grateful for: Mine would have to be yogurt. I ๐ it! Kind of a sweet "treat".

3 weeks post op + weight gain
Bianca S. replied to Bianca S.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I can not eat more than 4 Oz still. Eggs and yogurt I can eat 5-6oz. -
Update on Whole Foods Plant Based diet. I continue to lose weight - I think 3 pounds in the past couple of weeks. I am not yet 100% plant based (still using some Greek yogurt, whey protein, and occasional egg in chaffles), but 90 % plant based. This means a lot more legumes, nuts, seeds and whole cooked grains. I am getting plenty of protein - no issues with that. A lot more carbs, which is so counter intuitive with weight loss, but it is still coming off. This morning before my bike ride I had a bowl of Old Fashioned oats, cooked with quinoa, teff, and amaranth. Added some hemp hearts, flaxseed meal, and barrel cactus seeds (like chia). Sweetened with raisins, and a little banana, with soy milk. Very yummy and filling. I ate this 2 hours before my ride. For lunch I had split pea/lentil soup with carrots, celery, onions. Also some fruit (cantalope and berries.) I added half a scoop of pea protein to the soup. Also had a spoon of peanut butter after my ride. Dinner will be a "Budda" bowl with shredded Brussels sprouts, red cabbage, romaine, spinach, cucumber, tomato, avacado. Cashew nut/nutritional yeast "cheese" mixed with apple cider vinegar for a dressing. Topped with slivered almonds, hazel nuts, dried edamame, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, barrel cactus seeds, and hazel nuts. Cooked beans, butternut squash, and cooked buckwheat on the side. If I have room, I will steam some squash and beans from the garden, along with some broccoli. I may also have a couple mini corn tortillas with refried beans and salsa. Evening snack is soy (or Greek) yogurt with mixed berries, mandarin orange, slivered almonds, and homemade granola. Sometimes I have a square of 80% cacao chocolate. I eat about 2 pounds of vegetables/fruit per day (mostly veggies). Legumes every day, seeds/nuts every day, whole grains every day. I am completely full all the time - never hungry. With prepped veggies always in the fridge, there is always something to grab if I feel the need for a munchie. I feel good - mentally alert, physically strong, sleeping well (better, in fact). I don't feel as "heavy" inside as when I was eating more meat. However, I do have to be careful for bloating and smelly gas. I found this to be a problem with raw broccoli and beans that I cooked without draining the soaking water. Even Beano did not help. Canned beans do not do this. It can be a problem with bypass patients, as our gut biome changes, and it is harder to digest and break down those particular foods. I just have to cook the broccoli and be careful with the home cooked beans. So far, so good. My fear about inadequate protein is completely dismissed. I am getting so much good nutrition and I hope inflammatory markers will be way down with my next lab draw in Feb.

That happened to me occasionally. Sometimes it was if I ate too much and irritated the pouch the day before so I backed off and just had liquids and soft foods like yogurt for 24 hours. It would also happen if I was busy at work and ate a lot less. It felt as if I was back to the first week after surgery and unable to get alot of food in. Either way after 24 hours I would go back to my normal.

Boiled eggs carrots cheese Cucumbers hummus olives Cuts of cheese & meats of your choice Yogurt and fruit Soup in a thermos Cauliflower rice or mash and meatloaf Meal prep will be key to a lot of these. Do you have Pinterest Instagram etc? There are TONS of people giving out great free advice and examples. Usually its under Keto meal preps

I like having yogurt for work lunches/snacks. Since it is a slider food I can eat a cup of high protein greek yogurt in less than 10 minutes. If I tried that with lunch meat I could only get a bit in. I would also take a string cheese and could stick it in my pocket and take a few bites in a stairwell or elevator between breaks just to get more protein in. If I was desperate I would also have protein water or protein shakes so i could get a few sips here and there.
