3rd Week Post Op, lower belly cramping
laney replied to Crystal Ann Keister's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
My Dr put me on stool softener day after surgery. I take 2 a day and I have to say they helped. You do not want to strain. My first BM after surgery was a killer, but once I started with the stool softener it became better. (TMI) sorry -
so what did you do to break the stall?
Lissa replied to tjharmon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stalled at 3 weeks as well. And stayed there for two weeks of bouncing up and down on the same darn 3 pounds. I added in carbs, eating baked crackers and Peanut Butter. I also upped my Water consumption a bit from 64 oz to 80 oz a day. There was another TMI reason for the upped water consumption, too. After two weeks, I suddenly dropped 7 pounds in two days, so I think that all helped. Mostly, I just made myself not worry about the stall. It doesn't help and anxiety makes me want to eat. -
Things I should get before surgery?
ecoreen94 replied to ecoreen94's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How about 2 weeks post op? I know I'm naturally pretty gassy *sorry TMI* so I don't want it to be even worst. My sister who had surgery last week is having the worst gas problems. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
How long before you guys had a bowel movement after surgery. Is it normal not to go during the post op liquid stages?
-
Literally one of the most commonly asked questions on the forum: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?&q=TMI&search_in=titles Just searching "TMI" in the titles only will give you 481 results. "Constipation" will give you 467. The search tool is better now than it used to be. To answer your question, it's not abnormal. It's pretty common. If you don't have a BM after a week, start with the laxatives/stool softeners. And talk to your Dr.

Hey all, so I was sleeved on 5/23. I am so grateful for everything I've learned from this board just by reading people's stories, so hopefully, someone can benefit from mine... My surgery was at 9:15 am this Tuesday. On my way to the hospital, I was complaining to my sister that I wish my surgery was outpatient instead of I day inpatient stay because I was so sure I'd be fine and just wasting my time in a hospital... boy was I wrong! Apparently I don't tolerate anesthesia well at all. I woke up in the PACU in horrible pain and severe nausea/gagging/abdominal spasms that were almost nonstop. The last time I had surgery was when I was a kid and I just remember waking up and feeling a bit of pain then.. I thought it may be the same. I was transferred to my unit for my first night and every few minutes I was calling the nurse for pain meds or nausea meds, or both. They had me on 3 different types of medications for nausea, 2 different pain meds. Despite this, I was still having significant breakthrough pain and nausea. I couldn't get out of my bed at all, let alone walk a few hours after surgery. The entire time I kept thinking what the heck did I do to myself and I wondered whether I'd be sent home feeling this way. I didn't get more than a few minutes of sleep the entire night. All of the nurses on the floor did everything they could to help me out and I could not be more grateful for such a wonderful team caring for me. The next morning I was still on max doses of all the same medications, but I was starting to feel better. Started walking with the nurse's assistant and took a few more laps around the floor throughout the day. I had lots of secretions in my lungs that was keeping my oxygen saturation down, so I had to clear them out. By evening time, I was more stable, but I still had not peed and was not passing gas. This may be TMI but they had to catheterize me 5 times I had to stay inpatient for another night so they could monitor my urine output. This morning I woke up much better, just trying to take in all of my fluids, but I'm getting small bouts of nausea from just one 1oz of liquid per hour. It's slowly getting better, but I'm still behind on my fluids. Anyway, I'm so happy to finally be home. I'm gonna keep drinking fluids like it's my job. I also wanted to add a couple of things people may find helpful: First, if you are out of surgery and having trouble tolerating plain water, try a flavored water. I never was much of a fan of flavored water pre-op, but it helped me so much after surgery. Second, if you are having bouts of nausea, ask the nurse for some alcohol prep pads (the ones they swipe you with before you get an injection), place it under your nose and keep inhaling. This may seem strange, but it kills nausea and worked great while I was waiting for my IV nausea meds to be administered. I hope my story didn't scare anyone off. Everyone responds to anesthesia differently, I guess I'm one of the unfortunate people who have a hard time with it. I also hear for most people the first night is by far the worst, and that was definitely the case for me. I started feeling much better by the next morning. Good luck to everyone!

Hey everyone! Just checking in. I noticed there are 2008, 2009 and soon to be 2010 bandsters! Can you believe we've had our bands this long? I'm still glad I have this band (even though I didn't lose what I thought I would). It has helped me so much in losing what I did, helped me maintain now during pregnancy, and I can't wait until breastfeeding time when my metabolism gets to kick in, I can get a fill, and really go to town. (Sorry, TMI guys? haha) Anyway, I know I would weigh a lot more at this point if I hadn't had the band. Take care everyone.

I remember. :smile2: I lurk around now again - generally don't have much interesting to say (unless you count my post in the 20's forum about getting naked with a new partner...LOL...that will probably be more TMI than what you said, Linda). I'm not where I imagined I would be by now, either. Around about the time I STOPPED my very quick downward slope on the weight-loss was because I filed for divorce. The emotional strain was just too much. I eat my emotions. Yep, still do. The times when I've gone overboard with it (eating past the point of fullness because I was trying to drown the feelings), I have PAID the price. Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch...more ouch. Hopefully I remember the pain next time I think THAT was a good idea. Two more months to our 2nd Bandiversary, huh? Well, I'm bound and determined to be well within "normal" range for my height by then according to my BMI. I still want to lose 37 more lbs total, but I have 8 to go to be "normal." I got lazy with my weight loss over the past year. I'd eat well sometimes, others not so much. The band has ALWAYS been a Godsend, however. Whatever the lowest weight is that I get to, I cannot for the life of me gain more than 10 lbs over that. So that has been fantastic and I'm grateful everyday for that. The past couple of months, I started buckling down on my fitness. Not so much my diet. I didn't limit WHAT I ate, but I did my best to make "better" choices. But I didn't guilt myself if I wanted a piece of pie or some chocolate, or whatever. The key is - I've been working out like a maniac for two months. Got down to the lowest I had been (which is recorded on this board in the "list"), and then one lb further than that. And was stuck. So the past several days I've forced myself to low carb in addition to the working out...and I'm down another lb. My goal is to low-carb it for the next two weeks (until the 1st). I'm going on a vacation with the new (very hot!) boyfriend and I wanted to look my best. :smile2: I don't want to worry about carbs on a vacation, but will really do my best to not overdo it with sugar. When I get back, I'll probably get back on low carb for a bit...don't know how long. I've used low carb in the past to blast off the lbs, but I think the body starts to build a tolerance to it and an INtolerance to any kind of carbs, which is not good when you want to go back to eating like a normal person. So I basically plan to only use it for jumpstarts...kind of like getting me off the plateau I was on (it worked like a charm). All-in-all, I'm happy with my band. I'm coming to peace with the fact that I haven't lost ALL that I thought I would have lost by now. But I'm learning the value of hard work and determination when it comes to shaping my body. I bike 75 total miles a week, I run 15.8 total per week, swim about a mile and a half, and do a kickboxing class. I'm stoked about all the fitness things that I was NEVER able to attain when I was 66 lbs heavier than I am now. Sorry for the long post. Figured I'd give an update on one of your member lurkers and share some of the insights/experiences I've had over the past two years. You guys are great - I keep an eye on what you're doing.

nightmares about food
SnohoGal98296 replied to jaysleever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I used to dream about raw meat when I was pregnant, it was awful because it would make me sick, I would wake up gagging. Thankfully i never puked in bed! ( sorry tmi) I think this is the brain trying to find out why we don't eat that thing anymore, it gave us so much pleasure, maybe we just need a reminder? Darn pleasure centers! Oh I didn't crave raw meat while I was pregnant, I could barely stand it because I could smell it at 100 yds! (LOL) And I am a serious meat eater! So far no weird dreams about the surgery, I am in for my last consult this week then the hit the ground running on my tests and hoped to be sleeved in March. I am sure I will have a few weird dreams before this is over! -
female only Really Personal Question - TMI - Incontinence?
Nikkoli110 posted a topic in The Gals' Room
I really have no place to ask this, I'm super embarassed, and have been on webmd all night, and I feel so weird! First off, I'm 24, and in the testing stages before lapband. For a while, I've always had that "need to pee NOW" issue. A few times, I've accidently slightly peed my pants on the way to the bathroom, before I could get my pants down. Now tonight for the first time since I was say, maybe 4, I peed my pants, like, totally. Thank God I was outside and no one saw it. I've had some tiny pain in my lower abdomen, but I have IBS and I've had ovarian cysts my whole life, and I've kind of gotten used to it. I'm going to be calling my doc on Monday and trying to get in right away, but I just feel totally ashamed, astonished, and embarased. I'm only 24, I would think, ok maybe if I've had a baby, thats expected, maybe if I was much older, than its ok, but I'm 24?? I just was wondering if there is anyone on here who has ever had the issue or has any advice, I just don't have anywhere to ask this because I'm so embarrased! Thanks for listening! -
Birth Control Pills Ok To Swallow?
gottobeme replied to akurre12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe it's just me and the fact that I use and IUD (sorry TMI) but you would think doctors and their support staff would think to tell people about these things!!! I mean jeez, they don't want people getting pregnant for a year or so afterwards so you would think this should be at the top of their list of things to discuss with potential patients! -
Being financially prudent does not count as chickening out. If you are concerned about the future of your finances, then it is absolutely the right decision to wait on the tummy tuck. If, however, your decision is motivated by a concern about the recovery, then as someone who has had the procedure, I would encourage you to continue to think about it. I have had literally pretty much every body procedure you can have in the body contouring scope of plastic surgery and the TT is far and away the one that I am most consistenly in awe of the results. The worst part about the TT was that it was really hard to actually get out of bed for a few weeks, since you can't really do any form of sit-up motion. (also- TMI here, the first week, pooping was fairly evil when your ab muscles are all stitched together). Overall, as long as you are financially comfortable, don't chicken out on the procedure, but if you are unsure about the future, then being a responsible, financially secure adult is not even remotely considered chickening out

Well here I am 6 days post op! Got home from TJ yesterday. Today was my first day if feeling really week and blah. Been in bed pretty much all day. I was running around like crazy in TJ post surgery. We walked to the mall and around there and other little trips like that. Got up this morning and made my daughter, niece, and nephew pancakes and had a cup of Jello and felt like I had been run over. My sister is here with her kids for the weekend helping me so I just went back to bed. Also had horrible diahhrea today, first time that happened. Sorry TMI. Got on scale yesterday when we got home, down 5 pounds which doesn't surprise me being on liquids only. I've been drinking/eating full calorie Gatorade, jello, and broth to get some calories in me. Once I can start eating food I will change to all sugar free, zero cal drinks. Can't wait to start on full liquids tomorrow. pudding and Protein shakes yay! I definitely have the desire to eat but I'm not hungry. My body wants to eat for the energy and I'm just used to it! I almost took a bite of my kid's pancake out if habit! Wasn't thinking and put it to my mouth. Realized just before I ate it what I was doing. Still tender and sore where incisions are. Took bandages off so they can breathe now. Bought some Maderma for the scars. Have to wait until they are fully healed to use Maderma but that stuff works! I used it on a previous surgery scar on my stomach and it cleared up the scar in 3 months. That scar was much larger than these tiny incisions. Well I'm going to get up, shower, and take the kids on a short walk.

Which Doctors In Mexico Will Also Take Out Gall Bladder At The Same Time?
slvrsax replied to Proud2BMe's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I just had mine out here in the US a few weeks ago. Ariel Ortiz did my sleeve last December but I never asked re: gall bladder. I didn't want to push my luck. My surgeon who took it out said that there was a stone in it almost as large as my gall bladder itself (I know TMI) and there was no way that my weight loss caused my stones - that they had been forming for a number of years. The recovery was fine. Funny, I had terrible gas pains after gall bladder removal, but not after my sleeve. Go figure I'm 3 weeks out of gall bladder surgery and will be returning to cardio tomorrow, but no weights for a few more weeks. -

So I told a white lie...
Marie from Michigan replied to imawhodat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also told most of my work colleagues that I was having surgery to repair a hernia (which was true). I had been having severe stomach issues related to the hernia in the weeks prior to surgery (TMI Alert - I was leaving meetings to vomit) so this explanation was readily accepted. Only a few people (including my direct supervisor) knew about the WLS. Since I have lost a considerable amount of weight some people might have put the two things together by now. Who knows! -
Hello. I am having a more difficult time than I anticipated. Honestly I think it's more the nausea from the pain med so I have eased back. I get gassy and the burps really hurt coming up. Sorry tmi. My nurse has been amazing so that helps. Going to try to sleep without the pain meds and see how I feel when I wake up. I can't believe this day actually came!

Vitamin B12
Cherishthepast replied to Cherishthepast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The shots are part of my Dr's program. Of course the patient can decline taking the shot; however, I want every advantage available to me. Initially, the Dr insists that you take the OTC B12 supplements along with the Multivitamin, and Calcium citrate for the first 3 months after banding - yesterday marked 3 months (few days shy); I'll continue to take the Vitamins and calcium citrate. I feel wonderful - I woke up bright and early this morning w/an actual smile on my face - this coming from someone who's typically not a morning person. I'm not feeling sluggish - my norm. If this is the result of taking B12, I'm definately going to continue. TMI - between my hormone patch and the B12 I feel like a new me. -
TMI potty talk coming at you...
theladyslipper posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, I'm almost at 2 months post-sleeve & the constipation has been a bit#%! I use miralax, colace twice a week & I eat 4 prunes 3-4 times a week. STILL, it's been a little difficult to fully relieve in that department. (I warned you it was TMI...faint of heart abort reading now). I actually day-dreamed about the dumping syndrome & explosive diarrhea thinking...the shaking & sweating sounded awful, but to fully relieve my bowels without a BATTLE in the BATHROOM, didn't sound too bad. Well, thankfully, I haven't experience dumping yet b/c it sounds absolutely terrible. I have actually thanked God EVERY single time I've gotten to go #2 since the procedure--I'm talking "Praise you Jesus!" & "Thank you for allowing me to have a bowel movement!" whether it was fully relieving the bowels or not. I'm the grateful type--in this department, somes better than none & nearly ever bathroom visit has been like a mild form of child labor. WORK. Well, I've gotten a sinus infection--taking antibiotic, probiotics & a few other things which has caused me to have diarrhea. TMI approaching. It's been some of the greatest times. I'm drinking more to make sure I don't get dehydrated & I VERY begrudgingly took Imodium to be safe on the hydration thing. So today, I'm very thankful for diarrhea & the gift of fully emptied bowels. Now, I feel very unladylike for such a post, but keeping it real[emoji372][emoji372][emoji372] -
Literally Just Got Started On My Journey And I Am A Bundle Of Nerves!
Lissa replied to beautifulnewme2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! A whole thread of newbies! Welcome everyone!! You can find lots of information here about VSG and almost any question you can think of has probably been asked here, including the TMI questions! It's normal to be excited and nervous before the surgery, but there are tons of surgery stories here. There are also tons of posts from people who were scared or nervous before surgery. It's normal, but you are all on a journey to a whole new life! I was one who had lots of medical complications before surgery and I feel like I've been reborn since having VSG. This board is my support group because my IRL one just doesn't do much for me. I hope it will be a great place for each of you to receive encouragment as well!! Again, welcome to VST! Nope, I'm not the welcoming committe...just another member working my way to goal! -
Okay ladies, I have a female question for you. I have read some posts of ladies that had not had their periods for awhile prior to surgery but started them back up after their surgery. Has the opposite happened to anyone? I started my last period the day after surgery (2/19). I had it for 7 days but now I am 22 days late (and there is NO WAY I'm preggos). I'm only 40 years old so I hope that I'm not starting early menopause. Up until now, I have been pretty normal (been off birth control for over a year now). Anyone else had this happen? If so, how long until you started back up?

Pre op diet misery, cheat and allergies
Butterflywarrior posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So my sleeve surgery is Monday but my very limited pre op diet of seven days gas been awful. I knew aspartame gave me mugraines so avoided that ingredient but got primere with sucralose and popsicles with the same as well as crystal light pure made with truvia which is stevia and a sugar alcohol My tummy has been hurting every day. I finally ate a bite of my mom's veggie omelette and was told if my blood sugar went hypo I could eat yogurt so my blood sugar wasn't quite hypo and I had nonfat Greek honey yogurt. Sure felt better but felt so guilty for cheating and like hope I'm not messing up my stomach prep for surgery Last night after crystal light pure, I threw up once with six episodes all this foamy stuff. Sorry tmi. Number two s been all the runs as well so called weight clinic nurse and they are having me quit all artificial sweeteners as they and I feel they are the culprit and allowing me Protein powder...found one with 25grams of protein and sweet with stevia which is a nature made plant and I can have it in skim milk!!!! Yay So stomach is already way happier and tge Protein Powder taste good not chalky Anyone else with similar problems... cheating, malabsorption??etc?? -
Thank you so much Kathy! I appreciate every word. The thing is I am taking it super easy. I am not working & still feel really weak. I have been having a really bad stomach since surgery. (here is the TMI part- Peeing from both ends for a week) sorry if thats TMI But its making me very weak. I am following the menu to a tee. No substitutes at all. Just feel dizzy sometimes(haven't taken any meds in 3 days except tylenol) & not strong like usual. Thank goodness I see the Doctor on Monday-Hopefully he can drain this thing. Anyhow Now I am complaining-sorry I just expected to be complication free. I guess the bright side is I have lost 7 pds in the past week. So I am 14 down. Just can't wait to feel like me again;0) P>S> I am sure I wouldn't be so cranky if my back hadn't been out for two weeks prior to surgery, I think thats whats making it worse. thanks for the kind words. I know it will be better Monday
