How do you guys deal with the conundrum of being thirsty and hungry?
ShoppGirl replied to Penguin733's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For one thing that may help you a little bit I have a proffee for breakfast (just protein shake with coffee over ice) I mix in my fiber powder and have my my multivitamin after I finish it so every morning I’m well hydrated. My tummy feels satisfied and I have my protein and vitamins off to a good start for the day. I didn’t eat actual food so I have no problem drinking afterwards. everyone’s stomach reacts a little differently and some can’t handle a lot of fluids, but mine can. Maybe something like that would help if you had that or soup maybe for lunch so you could drink more with it?? Just thinking out loud. -
They have done so much cottage cheese. It’s delicious! High protein too!

Hey everyone, In 2019 I made one of the best, most life changing decisions when I decided to get sleeved. After my sleeve I lost 92 lbs, felt amazing, and promised myself I’d never allow myself to go back to my starting point. Well, here I am 5 years later and I’m so ashamed I’ve regained the majority of the weight I’ve lost. I regained about 25 lbs before having my beautiful son but I began really struggling with my weight after having him. I’m considering having revision surgery and scheduled an appointment with a doctor to go over my options but unfortunately they don’t have any appointments available until mid October so I’m just left here with my thoughts wondering if this is the right decision for me. I guess im just here looking for some insight on the process, the success others have had with revisions or lack of, the good the bad the ugly lol. I was definitely excited at the thought of regaining control of my weight until someone asked me why I felt I deserved another chance when I messed up the first one, then adding in that it would be selfish to not consider my son before choosing to go under where anything can happen and that the more traditional way of weight loss is still an option. I tried to explain that wls is a tool to be used in addition to traditional diet and exercise but I don’t feel the need to over explain my decision, especially to those who aren’t my immediate family. I will say though I never thought about it as me being selfish until they mentioned it and now that comment weighs heavy on my heart. Anyway I guess I’m here to just gain some insight from anyone who is kind enough to share their experience. I have to say I’m both ashamed and disappointed in myself.

Thanks for posting! I just bought the gastric sleeve cookbook! I have my 2 week appt with the nutritionist on Friday and I cannot wait to start the purée stage! I am so tired of surviving on protein shakes! -
On your plate. The fruit and veggies section is more protein. Need balance. I think i would go back to basics for a week.. 1 cup breakfast lunch dinner. Replace one meal with a protein shake. Reboot your mind and follow the post op plan for a guide.

"Gym" is not a dirty word

I've been okayed to have some soups as long as they don't have big chunks and the milk is supposed to include skim milk powder. I have been adding a scoop of protein powder so that i'm more full a bit longer and helps with getting protein in. It's not much extra calories. I have always ridden my bike everywhere to so because of the exercise, I'm still getting about 1200 calories -

I am a baby in my journey 10months today actually, but I reached my goal weight at 6months and I creeped down a touch more for about another month. I have maintained +/- 3lbs for the past 3ish months. I track every single day (eating 1700-2000cal a day), I prioritize protein (hit 150-200g a day) although lately its more like 225g of protein and that is WAY too much my stomach hurts lol so I am adjusting, keeping fat low (under 90) keeping carbs under 200g. I lift heavy (3 days lower and 2 days) along with cardio (running, incline walks, stair master), then 1 day where I do 40min HIIT work out then 30min of cardio. I have 1 rest day. I meal prep every week so all my meals M-F from pre-workout snack down to my last snack before dinner is prepped and tracked. I know what's for dinner every day as I make sure to plan for those. All the food I make is now lower in fat, higher in protein and the family doesn't even notice! Weekends I "indulge" I still track but notice I do not eat as much those days. I eat protein ice cream using my Ninja Creami or sneak in a few bites of my hubby's Ben and Jerrys. I do eat chips, fries, lettuce wrapped burgers, fried chicken **gasp!!** very small amounts but I do not deprive myself. This is a LIFESTYLE change not a diet. So I wanna go buck wild and get back to where I was but I also don't want to be a bird and never enjoy all the yummy treats. MODERATION IS KEY!! Eat healthy 85-90% and stay active, you won't have any issues! -

I’m pretty sure dry skin can also be from l not enough protein I’m using my phone so I’m not sure which surgery you had but if it’s bypass and increasing, your fluids, doesn’t work consider whether you just need more protein than the average bypass or if your activity is high, talk to your team, but they told me I needed to increase my protein because of my level of activity. Also, if your activity is really high, you may actually need to increase your carbohydrates. I would definitely talk to your team about your activity and your food intake. I know that increasing carbs sounds scary and counterproductive, but I’ve been on here for about four years now and a lot of people found that when they exercise level was high their body thought it was starving and was hanging onto everything until they increased their calories and then it started dropping so I would definitely ask if that could be an issue. Daughter it’s just the three weeks stop which isn’t exactly at three weeks, but it does happen to pretty much everyone. -
Finally on the other side!

I've been burping and farting so I think the gas isn't trapped athough I decided to take the lactulose now to try and nip the constipation in the bud now. The most "pleasant" meds that I take have been the lactulose and the blood thinning subcutaneous injections. Everything else has made me feel awful or tasted bad and made me want to sip water which I can't do right after the meds. My favourite Vieve Protein Water still tastes good to me so I'm trying to switch between sips of that and regular water too. Since the multivitamin made me throw up, my team said I can try a two a day chewable instead and see if that helps, but like everyone else said, just prioritise fluids and protein if possible. -

Fixed myself a small bowl of sugar free belgian chocolate ice cream (it’s super good), I crushed one pistachio chocolate protein ball on top and 3 roasted salted cashews. Had exactly 3 bites (mainly the protein ball and cashews) and started feeling sick and passed it to the hubby. I don’t even know how many calories I ate Lol. -

Yea. I eat five times a day. Well technically breakfast is a shake with coffee so that’s drinking but I have two meals and two snacks. Takes that much to reach my protein goal unless I just ate meat and eggs all day -

One week post op and feeling scared about never having favorite foods again
Cassafrass83 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi all! New to the forum and this site. So, I just had roux en y gastric bypass on Monday, and I'm feeling a bit lost, scared, and anxious. I'm so worried I'll never be able to enjoy some of my favorite foods again. I guess I didn't realize that gastric bypass was so restrictive. My Dr recommend it because I have trouble with heartburn and said this would be a good option. I guess I'm just looking for encouragement - if I know I can have some of my favorite foods at some point down the road, I'd feel a lot better, but everything I look up seems like I can never eat again. Do any of you have experience eating any of the following foods sparingly, or are they gone from my life forever? Tacos, mac and cheese, ice cream, chips and queso or guac, falafel, pad thai? Please know I am aware these are not healthful food choices and my love for these foods got me to where I am today, but can I ever eat them again in any capacity? Thanks for your kindness to this emotionally struggling newbie. I'm scared I made the wrong choice and just reaching out to the void for people who have experienced these panicky feelings. Thanks! -

Some of these are very easily made much more nutritious. Guac isn’t bad to begin with. It’s higher fat so it may be reserved for once your in maintenance depending on your macro allowance. Chips and queso you can do quest protein chips with cottage cheese queso. It’s actually pretty good and tacos I do with lean turkey meat and low carb wraps or as a salad. I use 2a% cheese and fresh pico de gallo. It’s surprisingly delicious. -
Broth with unflavored protein gel supplement.
PositiveMom replied to JanineMMM's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I just bought Bone Broth with added protein for my upcoming surgery. It was either from Amazon or Walmart.com. -
For Protein Shakes already made: Premier Protein- they have really good flavors. Every single morning I drink the caffee latte with a decaf cold brew. start my day with 30g protein. For a powder: Isopure the dutch chocolate or the vanilla For Protein Bars: RxBar or Fulfil I have tried A LOT! and these are the best for me
-
I’ll have to try those! Anything to help keep my protein up and calories down!

Proffee is just coffee and protein shake. I like mine iced with the premiere protein caramel shake. Someone in another forum just shared with me that the Walmart brand shakes taste just the same as premiere protein and I bought some today but haven’t tried them yet. It’s $1.50 cheaper for 4 so hopefully they are good. 🤞

Reactive Hypoglycaemia
ShoppGirl replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I doubt I will ever know if I have it because I eat round the clock 🤣 . Sounds horrible though. Do you just get busy and forget or is it that you do not have anything with you?. I keep a protein bars in my purse in case I get stuck out and they have saved the day quite a few times. Even little nut butter packets would work in a pinch. I also have them little cracker sandwich packets in my car for absolute emergencies since they can get hot and be okay and they last a really long time. Of course that’s not a very nutritious choice. If it’s the former maybe set alarms. I have them set as recurring alarms in my phone that repeat everyday. I really find that eating on a schedule works best for me. I don’t think I could ever get all my protein in if I didn’t. -

More liquid salad. (Zuppa tuscana with zucchini added). And my meals for today. I also had some broccoli cheese soup and a special k protein bar for lunch at work. I’ll have rest of the broccoli soup and salad for dinner when I get home. -
What do you mean. Did you reach your goal and start to regain or is it something else? I see you are about 40 pounds from your goal now so it certainly seems doable to turn it around if it’s regain. My first piece of advice as someone who regained all their weight and just had revision surgery a week ago is to reach out to your team. My second step would be to reach out for support here or otherwise and you have already done that. I did neither because I was too embarrassed and you can see where that led me. When I finally did reach out to them I wished I had done it sooner because they treated me with nothing but compassion and just wanted to help. For me the only real option was revision but you should have plenty others. My guess is their first plan of attack will be to go back to the basics. Reading labels, Logging your food and counting macros. Protein first, smaller portions and reaching your fluid goals. Seems like from your profile you are pretty active anyways but trying to Incorporate more activity if that has slipped a little. Just go back to it like you are just out of surgery. Well past the staged return to eating I guess but fairly early out anyways. Some people even start with the “pouch reset” Of a liquid diet for a week or two although most say that there is no real evidence that does much to reset anything. Make an appointment with your team now and start logging what you are doing for a week or so giving them a starting point and let them advise you of what you need to work on. There are other options now if diet alone is not enough but if you enjoy healthy eating anyways its likely portion size has increased a little more than you realize and that’s something you should be able to change. Once you do figure it out try to make changes one at a time if necessary to make them more manageable. Set lots of small goals to keep yourself motivated But most importantly keep reaching out to your support networks such as posting here as well as keeping in touch with your team. Your sleeve is still there. It will be a little harder than it was the first time but people have certainly done it. You have already taken the first steps Of recognizing the issue and reaching out here just keep taking steps and before you know it you will be losing again. Keep us Posted on any ups and downs so we can cheer you on. You can do it!!

Recipe Needed for Spaghetti Sauce Please.
Arabesque replied to ShoppGirl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
No I can’t do pasta or rice so I’ll have zucchini noodles if I want a pasta-like experience. Otherwise I just have the sauce (with whatever protein) alone. PS I planted my basil in a pot on my deck. Have chives & parsley too. You can keep the pot in a sunny spot in your kitchen too. -
Looking to have surgery and having difficulty getting approved
Calliegerl posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since 2014 I have been gaining weight. I've gained 75 pounds. I was 150 at 5'7 inches tall and at that time I was relatively inactive but ate normally. A decade later I'm 225 and 34 and have not been able to lose. I cut out sugar, I joined a gym and got a dietician three years ago. I have still gained ten pounds per year. I've been tested for PCOS, Cushing's and Thyroid disorders and they have found no evidence. I eat less now than I did ten years ago. I love in Canada and rely on government healthcare. They won't approve me for gastric bypass. They gave me ozempic last year and it was a nightmare and worsened my IBS. I didn't lose weight I gained another 12 pounds on that drug. I'm out of options. This has basically destroyed my life. I haven't dated in ten years. Tried to commit suicide twice three years ago. The weight gain never stops. It's awful. I'm not doing it to myself. I don't over eat. I exercise, I go to the gym, I don't eat sugar and I just butt. It's a cruel joke this life. -
