    Question from a pre-op

Some things i bought and tolerated prior to surgery i couldnt stomach after. I have purchased multiple protein powders i couldnt stand as well as broth that i couldnt get down. I just purchased a tasteless protein powder that mixes well and you only need 1tbs to get in 30g. Genepro from amazon.

Hiking & Camping VSG Food Ideas

If you are hiking sounds like you will need beef jerky, trail mix, and light items for food. The GenePro protein powder is about one T. Of powder and would mean x with most anything. I have never hiked, but I loved camping in the motor home. I need a cooler and more than I can carry, so good luck with your hiking!!!!

    Protein Powder?

I am a big fan of inspire (White Chocolate strawberry and Blueberry Cheesecake are my favorites) - followed by Syntrax. For unflavored, GENEPRO is my go-to.
  4. I mostly used genepro and mixed it in to everything. Fairlife is the only premixed shake that doesn't make me nauseous since the surgery.
  5. My tastes changed after surgery and I couldn’t stand the taste of premier protein anymore. I tried a few others and now I love Iconic Protein. That’s been helping me get my protein levels back up. I also use Genepro unflavored protein powder and can mix that into anything.

    Best whey protein powder

I like the unflavored onion powder from Genepro, as an alternative to other flavored powders. You can mix it with anything hot or anything cold. I got mine from Amazon I'm sorry I hit the send button too soon it's unflavored powder not unflavored onion powder. Sorry

    Genepro - 3rd generation?

Following. I just drug out what's left of my old bag of unflavored Genepro in hopes of upping my protein to break my month long stall. I also went onto their website because I may need to purchase more and also noticed the new stuff. Curious if anyone has tried it.
  8. I am 8 days out of pre-op and below is my experience Things I bought pre-op or immediately after that I use frequently Wedge pillow for when you get home. I ordered the day I got home because I couldn't sleep flat anymore sugar free popsicles benefiber biotene mouth spray, used that in the hospital and for a few days out, saved me. carmex lip balm 5 oz anchor measuring cup water bottle with measurements on it. Torini sugar free syrups...for decaf coffee ice cube tray - for freezing broth popsicle trays - for making your own as store bought have more carbs and calories than you realize store bought bone broths for in a pinch. Not chicken stock, Bone Broth Blender - I had this but I use this 2 x a day for the protein shakes Make sure you have extra protein like genepro to blend in to help you meet your protein goals Silly, but a basket, notepad, designated for all of your post up meds plenty of loose flowey dresses beach coverups - lucky i had a bunch but you won't want to wear a lot of clothes Loose panties subscription to myfitness pal or a good old notebook to document your liquids and proteins and everything I hate water so I need water enhancers, I used publix brand or great value brand orange soy milk - i discovered the lactose doesn't agree with me so I had to buy soy milk get your mani/pedi before because you will be wearing flip flops and not feel like bending over for sneakers Things I bought that I didn't use. I bought a kitchen scale then realized my program does not want me to use a food scale, only measuring cups 100 1.5 oz medicine cups - never used them..I thought I would track my fluid intake this way...ummm..no.. almond creamer, just don't like it Miralax..didn't need it, the colace and benefiber helps me "go"
  9. I'm three months out and still struggle to get enough Protein and drink enough fluids. Before my surgery I could drink 7 or 8 bottles of Water in a day. Now I force myself to drink one. I have found out I can drink decaf coffee, sugar free hot chocolate, tomato juice, etc better than water. I found a product available at Walmart, Meijer, & Amazon called New whey. It has 42g of protein in only 3.8oz of liquid. I like the fruit punch flavor. It's much easier to get less than 4oz down than 12oz. It is kind of expensive at $14.99 for 6. My doctor just recommended a product called GENEPRO available on Amazon. One tablespoon is 30 grams of protein and it is unflavored. He says mix it with a drink or oatmeal or Soup and I will never taste it. It gets very good reviews. I'm going to try it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Sleeved 09.08.2015 - An easy way to get your protein in is to use Genepro protein powder. 30gm per tbsp! Tasteless and mixes with hot or cold. I buy mine on Amazon.

    Genepro Protein?

@@LittleBill Study the clinical trials about prohydrolase and how enzymes help Protein absorption and make it more bioavailable. The point is, it doesn't matter if you eat 100000 g protein if the majority of it isn't absorbed or if they spike it with crap. Several top protein companies have been sued for protein spiking, GENEPRO has not been one of them. There are other companies like Nutricia where 2 T equal 15 g of hydrolyzed collagen protein and yet it has tons of other ingredients like Malic acid, Glycerin and a zillion other things plus the protein... Yet it's only 2T. It's far too simplistic to debate on purely a weight to weight argument concerning protein. The gist is the stability of the protein and bioavailability, and many other complex factors. Having said that, as I stated above, I am a nerdy scientist, and my day job is consulting Protein purification (mainly column chromatography) and analysis techniques, and I don't want to work on Christmas hehe... So I will stop here concerning Genepro. Believe what you want. ^^ Have a great and fun day <3. @@Alex Brecher Thank you for the clinical trial link! I wish I could be part of it. I've been thinking of sending this past year's lab reports to show my total protein, albumin results to them.

    Genepro Protein?

I use GENEPRO because it works for me. I can't smell it or taste it and my labs have been fabulous so far. I only need my subset of 1 to be successful, so in my study, it's 100% effective

    Looking Forward to May

Genepro protein is 30 grams of protein tasteless
  15. So I'm on the puréed/soft phase and made several recipes I saw on here and they have been great. But today I made one myself.... chicken artichoke spinach cups 1 -12 oz can of chicken breast 1/2 cup quartered artichokes (chop fine) 1 tbs minced garlic Pepper to taste 1 cup spinach raw (chopped fine) 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1/2 cup light sour cream 1 scoop GENEPRO Protein powder Heat the chicken in a skillet and make sure it's shredded. Add garlic and chopped up artichokes (I use a food processor). Then add chopped spinach and mix well. While heating, mix parm cheese, Protein Powder and sour cream (I use a food processor). Remove chicken mix from heat, stir in cheese mixture. Once well combined, place 1/2 cup mixture into lined muffin pan...repeat for total of 4 muffin cups. You can eat it fresh or freeze for 3 hrs and remove, placing each in freezer bag. Then reheat as needed. Each muffin cup is a serving: 206 cal, 30g protein, 8g fat, 5g carbs It was so yummy!
  16. Genepro is good. It is almost tasteless and 1tbsp is 30 grams of protein.

    Mixing two proteins

There are lots of products on the dietary supplement market that don't do anything except lighten your wallet, but since they don't do anything demonstrably harmful, there is no regulatory reason for them to be pulled off the market. Think of all of the advertised "male enhancement" products that are sold. While Genepro may not be a scam, it checks all of the boxes of being a typical nutritional supplement scam - it's too good to be true (30g of "equivalent" - whatever that is - protein in only 15g of product, and with fewer calories than 30g of real protein!) nobody quite knows what it really is, and they aren't saying, and there is no independent testing of their claims. It may not be harmful - particularly for their target market of normal westerners who already get adequate protein in their diet - but for those who are struggling to get in a minimal amount of protein, it isn't worth the risk. Go with a known quantity that is well documented and accepted - whey isolate, concentrate or blends, pea, soy, egg, etc. It may be legitimate product, but they sure aren't marketing it like it is.

    Mixing two proteins

Genepro is crap. The company has been sued at least twice and just lost the most recent one. There is no such thing as "medical grade protein". It's whey. They came out and said it is just predigested whey that gets absorbed very quickly. It is not equivalent to 30g, it is at best 10g. The best thing to do with that crap is just chuck it in the trash. Yes it is on the bariatric store, but that is a store. It sole purpose is to sell things people will buy. And people buy Genepro because they want to believe it, not because it works. To your original question, mix your protein powders however you like. Whey, casein, pea, or soy... doesn't matter. It's no different than having a salad with chicken on top. There are some benefits to mixing proteins. BCAA content, absorption rate, bio-availability... experimentation in with this should be encouraged. And don't worry about taking in more than 30g-ish of protein at a time. RickM stated it well. You will absorb the protein eventually.

    Sept. 8th & 9th Gastric Bypass surgery.

My Dr. is amazing! His entire office even went on a two week liquid diet drinking only the Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement Shakes just so they could better understand their patients! Right now I'm looking for a better protein powder. The BA kind is like loose mud, and unappetizing! I also have Iso-Pure unflavored, but it has a medicinal quality that leaves me gagging. I've heard good things about Genepro, and may give it a try soon.

    Sept. 8th & 9th Gastric Bypass surgery.

AngelicHG7 Maybe I'll stick with Carnation Breakfast It was bad and my protein drinks. I made a shake with the triple chocolate powder, Silk dark chocolate milk,Hershey powder (zero sugar),sugar-free Hershey syrup(I used the regular before it got serious) and ice. It was pretty good. How is that protein? Genepro I was going to order that as well. I believe that it hold up better than Unjury unflavored.
  21. I am prepping some 2 ounce containers for my post-op clear liquids phase. I grew tired of messing with Jello and found that I could dissolve a half scoop of Genepro in a small amount of chicken broth. The total slurry mix fits within the 2 ounce container. That would give me 15 grams of protein per serving, which is WAY more than I doctor up with my Jello attempts. Perhaps a chemist could do better, but I am done. Any reason not to do this? I have 2 containers chilling in the refrigerator now as a test run. I assume it will separate a bit, but I could just shake it. I really like the taste of the broth and don't expect the Genepro to mess with the flavor, but I know the consistency must thicken a bit. Thoughts? Thanks!

    January 2023 Surgery Buddies!

I had a VSG on 01/06/23. I loss 38 lbs since the pre-op liquid phase. I consume 800-1000 calories a day and aim for 80+ grams of protein a day. I feel good. I haven't had any issues with any foods. Well except that I cannot tolerate protein shakes at all so I rely on protein rich foods. I can also tolerate unflavored Genepro in my Crystal Light and some protein bars.

    Update on OCt sleevers.....

Surgery 10/18 and started puree this Thursday and eating is freaking me out. I've tried yogurt, cottage cheese, lentil soup and Saturday I tried premade pouch tuna salad. I assumed the nausea I was experiencing was from my cancer meds but maybe it's from the surgery too. Today was the first time I didn't lose over night. Trying not to freak out. I finally found a way to get all the Protein in..... flavorless GENEPRO in sugar free pudding (1tblsp = 30g) Still in muscular pain from the surgery and exercise is still difficult but I'm building up every day. I do see the loss in clothes. Mostly shirts as my abdomen is still kind is swollen. I did make the ricotta bake but found myself eating too much. Anyone else having trouble determining full.... at first with liquids I figured it out right away. Now I can't really tell which scares me. Sent from my SGH-T999 using the BariatricPal App
