  1. I tried to emulate what I buy at the juice bar in LA Fitness Gym. Didn't work out well. It tasted good, but turned into a drink, more than a shake/smoothie. I need some ideas on how to "fluff" it up or other input. The PB and or cocoa powder powder also ended up "bubbling" at the top even after mixing. Ice also just disappeared as soon as I used the immersion blender on low. My chocolate PB "drink" 2 tbsp choc PB2 1 tbsp Ghirardelli cocoa 1 scoop GENEPRO Protein Powder flavorless (not the think bully whey type powder, this is "miconized" 8oz fat free milk, 3/4 cup ice cubes from machine 1 tbsp pure maple Syrup (too bitter without) 261 cal, 35g carb (28g sugar, 12 from milk) 3g fat, 43g Protein. Less PB2 powder? Less cocoa powder? More ice ratio? Thicker milk (fattier?) Sent from my XT1609 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Genepro protein!

I'm 2 weeks post op. I mix genepro with about two ounces of coffee and one cup of fairlife chocolate milk. I love it. It tastes like an iced mocha and gives me 43 grams of protein. And it's not sickly sweet or thick like protein shakes.

    Carbohydrates

Doc told me to shoot for 90-100 grams of protein. The vast majority of that is coming from protein supplements (I use Genepro powder) but I'm getting the rest from food. For example, lunch today was 2.5 oz of grilled Mahi Mahi and about 4 small bites of a baked potato. All in all I've had 17g of carbs so far today.
  4. I am 2 weeks out and I'm feeling good but I'm not able to get in all 120 mg of the Protein that I'm needing. I sip Water and Gatorade all day can't finish one in a day this is really troubling I'm not even hungry I eat Jello a lot I'm tired of jello I can start my soft foods tomorrow so hopefully I can get more protein in with that. I ordered GENEPRO protein to make the size of protein to go in the food or drink and not change the consistency. Any other ideas on getting in protein?? Help me!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. I'm vegetarian too. The number I was told was at least 65g of protein - which still seems like a lot. This last week I have been able to get over 100g consistently by pumping up my morning shake (I continue to do a protein shake for breakfast because I am not a breakfast person, and have been doing this for years). I use Fairlife milk which has more protein instead of regular skim, a scoop of my protein powder, and add a scoop of Genepro flavourless powder as well. That shake is really filling, and has a tonne of protein. It sets me up for the rest of the day. Anything I can, I add the Genepro to - Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, oatmeal, my bariatricpal chili and curry. The scoops are very small and it dissovles easily if you stir slowly. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K6OSDYA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 My nutritionist also said that it gets easier the further out you get and you don't need these massive amounts of protein forever. You will be able to tweak your macros as you get to maintenance to what works for you.

    Advice

Someone said GenePro. I'm taking the risk and trying it. I'll try almond milk too, good idea! I use fairlife milk, it has 80 calories per 8 oz. And 13 grams of protein vs the typical 8? Less carbs and sugar and lactose free too. At this point I'm so incredibly nauseous it's hard to eat or drink anything that's kind of why I asked (and I'm too lazy to read my original post). I'm struggling with my water and protein and all that is stalling my weight loss! This came out of nowhere, I was fine for almost 5 weeks! Ugh. I just can't do my usual Cabot right now and even shakes and yogurt are bothering my stomach.

    Breakfast ideas

I stick with my protein shake every morning for breakfast. I also add a half of light and fit yogurt along with a scoop of genepro protein. That way I am guaranteed to get at least 64 grams of protein to start the day. The thought of food just doesn't interest me anymore, so this is my go to item for now.

Roll call all who had surgery JUNE 2015

Hello, Hello! I was sleeved on 6/22. I only weigh in on Sundays, and so far I'm down around 28 pounds since June 1st which includes pre-op and post-op. The three ladies who were sleeved with me on the same day at OCC are all down about the same. We would all be classified as 'lower BMI" I believe, so we are pleased. I'm in week one of soft foods. I also find it interesting that a scrambled egg goes down smoothly one day, and then sits like a rock another day. I tried some soft ground turkey this week, and the first two times it was ideal, and then yesterday I had serious stomach pain for about 30 mins, and tried to walk it off (same portion). I am working harder at chewing more, as I have dental issues and have never been a good chewer. This does not come easy for me. I love the taste of Shelley's Baked Ricotta (WorldAccordingtoEggFace), but it doesn't sit well for me yet, maybe because of the acid in the sauce. I am taking Omeprazol as prescribed by my surgeon. I'm also trying some of the phone apps that help with Water reminders, as I continue to struggle to get in more than 32 ounces of Fluid, which is a real no no. Today, I was not allowed to have my yogurt with GENEPRO (which I love), until I drank 16 ounces. That worked! I have a closet full of many sizes, and I have been able to shop there for clothes with tags still on them. I like that people are admiring my "new" work wardrobe rather than commenting on any weight loss. Keep in touch, June Sleevers!

    Best Unflavored Protein Powder?

I have no recommendation for unflavored protein powder, just about anything is decent as long as it is not Genepro. They were just recently successfully sued for their misleading marketing practices. There is not 30 grams of protein in a serving. They used to say that magically compressed the protein then they changed their story to say that it is the equivalent of 30 grams of protein because of the rapid absorption. Here is a better post about it because I don't feel like typing it out all over again"

    VSG on 4/16/18: My journey

I am currently living out of a hotel and I am bored to death. I miss my baby girl and boyfriend, and I am ready to be home with them. Anyhow, the puréed stage is going really well. I’ve had applesauce, oatmeal and puréed chicken tortilla Soup. My surgeon said that he has never heard or seen of a leak after four weeks, so I hit my four weeks next Monday. I have so much anxiety about that, and I know that there are people on here that had later leaks, but I feel like 4 weeks is a good time to stop worrying so much. Outside of that, I did have my first instance of eating too fast. I came up to my hotel room and ordered chicken tortilla soup. It was so good and I ate too fast. Luckily I didn’t eat too much, but I was miserable for a good half hour. Another thing is that I am surprised at how little of an appetite I actually have. I have not been hungry since having the soup (at 2:30), and it is 10:30 now. I just forced myself to have a little applesauce because I am getting so few calories. I can’t do Protein Shakes anymore so I have been depending on GENEPRO this week. I am going to buy some syntrex nectar next week and give that a try. 11. I use genepro. 1 scoop has 30 grams of protein and is flavorless
  12. Thank for this cause I had my surgery Tuesday and I'm hating these protein drinks I got about 15 grams of protein yesterday I will try this Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App I swear by Genepro Unflavored. I put it in my hot tea 3 times a day. 90 grams protien quick and easy. It's not clumpy ( keep temp under 140) no taste no smell. It makes it look milky but I love it. I couldn't drink any powdered or prepared shakes. It caused terrible cramps, diaherra vomiting. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App I too swear by it. But I do think it has a horrible smell. Which is why I mix it with just a shot of milk. I have a very strong sense of smell.....My husband didnt smell or taste anything when in had him try it. I suppose everyone is different. What I really love is that it's a tablespoon instead of a large scoop. But really, I would never have gotten to my protein requirements If not for this stuff. I had literally tried everything! So I do not complain every couple weeks when I go spend the $35 on a canister of it. Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Update on OCt sleevers.....

Surgery 10/18 and started puree this Thursday and eating is freaking me out. I've tried yogurt, cottage cheese, lentil soup and Saturday I tried premade pouch tuna salad. I assumed the nausea I was experiencing was from my cancer meds but maybe it's from the surgery too. Today was the first time I didn't lose over night. Trying not to freak out. I finally found a way to get all the Protein in..... flavorless GENEPRO in sugar free pudding (1tblsp = 30g) Still in muscular pain from the surgery and exercise is still difficult but I'm building up every day. I do see the loss in clothes. Mostly shirts as my abdomen is still kind is swollen. I did make the ricotta bake but found myself eating too much. Anyone else having trouble determining full.... at first with liquids I figured it out right away. Now I can't really tell which scares me. Sent from my SGH-T999 using the BariatricPal App
  14. I used Syntrax Nectar. But the truth is, unflavored isn't flavorless (it's just protein without vanilla or chocolate or whatever added to it), and you are going to taste it, particularly in something really bland like cream of wheat. You'd probably be better off with chocolate or vanilla protein powder in your cream of wheat, since the protein taste is masked. I know a lot of people love Genepro and swear it is tasteless -- I personally think Genepro is a complete scam and if a reputable, independent lab tested it they'd find it was made of talcum powder and ground up houseplants, so I can't recommend it.

I hate that I had this surgery

GENEPRO helped me with this. I added a scoop to my hot decaf tea and a scoop to my broth. I drank both all day. I strained out the noodles from Lipton chicken noodle Soup. I told all my friends in my support group that. It really turned my mind around. 24 hours later I felt much better. I hope your doctors appointment goes well on Monday. I hate protein shakes

Hi @annie93. I have posted the link from this website of the protein powder I use. Its expensive but its 30G of protein per scoop which saves you money in the long run because you get more protein so that you don't have to use more scoops as other brands which have less protein per scoop. Plus I do find that it has no flavor and does not change the taste. The only thing I have noticed is that it does not blend as well in hot items. You have to make a paste with it and then add the hot to it. But it works perfectly in cold or room temperature drinks. You have to mix the protein up really well as soon as you add it to your drink because otherwise if you leave it for a bit it will form little protein flecks. I mix my daily drink at the beginning of the day with 2 1/2 scoops of this particular protein powder and that is my entire protein quota for the day right there. perfect! Buy some and give it a try - I am sure you will be pleased https://store.bariatricpal.com/products/genepro-medical-grade-protein-powder-2nd-generation

    I hate protein shakes

Genepro does not have 30g of protein per scoop. They were actually sued (and lost) for making this (and other) false claims. I would never be comfortable supporting, or ingesting products from a company that is as blatantly deceitful to claim to have 30g of protein in 15g volume.

How's the genepro protein? I just ordered some and should be here soon. I'm having trouble finding an unflavored protein that isn't awful tasting. Also, congratulations on your win! That's exciting.

    Genepro Protein?

I use GENEPRO because it works for me. I can't smell it or taste it and my labs have been fabulous so far. I only need my subset of 1 to be successful, so in my study, it's 100% effective

    Genepro Protein?

@@LittleBill Study the clinical trials about prohydrolase and how enzymes help Protein absorption and make it more bioavailable. The point is, it doesn't matter if you eat 100000 g protein if the majority of it isn't absorbed or if they spike it with crap. Several top protein companies have been sued for protein spiking, GENEPRO has not been one of them. There are other companies like Nutricia where 2 T equal 15 g of hydrolyzed collagen protein and yet it has tons of other ingredients like Malic acid, Glycerin and a zillion other things plus the protein... Yet it's only 2T. It's far too simplistic to debate on purely a weight to weight argument concerning protein. The gist is the stability of the protein and bioavailability, and many other complex factors. Having said that, as I stated above, I am a nerdy scientist, and my day job is consulting Protein purification (mainly column chromatography) and analysis techniques, and I don't want to work on Christmas hehe... So I will stop here concerning Genepro. Believe what you want. ^^ Have a great and fun day <3. @@Alex Brecher Thank you for the clinical trial link! I wish I could be part of it. I've been thinking of sending this past year's lab reports to show my total protein, albumin results to them.
