Hey everyone, I’m finally post-op. Surgery was Wed 7/27, everything was textbook. I have to admit, I’m in a lot more pain than I thought I’d be experiencing. Got rid of the gas okay by day 2, because I walked around a lot and did a lot of deep coughing. I haven’t taken any pain meds, only Tylenol the whole time. And I haven’t drunk anything but water. I’m on the evening of day 2, and my abdomen still hurts a lot. Definitely the big incision on the right side, but also my lower back and side. I feel like I have a stitch in my side almost all the time. Also on day 2, I vomited, I think after the last dose of Zofran wore off. A wave of nausea just came over me really hard, and I threw up. No water, just mucus type stuff? Gross, sorry. It was too late to talk to the surgeon bc it happened after 5pm. I felt better, and haven’t thrown up since. From what I’ve read, it’s pretty common in VSG patients, especially women and those who have severe motion sickness (which I do). Hoping it’s gone away for good.

Yes, I did a full liquid before attempting the clear liquid. Clear liquids aren't as satisfying, but you can also use some of your creamy soups and add more water to qualify as a liquid. My go-to proteins were several different types to keep me from being bored: 1) Keto Chow shakes made with 8 oz unsweetened coconut almond milk 2) Premiere protein shakes 3) Unflavored AGN Roots Grass-fed whey (to put in soups or smoothies) 4) Liquid protein to put into water and my SF jello 5) Power Life High Impact Whey Protein (kinda sweet, so I mix it into coffee or a SF carnation drink mix)

Purpose behind the Post-Op Diet Stages
TayTay5889 replied to KevinS62's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Kevin! Dietitian here. You're correct in that much of this isn't researched and is anecdotal. Clear liquid stage is to help your stomach heal and prevent nausea/heartburn, everything you listed. If you feel like you're tolerating that stage fine, you can move on to the next. Just take baby steps.. start slowly sipping on a protein shake, if you do great try to add something else. If you start to feel queasy, take a step back for a day. It is all subjective and listening to your body. Some of the other things you asked about... corn/grits can be difficult to digest. I'd recommend trying that down the line, maybe 3+ months post-op. Small amount of potatoes is ok. The main concern is that it's just crucial to get your protein- so eat the potatoes last. As you know, you'll fill up on much less food way quicker, so you don't want to fill up on potatoes. Same thing with rice and peas. Rice can also expand in your pouch and make you feel uncomfortably full, so very small bites & chew very well. In our practice you can have scrambled eggs in the pureed stage. Dried fruit isn't advised bc it's a large amount of concentrated sugar- even if sugar isn't added to it. Honey digests the same as white sugar- so you want to avoid, or minimize, it to prevent dumping syndrome. For fish... if you're tolerating other "soft" foods fine, I don't see why you couldn't introduce it sooner. As long as it's tender & flaky. I hope some of this helps! -
Severe Depression during pre-op diet- NORMAL?
jessk0560 replied to jessk0560's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you both for the replies. I have tried to separate myself from my family when they eat but it always seems to end up that I need to make my kiddos food bc her dad is still working, which I can't fault him for that, I know life can't stop because of me. Saturday we went to a catered BBQ birthday party. Having just a bottle of water there was not fun. But I did it. I know I can do it, but gosh this is hard. We are going on a family vacation leaving Thursday (horrible timing but I was supposed to get this done in June but had insurance issues and we already had the trip scheduled thinking I'd be post-op and ready to travel) so I just feel like I need to get out of this funk before I come home on Sunday and pack for the hospital, or more importantly so I don't ruin my families time. I don't want to end up freaking out on the operating table either 😞 Thank you for the support. I'm just a hot mess I suppose 😜 -
So I won the lawsuit against SLIMBAND IN TORONTO how do i collect
Alanjp replied to ppaja60@gmail.com's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Does anybody know if a class action law suit was ever filed against Slimband or the Doctor. I had my surgery done in November 2013 lost some weight by straving myself and waiting for my fills to finally hit my " Sweet Spot " that never happened. I quit straving myself and the weight I lost came back, band is useless, I never felt full. I just found this site out of looking in despair and many years of depression. So fed up of this useless thing inside of me and the problems it has created. If anybody knows anything any input would be appreciate. Thanks -
Hey August Buddies! I wanted to share my results so far in starting my mock trial liquid diet to see how well it goes for me. Basically, to test to make sure I can hit all my macros and protein, I don't put it in my mouth if it does not have some version of protein in it. So far I have felt very satisfied and not felt too hungry. If I do get hungry, then I drink more water with the Liquid Protein and it satisfies me. What my days are consisting of: Breakfast 1 cup of coffee with 1 Tbsp of cream and 1 teaspoon of Skinny mix and 1 scoop of college protein Take all my supplements and vitamins Water with Electrolytes Oikos triple zero yogurt watered down Organic Plum Stage 1 Babyfood (OMG - soooo good!) Lunch 2-ounce puck of strained Bear Creek Cheddar Broccoli soup with 2 TBSP of grass-fed Whey protein ( I also made chicken noodle soup and potato soup pucks so I have a variety) 1 Keto Chow protein shake with 1 cup Almond Milk Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes Snack 1 Premiere Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes Dinner 1 complete SF Jello box with Liquid Protein Water with Liquid Protein and Electrolytes My program may be completely different from yours, but I wanted to share what is so far working for me. I'm down 4 pounds since Sunday and have not been hungry and very satisfied. Average daily calories 850, Avg protein 120 grams, average net carbs 58 (primarily from yogurt and fiber carbs) I feel really good that my protein levels increased to over 50% when I implemented the liquid protein. So easy to consume with your water! Lots of Love to My August Buddies!! ❤️

We wouldn't be human if we didn't worry about the unknown. Once I was in the hospital I calmed myself. I was so fed up with the pre op diet, I almost ran to the theatre

So, my husband just said “ I support you but I don’t think you need this surgery”……what do I do with that? Am I wrong to see this as non support? I looked at him with tears in my eyes and told him “ I NEED this” and he is somehow now the victim of an assault on his psyche bc I won’t let him have an opinion? What? I expressed to him that I appreciated his support for whatever size I am was great and that I really needed his support without the “but” and he was offended. Wtf do I do with this? I am just baffled at how this has exploded……any advice?

I went to Renew Bariatrics in Tijuana Mexico. AMAZINGGGG! Dr Perez is the best! Double board certified in the US and Mexico. $4,600 total. Includes pick up from San Diego airport, surgery, 2 nights hospital stay, 1 night hotel stay (optional, I opted out to get home:) and transportation back to San Diego airport. Absolute AMAZING experience. I can't express that enough. I'm down 22 lbs in 16 days and started with a low BMI, 31. No pain after surgery whatsoever. Swear I was questioning the doc like, did you even do anything lol Best experience ever. The worst part was the 2nd night at the hospital bc I felt so normal I just wanted to go hommmmme lol Feel free to email me. I'll send pics n all. They have a FB group that can be joined where thousands of ppl share their experiences. Here's my email to reach out directly. Totally forgot I even joined this forum until I got a random notification today lol Cjones61985 @yahoo.com -

I also don't tend to eat in the morning, or until about 11. I have iced coffee with a lot of milk and that seem to be enough most days. I wouldn't want to swim on a full stomach. I know that thing about getting a cramp and drowning is BS, but I don't think it would be comfortable. I swim as soon as I get up in the morning normally, except on vacation, but then I'm eating more anyway.

Insight/thoughts for someone considering sleeve surgery
emilygrace replied to Veebear's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
- Do it, you will only regret not doing it sooner - Do your research and be completely comfortable with your surgeon; make sure you ask what they will do and how they will manage complications - Get up and move around as soon as you can postop. It helps move the gas out of your system. Use a heat pack for the shoulder blade pain from trapped gas. - Don't worry about loose skin yet; deal with one step at a time. - Go to a psychologist or therapist. The mental reasons you overeat to the point of obesity are not helped by surgery. You have the aid of no appetite initially to lose weight, but once that restriction eases over time, it's just you again, with all the same issues and problems. See someone. Consider what led you to get where you are/were. I was never a believer in "therapy" and thought it was rather useless and self-indulgent to sit and "whine" to someone about your problems. I misunderstood. It is unbelievably helpful to have a professional with whom you build a good relationship, to call you out on your BS and encourage you to feel your feelings instead of eating to suppress them (if that's what you do - it's what I do). Cannot recommend strongly enough, and think it should be mandatory for before and after WLS. -
I have my iced coffee every morning. Proffee…. Iced coffee With a protein shake instead of milk. Just make sure you are getting your water in bc caffeine dehydrates. I went back at 4 weeks

Vegetarian food at the hospital
FarfelDiego replied to imaginegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was fed ensure protein and water. I guess you could bring a plant based protein shake with you. I was just in the hospital 24 hours. -
I just had my revision from Sleeve to Loop DS/SIPS/SADI two days ago. I was having your exact symptoms BEFORE my surgery from the powder protein shakes. I was using Bariatric Advantage, Vanilla, which is why I logged in today to see if I can return 75% of the bag. Those shakes made me feel horrible, constipated and bloated, WITH diarrhea and all the other symptoms you described. I stopped doing the poweder protein shakes from Bariatric Advantage, and switched to similar count Protein/Sugar/Calories/Vitamins, made by Slimfast. The chocolate flavor was divine after drinking down chalk for 5 days! I bring all this up because this all happened BEFORE the surgery, and it was because of the powder protein shakes. Add Benefiber to every shake, or take Colace twice a day to get you back to normal. Or better yet, switch to the Slimfast Advanced Nutrition High Protein ones. They taste 1000% times better and no horrible symptoms, but you still need the Benefiber or Colace bc of the High Protein. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

I would love to hear your outcome from the vitamin patches Marianne if they work I'm definitely going to try some bc I'm just so hopeless in remembering to take my supplements daily lol

Walking helped me a lot and staying on top of the pain/gas meds. I was fortunate to not have horrible gas pains, but it’s think that’s bc they were so bad with my last C-section, that these seemed less intense. It will get better. You can do this. Keep your head up! You can do it!! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and instead of looking at the big picture, take one day at a time. 💜

Getting ready to have this surgery
LilaNicole20 replied to Laurie Rohrer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been averaging about 15lbs/month since surgery 12 weeks ago. Today for example, I restricted myself to only getting my protein bc I have been enjoying some various foods that I hadn’t been previously (small slice of veggie pizza, few French fries, bite of a sandwich, etc.). Yesterday I did a strong leg workout, too. Today I woke up and the scale was up .4 lbs and just said okay. Get to work. Have had 2 protein shakes and a packet of quest protein chips today. Met my goal. I’m not hungry - just drinking water, getting my vitamins / calcium - will maybe have a small salad or some fresh sweet peppers a little later. Fiber is always nice. This is mostly in response to you saying you skip meals. Just make sure you’re hitting your goals. This is a dreamy procedure when you stick to the plan! -
Hi guys! I’m new here and I just had my surgery on 5/26/22. I’ve been overweight for the majority of my life, and I’ve been eager to start this journey by getting to know others who have done the same. My dad got gastric bypass and was able to keep the weight off, but he got it done a long time ago. So his advice is a little outdated. One thing I’ve noticed is that people keep emphasizing how good I’ll look once I lose weight. And it kinda sucks bc I didn’t do this for that. Sure, it helps. But I did it because I want to be healthier. Rambling aside, the only issues I have right now are maintaining my fluids and protein. And the gas. How was everyone else’s first couple of days? Any advice for a newbie?

Fingersx replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven’t had any issues cooking for my family….. Now saying this i LOVE cooking! I also love baking (making brownies for coworkers this weekend) only thing that does bother me is i can’t really taste it to make sure it’s right. Now when I get head hungry I love watching Asian mukbang! I don’t know why but for me it works! I guess bc it’s head hunger and im watching it …. Maybe? Or maybe I need counseling? Lol -

What Is the best body scale to purchase?
LilaNicole20 replied to Lsoto81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought the Arboleaf on like March 25 or something like that and I just had to buy new (AAA) batteries for it this morning. My follow-up advice would be to find a smart scale that takes the ion/watch batteries bc they seem to last longer. I have had my other digital scale (Weight Watchers brand) for about 5 years and I've yet to replace the battery. More food for thought! -
I feeeelll this! My therapist taught me something very helpful lately with my internal locust of control. Everyone has a hula hoop around them and you can only control what's in your hula hoop. If someone is feeling frustrated or heated because they think they know what's best for you, those emotions and thoughts are purely in their hula hoop, not yours. What's not in our hula hoop, we cannot control so we let it go. I'm 3 months post op, have lost over 80 lbs on this journey and still have more to go. I hear bs from my family all the time about how I'm not doing a b c or d right or I'm just going to go back to my old ways. It use to make me so angry but now I'm starting to realize they're projecting their own emotions and fears onto me but they all exist within their hula hoop, not mine..I can't control what people think or say to me. I can only understand that it's not in my power. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
