crazy question....
bella71 replied to dontgoggilme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During my mushies phase, I was lucky to have enough room for the proteins (which you need to eat first) and veggies to have room for rice and pasta. Plus, simple, refined carbs are not conducive to weight loss. Maybe whole wheat pasta or brown rice instead? -
Hey, that's the day before me! I started a thread for Sept '08 sleevesters in the 2008 section. Come join me. As for weight loss, I am below my original goal and here is how I did it: -religiously track everything I put in my mouth. Then, whenever weight loss slows down or cravings come back, I check it over to see where I can improve -drink a lot of Water - at least 64 oz of Fluid, most of it water, a day, but 80-100 oz, if I can -exercise 4-5x a week for 30 min. at first and then upped it every time my weight loss slowed down. -held myself to under 800 calories, 70-90 g of Protein, under 40 g of carbs, under 30 g of fat for the first 6 months; after that, I gradually upped my protein and eventually my carbs but I was trying to slow down my weight loss at this point I think tracking, high protein, and exercise were really the keys though.

Question for the Men...

Whatever muscle mass you lose, you can regain through working out and lifting. You'll do great. Any loss of strength will only be temporary. Good luck to you! @@Cowgirl Jane, nice deltoids! -
Did you notice a significant strength loss?

I don't have allergies to it but I don't and didn't use that toxic crap not even once post op. Coming up on 2 years post op and I made my weight loss goals, and currently maintaining! You don't need that fake crap! -
I HAVE BEEN VOMITING FREQUENTLY SINCE MY LAST FILL WHICH WAS A LITTLE TOO TIGHT. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, OH WELL, A LITTLE 'BULIMIA' WILL SPEED UP MY VERY SLOW WEIGHT LOSS. I VOMITED OFF AND ON FOR A MONTH UNTIL IT GOT TO THE POINT YESTERDAY THAT EVEN WARM TEA DIDN'T GO DOWN. SO TODAY ON MY BIRTHDAY OF ALL DAYS I HAD A COMPLETE UNFILL, BECAUSE THE NURSE NOTICED MY POUCH WAS TWICE THE SIZE FROM ALL THIS VOMITING AND RESTRICTION. SHE PUT ME ON LIQUIDS FOR 2 WEEKS IN HOPE THAT MY POUCH WILL SHRINK ITSELF BACK. HAVE ANY OF YOU OUT THERE ENCOUNTERED ANYTHING LIKE THIS? I REALLY NEED HELP!!!:frown::thumbup:

My surgeon straight up told me that if you have 100+ pounds to lose he doesn't recommend the band as average weight loss is only about 50 pounds. Since I've been in this process I have seen many on here that had terrible complications with the band since it's a foreign object in your body. Do your research- it might be right for you but it definately wasn't the choice for me.

I am about 4 months out and started having back pain. Nothing like I've experienced before. I was telling my brother who also went through weight loss surgery about 10 years ago. He's always had back problems but they became a lot worse after surgery. He was told by his back doctor that it was caused by the muscle loss in his back due to the surgery. This may be the same reason you all are experiencing this. I've been working out and trying to build my muscles back.

Counting down the days until surgery. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I have been ready to start my weight loss journey for quite some time and am ecstatic that I've only 4 more days to go! Woohoo!

I started my first group support meeting this evening. There was close to 50 people in various stages of the journey present. About 15 of us were preOp. It was a really cool session and it was nice getting all the different perspectives based on their stage of weight loss surgery. I'm actually looking forward to next week! I have my preOp testing this friday and my medical/physical clearance on the 14th. Hoping to get my surgery date soon! XO

Hi Kelly, I see that you go to Dr. Glasgow. I was just banded on August 17th by Arthur. Love them! While I haven't had your problem, I'm kinda freaking out about the weight loss. I lost 25 lbs between the preop diet and the immediate post op. The scale hasn't budged in 2 weeks! I'm doing the same think you are- working out a fair amount. I'm assuming my body is just adjusting.... Your 66 lb weight loss is awesome! At least they diagnosed the band problem right away! It's nice they have all the equipment right there. hopefully you'll have more luck with going slowly. I won't get my first fill for 2 1/2 weeks. Do you go to any of the support groups? Lisa

kimaly replied to HAL380's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have to say #2 it wasn't my first choice of weight loss but after I failed on all other diets and didn't stick to the so called lifestyle change that I tried many times I did my research and made the best decision ever and got my band. With the assistants of the band it has made it possible for me to stick with it. I wish I had done it sooner. -
I had restriction with just the band. Just got my first fill 10 weeks postop. I don't know how much he put in but definitely feeling more restriction. Go back in 10 weeks for another fill. I'm glad I can't eat as much as before. Hit a plateau for weight loss.

Thanks for that Freckles, I've been quoted £175 for an X-Ray, I've made an appointment with my NHS Doctor for 25th to ask his advice, he referred me for fills when my package expired with THG so I'm hopeful he'll help but I don't want to wait months either so we'll see what he says, I've had no restriction for months and struggling to maintain my 3 stone loss since I was banded a year ago , the thought of gaining it all back horrifies me but I'm not going with THG again, I don't trust them.

hey there is my buddy Dee:w00t:! i am feeling much better today (sat). are you getting excited? how did you do on the liquid diet? yes my port and incision pain was because i was not that big when i started i was 231lbs. on the day of surgery i was 209lbs. my dr said that because i had loss so much weight he had to do a lot of tugging and pulling. to give you an idea of how small i was, all of my incisions are high up right under my rib cage, that part of my stomache was kinda flat, you could feel my ribs. then you also have concider my height too (i am short) that is why they say everone's pain experience is different. different body types and sizes. it kinda got on my nerves, but all my nurses kept saying that i was so small, and why am i having the surgery. forget all the medical problems i have right? then i had to explain that i worked hard as hell to lose the 22 lbs prior to surgery. But Dee, i feel a lot better today, each day getts better. -
Am I Considered A Slow Loser?
EmilyIsSleeved posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 3/6 and lost 15 pounds my first two weeks. Since then I have only lost 4 more pounds. I go in for my 2 month follow up on May 3rd. I'm worried that my surgeon will be disappointed at only losing 19 pounds. Just wondering, is this rate normal? Or am I just destined to be a slow loser? I have been following the diet and exercise program so I don't know what else I could do to increase the loss (any tips are welcome). -
I met with my surgeon yesterday to discuss band removal/revision. He recommended a sleeve because there are fewer complications and it is a simpler surgery. He also said that if it is done correctly, the weight loss is close to the bypass. Because I have worked hard the last 3 years to lose 80 lbs and get down to 230, he said I can reasonably expect to get to 175, more if I exercise and work hard. Next I have to go for an EGD test to assess the condition of my stomach and esophagus. I'll be swallowing a tiny camera! Luckily, there will be some sedation. They don't submit paperwork to insurance until after the test. My band can be unfilled at that point. I really like this surgeon. He removed my daughter's gall bladder 2 years ago and I researched him thoroughly. I'm starting to get excited, even though he expects surgery to be 6 weeks away. This week I need to ask my GP and therapist for letters saying I'm a good candidate for surgery and can be expected to follow my post-op diet and be successful. I'll keep you all posted! I didn't start working out until a few months after my surgery. There is a normal "down feeling" or "blues" that comes from being under anesthesia. Honestly, I think I was really going through grief and loss issues regarding my loss of the relationship I once had with food. Me and food still had a thing, but it had changed and it just wasn't the same....not being able to do emotional eating because the "go to" foods I used to eat gave me dumping syndrome or I couldnt digest. I had no motivation either until I went to my first post-op fill appointment and sat in the waiting room talking to other WLS patients. It was motivating to hear about their successes. Oh and I also read success stories on here and watched videos that lap-banders posted on youtube. It helped to see others losing weight and I told myself that since I went through the surgery i was not going to make it be for nothing. I started out just taking 2 to 3 mile walks with my IPod, listening to music that really got me pumped up and then I started working out with a friend so that we could motivate eachother. Have faith that this lifestyle change is going to work if you work it. You will find your motivation somewhere inside of you....if you didn't want to ultimately lose the weight, you wouldnt have had the surgery. So, maybe you just need time or that certain something to click and ignite your motivation.

Concerned about rapid weight lose????
mrsbailey921 replied to ELI.p.m's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow yes go back to your surgeon. 4 ounces of Fluid is NOT enough!!! i too have concerns about very rapid weight loss. i am happy to be losing an even 2-3 pounds per week. i think that is best for me as a breastfeeding mom. i don't think it's your weight loss--i think you're just having some post surgery issues that your surgeon can help you with. definitely try to drink in more than 4 ounces a day--that is nowhere near enough liquid. you need AT the VERY least 64 ounces according to my surgeon.
