What are you eating?
byebyedarkpassenger replied to samskiles's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm about 6 weeks out. Breakfast: 2 oz oatmeal with skim/lactose free milk, half a scrambled egg. Lunch: 2-3 oz tuna fish with light mayo on 3-4 whole wheat crackers. Dinner: zucchini spaghetti and sauce, or broiled fish with vegetables, or homemade brown rice and lentils - no more than 1/2 cup of whatever. My night binges are hard to beat so I have 2 oz of Greek yogurt with Splenda shortly before going to bed. I'm doing ok, losing somewhere around 2-3 lbs a week. -
I was just banded on August 26, 2011. My insurance paid for everything and required the 6 months of pre op therapy. I have never had any type of surgery before so i'm healing very quickly but my appetite is also coming back fast. I'm not due for my first fill till sept. 20th. I'm not eating very much when i eat, i'm just eating more frequently. Is that normal? I've been eating pudding, cream of wheat, yogurt, soup and protein drinks. Today i'm allowed to start having bananas and strawberries. I'm craving something more solid but am afraid to try anything in fear of being miserable or throwing up. I haven't thrown up even once, but people have told me that happens sometimes when you first start out on solids. Is this true? I've lost 20 pounds and am so happy to finally have my band.

I'm going on a road trip (8 hr to Seattle to take an Alaskan cruise) this coming Monday! I've already got packed: almonds, jerky, yogurt covered pretzels (a bit of a treat!), Cheerios, and a cooler with yogurt and water. I almost always have a pkt of almonds in my purse for emergencies.

Typical day on Preop diet???
misszizka replied to robinbare's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am getting banded next thurs too! I am allowed to eat cream of wheat, yogurt, milk, juice and sf carnation inst bfast for breakfast. Lunch is soup, milk, juice, sf pudding. Dinner is the same. I have snacks of either milk or yogurt in between. After dinner I have a protein shake or carnation inst bfast. I have to be on pre op diet for 2 wks. Thats nice you get to start yours later. I have been doing ok on it, been tired and muscles ache. It gets old, but its better than drinking shakes all day. Good luck! Hopefully you will find out what your diet consists of soon. I have lost about 7 lbs since on pre op diet in 1 wk. You lose weight, but can be exhausted. -
My condolences of the passing of your grandmother, she sounds like she was a nice person. If you sad, tired, sick , sore, mad, upset it seems like a good idea to eat to make yourself feel better. We have all been there, done that and know it doesn’t help in the long run or even the short term. I will give you the kick in the pants you need/want put down the fried chicken have some yogurt, soup or cereal till you can get some good lean protein. Hurting yourself won’t help you and i am sure your grandmother wouldn’t want you to use her passing as an excuses to fall off the wagon. But since you did don’t beat yourself up...we are in this for a long run....one small slip up doesn’t matter as long as we learn from it and try not to repeat it I have lost all of my grandparents and parents it doesn’t get any easier but the pain does fade and you can celebrate their lives (with good for you food—possible a small drink) Hang in there it will get better

2nd Day Pre-Op Diet-Harder Than I Thought
BreadLady replied to wishmeluck13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My experience is I cannot do anything with artificial sweetener. So what I did was go to Whole Foods. I found a great whey Protein powder sweetened with Stevia. It has 25g of protein per serving. It's on the expensive side but I couldn't eat any of the other stuff so there really wasn't a choice. Brand: Jay Robb's Whey Protein Flavors: FYI the Protein powder contains no: NO MSG NO Aspartame NO Acesulfame-K NO Sucralose NO Artificial Flavors NO Artificial Sweeteners NO Artificial Colors You can mix it with Water, milk, juice or yogurt. I assume you could also mix it with Kefir if you wanted. -
You don't say when you were banded. I am going to assume very recently. That be the case the first 6 weeks is NOT about losing weight, it is about healing. Yes you need to follow the liquid, mushy guidlines so as not to cause band slipage or any other complications. You have plenty of time to worry about how much you are eating after you get healed up. Cottage cheese, applesauce, yogurt, protein shakes, mashed potato, mashed sweet potato, eggs. These are just a few things you could eat. I drink crystal light to help get my liquid intake in. I can't stress enough that you need to drink a lot. If you were just banded more than likely you do not have anything in your band because it is a time for healing. After you get your first fill then you will need to watch closer what you are eating and the amount. You are starting on an incredible journey. It is worth it. Good luck and if you need any more advice this is the place to get it. There are a lot of wonderful people here who are or have been in the stage you are in. Keep posting and asking questions.

What could your stomach tolerate week 1???
SolracSpree posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. Today is day 8 post op and every time I try to "eat" anything other than Clear liquids my body seems to reject it. I get pain in my stomach and gas. As of right now my list of things I CAN EAT include: chicken broth, sugar free juices, Isopure (and other clear liquid protein) and Water. I have tried the following an ran into problems: milk, potato Soup, tomato soup, applesauce, pudding, milk based protien shakes. Did anyone else have this experience or is it just me. I see people who are eating eggs, yogurt, mashed potatoes day 8 and i'm a little concerned. I dared to eat eggs yesterday. HA! pain like you wouldn't believe, wont be doing that again anytime soon! -

I work in a bank and sometimes we are so busy I either can't drink or forget to drink. Then at lunch time I can't drink w/food. I try to make up for it by drinking in the morning before work. I drink a bottle when I get up, then my Protein shake, then I drink on the ride to work. Then I challenge myself to drink a whole bottle of Water on my ride home (20 minutes). In the evening I drink more and sometimes I add another Protein Shake if I need more protein. If you find a ready made protein shake that you like you can use them at work - it's a great way to get protein and liquid at the same time. Chobani little champions Greek yogurt is good for work too. They're a smaller size so you can eat one fairly quickly. The same with Think Thin Bites (small Protein Bars - about half-size). I carry the bars in my purse. When your able to, try Ostrim beef and Ostrich meat sticks. They're tasty, portable, and have 14gr of protein - another purse staple. I like Cracker Barrel individually wrapped cheese Snacks too. I also carry an insulated lunch bag with a cold pack everywhere I go. I have a good routine down for my Vitamins but I find taking my Calcium more of a problem because I can't take it near my multi or my thyroid med. I keep some in my lunch bag and some in my purse so I can take it whenever I think of it. With time you'll figure out a routine that works for you and a back-up plan for your busier days. Good luck to you! -

I was sleeved April 20. In addition to what you listed: protein soup (ProtiDiet), V8, protein pudding, applesauce, green beans, yogurt, refried beans and cheese. This week I get to add soft fish so I had some grilled salmon tonight at a cookout. -
8 Months out and why am so hungery am i doing this right?
TES replied to lowe1961's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The sweets create a vicious cycle that makes you more hungry bc of insulin release, especially if you are eating them without Protein. I would make sure that you don't keep them in the house and don't buy them when you are out. Try to find substitutes that you like, such as fresh berries with ricotta and SF syrup, or Greek yogurt with an add-in like powdered Peanut Butter and sweetener. SF popsicles, or SF fudgesicles (not the best bc no protein--but better than eating something really bad for you). Drink plenty of Water so that you don't have time for dessert after meals. Think about how great you will feel when you reach goals!! that will give the sweets less importance. Good luck! -
Does anyone have snacks
RNBSN786 replied to msshellg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat string cheese, yogurt (i have that for Breakfast and also for a snack when needed), cottage cheese, nuts, sugar free pudding, tbsp Peanut Butter, tbsp low fat cream cheese, laughing cow cheese...for some reason, cheese goes down easily for me. I have started to eat blueberries and have had watermelon in the past which I love. Apples I struggle with but I peel the skin off and then eat them. I cant seem to eat salads..it hurts a lot. I am 12 weeks out...3 months out. So I am still struggling with food. Oh I also have Protein shakes for my snack too. I also eat 5-6 small portions through out the date. Cant seem to eat denser meals. -
I was not happy a while back because my weight lose stopped only after 2.5 weeks (after surgery). So I stopped weighing myself so much. Had trouble with amounts I was eating (ate to much), but now I think I'm getting the hang of how to do this! At least at this point! I have been on regular food about a week and here is how I see how to work with the band. I have not counted calories but try to eat good food, of course protein first, then veggies, sometimes a carb, even a small desert . 3 meals a day and maybe a bit of yogurt (greek). THATS IT! Weighted in this morning (after about 2 weeks) 2lb loss. and feeling good! One question though; At dinner time I can not feel satisfied, I was thinking about drinking more water/crystal light. Doc told me no liquid .5 hour before and 1 hour after a meal and it's after the meal I think I need to drink more to feel satisfied? What to do? TIA

mine is slightly different. I found walden farms calorie and sugar free strawberry spread and put a little bit on top...super yum! Fake, No Bake Strawberry vanilla Bean Cheesecake ½ Cup Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt (Cabot is best) ¼ cup Strawberry Greek Yogurt ½ Cup Cottage cheese 3 Tbsp Sugar Free Instant pudding Mix – Cheesecake Flavor ¼ Cup of Milk (give or take as needed) 1-2 Tbsp Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup Optional: 1 package splenda to taste 1-2 scoops vanilla or strawberry Protein powder Put the yogurt and cottage cheese in the blender. You will need to add a little milk to allow the mixture to blend. Add the remaining ingredients and milk as needed, continue to blend until smooth. Refrigerate. It will firm up as it chills. Garnish with Fat Free Cool Whip and fresh strawberry as desired before serving. -

I was sleeved on 12-19-11. I've been able to get in my 3 protein drinks, at least 64 oz. of liquids and my supplements from day 3. I'm on my 17th day post-op. I still drink 3 protein drinks a day. I've added some mushies, like oatmeal, bananas, yogurt, baby food, peanut butter, and pureed split pea soup. The problem is, since I added mushies, I'm ALWAYS hungry! No, I don't drink and eat. What can I do to feel satiated? Or is this just my body adjusting to another change (adding mushies)?

5 days post op diarrahea?
linesj replied to Laurba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Diarrhea is the plague of my life. After surgery it was bad, but I attributed it to the whopping dose of antibiotics they gave me. That's a major problem for some people. Yogurt is a big help. I ate some every day and was better every day. There is also some sort of dried form you can sprinkle in liquid. For some reason yogurt was on my list of "full liquids" so I just nibbled on a little at every "meal" -
I'm almost 3 weeks out and I CAN'T STAND sweets now. Sweet puddings, sweet protein drinks, sweet yogurt, sweet popcicles YUCK! lol I feel like barfing at the very thought of anything sweet nowadays.

Post Op Day 2 Need Ideas On What I Can Eat
Maddysgram replied to goingfoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My paperwork on a full liquid diet consist of: SF yogurt, strained cottage cheese, cream of wheat, grits, malt o meal (whatever the hell that is) vegetable & fruit juice diluted 50/50 with water, liquid protein supplements. At this point begin up to 1 protein supplements per day. -
I didnt like any of the protein shakes I tried. Then I saw someone mix a crystal lite pack with their no fat greek yogurt and liked it so I mixed it with some 1% milk in a blender and total of 28 grams of protein and it wasnt bad, a little bit of a dry taste but so much better than the protein shakes I've tried. Used an orange pack and tasted like an orange cream cicle, also used a peach one and if you like peachy tasting things that was good too.

1st Week Post Op Diet Dilemma
bluegudren replied to N2DONNAT123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made several home made soups post op, and used my magic bullet to purée. It worked out fine. I even took meaty tomato sauce and puréed it. It was delish. I was so sick of sweet protein shakes! You can also drink Kefer probiotic yogurt drinks. Those are very filling. Making home made soup is the way to go. It gives you something to do as well as some good standing and moving time. -
I Had Surgery Jan 26 In Mexico. Tomorrow I Can Start Full Liquids. Advice?
Shannalee replied to Miss Meow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on the 23 and still on clear liquids... After a week the dietian suggested a yogurt drink and protein shake a day. However, she said at this point no blenders due to excess air and comfort after surgery. If you are feeling like your ready to advance your diet that's probably a good sign everything is working as it should. Funny how the recommendations can be so different eh? -
Ok, Am I Beating Myself?!
SkinnyDown replied to ANewMe83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
By whole cup do you mean a full cup, or a 5oz yogurt container, or 4 oz yogurt? How did you feel? Are you supposed to be eating that already? I did full liquids for a couple weeks. I couldn't even drink an 8oz Protein shake in one sitting the first few weeks after surgery. I'm unsure how you kept all that down. I'm almost 11 weeks out from surgery and I still can't eat a whole cup of anything. Not sure if you over did it, what do you think? I think only you can answer that question. My best advise is to talk to your NUT as soon as possible, and make sure you are eating the right things, and the right amounts. If you are having issues with head hunger....my best advice I tell everyone, get to a therapist, asap. That could be the very thing that helps you if you feel you are eating too much this soon after surgery. I wish you luck with everything. -
My surgery was Aug 27th. I was 350 day of surgery and now I'm at a standstill at 265. Before I could only eat 6oz. The size of a yogurt cup. Recently I increased going to the gym and am now Gibson.g myself so hungry. Today I had soup and then lunch was 3 inches of a turkey hoagie. All low fat. But not even an hour later my stomach was growling so bad and I was hungry again so I ate the other 3" of the hoagie. I'm not supposed to track calories but I am supposed to track portions. Am I eating to much??? Is there anyone else hungry like me? And how about going to the gym, is anyone really hungry afterwards?
